My first visit to this establishment in June was far from pleasant. I stopped in for a coffee after a walk to the top of the waterfall, only to be given a lecture by the woman serving about the importance of "protecting cash" when I tried to pay with my card. To make matters worse, the coffee was terrible. Despite that experience, I returned three months later with two elderly relatives to see the beautiful falls. Reluctantly, I decided to give the café another try. My heart sank when I saw the same woman behind the counter. This time, I came prepared with cash — a good thing, as the card machine was "mysteriously" broken. When I attempted to order lunch for four, I was curtly told, "I’ve got too many food orders ahead of you. I’m not serving food." There were only five people waiting, and no apology was offered. We settled for cake and tea, avoiding the coffee based on my previous experience. The carrot cake was overpriced and meager, and the tea tasted like dishwater. After paying £5 for parking and 50p to use the toilet, I've decided that next time, we'll park on the road and bring a picnic like everyone else.

Avoid! OR go prepared. We arrived obviously for the waterfall, and wasn't expecting £5 for the car park but hey. Then we proceeded to the WC, that cost 50 pence. I went in the café to ask about a cash machine/cash back option to be able to use the toilets. I was met by unfriendly staff telling me they had no cash machines and no cash back as they were only taking cash only! I went back to my car and found some change, when I put it into the machine for the WC it wouldn't open and those were my last coins! Luckily another lady helped me out...but this place is unbelievable. If you go to visit, TAKE CASH AND LOADS OF IT!

I have not been to Tan-y-Pistyll for years - I think it was 50p to park then and the toilet was free. I still recall however that the cafe was a bit iffy. The £5 to park now seems a bit steep and the extra charge for the toilet is a bit of a cheek. I never tried to use them but did notice the iron bars and turnstile which seemed a bit severe. As for the cafe, I refused to pay £8 for a sandwich as it seemed way overpriced. The coffee tasted like dishwater and I left it. All things considered, a very poor show.

We fancied cake and coffee and weren't disappointed, best scone I've ever had, warm and delicious. The lady who served me was friendly, the lady who bought out our drinks was also lovely. No complaints at all! The do have the ability to pay by card but prefer cash. You do pay for parking - I have no issue with this nor paying to use the loos, £5.50 to see a beautiful site and have a pee - bargain.

The main attraction is obviously the falls but it's a pity this tea room/café has decided to treat visitors with such contempt - it's £5 parking, cash only to purchase drinks/food (so that's not a tax dodge then...) and there are no customer toilets. There are nearby toilets that cost 50p and they do not provide RADAR key access for disabled users. It's not exactly welcoming as a result. Take a packed lunch and your own drinks, park further down for free and walk up, and avoid the scam that this place is running.

The cafe itself is lovely & full of character, food is pricey for what it is but nothing we didn’t expect to pay at a popular attraction. They have a lot of information/old artwork displayed on the walls about the folklore of the falls which we loved reading. Dogs aren’t welcome inside so we had to take it in turns to warm up after our hike up the falls. We visited on Boxing Day, so the cafe was busy but not overrun. The young girl who served us was really friendly & polite. We ordered two mocha coffees & cakes - other reviews have complained about the taste of the coffee but we thought the mocha was fine. There are no toilets for paying cafe customers- you have to use the old 40p turnstile toilet block outside which we wouldn’t mind paying for at all if it was well maintained - but the toilets are filthy/freezing with no running water or soap to wash your hands, only one ‘working’ toilet that wouldn’t flush & the turnstile is very temperamental as other reviews have stated, it wouldn’t open so we put more money in & it still jammed - we then had to convince the man that we’d paid before he would let us through the gate (he kept saying we’d only put 10p in when we’d paid well over £1 at that point). I can imagine they are even more chaotic/dirtier on busy days. We found dirty nappies and used toilet paper on our hike - as disgusting as this is I can sympathise as I wouldn’t want to bring my babies anywhere near those filthy facilities either, but leaving them behind for other hikers to find just isn’t acceptable. Please remember to take all of your rubbish with you when visiting the falls. We collected multiple plastic bottles that had been left too. The waterfalls themselves are so beautiful but a whole new toilet block needs to be put in to prevent people from spoiling the land. Also it’s worth noting that you need to take the path right of the falls to access the top, not the left, as this isn’t clearly signposted. Once on the path you have the option of a steep climb (which we took) or a less steep slower path. The climb is hard but once you reach the top you’ll see it’s 100% worth it... breathtaking views & more waterfall drops leading to the main waterfall. Very steep & not fenced off so keep children/dogs close.

