The food was good, specially the paneer dishes. But the rating of 1 star is due to how unwelcoming the staff were. I booked a table for 7 mentioning that 4 adults and 3 children along with their age. Also asked for a table with pram space as the babies might sleep and want to be in their pram. From the moment we arrived they did not seem happy to see a pushchair get inside. They kept asking if more adults are joining and were disappointed that they gave us a bigger space where at least two babies were not going to eat. (Hence goes there 50 GBP PP rule). If the restaurant had issues with babies visiting they should have mentioned during reservations. Would have saved both the trouble. Any ways the food and service was good but the above made the experience for us bad.

Best biryani I've had in the UK. Chicken with the pie crust. You can tell it's a labour of love and enough for two people. This place is high end without pretension. Grilled starters were delicious too.

We had the selection of mains in a silver crescent series of bowls, which was decent but really small and certainly not worth £32pp: the prawn and chicken dishes had two prawns / small pieces of chicken respectively and overall the dishes were barely more than a starter. That and the mouse poison bait station hidden on the floor behind our seat means we won’t be returning.

Average Indian restaurant in London. Our table was quite close to the kitchen so we couldn’t have a proper dining experience as waiters kept passing by but apart from that everything was average. Their dessert selection was good. Chai can be improved.

Wow! Fantastic meal at Tamarind Kitchen. We have eaten at many Indian restaurants but this is our favorite, by far. This is essentially high end Indian food - great service, great drinks, great atmosphere and the food was just amazing. We are vegetarians but had lots of options. The daal was the best we ever had but so was everything. Just come here - you will not be disappointed! Could not have asked for more

We had a great dinner here! The biryani was especially impressive with its great depth of flavour. The cocktails were also large and the presentation was nice. The restaurant was a little hot and our server did rush us a bit, but otherwise a great spot for an upscale Indian.

In this place you have restrictions on what you can order, like you must order one main per person regardless of how much you’re spending on other stuff. If you ask they may “””allow””” you to avoid this rule. It’s crazy that even having a menu you can’t choose freely from it, if you want people to spend more change your menu structure instead of forcing people to buy stuff. The food itself was pretty normal, nothing too crazy. Probably you can get better for less money.

Great place for date night, We had a lot of their small plates and the lamb shank was to die for, not your typical dry lamb shank but packed full of spices and flavour! ambience was great with the low mood lighting, their mocktails were lovely and the waiter was great as he managed to make the cocktails with out alcohol! More on the pricey side but its what you pay for counts!

I have been there a couple of times but for the first time the staff turned us off saying that it’s a fine dine restaurant and the minimum spend applies. We are in 2024 in london and based on someone’s outfit or looks no restaurant gets the right to state such conditions, of course we don’t mind paying the 50 but that’s not how the staff should treat their customers. Never the less I am happy they turned us down because we found an even better place The Kricket, which has been so far the best Indian place I’ve been to!

The food here was absolutely amazing! It is Indian cuisine from various regions, but with a modern twist. We had venison samosas which were extremely flavourful. One sometimes relies on nostalgia against their better judgment. After an 8-year long hiatus, we eagerly anticipated our return to Tamarind Kitchen. We leafed through the menu, and ordered the chicken chops, lamb kebab, and kerala prawn curry. As we awaited the food, we marveled at the ornate interior decor, and the 5 quid sides of rice and raitha that funded it. The grilled items arrived: 3 small bits of chicken, 3 cylindrical lamb kebab pieces. The portions were tiny, but were at least tasty. They were down the hatch in 10 bites, and our wallets were 35 quid lighter. We marveled at the interior decor again as we awaited the entree. The Kerala prawn curry arrived. Imagine a chicken tikka masala at a standard high street lunch buffet. Now swap the chicken for prawn. This was apparently the vision this restaurant had in mind for this dish: an overly spicy, watery tomato soup, in a disconcerting shade of red, with rubbery prawn bits. Completely lost were the subtle notes of coconut and Malabar spices advertised on the menu. Even the rice was bland and uninspired. The rice! Our comments to the staff on the quality of the food were met with bemusement and a shrug of the shoulders. Typically, when one spends north of 75 quid on a meal, a full belly is the least one would expect. But there we were, back on the street, on the hunt for a Thai restaurant in Soho.

