Tamatanga in Leicester

Food was fantastic but the service wasn’t great! I booked way in advance for a birthday meal and once we got there we were 20 minutes late being sat which was okay however we were cramped onto a table shoulder to shoulder with each other. The waitress who took our food order was amazing really patient and friendly. The food came super fast but once we had finished eating we were rushed to leave by another waitress who shouted at us whilst we were all talking that we need to pay because they have people waiting on our table. We didn’t get the full two hours as we were sat late and we were all still drinking. I would recommend going if you are going in a small group but not great for larger groups unfortunately.

Very delicious Indian food and excellent service

Food good but expensive. I wish they’d bring the food out in a sensible order - one main course, then two starters, then two other main courses. On a previous trip the poppadoms were served after the mains! For the price, I’d expect a meal order for the customer not for the chefs convenience. Oh, and the decision to now be card only, and having to wait for a card machine to become available because the hey don’t have enough. Good food, annoying delivery.

Probably one of the best Indian food I have tasted in UK, I had the lamb biryani which was so nicely done, the lamb was so tender and the rice was so flavourful, my friends had Thali and Paneer Makhani, really great food, I would definitely recommend and visit again.

Welcoming, friendly place. Food was served sooner than I expected, which was great. Food was full of flavour and well presented. I really enjoyed it. I would defo recommend a visit.

We ate here today and spent £190 for 4 adults and 2 kids I can honestly state it was one of the worst indian meals we have ever eaten, I told the manager it was like a dodgy Indian McDonald's

Recommend to me and it did not disappoint. We arrived early for our booked table but could not be seated. Instead we took advantage of Happy Hour cocktails in the bar area. Japanese yuzu whisky was lovely as was the non alcoholic peach punch. Once seated we ordered a selection from menu and shared it all came swiftly. Stand out dishes were the Railway lamb curry, Tama grill of lamb, chicken and salmon, onion bhaji and the best cheese naan we have all ever eaten. Lovely busy at atmosphere, lots of families eating can’t wait to go again!

I always go here twice a month just to eat Rajma masala if that’s on the thali 🤣

Have been to Tamatanga many times since it first opened and this is the first time it has been disappointing. The food is still excellent, the prawn nilgri does not disappoint. The cocktails were overly sweet and I could not determine if there was any alcohol in them. We tried the dessert, according to the menu, a mango & coconut brulee cheesecake, which this wasn't. In fact just a vanilla cheesecake with mango sauce slathered all over it. I would say that if you do not have the menu item, tell your customers, they can then choose something else.

Good options for food, service was a little slow.

I recently visited this restaurant and was left extremely disappointed by the service. It was incredibly slow, with what seemed like two bar staff, three servers, and a manager on duty—none of whom were attentive. Instead of focusing on the customers, they spent more time chatting amongst themselves and cleaning empty tables. The only one who seemed to make an effort was a trainee. While I have to commend the food, which was truly amazing, the service was a major letdown. We found ourselves waiting nearly 20 minutes for our mains to be cleared. To make matters worse, I noticed that tables around us were experiencing the same delays. Frustrated, we decided to ask for the bill and leave rather than wait any longer for drinks or desserts. As a restaurant manager myself, I can only say that this place is poorly run, clearly suffering from a lack of training and oversight. I hope they address these issues, as it’s a shame to see such good food wasted on such poor service. I won’t be returning anytime soon.

When hospitality is dying and places like TGI Fridays closing you would think business would be trying to be the best on the high street, coming here for a quick bite and having a below average time is not what keeps business going, we came we ordered food and the ordering was very basic, once we ordered we never seen that waitresses again, instead the only person to bother us was the waitress in training; she did a check back, got us the bill, while the other 3 waitresses and manager stood around talking, the table next to us had food when we sat down and we managed to eat and pay and they still hadn’t been cleared, the waitresses where busy cleaning empty sections than deal and give paying guests a good time,

Loved the decor and the atmosphere. The food was nice, and the service was good. One option for parking is at Highcross John Lewis car park.

