Fantastic service from Sydney and amazing food, however we noticed when we got home that you hadn't applied the 2-for-1 deal on cocktails which cost the table an extra £40 :( learned our lesson to check the bill more thoroughly in future!

Worst meal of my life. Rude staff (except our server who was lovely) and the restaurant design is extremely overwhelming and chaotic. The food tasted of nothing, despite getting a curry, though the salad was nice.

The design of place is amazing , I loved the atmosphere and the staff are so welcoming and nice great service the place was filled with people but still it was so organized and chill, however I feel the food needs a little upgrade regarding the test , it didn’t feel like eating Indian at all and I’m sure it cold be much better. Update The prices went up and the portions is less.

I’ve been a fan of Tamatanga Indies for years, and I’m happy to say that the experience has remained consistently amazing. As a student, it was one of my favorite spots, and now, over a decade later, the food is just as fantastic as I remember. The menu offers a great variety, with an impressive selection of vegetarian options that stand out for their flavor and creativity. This isn’t your typical English-Indian fare; the dishes here taste far more authentic, with bold, fresh flavors that make it one of the best Indian dining experiences around. The service has always been excellent—friendly, efficient, and welcoming. I have to recommend the Cheese Naan, which pairs perfectly with any of their curries. It’s a personal favorite and never disappoints! If you’re looking for delicious, authentic Indian food that consistently delivers, Tamatanga Indies is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Omg the cocktails here are absolutely delicious 🤤 the bar staff were very very polite was given free popadoms and chutneys with are drinks only called in on way back to train station after a we’d had lunch at a different restaurant but the food here smelt amazing will definitely be going back to sample their food beautifully decorated

Fantastic experience for our party of six celebrating a graduation. We received attentive and very pleasant service which, on a very busy pre christmas night, was very much appreciated. Food was fresh, hot and delightful. We will visit again for sure and highly recommend. Thank you Tamatanga for a memorable evening.

Food and service and atmosphere great. Service great. I recommend the thali with 2 extra curries. Also the Delhi chicken. And the railway lamb. Not as hot as they suggest on their menus - instead just right! So why the four stars. Because the cocktail drinks are expensive and yet you only get a measly amount compared to proper cocktail Places. Also the bang bang chicken is rubbish. Don’t order. It’s bland and boring. If u get a seat at the back of the venue you will be super cold because of the airconditioning which they can turn off. But they say at first they can’t. And please get rid of the service charge. We are not American. And if we want to pay a service charge let me decide. However the service lady was good in emphasising we didn’t have to pay it. Wish I had asked who the service charge goes to. If the serving staff then fine. But if the owner - then not on!!! You are meant to providing a frigging service if you want my custom. I shouldn’t have to pay you for being nice or efficient. That’s your duty.

Absolutely fantastic all round. Went with friends last Friday and we all thought it was brilliant. All the staff were great, very friendly and professional. The food was outstanding. Our new favourite place in Leeds. Well done to all the staff, chefs and management.

Lovely restaurant and fantastic food! The booth seats are a tight squeeze if you’re plus size so I’d ask for non booth so you can relax and enjoy the food and atmosphere.

One of the best Indian restaurants in Leeds, I don’t say this lightly as I’ve tried a fair few in the city. Tamatanga deserves the recognition for such amazing food and service - it consistently delivers. Today was our 4th time visiting and once again spot on. I recommend the Thai plates if you’re feeling hungry and you absolutely must try the cheese naans they are out of this world. Alongside the yummy food they also have a fantastic offers on cocktails 241 everyday til 7pm - my personal favourite has to be the ameretto colada! I’m sure we will be back again and again!

Went tonight with 13 others for a birthday meal and the service was shocking. Eyes rolling, seemed annoyed when they could match who ordered what. Had to ask for everything including napkins, salt and dips Really not what you expect when out for a special occasion

I went here to celebrate my graduation and had the best Indian food I have ever tasted! The quality of the food was exceptional and the service was amazing too (thank you Rebecca!). I would highly recommend the chops, biryani and curry bowls. I definitely will be going again!

