Aylestone Spice in Leicester

Blandest curry I’ve had pleasure of eating. Was disappointed as was recommended by friend but they hadn’t been for a year or so. Seemed like a new manager - bit overbearing. Went as a walk in as a couple, 2 mains, Jalfrezi and a madras- rice , keema naan . Other staff very friendly. I hope they pick up as local but will watch reviews before venturing back via the Ale Stone!

Worst Chicken dupiaza I have ever had, absolutely tasteless even though I asked for extra garlic, keema naan had hardly any meat in it too! Recently new to the area, thought I’d give this place a try - never again!

One of the most bland meals I have ever eaten. Lovely welcome and staff very friendly. Very much like a restaurant in a living room vibe which is something you can overlook if the food is nice. No taste to my mixed biriani, 1 piece of lamb and some shrimps, not a sign of any other meat: Tasted more like dry chilli powder rather than fresh chilli's. Veg curry accompaniment is more of a veg stew sauce with lumps of potato. Keema naan; worst Ive had, bland, not one single bit of taste to it. Unfortunately in my opinion a complete waste of my £13. Staff were nice. I was eventually able to pay by card but they prefer cash.

We had a family meal at this restaurant. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food came quickly and was fantastic. Lovely flavours and authentic. Great value for money and will certainly return.

We would like to say a big Thank you to all the staff at the Aylestone Spice restaurant on Aylestone Road Leicester, We got Married on the 6th February and we went there for a evening wedding meal with our family 15 of us in total they did everything to make sure that we had a wonderful evening celebrating with our wonderful family the food and service were amazing every one enjoyed the food. once again a big thank you from Mr and Mrs Wilson.

Very rude staff! Twice we have booked on line, only to be told there was a technical problem. So we were turned away. Won't go there again!!

Booked this in advance the day before. Arrived on time 1900, a family group of 9. There was another group in of around 8. Sat down and waiting to be served. Ordered a starter and poppadoms, (16) and 4 pickle trays. Received 12 and 3. Waited ages for starter and main, requested soft drinks, none came. Food ok when it arrived. Sadly I can't recall how many times try he female apologised to us for the service. At the counter clearly disorganised chaos with deliveries and overwhelmed. Priority has to be those in the restaurant and not those ordering takeaways. Never seen any of the staff before. Unfortunately and against my wishes, no complaints made. If there's lessons to be learnt, those in the restaurant are priority. With a new Indian a 100m away you need to up your game! Poor.

Ordered takeaway after 1.30hr wait told it was with the driver, phoned back 20min later and was told they hadn’t even cooked it, will not us again suggest you try the royal lounge 3 doors down

Absolute waste of space. I ordered via just eat @ 19:45 on Thursday 4th Jan 2024, was given an estimated time of arrival 20:20 to 20:40. I waited & waited & waited nothing arrived over an hour since I placed the order, I rang the restaurant to see where my food was, the guy on the end said still waiting for driver to get my food to yet deliver to me, so still a further 30 mins to wait! The guy I spoke to wasn’t even that bothered. Bad service,& no real care that I’d been waiting. Avoid this place!!! Do not order!!

Ordered a takeaway at 19.16 31/12/23 fine told order would be 75 minutes which was fine I rang the restaurant at 20.55 to see where order was it arrived shortly after I paid cash as we went to dish up noticed we had wrong order I rang the restaurant explained the situation they said put the food back in the bags we pick up and drop your food off again no problem mistakes happen.after another 25 minutes rang again was told fresh food being cooked be 40 minutes more.I did say cancel my oder. Family not happy. So re ordered with another company.I then did ring them again to say when they pick food up to return my payment at which point they said no refund as new food on the way I did explain I had reordered elsewhere.Sorry no refund will be given ! Food arrived 21.45 luke warm at best. My New order a chinese ordererd 2 minutes later. The issue for me is not the £39 but the priciple if Aylestone spice had just said sorry out of goodwill we will return payment.End off.

Stumbled upon this restaurant by accident and wasn't disappointed. Great food.

Just had my 1st delivery from A.S, lovely food, nice and tasty. Ordered Lamb bhuna, chicken Dansak, cheese n garlic nan bread and bombay aloo. Excellent service and delivery. Will definitely order again.

Hard to describe how awful my food was from here, quite possibly the worst curry I’ve ever tasted, (unfortunately I could only taste it and had to throw away the rest) My order was delivered in under 30mins and I live 10mins away. The microwave special seems to be left invisible and off the menu Extremely disappointed 1/10