First time eating at this venue, had such good reports of good food and service. I am sorry to say our visit for my wife's birthday was very poor. They are very quick to get your order and take money before you have eaten but want to remove you before you allotted time. Came to table asking for us to finish as there were people waiting. We still had 20 minutes left of our time and i still had drinks to finish, lady never came back to apologise for her mistake instead ignored our table. Manager then came up to us to say it was his mistake got wrong table. Again NO apology. I myself was very pleasant to staff when tackling them with the issue at hand. Very annoyed to end our evening on a negative note. I would also like to say the lamb in the biriyani was very dry and not moist as it should be. I do think the food looks good but is very overpriced. Would i eat here again answer is NO! Feels like your in a cattle market and all they want is for you to hurry up and F/Off ruined my wife's birthday with family.

I recently visited Tamatanga and was served by Wiktoria. She was incredibly attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect throughout our meal. The food was absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and served fresh. We had an amazing first experience at Tamatanga! The food was fantastic, and our waitress, Wiktoria, was an absolute gem. She recommended her favorite curry, which has now become my wife’s favorite as well. We'll definitely be back!

Having never visited we were very impressed. The waitress was very helpful and offered advice. We ordered our food as to which she said it will come out as it’s ready, not a fan of this style…. However the food came out fast and hot. As there was 4 of us on the table we had 4 small plates to share along with the main. It was absolutely delicious, best meal I’ve had for a while…. Thank you.

I recently dined at Tamatanga and had a mostly enjoyable experience, though one significant issue impacted our visit. The food was tasty and flavorful, and the ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant and inviting. Most of the staff provided excellent service, which made our meal quite enjoyable. However, we had a problem with one of the managers, Emily. There was a mix-up with our order: we received plain chips instead of the naan we had requested. While we were not too bothered by this minor mistake, Emily's reaction was troubling. Instead of addressing the error calmly, she created a scene, giving us death stares and whispering about us to other staff members. Her dramatic behavior delayed the delivery of our naan, which only arrived after we had finished our meal. As a manager, Emily's behavior was particularly disappointing. It set a poor example for the rest of the staff and negatively impacted our experience. The other staff members did their best to make up for the oversight, and we appreciated their efforts. We hope that management will address Emily’s behavior, as it was a stark contrast to the otherwise high standard of service at Tamatanga.

A vibrant and busy fresh take on an Indian Restaurant. Busy as you'd expect on a Friday night but with a bit of a wait they're happy to seat you. Drinks while you wait, a good selection of cocktails and beers. Not a vast menu which is good, still a dilemma on what to pick. Some tasty meals, lots of fun sides and plenty of extra choices for veggies, vegans and even gluten free. All the servers were friendly too, we had Lauren C look after us and she was lovely.

During a recent visit to Tamatanga. I had a notably disappointing experience. The evening was marred by poor service from a waitress named Beth, who displayed a lack of professionalism. Her use of slang, unwelcoming demeanour, and laughter at our food choices were unsettling. Additionally, her conversation with a colleague included inappropriate language, which was very concerning. This lack of courtesy and service detracted significantly from the experience, and I will not be returning. Based on this visit, I cannot recommend this restaurant for those seeking a pleasant dining experience. My suggestion is that more training is needed for the staff at this restaurant!

Had the saag paneer, came quickly and was lovely food. Great service and friendly staff

I think the price is high compare to the food quality and quantity. Plus the management is not great I was charged for a out of stock drink which never arrived, luckily I looked at the bill and ask staff to take it off.

Perfect for a date night. Their Indian street food was well portioned and thoroughly enjoyable.

When craving authentic flavourful Indian food, this is one of the places to go. The decor is colourful. Service is attentive. If you are not sure which one to order, ask for their recommendation. They do their best to explain the dishes. They even made curry spicy to suit my taste. My favourite is railway cabin lamb and keralan lamb curry with pulao. Thank you.