Got the Tama Feast and hands down the best lamb chops I’ve had and I’ve tried a lot, so thick and tender. The salmon and chicken were cooked to perfection, juicy and full of flavour, king prawn was also great. We got garlic naan which were the perfect size. I think the dhaal needed a little more salt, we also got some fresh lemon to squeeze on top. The tama fries are a MUST, the herbs and chillis seemed to be fried a little and were crispy which was amazing. Mocktails were delicious and such a good size for price. Friendly staff and lovely decor and atmosphere. Some fresh wipes would be handy at the end when eating this type of food but otherwise 5*

Highly reccomend this gaff. Not particularly cheap or expensive but for the quality of the food, great value. I don't think you'll get better, no matter what you pay. They do some mains as sides so we, five of us, had a good selection of those, starters and sides. Cocktails were all amazing - I say that as a real ale drinker who eschews such decadence. Mainly served by Jess who was fab, as were all staff though in fairness. Definitely going again. And again.

This was my third trip to Tamatanga having visited the Birmingham and Nottingham restaurants previously and really enjoyed my experience. As a Leeds local, I was understandably happy that a branch had opened in my home town. I was however pretty disappointed by my experience at the Leeds restaurant. The food was good but the server didn’t explain to us that the food came when it was ready (I’d not ordered starters on either of my two visits so wasn’t aware). This made for a rather awkward interaction as some of the group were eating while others had no food which felt rude. If the server had explained this we’d have likely ordered some small plates to share (and spent more money while doing so!). The food was good and I enjoyed my curry and the Boti chicken was very tasty. The service was very poor though. When we expressed surprise that the main courses were coming at the same time as the starters the server barked at us in a very abrupt manner. I did feel for the staff as they seemed run off their feet but the service was below par. Finally, I’ve scored lower for atmosphere was the restaurant was extremely warm, uncomfortably so. I’d raved about Tamatanga to the group so I was left a little let down as it didn’t live up to my expectations based on my two previous visits.

Es la segunda vez que pasa. ¡Si están agregando cargos de servicio 'opcionales', deberían señalarlo y dejarte ver la factura antes de apuntarte con la máquina de tarjetas!

Great experience, food was good and service was great.

Been three times now, first two visits we were pleasantly surprised, the Thali was plentiful and delicious in flavour but this time we came away disappointed, nothing had much taste, the naan was bland and doughy, I’m not sure we’d visit again

We booked as a big group for my birthday meal and the service was fabulous! The restaurant accommodated us so well, they were able to keep my birthday cake in the fridge before bringing it out and the food came out pretty quickly! Everyone enjoyed their meals as there’s so much variety there’s something for everyone! The staff were on hand to help us take any group photos as well 🤩👍 Thanks so much Tamatanga!!!

Good food spot with a wide selection of Indian street food. Ideal for a night out dinner or a casual catch up with friends. My only criticism is the added service charge. I much prefer to tip myself, which I did. The stand out was the chicken and would not recommend the fish as it's rather bland. Will be back to try more of the great choices.

Great food and service, polite friendly staff. Just one tip for the restaurant, please make the naan breads a little bigger, we had to keep ordering portion of the nan because they were kiddy size.

The food and cocktails are great in here. The atmosphere fun and friendly but the best part is the banter from one of the waitresses called Sarah.

Oh dear Oh dear Oh dear … rubbish just rubbish I had the thali in the picture that’s what is not eaten … my partner had the Delhi lamb both lamb dishes were tough the thali one particularly so in fact the thali was so bad I made an issue of it and was ignored so the first and last visit to this venue … we had popadums to start and they were very good in fact the only things that were along with the beer.

Lovely meal, lovely venue, food so tasty and fresh. Special shout out to Ellie who was an absolutely brilliant waitress and put a smile on our face with her lovely personality.

Below is a complaint that I raised directly with Tamatanga on 29th August. I have chased a response on 4 occasions including twitter and got no where therefore below is my complaint and hopefully someone will respond this time around. I’m sorry to have to give feedback however today’s visit was very disappointing. The food was as always excellent thank you. While eating we asked for some water this took a good 10-15 minutes to arrive when it arrived we had almost finished our food so was a little too late. We paid the bill and shared my Tama code to get my points however this has not added to my account. Finally after paying I checked the receipt at which point I noticed that we had not been given the lunch time deal. We questioned this and was asked oh has it not put on the discount? They gave the difference back in cash rather than back on the card. The service just wasn’t what we have come to expect which is incredibly disappointing. I’m sure that this is more of a one off rather than the new norm.

