Good atmosphere to have a bite!

Great ambiance, a good variety of dishes both traditional and restaurant specialties and friendly staff. What more could you ask for?

You can really tell that they try to produce tasty food. It might take a little longer than most Indian restaurants but it is worth the wait. The tandoori chicken was particularly soft and flavourful. I also enjoyed their own unique take on tomato salsa as part of the chutney tray. The staff are attentive, quiet and well natured too. It is slightly more expensive than what I'm used to having moved away from London some years ago and when you factor in the 12.5% service charge on top (which worked out to about £20) the bill does creep up considerably. Sadly this will prevent us from visiting as often as we like... but we will return... eventually.

Lovely food, but service was slow (an hour to deliver 3 mains) when the restaurant was quiet. But the main issue was the noise. There are no soft furnishings so a half empty restaurant was uncomfortably loud to sit in. Food is great - just get it takeaway !

This was our first visit to Tamarind but it will not be our last. We were made very welcome and were given some recommendations from the menu to try. It was great to depart from our usual choices and we were both pleased with the rich flavours and delightful cooking of our meals. There was a clam, peaceful atmosphere with efficient and friendly staff. Looking forward to going back.

Absolutely amazing meal, served by wonderful, attentive, funny staff. Adu, was very engaging. I had king prawn puri, followed by lamb chops. They don't do chops as a main, but did for me, large and very tasty. On the pricy side, but we'll worth it. Highly recommend, this restaurant. Paul

We visited Tamarind for a family dinner and had a lovely time. The service was friendly and the food absolutely delicious. We loved the choice in the menu - there really is something for everyone. I am a vegan and the team were so attentive, and most of the menu was available for me as a vegan option, so o really did not feel left out - I had so much more choice than most restaurants! Thanks to the team! I highly recommend you visit.

Great service fabulous food will be going back

After reading all the good reviews we thought we'd try a take away from here last night. We were extremely disappointed and are unsure how they have so many great reviews. The portion sizes are small. 2 samosas from here is like 1 samosa from elsewhere. The paratha was like a small tortilla wrap, it was definitely not a traditional paratha. We ordered 1 paratha and they gave us 2 x small tortilla type wraps. We also got a chicken rogan & lamb bhuna. Both tasteless with no taste of an Indian curry. The pilau rice, tandoori chicken & sheek kebab were ok but not the best. We will not be returning here again unfortunately.

The Tamarind food is like no other i've ever eaten. We've been coming here for a few years now and won't go anywhere else, even though we live in Hemel Hempstead, we dont mind travelling knowing we will get great value for money and amazing food. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff and they are so accommodating to ever need. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

As always the food , ambience and friendliness of Anu and Islam at Tamarind were excellent. It is my go to Indian restaurant in Potters bar and love the chicken Mollmow followed by Lamb Shajahani. A lovely evening with good food And friends

If we ever fancy spicy Asian food Tamarind is our default restaurant - having eaten here numerous times it has never been a disappointment on the level of tasty quality food, and excellent service. Last night was an impromptu visit, only decided on during the afternoon. The starters were of impressive proportions, just as well that we didn't order the main course until we had eaten the first course! We opted to share a main, and along with a couple of side dishes and we left the restaurant with no room for a dessert. Having shared the chicken mollmow, and Jalfry sizzler to start our tastebuds were hot enough from the variety of tasty and hot spices so we opted for the Haryali Masala which came in a rich creamy and amazing sauce . The food isn't what one would find in a traditional Indian restaurant, with Sri Lankan influence, and the attention from the staff was first class. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough, and we are lucky to live locally to it as we would travel quite some distance to dine here. The entrance is unassuming, and masks the quality of what is within.

This restaurant never fails to impress…impeccable service, fabulous food! A real jewel in Potters Bar. Well worth travelling to sample this restaurant…..highly recommended.

This is a hidden gem. Food is amazing and the service is even better. They have a mix of Indian, and Sri Lankan food. Very good and I loved every bit of it. The best part is you name a dish and the chef will make it for you if you have something that you would love to try. You also got a very good collection of alcoholic beverage options. This team is very accommodating, I saw people walk in at 9:30 pm and the team still surveyed them and cooked for them. Didn't see this hospitality in central London 😆. The food can be as spicy or hot as you wish 😜, so don't forget to let the team know your preference. I love this place and will make it a point to return again. After all the team is a good bunch to have an after party. They are very supportive of what your needs and wants are. Toilets are clean too. Food is very very affordable. Give it a go if you are close to Tamarind.

We had four curries, all very very good. It was so good we didn't event think of taking pics! High praise considering it was our first visit, we came on the back of the TripAdvisor reviews. Definitely coming back.

Would suggest that the use of cloth napkins to add to the excellent service and all other aspects of the meal was superb. Brilliant.

A wonderful meal at Tamarind and the food was so tasty. The staff so attentive and could not do enough for us to ensure that we hade a lovely evening! My son also ordered a wonderful delivery to our house, and the friend's who were with us were overwhelmed with the portion size, and still are talking about how delicious the food was!

