Avoid Tamarind Kitchen. We went to Tamarind Kitchen a month ago (6 guests) and we were forced to order starters, despite not wanting any. We put our order in for mains and the waitress came back and said we needed to order starters as the mains would take a long time to arrive. We said we didn't mind and that we were not hungry enough to order starters. She said we had to and insisted. We were all embarrassed by her unprofessional behaviour. We ended up ordering starters against our will. The food is overpriced for what you get and the service is poor. I've emailed Tamarind Kitchen to get in touch with the manager, but my email has been ignored. This says a lot about the contempt that customers are treated with. I'm going to escalate it until I speak to the manager. Ignore the positive reviews and go to an Indian restaurant that actually serves good food and treats customers with respect.

Some passion fruit cocktail was absolute tasteless and not worth it. Lasuni palak was okay but daal was watery. Lamb was great so was naan. But not worth the prices. May not visit again. I compared this to Bangalore Express Cafe near monument station and tamarind kitchen is 👎. Veg is limited.

We had such a great dinner here! It’s a lot like its sister restaurant Tamarind, but where Tamarind is more fine dining, this place has a more laid-back vibe and much better prices. The atmosphere was super cozy and relaxed, and the staff were really friendly and attentive. The food was fantastic, everything was full of flavor and looked amazing without feeling too fancy. To me, the Ras Malai dessert was the star of the show, it washed down everything we ate ahahahaha. Overall, it’s the perfect spot for a chill evening with great food, and we’ll definitely be back!

By far one of the best Indian restaurants I have had the opportunity to discover in my life. The meat is of excellent quality and cooked to perfection. We tasted both red and white meat, and both were perfectly mastered. The side dishes were simply delicious. Their extensive wine and cocktail list, with or without alcohol, is carefully chosen from across Europe, and all their offerings are a perfect blend. Regarding the team and the welcome, nothing to complain about: we were treated like kings. The team is dynamic, responsive, attentive and very efficient, in addition to their good humor and their perfect knowledge of the dishes. Special note: we forgot our keys in the restaurant, and one of the waiters stayed later to wait for us and return them. Reflecting their benevolence and kindness, this restaurant offers us first of all excellent cuisine in addition to a royal welcome in a trendy and intimate setting, don't miss it. The food cannot be faulted. My butter chicken was absolutely lovely. However I felt a little watched by the waiters. As soon as I finished something they would come to take the plate whilst I was still chewing. I personally dont mind things being left on the table till the end but i know some people would want them removed. But still, everything was removed so quickly from in front of us that it was hard to relish in the brilliant taste of the food. Additionally, and what led me to leave this review, was the old trick in the book they pulled on us and we should have been careful. As soon as we sat down we were asked if we wanted still or sparkling water. We should have said tap water but I think just assumed that still water would be tap. As this was something we didnt order, i didnt really expect them to add it to the bill. But we were charged £4.50 for that bottle. Coke was also £3.50 for a smaller than 500ml bottle. All in all great food. But pricey.

Not feasible for groups as there is a requirement of 1 main per person( in minute letters on the menu) which in an Indian restaurant translates to 1 curry per person (we were a bunch of girls) so it’s not possible for us to eat so much at one sitting. Not including the breads or rice. Along with that there are not much vegetarian curries (just 2) so it was not a great experience. We went for a birthday celebration and they didn’t allow us to cut the cake and asked for 40 pounds if they do. Needless to say,we left without ordering.

The food was good, specially the paneer dishes. But the rating of 1 star is due to how unwelcoming the staff were. I booked a table for 7 mentioning that 4 adults and 3 children along with their age. Also asked for a table with pram space as the babies might sleep and want to be in their pram. From the moment we arrived they did not seem happy to see a pushchair get inside. They kept asking if more adults are joining and were disappointed that they gave us a bigger space where at least two babies were not going to eat. (Hence goes there 50 GBP PP rule). If the restaurant had issues with babies visiting they should have mentioned during reservations. Would have saved both the trouble. Any ways the food and service was good but the above made the experience for us bad.