Had the best ever Indian meal at Tamarind kitchen last night. It was super busy, & we were a party of 3 without a reservation, but promptly gave us a table downstairs. Our delightful waiter, Dhirender, was super efficient, and an expert on the food choices, flavours, portion sizes for sharing, and accompaniments. We shared 2 plates for starters - grilled lamb cutlets and sticky pork ribs. So flavoursome and perfect combo. Then shared the Hyderabadi lamb shank, which came sliced up for sharing, and chicken korma and Old Delhi butter chicken, with steamed rice and garlic naans. It was truly delicious and tasted freshly prepared, not reheated. Rice was fluffy, not sticky, and naan, bubbled, crisp and perfect! Full of flavour and tender meat, we could not finish the 3 plates, and rolled out of there with full bellies. Service was fantastic, and wine list extensive options. Will definitely return. Thank you for a wonderful evening, and scrumptious food. And thank you Dhirender for spoiling us so attentively.

It is common knowledge that the UK offers some of the BEST Indian cuisine outside of the Indian Subcontinent. On an unseasonably cold and wet London evening, the thought of having some spicy, hot, hearty Indian food to battle the elements seems like a most appealing and perfect idea. Tamarind Kitchen, the sister of the Michelin 1* Tamarind, is located inside of Soho and just a short leisurely walk from our hotel, hence our pick for dinner venue. Totally famished, the result of missing lunch. For tonight’s dinner, we went flat out and ordered the following: - Crispy Sprouting Broccoli - Dungar Chicken Chops ( Tandoori Thigh Tikka ) - Tandoori char-grilled Lamb Chops - Badami Murgh Korma ( Delicate sauce of Almond, Green Cardamom, Saffron ) - Calcutta Bhuna Gosht - Kerala Prawn Curry ( Kadampuli, Coconut, Shallots, Malarbar spices ) - Cucumber Kaita - Lemon Rice - Chili Garlic Naan - Mango Lassi Most of the dishes’ flavor profiles were so exotic and delicious, they were simply heads and shoulders above the many uninspired and mediocre offerings we are accustomed to in Toronto. The mouth-watering coating and seasoning of the Tandooris in particular was simply amazing ... a totally new and wonderful taste experience for some of us.

Firstly he told us we’d have to make a minimum order of atleast three dishes to even place one so we over ordered inspite of not being very hungry ! When the food arrived we spotted a hair in the food and he very rudely denied that this didnot come from his kitchen and later on begrudgingly offered to replace the dish! He was very conceited and spoke to us quite disrespectfully! We left the place without eating and even paid for our food! When we left the place and said we’d write a review here about our unpleasant experience he stated that we can’t mess with him because this is not India - this was quite a racist comment and I’ve decided to never set foot in this place again. It's a nice restaurant with overpriced food. The best thing for me was the lamb kebabs they had a great flavor and taste to it. Next time if I was there I would order the kebabs and the bhel puri. The other dishes we had got were okay at the most. The lamb chops were lacking flavor and spice and were very fatty. The so-called King of Street Food, wheat poori filled with goodies & chutneys was bang average, and I would recommend you spending £16 on that. The avocado bhel puri (savory beach snack of puffed rice, tangy chutney combined with avocado) was nice and something different and was something I'd ordered again. The butter chicken curry was very average and didn't really hit the spot. The lamb Curry (bhuna gosht) was decent but again didn't really hit the spot. Overall the service was good and the restaurant is lovely but I don't go for the service and atmosphere I go for the food and therefore spending £360 for 4 people was a total rip off especially for the quality of food.