Food is decent but doesn't taste very authentic. The time I visited it was quite busy so service was also quite slow. Somewhat overpriced for what you get

Excellent theme. Tables are a little squashed but atmosphere is good. Menu is good. The thali’s are a good choice you get a varied selection and the food is really nice. Some of the flavours are not as big as some curry houses with curry’s on the bone etc. but they’re good flavours and the thali you could have one between two even though they’re little dishes there’s plenty. Service is great.

Well as always, I try to get and write a positive review of places that I feel I would love to return to. Unfortunately, I rang the restuarant to see if they could accomodate my colleagues dietry needs. Unfortunately the resoonse was rather lacking...in terms of their meat seletion, ALL is Hallal. So no catering to anyone who does eat meat, but wants it to be Non Hallal. When asked why this was the case, I was informed ' we have taken the decision to cook only withHallal Meat' - no indication as to why. Often the response is - well we do have veg option.That is not the answer!! Once again a resturant is catering for the Muslim community but NOTHING for the Non Muslim community, who do eat Meat but not necessarily Hallal. For some of the Christian English community, this may not maytter on the grounds of faith, but will matter on moral grounds around how meat is slaughtered. Sorry but if you feel that you want to be inclusive and cater for all, then alternatives need to be thought through. I went to the Kashmir / Akbars etc and I do not have any provlem with them serving Hallal - this is part of the cultural ambiance and faith basis.But a restutant owned and operated by a Siukh, should know better. Foof might be good - but for me it's a point of principle and I woul;d give it a mere 2/10.

An Indian restaurant, the food is very delicious, and the menu has a wide variety of Indian food. The place is spacious and beautiful, but please pay attention when paying. Check your orders and the account, because we refused to pay twice, and they convince us to amend and correct the account. The third time, the bill is correct, and they apologize. My comment: Be careful when paying.

Sarah our waitress was mint. Guided us through the menu. Was a pleasure to meet, made our night with her attention to detail to making our birthday visit special.

Excellent family lunch on a weekday recently. Food tasted very well Service was similar. Location ideal for commuters, pedestrians and so on.. Cost was was within £ 40 for 3.- no alcohol. Rather enjoyed mango lassi

The best Indian restaurant in Leeds

Brilliant Indian restaurant, really nice food and atmosphere. The decor is particularly well done, I've been three times now and would highly recommend

Tamatanga is an excellent venue for enjoying Indian cuisine with mild flavors. The Tamatanga thali is a standout on the menu, offering a variety of vegetarian sides and two curry bowls at a reasonable price. The Keralan lamb curry and cheese naan are not to be missed. The atmosphere is delightful, though the service could be quicker.

I loved this restaurant; the decoration and atmosphere were amazing, contributing to a fantastic dining experience. The service was excellent, with friendly staff who ensured everything arrived quickly. The butter chicken was exceptional, taking it to the next level, and the naan with cheese was incredibly tasty. The biryani was good, but I didn't particularly enjoy the chicken, as it was mostly made with thighs instead of breast meat.

Honestly the best curry I have had in years. And it just goes to show you don't need surfboard size nan's and 600 different curry's. Just great quality food Highlight for us was the pickle tray the apple and mint was amazing

Came here for a midweek date night. The staff were very friendly and the decor and atmosphere was lovely. Would highly recommend the paneer wrap and look forward to going again soon.

Went there with a friend and loved everything so much! We ordered thalis and the taste hit the spot so good. It's completely worth the money you spend. Also the cocktails are 10/10. The staff were extremely hospitable especially the lady who tells you about the menu and the girl in cornrows and tattoos. Definitely visiting again!

The service was a little slow but to be fair it was a busy day. But the food was well worth the wait and the staff were sweet and amazing. Cocktails weren't the best but... can you complain about a 2 for 1 deal...? Get your bargain and keep it moving.

I would describe this place more of a franchise, fast food vibe than a genuine Indian restaurant. Our main meals, Fish Curry & Garlic Chilli Chicken, were very tasty, although small portions. Nan and Pilau rice were ok. Poppadoms and pickles were spoilt by the pickle being tasteless mush. I did mention to the waitress that we enjoyed the main but did not enjoy the pickles, but got no response.