I visited on 30.08.22 around midday. With my 3 year old son who has additional needs, sis in law & her 2 children. I asked the girl working in the cafe if she wouldn't mind heating up my son's lunch as he's on blended foods. Which she happily did. I had popped to the loo (bring change as it's 40p per person)! By the time I got back to the table outside: the girl had brought my son's lunch out to my sis in law. She advised my sis in law that her boss would be very angry if he'd seen us eat sandwiches. We quickly popped whatever we had left in our bags etc, no rubbish was left. My sis in law & kids went to explore, I'd visited a couple of times in the past, plus I was feeding my son in the pram as he's not currently walking. We'd agreed to meet back by the cafe as I was looking forward to ordering chips, tea & cake. I thought I'd order once my son had eaten & my sis in law wanted a cake & kids wanted ice creams. However the very rude owner came & said this is my home & this is my cafe you are not allowed to eat here it's for our customers only or something along them lines. I explained that I will be purchasing, my son has additional needs, cannot feed himself but once finished I'll be ordering. He said I suggest you do the right thing?! He walked off, returned after a few minutes saying my staff member said there were other children & another woman with you & you were all eating with your bags out etc etc. I said once they were told not too they packed up. He then replied I have seen it all on cctv!? I was literally there with 2 bags only my son's lunch pot & his pudding were on the table. I repeated, after feeding him I'm going to order, he told me no & asked me to leave!?! I was literally welling up but didn't want to get upset infront of my son. I was pushing the pram in one hand, his lunch in the other. The rude/arrogant man walked over to the unfriendly woman who had told us where to park & how much we needed to pay on arrival; that it is £5 to park until 5pm. The man stated to her I bet they haven't even paid for parking?! I said I'm parked there & I've paid for parking! I am still fuming & gobsmacked that people act in this manner! I will not be returning. 1 star given to upload this review. Otherwise its 0 from me.

Such a shame. Is a beautiful location. Visited cafe as a respectable family. Was going to order five meals, which given current climate and the last few years, you would have thought a business would have required business. Cafe was not busy and plenty if tables. Greeted by a rude lady who huffed at us as we walked by and then when we went to order, and looking at drinks, young girl questioned us what we were doing as if we were up to no good. We had our bank cards out to pay for food we were about to order. My sister was so upset she ran off crying. We approached manager for apology and he was so rude we all walked out. Never go to this place, horrendous, upsetting experience and completely unnecessary.

Microwaved, stodgy panini, fried potatoes were dried out and probably re-heated from previous days, undrinkable Cappuccino.(this is a first for me!) I have to say, this was the most disgusting and high-priced snack I have ever had!. The cafe has no toilets and despite paying £5 to park you still have to pay £0.40 to use the toilets - If you pay to park you should at least be able to use the toilet free of charge! Only access is via a single track road with passing places which can be a nightmare. The Waterfall was very impressive from the bottom but unless they put a little bridge to cross over the river at the top yo can't really see anything extra of the waterfall (other than great scenery in the distance)