A nice and spicy dinner on the 3rd of January. We were seated a nice corner table at ground floor. Very courteous and efficient service all along, which deserves 5 stars. So why not 5 stars overall? Because while food was superbly cooked (dungan chicken chops, jaipuri lamb boti both super tender, mellow and juicy…), it was really too spicy. To a point where it kills the underneath savours. Which is a real pity. Even my wife who is a huge fan of spicy food was struggling. The plum chicken do piyaza, the kaali dal and to a lesser extent, the Hiderabadi lamb shank were accompanied with a fiery sauce / backdrop. The first one had that mention on the menu and we actually asked the question to the waiter. He said that was midlt spicy, a bit above the butter chicken. So that would be the main negative point of the dinner as they clearly know how to cook and season food. No doubt. But food has to be adapted to European palates. Finally, this is definitely not a cheap place (£200+ for a dinner for 2 with 2 small grilled plates, 2 main courses, 2 rices, 1 cheese naan, 1 naan, 1 bottle of pinot noir, 2 raitas and 1 bottle of still water). But that’s Soho London and for those who can stomach the heavy spice, it’s top food.

Food was good but service was questionable. We went here to celebrate a milestone birthday and as we came in we were reminded we only had the table until 7. (We came in at 5.15pm, we were running 15 mins behind and whilst I don’t mind a time limit, I do mind if the restaurant is not even half full by the time we leave). We opted for a few starters and 2 x of the veg set menu things and 2 x of the meat set menu. The food was good but what happened next really has left a bad taste in my mouth. There were a few walk-in customers, some were told there was a minimum spend requirement and others were not. What was odd was that it was the south Asian families who were told about a minimum spend, but if you were Caucasian, you were not. I found this really upsetting and shocking, I cannot believe a south Asian restaurant would do that to south Asian people… or anyone really. We paid the bill and left… I found the £40 service charge far too much considering we had to ask for bottled water several times - but my guests did not feel comfortable complaining seeing how other south Asian people were treated (and being south Asian ourselves). Really disappointing, I hope management review this and respond.

Very delicious modern Indian, and the curries were full of flavour. A bit expensive for the chicken chops and lamb chops, as you can probably get something similar in Dishoom for a fairer price. The curries also leaned on the more expensive price but the flavours in it made up for it. The spinach curry was on the saltier side for my liking, nevertheless… still finished it! I would return.

Fabulous food, butter chicken and kerla curry were spicy without being overwhelming, tge garlic nan was pipping hot and dripping with garlic butter, whilst rice was light and fluffy. Second time I've been and I loved it! Great service too.

Bokade ej bord . Allt behövde man beställa separat. På hela beloppet lägger de på 15% i "dricks avg".

Best paneer tikka ever. The biryani was a slight let down as it was very intensely flavored and overpowering. The service was perfect.

Food was amazing. Chandhni panner is the best one in London. Top quality panner. I recommend everyone to try this cuisine. Rest Raj kchori was marvellous full of rainbow flavours. Papdi chat was nicely presented with mashed potato and chickpea base with Tamarind sauce. All staff member was very polite and professional.

Christmas party, group of eight. Every single person in our group said it was “the best Indian food they have ever eaten” - Service was very good, not rushed, and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. Prices are as to be expected in Soho. I would say the drinks were on the higher side. The final bill includes a discretionary 15% service charge, which we were happy to pay.

From the first minute entering the restaurant we were impressed with the friendly and helpful staff. Great choice of food on the menu and the staff took the time to explain what everything was. The food was delicious. There was a great buzz/atmosphere in the restaurant. First visit but not the last.

Food was pretty good Only downside is that the servers are very pushy with trying to get you to order more and more things to juice your wallet.

Decent food, poor service and arrogant manager: our order was messed up, we were given half of the breads we ordered. Balance did not arrive till we had finished despite reminding them three times. Our bill was inflated with items that we did not order. Needless to say it made our experience less than pleasant. Worst part was manager tried to blame us for ordering more than once. He did say he will investigate but no apology. We won’t be returning.