This is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to . The quality of the ingredients and flavours were exceptional as well as the service . We tried the gourmet menu recommended by the lovely waiter which was a selection of dishes from the main menu .everything on the menu was so delicious ,.We really can’t wait to go back, all I can say is compliments to the chefs !

The best Indian meal I have had in a long time. Coupled with warm, personal service and a real family-feel, last night's experience could not have been better. My first visit, but definitely not my last! We were a group of 15 celebrating a friend's birthday. The restaurant gave us our own space up the top. The waiters gave fantastic dish recommendations and everything was expertly cooked with wonderful spices/flavours. I am grateful to the chef for doing an amazing job, and to the waiters for bringing the meal to life with their sense of humour, kindness and warmth. We were very kindly gifted some dishes im addition to the many we had ordered and it was impressive how the team cooked and delivered everything together at the perfect time. I honestly can't recommend this restaurant enough or praise the staff sufficiently for what a fantastic evening and dining experience they created. Try it out - you won't be disappointed!

I have to say that the position and street view of this restaurant should definitely not put you off from walking and dine in this outstanding restaurant. We booked a dinner for 8 just for a change and were overwhelmed by how lovely it felt to dine in Tamarind. Firstly we arrived 9 instead of 8 and were swiftly accommodated. The atmosphere right from the start was very friendly and we were promptly served by knowledgeable and professional staff. The dishes were exceptional, bursting with rich spices and perfectly cooked. The staff's warmth and dedication ensured our comfort and satisfaction and showed true hospitality. We ordered various dishes which arrived exactly as they should, tasting all exceptional & special. They also implemented all our dietary needs as well as accommodating children ;-)) We loved the personal touch, we will come again and highly recommend Tamarind to others ;-))

We all Loved our evening at Tamarind. An extensive menu of specials from all over India including many I had never seen elsewhere. Friendly, fun & engaging staff gave us good advice what to order & encouraged us to be a little more adventurous & to choose from their specials which they expertly matched to our taste. All dishes were beautifully presented, decent sized portions, fresh & tasted amazing! Best Indian by far that I have found so far in the area!!

I had a great meal here with my friends last night. All the food I tried was very well made and authentic. In particular I’d recommend the Jalfray sizzler, Hariyali chicken and garlic chilli chicken masala. The naans and rice were fresh and flavourful. The waiters were really nice too, I’ll definitely come back.

I haven't even left the restaurant & am writing this review because we have had such a lovely evening. It was our first time visiting Tamarind & as soon as we walked in we were impressed - with both the decor and the very warm welcome, which continued throughout our evening until the moment we left. And then there was the amazing choice of dishes, all of which were so delicious, perfectly spiced & fresh, with one of the dishes being assembled at our table. As for the chicken, it was amazingly tender. It felt like we had had an experience rather than just a meal out with thanks to the very attentive & friendly staff and the fantastic food. If you are looking for a great Indian, this is the one for you!

Really amazing, high quality Indian food. If you are in Potters Bar or nearby and you fancy some Indian, this place is a MUST. Sadly we are based in East London but we are considering coming back to Potters Bar only because we want to visit Tamarind again!

We had a lovely time at Tamarind - we went when it was not busy and the waiting staff were so attentive, we had poppadoms served before we'd even ordered drinks, the starters came super quickly, as did the mains. Wonderful place, would definitely recommend! Never been so happy to pay a service charge as the service was so good :)

Great customer service, had an issue with a previous order which was resolved swiftly. Best Indian around, really tasty and dishes aren't oily at all. My regular for a takeaway in PB.

Came here on a Saturday evening with my fiancé. We were nicely greeted by the men at the bar who swiftly took us to a table. Very quick service and very tasty food! Definitely recommend the cheese naan with any curry you get. The poppadoms with all the chutney is also great. Will definitely be back to try more curries as we live around the corner!

After reading the reviews I decided to give this restaurant a try last night for takeaway, I'm not only disappointed but furious at what I can only describe as the worst quality food I've had in a very long time. I cannot believe that this was cooked by anyone who had a clue about Indian food. Every element was poor quality and flavourless. Considering how expensive takeaway food is these days, it is unacceptable to provide such poor quality. Never again for us.

We are regulars and have been for 3 years. Always fresh, always excellent and thank you for friendly service.

As we live closer to Cockfosters we’ve mainly got takeaways from either bayleaf or tandoori nights and since the latter closed we’ve given a few others a try. We now need look no further. We’ve had deliveries the past 3 Fridays and the food has been excellent everytime. Curries are really tasty and not too oily which we hate. Everything is fresh and can highly recommend. Having dined in various Indian restaurants across Suffolk, Essex and Hertfordshire, Tamarind has ranked very high. A very friendly service producing high quality Indian dishes. I would recommend the Special Shashlick Masala and the onion/green pepper naan bread. Oh, and try their onion bhaji, superb.