As a family group we have been to this restaurant several times before. The staff have always been welcoming and it has been full of guests enjoying a sit down meal. Our visit last night was a complete contrast to these other visits and will certainly be our last. Upon arrival, the restaurant was empty apart from and endless stream of takeaway carriers walking through the restaurant with orange bags. This should have been our warning sign of what was to come! A member of staff behind the counter shouted across the restaurant ’table of 7? In the window.’ (We were a group of 8!). It took the staff member over 20 minutes to come over to us and take our order, in which time all you could hear throughout the restaurant was the phone ringing, which cut through the music being played clearly over the same system, and the just eat noise which was rediculously loud. When the staff member finally came over to take our order he left at least 3 times to take takeaway orders and had to be asked to come back as we had not finished. When the food finally arrived it was average at best. It took nearly 2 hours from arriving at the restaurant to the main courses being delivered to the table, one of which we were told would be about 10 minutes later than the rest. This happened to be the meal of the only child at the table (chicken tikka masala, so not a special request.) it would have been quicker for us to leave the restaurant and order the same food for takeaway. We felt like we were nothing more than an inconvenience being there on a Saturday night. There was no management or leadership which is clearly needed. Would I recommend Aylestone Spice? No. Will we be returning? No!

To say that the service was poor in this restaurant would be generous at best. We had booked a table for 7 people to celebrate several family birthdays that fall in October. This was our 3rd visit for the same occasion in as many years. Previously enjoyable visits have now been irreparably tarnished by our latest experience. The ‘waiting’ staff were not attentive, were more interested in answering the phone, attending to take away collections by Just Eat, and chatting to each other than paying the only table of guests in the restaurant any amount of appropriate attention. We were not greeted upon arrival, the member of staff chose to speak to us from the counter instead of coming to the table, when he did finally come and take our order, he left 3 times to return to the more important task of answering the phone and servicing takeaway drivers and then had to be asked to come back to the table to finish taking our orders. The food was average, took an age to come as “the kitchen was very busy” servicing take away orders and as such it was clear that guests in the restaurant were not a priority. We would suggest that Aylestone Spice should choose whether they actually want diners in the building and if so, look after them accordingly or to be solely a takeaway business, which appears to be something at which they are clearly more successful. We will not be returning nor will we be ordering a takeaway from them ever again. Very, very disappointing.

Madras or hotter=endless curry powder No chillis etc or culinary input..not 4 me

Ordered at the restaurant had to wait for order but worth the wait cooked fresh very tasty was not sure if they took card payment but they do so who ever put on comments they only take cash has got it wrong !!!

Portions are good, always quick service when I order, some of the dishes are a little too sweet.

We have been going to Aylestone Spice since the day it opened and have always recommended it to friends and family. We have used the takeaway facility probably twice per month. Sadly, the cost is spiralling and the price on the menu is not the price they charge. Our recent takeaway should have been £29.15 but they charged us £32.10 which included £.50 for use of the card machine. What is on the menu should be the charge incurred but to say we haven’t updated the on line menu yet, means you shouldn’t charge it. This isn’t the first time. We were overcharged 2 weeks ago. Be aware if you have a take away. Food is good but this is unacceptable practice and we won’t accept it. A phone call made to question it but sadly their response has lost our custom and those we recommended.

Chicken balti at £9.50 contained only three small pieces of chicken. The dish was tasty enough but consisted mainly of large chunks of onion.

The food is very tasty, and the portions are very generous. I highly recommend this restaurant, I do love my spices and Indian food, so this was definitely a treat. The staff are hospitable and friendly, we were served by Yusuf, well spoken friendly peer, who explained the dishes we ordered, and the fine spices that were in them. Well done Yusuf “High Five” I have travelled around to many Far East, and Asian countries, and dined in many fine restaurants. Spoke to Yusuf who recommended some great dishes. Top food! Reccomend the Dhal and mixed grill, always a satisfying meal.

I am a local and know that this is a great place to eat in or take away. I recommended this to a friend and last night he and two of his friends wanted somewhere to eat so we came here. It was a really great night, the food was perfect and Ysef provided us with first class service. I was so happy that the people I was with enjoyed the experience so much and went away very happy.

Was really looking forward to coming here after moving to the local area. Staff were really friendly.. however, myself and my partner have had upset stomaches since visiting 3 days ago, the food was bland and just not worth the aggravation. The restaurant to the eye was incredibly clean, but I do wonder about what the customers cannot see.

Good food. Soft drinks reasonable price. Take your own alcohol is a super idea. The food was well cooked and presented. More than enough to eat - starters would have made us burst!

We have eaten here many times. The food is always great and the option to BYOB helps save the pennies. Service has always been fast and the staff helpfull.

One of the worst Indians I've ever had! Can't believe that in a town like Leicester, the standards have fallen so low! The sauce in the curry was watery and flavourless apart from the obvious heat, the lamb chops were tiny and well overcooked, even the rice was awful! The naan was OK though! 🤷🏾‍♂️ On the plus side, my belly has been OK so far, every cloud and that, I guess! In regards to owners reply: you didn't take my name when ordering - I'd be happy to provide proof of order, as I have the receipt. It'd be great if people could actually take responsibility for their products instead of dismissing it. I was also disappointed at the standard of food! I was really hoping to have found a good place to eat with outstanding food! Sadly not the case! I can only go by what I received.