Great atmosphere and design for the restaurant. The food was great with a lot of interesting flavours. Perfect for a date night of friends get together right inside the city centre.

Amazing all round! From front of house, where we waited only 20mins on a busy Friday night for a table for four ( they are so well organised) to the amazing food which arrives promptly and really hot. It’s brilliant!! The servers are great, all of them are so attentive, friendly, helpful and happy!! The food was delicious, a real variety, we even ordered extras which came out very quickly too. Considering how busy the restaurant was we very super impressed!

Food was fine, service left something to be desired. Despite the place not closing for another 45mins, we were constantly interrupted by staff wanting to leave. Three of the four of us eating, clearing plates, the bill just arrived without asking, then an ask as to whether we were paying by card or cash, in the end just said whatever paid up over £120 and got out of there. Won’t be visiting again.

Went here for the first time tonight, very nice atmosphere and banging food! Shoutout to Eden on her excellent service, constantly attentive and very smiley! 10/10 will come back again

Very stylish, and tasty Indian street food. To repeat.

The food was poor couldn’t really taste any spices or Indian flavour the price was very expensive. I suggest if you want a curry to go to a real curry house there are plenty of them in and around Leicester. Drinks were super expensive £6 something for a non-alcoholic beer which was in a small can and when we asked for water for the table it was warm with hot glasses and no ice.

Drinks: Mango lassi was pleasent enough however came out in an old style milk bottle with a straw more suited to a 5 year old rather than a 39 year old. Lime and soda water came in a vase nice enough but again a glass would sarfice. Starter: Poppadom and chutneys to start... Poppadoms spot on, the chutneys was an odd choice but nice. Main: Food came out cold Prawns like rubber, tandoori chicken was nothing like tandoori chicken, lamb chops had a weird texture, side salad was old. Non of it tasted or appeared fresh as advertised. Needless to say we decided not to have pudding. Majority of the time a member of staff would be stood over you which made me feel uncomfortable, when clearing the table she took the dishes away without asking then returned to standing over us. There wad a different server who cleared the table and asked how the meal was, I asked if she would want the polite version or honest which i was honest, i was thanked for my honest feed back and assured the chef and kitchen team would be informed. On a positive note the cutlery was presented well. We left feeling disapointed, hungry and will not be returning agai. Certainly not the food and experience advertised.

We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our server Eden was fantastic and attentive! One of our group members had multiple food allergies that they took very seriously and cautiously, the manager came over to take his order. Food was quick and SO delicious. This was my second time at this location and 10/10 on all accounts.

My experience at Tamatanga was good specially it was the first time for me being there. The server Eden was friendly, always came to us to ask whether we needed anything or if the food was okay. She really engaged in conversation with us.

Overall, Tamatanga exceeded my expectations in every way. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. I will certainly be returning to enjoy more of their delicious offerings.

Tamatanga offers a vibrant and inviting atmosphere with consistently amazing food. I've visited over ten times this year, and the experience is always delightful. The chicken khurana is my favorite, bursting with flavor and perfectly cooked. Highly recommended for a fantastic dining experience!

Cattlemarket springs to mind. The waitress was on autopilot and clearly wasn't listening to what was being asked. Brought papadums and chutney's, no plates to eat them off ! Had to ask. Then 3 of our 4 meals appeared as we were still eating the papadums. Fourth meal and nann breads missing for a while, when I enquired as to where they were, I was told "we bring them out when they are ready". Surely all meals should be brought out to the table at the same time ? The plates were being cleared from the table before I had finished my meal. The bill was brought over, without being asked for it, then we were asked for payment while we were still finishing off our drinks. RUDE, RUDE, RUDE. Such a pity as the food was really nice. Not a pleasant dining experience. Felt rushed the whole time. Will definitely not be going back. Staff would benefit from going on a customer service course.

Food was overpriced, we asked for a different sauce but got the same green sauce/ chutney. I found the staff a bit rude and trying to kick you out as soon as possible to seat others. They were making comments on kids and laughing between themselves while pointing at the kids which is very disrespectful. It was my first and last time going there.