We visited Pistyll Rhaeadr today and wish we hadn't bothered with this establishment. As soon as we arrived we did not receive a friendly welcome, more of a demand for parking money (£5) accompanied by rude attendants escorting us to park 'properly'. Not even a hello, welcome or smile. There was no effort made to make us feel welcome or promote the brilliant walking routes around the area. Toilets are through the zoo turnstiles and are 40p per person to enter! What was the parking money for and are rest rooms no longer included when buying food or drink?!?! When we entered the old grotty tearoom (looked and smelt like a damp hole that hadn't been touched or looked after in years) we were swiftly asked what we wanted and robbed in Broad daylight with the extortionate prices!!! £2. 40 for a tea, sandwiches / baked potato £7.40 and extra cheese was £1.60 which wasn't made clear when ordering. We paid £21 for a quick bite for 2 (2 teas were ordered and we were only provided with one teapot between us, which was luke warm). The numbering system did not work and caused confusion throughout the tearoom with the waiter taking food around calling out incorrect order numbers on numerous occasions... You couldn't make it up. A waiter was even heard swearing in front of a toddler when he dropped a piece of china. We were not asked if our food was ok and it did not reflect the price whatsoever, below average. The table was sticky and when watching waiters clean tables no disinfectant or sprays were used - to think we are still in a pandemic this is shocking. It was clear that there was zero investment back into the site considering the amount of money these people are pocketing - perfect example of how not to run a business. No value for money, do not fund these money grabbing opportunists. Support local businesses further down the road/village. The waterfall on the other hand was beautiful.

This has to be one of Wales' leading attractions and we braved the 'half term' inclement weather to our reward, to see the Pistyll Rhaeadr like never before. Quite spectacular. Clearly if you're anticipating a welcome however: Alex Polizzi - here's your next challenge! Take plenty of cash; I get the parking fee, I even get the turnstile toilet fee (presumably this is private land), everything has a maintenance cost. This could be so much better however: The Don't cheat! sign at the turnstile toilets is condescending and shows distrust of guests, never mind 'CCTV monitoring these toilets'...really? At 3pm - an hour before closing - we visited the tea room to be greeted with, "oh, well we're closing in 15 minutes"; we ordered our hot drinks, cake etc. with hopeful anticipation - card machine not working - so cash, and sat down. The doors were then locked, leaving us with a feeling of now being underfoot. I don't recall ever sipping a more mediocre latte, clearly from a convenience machine, us almost shivering in the dank atmosphere. Even I could have made a better instant coffee. We'll bring a flask and our own goodies next time, thanks. More customers arrive, shaking the doors trying to enter (no 'sorry we're closed' sign, nothing), in the end I got up, walked over and explained through the glass that "I think they're closing - really sorry!" Their disappointment was just miserable. Had to find a member of staff to let us out. What utter presumption. Time for this outfit to get out more, experience decent hospitality and aim for a 5-star window sticker! There is hope though, and I'd really like to come back one day and give this five stars for myself.

Tried the coffee and cake with a group before walking in the hills. The carrot cake was special. The coffee was undrinkable and was immediately returned. £2.40 for what tasted like really cheap and nasty instant coffee. I was told it “came from a machine”. No refund or apology was offered. You have to really dislike people and make a special effort to offer a drink this bad. That’s the trouble when you are a monopoly supplier in a remote beauty spot like Pistyll Rhaeadr, there’s no competition. But you do have a choice - don’t bother, and bring a flask!

Nice food and views however the woman who served us was very rude, didn’t take my order correctly and then proceeded to argue with me telling me I had ordered it (I never have soya milk so definitely wouldn’t have). The kiosk system is silly because you can’t order sides if you want any, and when ordering at the bar instead you are made to feel like an annoyance. Can’t say I’ll be in a rush to return.

Very disappointed with the breakfast, the beans were awful, tasted more like beans in a tomato pasta sauce. The bacon was smoked which it didn’t state on the menu, the poached egg was hard, also it was all piled on top of each other on a small plate. The cafe only 1/3 full when we visited but our table was full of crumbs, no spoons given with the coffees, no sugar on the table, no condiments or sauce offered with the breakfast. All in all it was distinctly lacking in all areas.