We ordered a takeaway delivery, which took 2 hours!! With no warning it would take so long! When the food finally arrived the chips were cold, the prawns in the prawn bhuna were tasteless. The naga was hot but tasteless. Definitely would not recommend and we certainly will not order again. The worse curry we have had in a long time.

First time order & the food was really amazing! We (Me & Gf) Ordered Chicken tikka(was sooo tasty), Lime & Cashew nut rice (wow) Lamb Biriani (perfect) with a vegetable curry side (yum) and finally Naan bread, poppadoms & mango sauce dip. The restaurant gave us extra x3 poppadoms & extra dipping sauce, lime & mint & a mix of onions. Thank you for the extras! Our food was also delivered by the actual Chef which was nice. The food was absolutely delicious & the portion size was really good too. Excellent quality food with plenty of choice on the menu, we will definitely be back for more! I have been so disappointed recently with our two regular Indian takeaways that we decided to try Aylestone Spice for a change....so glad we did! Well cooked, tasty food...delivered piping hot and with a lovely smiley delivery guy.

So use to use couple of years ago ..tad expensive .had takeaway and the portion size has deffo decreased ..saw they are now on justeat .word of warning DO NOT order thru that curries are £2 dearer and tandoori mixed grill £5 dearer than there website .I have contacted them about this .2 months down the line still heard nothing

Excellent Indian restaurant at Leicester. We live at this town so we have been to a few and this is the best indian restaurant we have been by far. The Lemon Cashew nuts rice is without comparison, and the veggie samosas are truly good. It is a very small restaurant with an excellent quality food. Do not be mislead by the appearance of the exterior in the pictures as these are not fair with the actual quality and standards of the place. The service was superb. Seriously recommended.

Received exceptional quality of curry and authentic taste of Bhuna with Chicken Tikka. It was spicy as Madras and absolutely loved it. I would like to say that they have original and authentic flavours. I am pleased to know there are excellent restaurants like Aylestone Spice Leicester that listens to their customers and go above and beyond to provide outstanding services.

Tried the set meal last night. Excellent food, all fresh ingredients, really good curry, better than some I've eaten in more expensive restaurants. Delivery was free, and on time.

Once again, a truly superb takeaway. Fresh ingredients, fantastically prepared, very consistent, incredibly tasty and curries with many flavour layers. My go to curry is their garlic chilli chicken masala...thoroughly enjoyable every time. Rich, masses of flavour and beautiful stripped chicken which I much prefer....

This was my second delivery and I was very disappointed not only was the order very late again after dishing it up it appeared to be the wrong order they did give me a £5 refund for the late delivery but I’m not sure if I’ll go back for a 3rd time.

Above average curry. Ordered chilli garlic chicken which I wanted hotter which was really good. Okra bhindi which looked really fresh and tasted great. pilau rice was good, naan, poppadom and all came to £17. It was Saturday night and was told it would be 45mins but they rushed it out in 20mins. Nice friendly staff. Not the biggest restaurant.

First time ordering from aylestone spice. I had the prawns on puri which was lovely but could of done with more tomato flavour.then I had the chefs seafood special with king prawns, wow! I haven't ate king prawns that size for years. Huge! And a good meaty texture, I highly recommend it especially if you like spice! Delivery was good, very polite delivery man.food was so colourful and genuinely worth every penny, which to be honest, the prices are very reasonable indeed. I most certainly would order from you guys again !!!

I was staying at the Fosse Park Premier Inn about a mile away. It's a 5 minute bike ride, or a 20 minute walk along a busy road; but worth the effort. I had dropped in on my way back from work, to book a table, and at the same time give them a couple of beers to put in the fridge for when I came back later; they were happy to oblige, very friendly, and eager to please. (Bring Your Own Booze is essential if you want alcohol, as they don't have a licence. Turn right out of the door and there's a Co-op 30 yards away, or a Tesco Express a bit further on; half a mile in the other direction is an Aldi.)

Visited on several occasions now, always had amazing food and service ! Highly recommend

We visit weekly with my elderly mum who absolutely love's it here. Quality food, clean ,friendly so popular you are best to book even in the week. Added bonus you can take your own alcohol. Love this place

we booked a table here whilst staying at the nearby premier inn. we arrived to find a small but very clean and pleasant curry house with almost all tables taken so good atmosphere. food was very nice and one of the best curries we have had for a long time. staff friendly, its bring your own alcohol , prices very reasonable. A very enjoyable experience. sadly we do not live in the area so wont be able to enjoy this curry house until our next visit to see our daughter in uni.

First visit to Aylestone Spice. This restaurant offers a warm welcome from the staff and very tasty food. It’s a small cosy restaurant but I can see it gaining a big reputation with the quality of food and service. Take your own alcohol, it’s actively encouraged. Highly recommended.

Don't know what has happened here but this has gone from being one of the best Indian takeaways to one of the worst in the space of 3 weeks. The menu has changed the food is now bland and tasteless more like your typical Bangladeshi curry rather than the proper Indian that this used to be. Wont be using or recommending again