Too oily and salty. I went for the vegan thali thinking I could decide all the options in it, but didn’t realise 2 were preselected for me. The thali dishes are very cheap and “lazy Indian dishes”. One was a Bombay potatoes curry and the other a baby corn curry. The potatoes were okay, but I could barely make out the pieces of baby corn as they were drowning in an oily paste. The only saving grace was the spinach daal. That and the rice were quite nice. My additional curry of choice was the chickpeas. However it was a great disappointment. Served in a an oily tomatoey soup like sauce with barely a tablespoon worth of chickpeas in it. It’s really a disheartening since I’m sure my initial experience at Tamatanga was quite good. But charging £22 for what I was served is shocking. They also then add a discretionary service charge, which I promptly got removed. This is nothing against their service, as the staff was really good. However, I just can’t justify paying that much money for sub-par food. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll ever go back again.

It’s a fancy place to go for Indian food which are delicious with booze

Went out with some work friends for a work meal and the food and drinks was amazing. However, even though the waitresses had friendly mannerisms, I felt as if they were trying to clear our plates and glasses up and give us the bill in very quick succession to try and get us out of the restaurant as quickly as they could which made us all feel uncomfortable and rushed to eat our food.

I visited this place with friends. Starters are good but expensive if you compare with other indian restaurants also quality is less if you compare with others in this price range. I have ordered lamb curry which was bit chewy so returned it. Amritsari fish was good. Chicken was also good.baigan dish was good too but paneer dish was okay. Wrap was good. Drinks are expensive and we don’t like the taste of their own drinks.

Finding authentic Indian food in the UK can be quite challenging, so this place was a pleasant surprise, especially considering they market themselves as a fusion restaurant. The food was truly authentic. We tried their Bang Bang Chicken, Chaat Bombs, Tamatanga Non-Veg Thali, Papdi Chaat, Daal Makhani, and naan breads. All were excellent, but I highly recommend their Thali and Chaat Bombs. The service was outstanding, with staff being both pleasant and very attentive.

29/5/24 - 5.30pm Have been to tamatanga many times over the last 5 years however the service we were greeted today with was absolutely appalling. It was a party of 8 celebrating the end of university and 2 were running a little late however the waitress who greeted us initially was extremely cold and condescending- the restaurant was extremely empty - and we were not allowed to take a seat until the two other people got there which was literally 5 minutes later. Upon being seated the same waitress was extremely rude in mannerisms and glaring at our friends for no reason, multiple times , it even felt like we were being spoken about behind the counter even though all we wanted to do was sit and eat peacefully: We all felt extremely uncomfortable and this is the first time we have been treated like this in any restaurant. I understand everyone is human and may have off days but this was disappointing .. food was excellent as always but regarding service, extremely disappointing: the waitresses at the end were extremely lovely and kind which is refreshing from what we experienced earlier.

Lovely food, worth paying that bit more, if I eat out I love great food, and this was delicious, i can recommend the battered prawns & fish curry, prawns are large batter was crisp and fish was soft and fell apart. Drinks are superb.

This was the second time I have visited this restaurant and I thoroughly enjoyed the food both times. My mum and I visited at lunchtime and both ordered a curry with rice and nan bread. The bread was beautifully buttery and fluffy and the curry was delicious. We both really enjoyed our lunch and will definitely visit again.

I love this place, I come here alot for their jumbo prawn starter it's amazing, the staff are great and so is the decor and vibe.

Too rushed , too crowded, portion sizes are small relative to prices ,drinks not that great Far better places in leicester with much less hype....this ones worth one time visit

A small chain aiming to capture the Instagram cocktail crowd. Service is fast, tables are setup to take drinkers and diners with equal ease, cocktails are 2-4-1 until 7pm (at which point half of the customers left), and plenty of small plates to choose from if that's what you want. As someone looking for dinner, I was underwhelmed - seemed a poorly balanced curry. Sensible portions at an alright price, though.