Amazing restaurant! Absolutely stunning! Definitely visit this restaurant when in Leeds. Although it was Saturday at noon, they managed to find us a table for 4 people, with no wait time. The dishes came super quickly and were honestly, the best Indian food I’ve ever had in my life. I can’t stop thinking about it. Definitely is a must when in Leeds! The staff is super friendly, they give recommendations and are just super nice to be around. Beautiful!

I was apprehensive because of all the hype and I expected it to be more chain food and less authentic. I am really surprised. The venue is beautiful and trendy, the lighting is lovely inside, the staff are friendly and helpful. The food was really good. It wasn’t dummed down or bland. It was full of flavour, fresh ingredients and super tasty. But be warned portion sizes are massive we’ll be rolling home! We go Bradford for Indian which is very authentic. This place isn’t as authentic but was still super nice in its own way and the freshness of the food adds a lot of depth. It’s a modern take on Indian food but is still super tasty and creative. We’ll come again.

a nice restaurant with authentic atmosphere and helpful staff from the reception to the floor and serving food. the food was very delicious, service was very fast as well. You will be feel looked after as a special guest and staff recognize easily us as a returnee and welcomed us. The Chat is a must have and the curries are all very special. the portion provided is enough and you will have to take the remainder of the meal to enjoy at home later on (if you opt to!) Edited 26/07/24 We received a voucher as an apology due to our last experience and have just left having had a lovely 3 course meal. The staff were fantastic, food was served really quickly too. Glad we were able to on this occasion experience what others have previously reviewed! ---------- We visited this evening 27/01/24 and were told it would be approximately an hour's wait. We were fine with this, we could see how busy it was and were willing to wait. Almost an hour after waiting we went to check on how much longer the wait would be and were told 5-7 minutes. 20 minutes later we still hadn't been seated, the hostess completely ignored us as we left just after we heard her swearing and speaking rudely about patrons in the restaurant. The whole time zero acknowledgement or apology was received even though we remained in the restaurant directly in front of the hostess the entire time.

We had good time in tamatanga! Very nice staff and unique interior inside the restaurant. Compared to the other curry restaurants in Leeds, the curry itself was less spicy. I really enjoyed the mongo lassi - highly recommended.

Great place, loved the cocktails. Only issue upon bringing drinks to the table the waiter wanted me to pay upfront. I looked around and nobody else was asked to. I’m an African lady. It’s a pity actually.

While the restaurant is beautiful the management an the food is quiet the opposite, found a hair in my thali which literally made me gag an when i informed the manager I wasn’t even given an apology rather she told me that they don’t have ppl women with hair working in the kitchen , I have blond hair , the hair I found was black so I would love to know what she was implying, as a food blogger I deal with restaurant daily an this was beyond arrogant unfortunate but true -1 rating from me

We came for a work celebration in a large group and they were so accommodating. Halal, gluten free and vegan options were catered for-even a nut allergy! Drinks were great- 2 for 1 cocktails were a hit! Decor was gorgeous and passed the Instagram hun test! I’d the tamatanga thali which was delicious and very filling. Would def return!

Stayed in Leeds for pride weekend. First night they got my friend and I in and we had the lamb salad bowl and tama chips. Awesome food and good service. Small altercation/ misunderstanding later with different server but manager really apologetic. Returned following night and the welcome was friendly , welcoming and the server from previous night made a point of coming over and apologising for the misunderstanding previous night. So professional. Food awesome again and will continue to use this place when in Leeds. In the hospitality trade myself and great service is rarely found but this place has both that and great food at affordable cost in abundance.

Amazing. As a gym freak I definitely appreciated the tandoori chick-chicken. TWO breasts from the tandoor. I was worried it would be too dry. But it wasn't. It was succulent and flavorful. And the addition of taka Dahl made it even more curry like.

I visited Tamatanga with my partner for dinner last week. We both got the Tamatanga Thalis for £22.45 each. This got us a salad, poppadums and chutney, two veg dishes, daal of the day, raita, rice, one naan and two curries of our choice. The portions were quite big, the food was tasty... It was overall a very good dinner out.

Food was lovely and Suki was really patient with us and helpful we loved her cocktail recommendation too we'll come back soon!!

This restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere and ambiance that really sets the mood. The staff are friendly and polite, adding to the pleasant experience. The food is delicious and making every bite enjoyable. However, it's worth noting that the prices are a bit on the expensive side. Overall, it's a great place to dine.