In this place you have restrictions on what you can order, like you must order one main per person regardless of how much you’re spending on other stuff. If you ask they may “””allow””” you to avoid this rule. It’s crazy that even having a menu you can’t choose freely from it, if you want people to spend more change your menu structure instead of forcing people to buy stuff. The food itself was pretty normal, nothing too crazy. Probably you can get better for less money.

One sometimes relies on nostalgia against their better judgment. After an 8-year long hiatus, we eagerly anticipated our return to Tamarind Kitchen. We leafed through the menu, and ordered the chicken chops, lamb kebab, and kerala prawn curry. As we awaited the food, we marveled at the ornate interior decor, and the 5 quid sides of rice and raitha that funded it. The grilled items arrived: 3 small bits of chicken, 3 cylindrical lamb kebab pieces. The portions were tiny, but were at least tasty. They were down the hatch in 10 bites, and our wallets were 35 quid lighter. We marveled at the interior decor again as we awaited the entree. The Kerala prawn curry arrived. Imagine a chicken tikka masala at a standard high street lunch buffet. Now swap the chicken for prawn. This was apparently the vision this restaurant had in mind for this dish: an overly spicy, watery tomato soup, in a disconcerting shade of red, with rubbery prawn bits. Completely lost were the subtle notes of coconut and Malabar spices advertised on the menu. Even the rice was bland and uninspired. The rice! Our comments to the staff on the quality of the food were met with bemusement and a shrug of the shoulders. Typically, when one spends north of 75 quid on a meal, a full belly is the least one would expect. But there we were, back on the street, on the hunt for a Thai restaurant in Soho.

Our delightful waiter, Dhirender, was super efficient, and an expert on the food choices, flavours, portion sizes for sharing, and accompaniments. We shared 2 plates for starters - grilled lamb cutlets and sticky pork ribs. So flavoursome and perfect combo. Then shared the Hyderabadi lamb shank, which came sliced up for sharing, and chicken korma and Old Delhi butter chicken, with steamed rice and garlic naans. It was truly delicious and tasted freshly prepared, not reheated. Rice was fluffy, not sticky, and naan, bubbled, crisp and perfect! Full of flavour and tender meat, we could not finish the 3 plates, and rolled out of there with full bellies. Service was fantastic, and wine list extensive options. Will definitely return. It is common knowledge that the UK offers some of the BEST Indian cuisine outside of the Indian Subcontinent. On an unseasonably cold and wet London evening, the thought of having some spicy, hot, hearty Indian food to battle the elements seems like a most appealing and perfect idea. Tamarind Kitchen, the sister of the Michelin 1* Tamarind, is located inside of Soho and just a short leisurely walk from our hotel, hence our pick for dinner venue. Totally famished, the result of missing lunch. For tonight’s dinner, we went flat out and ordered the following: - Crispy Sprouting Broccoli - Dungar Chicken Chops ( Tandoori Thigh Tikka ) - Tandoori char-grilled Lamb Chops - Badami Murgh Korma ( Delicate sauce of Almond, Green Cardamom, Saffron ) - Calcutta Bhuna Gosht - Kerala Prawn Curry ( Kadampuli, Coconut, Shallots, Malarbar spices ) - Cucumber Kaita - Lemon Rice - Chili Garlic Naan - Mango Lassi Most of the dishes’ flavor profiles were so exotic and delicious, they were simply heads and shoulders above the many uninspired and mediocre offerings we are accustomed to in Toronto. The mouth-watering coating and seasoning of the Tandooris in particular was simply amazing ... a totally new and wonderful taste experience for some of us.

The only good thing about this restaurant was it’s interior and drinks. Food was average very bland taste therefore didn’t enjoy. Staff interaction and service was alright, the waiter insisted to order more curry side dish as one wasn’t enough. However one side curry dish is good enough to share between two! Listen to yourself and not the staff as they will want you to always order more. Recommend having a prior booking or else you’ll eat your dinner at the bar

Pretty place in an elegant Indian atmosphere. The food is a little expensive but really delicious! Be careful, very spicy but tasty dishes. Very attentive service.