Food good, seemed to me the staff were very busy and I had to keep asking for assistance. When I ordered a cider I got a beer, but they changed it immediately. Not the best experience.

Ordered our food via Uber Eats at 8pm. At 8.50pm it said our food was ready to collect, we were round there 5 minutes after that, and was told our food would be another 10 minutes. After those 10 minutes we were asked how we placed the order, after which we were left there waiting. After another 10 minutes with no communication as we sat waiting at a table, I eventually had to corner the guy dealing with it at the bar and he said it'd be another 5 minutes, they didn't receive the order before (but clearly somehow did after we arrived to collect it and weren't asked at any point what the order was). During this time no one had informed us of what was going on, we were waiting for half an hour in the end at the restaurant just to get our food. Could have at least offered us a drink by way of apology for waiting for so long, or offered any kind of communication whatsoever. After our food came, we were given some onion bhaji by way of apology, but after the lack of communication the experience was already ruined. The only reason I'm offering 2 stars is because the food itself, as always, was delicious, but they have seriously let themselves down by not just telling us what had happened. As good as the food is here, I just don't see us ordering takeaway here again if that's the service you get when the restaurant makes a mistake.

We came here for a family birthday meal and had a really special experience. The price was very reasonable and food was delicious. We were well looked after by Islam and the team who made sure we had a great time!

Excellent! Definitely the best Indian for miles. The madras was amazing, the sag paneer and chana masala we're the best my partner has ever had.

From the moment we stepped in this restaurant we felt welcome and the staff did everything they could to ensure we were comfortable. It was our first visit, after seeing positive reviews we decided to check it out. They were clearly short staffed but it didn't matter because the few staff in there were going above and beyond for us. Honestly, the food was beautiful. Fantastic service, clean, lovely atmosphere and the best Indian food we have tasted (no word of a lie). We will be back!

Our first visit to the Tamarind Indian restaurant in Potters Bar. Wow, what an amazing dinner. All dishes cooked and spiced to perfection. Also, wonderful service provided by Islam and the rest of the staff. If you like Indian cuisine then this restaurant really is a "must visit" at your earliest opportunity. It's no wonder this place is voted the best Indian restaurant in Hertfordshire. 5- star food, 5-star service. Will be going back there very soon.

Regularly takeaway here and the restaurant is lovely to eat in as well. Really friendly staff and food is some of the best around.

Absolutely great experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by some of the friendliest staff I've ever seen. Always attentive, always polite, really caring. The menu selection is great, offers a variety of choice without overwhelming. The design of the menu helps with this. The service itself was quick without feeling pressured, and the food itself was fantastic from beginning to end.

The food is good quality, fresh and delicious in this restaurant and the service is amazing. It’s about 20min drive for us but it’s worth it.

Had a great meal in this well decorated curry house. As you walk in it's not as you'd normally expect, has a great atmosphere and the staff are really friendly. The food selection was excellent, especially the specials section of the menu. For a first timer I was having a hard time choosing. Our meal tasted beautiful, very well cooked and spiced. The naan was crispy just how I like it. All of this washed down with the obligatory Kingfisher beers. Great restaurant and a must visit if in Potters Bar.

Excellent fresh indian fusion food.

Having ordered takeaway from Tamarind for a long time, tonight I finally took the chance to eat-in there. The food was even better served fresh than when delivered, the staff friendly and the service fantastic. From now on I will stick to visiting in person where possible (although the takeaway food is superb as well). Without a shadow of a doubt the best Indian restaurant I have ever eaten at (and I have eaten at a lot) and probably the best restaurant in Potters Bar full stop.

Was bland and runny, portions was small for wat u paid for. Also no mint dip sauce with poppadoms n salad which you get free with any other Indian restaurant n takaway. Very disappointed.

I ordered from Tamarind for my dad's birthday meal last night and the food was exquisite. Especially the two mains (chicken and lamb) and cashew nut curry. We also got a free bottle of wine over £40! Great service on the phone and from delivery guy - very personable. It was a little later than expected but we ordered at the busiest time. We will definitely use them again - we live in Cuffley and it's hard to get food of a high standard. Try Tamarind, definitely deserving of Best Curry in Hertfordshire. Thanks everyone!

We arrived to a very warm, friendly welcome and were seated straight away. The staff wore masks throughout our whole visit and hand sanitiser was available on all the tables. The facilities were all clean. The food arrived to our table in good time, so we did not wait long inbetween ordering and receiving our food. The menu had a very good variety that would suit both people who like mild or spicy food. The portions were very generous and the food was very delicious. The staff gave little extras after our meal: orange slices, coffee liqueur or a tropical juice and chocolate with the bill. It was a lovely evening and the whole family really enjoyed the meal and atmosphere was very friendly and relaxing. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience very nice.

Excellent food and a good atmosphere

This restaurant is by far the best Indian Cuisine I’ve had in many years. The staff are friendly and genuinely welcome you to have a lovely evening. I’ve tried several dishes now and all have been exceptional. I highly recommend you give this restaurant a try it will be your new favourite it sure is mine.