Best Indian food we have ever had! Traveling from the US and we couldn't be more thrilled to have picked this place as a dinner option. If only we had something like this place back home. I highly recommend it!

I am Indian and me and my family ate at Tamarind last night for my mum’s 70th bday and would rate it 10/10. The service was excellent - thanks to Mahanoor who was incredibly attentive, friendly and helpful; she made our experience extra special. The restaurant is not too loud, it is warm and welcoming with low lighting and nice decor, booth tables, very comfortable. The food was delicious and would highly recommend the Avocado belphuri, Kerela prawn curry , Tandoori lamb seekh kebab, Dungar chicken chops, Old delhi Butter chicken curry, Awadhi chicken biryani (my favourite) that was plenty of food to share between 5 people with Roti & chutneys. Drinks were great too.

At Soho Tamarind versus Dishoom : anyone who wants to enjoy Indian food with great service great staff must avoid tamarind and head to dishoom . We had a horrible experience with booking amount of ten pounds at beginning , staff which started dictating minimum one main dish per person and for the two of us who had such a marvellous experience at dishoom it was such a shocker as we were contemplating a longer dinner and had barely started ordering when the lady started dictating the rule book . Our advise would be to be aware of their rules otherwise avoid and step out soho had great places and the pizzeria we walked over to was warm fun energetic !

Had a bad experience recently with this hotel and found the manager (one who was wearing blazer and handing over menu after entering the hotel) to be very rude. When I asked for a custom dish instead of politely denying it, his remark was disrespectful. Will never visit this hotel again.

Nice ambience, service and tasty food. Took 3 course meal deal at ~ 30 pp which came with kachori, dosa, 4 curries, one naan and small bowl of rice and a choice of dessert, I went for Mango Kulfi. Pleasant experience. Would recommend. Had a booking but wasn’t required as place was quite empty on a Sunday afternoon.

Excellent !!! Nous avions envie de découvrir la cuisine indienne et nous sommes contents de nous être arrêtés à ce restaurant. Le service était très agréable et la qualité des repas juste exceptionnel. Des saveurs qui ont régalé nos papilles je vous le conseille.

Food nice but terribly overpriced for what it was. Service was so fast it was annoying and condescending. Felt like a usurper in a place built for posh people. Not for me

We visited this place a few months ago and were appalled by our experience! The server was so rude ! Firstly he told us we’d have to make a minimum order of atleast three dishes to even place one so we over ordered inspite of not being very hungry ! When the food arrived we spotted a hair in the food and he very rudely denied that this didnot come from his kitchen and later on begrudgingly offered to replace the dish! He was very conceited and spoke to us quite disrespectfully! We left the place without eating and even paid for our food! When we left the place and said we’d write a review here about our unpleasant experience he stated that we can’t mess with him because this is not India - this was quite a racist comment and I’ve decided to never set foot in this place again. Horrible. Appalling and absolutely disgraceful

I don't want to give bad reviews to this restaurant but i went yesterday 13/11/2025 I ordered 4 chicken tikka roll and 1 shami kebaab roll but they gave me 3 chicken tikka roll and 2 shami kebaab roll and moreover in chicken tikka roll packet they specified it (they wrote) that there is chicken tikka roll inside but I received from that packet 1 chicken roll and 1 shami kebaab roll that was really unexpected..they should deliver the order carefully

Everything was great. We had pre-theatre menu with 2 courses, added couple of sides, papadoms and 3 beers. Total bill for 2 people was around 140 pounds incl. service charge

Went to the Cinnamon Club on Saturday for a big special Birthday, and we had a wonderful experience. We were well looked after and I would highly recommend the tasting menu. We will be returning! Big thank you to all the team!
