We visited this place a few months ago and were appalled by our experience! The server was so rude ! Firstly he told us we’d have to make a minimum order of atleast three dishes to even place one so we over ordered inspite of not being very hungry ! When the food arrived we spotted a hair in the food and he very rudely denied that this didnot come from his kitchen and later on begrudgingly offered to replace the dish! He was very conceited and spoke to us quite disrespectfully! We left the place without eating and even paid for our food! When we left the place and said we’d write a review here about our unpleasant experience he stated that we can’t mess with him because this is not India - this was quite a racist comment and I’ve decided to never set foot in this place again. Horrible. Appalling and absolutely disgraceful

This Indian restaurant captivated my taste buds with an exquisite blend of flavours. The aromatic spices infused each dish, creating a culinary journey through India. From the Jaipuri lamb boti , lamb Shekh kebab, Dungar chicken chops to the perfectly cooked Hyderabadi lamb shank curry, every bite was a celebration of authentic Indian cuisine. A must-visit for any food enthusiast. Cocktails and desserts were amazing too. Cons: Price was little high for the quantity served for starter

It's a nice restaurant with overpriced food. The best thing for me was the lamb kebabs they had a great flavor and taste to it. Next time if I was there I would order the kebabs and the bhel puri. The other dishes we had got were okay at the most. The lamb chops were lacking flavor and spice and were very fatty. The so-called King of Street Food, wheat poori filled with goodies & chutneys was bang average, and I would recommend you spending £16 on that. The avocado bhel puri (savory beach snack of puffed rice, tangy chutney combined with avocado) was nice and something different and was something I'd ordered again. The butter chicken curry was very average and didn't really hit the spot. The lamb Curry (bhuna gosht) was decent but again didn't really hit the spot. Overall the service was good and the restaurant is lovely but I don't go for the service and atmosphere I go for the food and therefore spending £360 for 4 people was a total rip off especially for the quality of food.

A nice and spicy dinner on the 3rd of January. We were seated a nice corner table at ground floor. Very courteous and efficient service all along, which deserves 5 stars. So why not 5 stars overall? Because while food was superbly cooked (dungan chicken chops, jaipuri lamb boti both super tender, mellow and juicy…), it was really too spicy. To a point where it kills the underneath savours. Which is a real pity. Even my wife who is a huge fan of spicy food was struggling. The plum chicken do piyaza, the kaali dal and to a lesser extent, the Hiderabadi lamb shank were accompanied with a fiery sauce / backdrop. The first one had that mention on the menu and we actually asked the question to the waiter. He said that was midlt spicy, a bit above the butter chicken. So that would be the main negative point of the dinner as they clearly know how to cook and season food. No doubt. But food has to be adapted to European palates. Finally, this is definitely not a cheap place (£200+ for a dinner for 2 with 2 small grilled plates, 2 main courses, 2 rices, 1 cheese naan, 1 naan, 1 bottle of pinot noir, 2 raitas and 1 bottle of still water). But that’s Soho London and for those who can stomach the heavy spice, it’s top food.

Food was good but service was questionable. We went here to celebrate a milestone birthday and as we came in we were reminded we only had the table until 7. (We came in at 5.15pm, we were running 15 mins behind and whilst I don’t mind a time limit, I do mind if the restaurant is not even half full by the time we leave). We opted for a few starters and 2 x of the veg set menu things and 2 x of the meat set menu. The food was good but what happened next really has left a bad taste in my mouth. There were a few walk-in customers, some were told there was a minimum spend requirement and others were not. What was odd was that it was the south Asian families who were told about a minimum spend, but if you were Caucasian, you were not. I found this really upsetting and shocking, I cannot believe a south Asian restaurant would do that to south Asian people… or anyone really. We paid the bill and left… I found the £40 service charge far too much considering we had to ask for bottled water several times - but my guests did not feel comfortable complaining seeing how other south Asian people were treated (and being south Asian ourselves). Really disappointing, I hope management review this and respond.

Very delicious modern Indian, and the curries were full of flavour. A bit expensive for the chicken chops and lamb chops, as you can probably get something similar in Dishoom for a fairer price. The curries also leaned on the more expensive price but the flavours in it made up for it. The spinach curry was on the saltier side for my liking, nevertheless… still finished it! I would return.

Great food - very well prepared. The decor of the restaurant was sumptuous, clearly lots of care had gone into the design. However, the service was officious, to say the least. We were a party of four and all felt rushed throughout. We arrived 3 minutes late and were told off for doing so, not a great introduction - especially as we had just spoken to them on the phone and informed them we were just a couple of blocks away. Dishes were being cleared before they were finished; presumably to ensure we were finished for the next sitting. The maitre d’ returned to the table often - I am sure he thought he was being attentive but it did feel like we were being inspected rather than attended to. When we left it was with hardly any acknowledgement from the staff - no goodbye or thanks was said. Quite a contrast to the service we had received at ‘Dishoom’ the day before!

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Tamarind Kitchen during a stroll to China Town, and it turned out to be a delightful discovery. This Indian restaurant exudes class and beauty; every aspect, from the elegant design to the thoughtful menu and impeccable service, was truly top-notch. Our culinary adventure included the Raj Kachori, a highly recommended choice that dazzled with its diverse flavors and delightful toppings. The Grilled Seabass impressed with a perfectly portioned, expertly cooked dish that avoided over-seasoning. The Dunbar Chicken Chops showcased flawlessly seasoned, fall-off-the-bone meat. The Kerala Prawn Curry brought a delightful hint of spice, accompanied by an incredible sauce. The Lassooi Palak, Tandoori Roti, and steamed rice served as ideal accompaniments, perfectly portioned for a satisfying meal for two. They also have amazing cocktails, and of course assorted teas. However, the star of the evening was undoubtedly the Turmeric Crème Brûlée – an absolute must-try and easily my top crème brûlée experience to date. Tamarind Kitchen left us thoroughly impressed, and without a doubt, we plan to return for another exceptional dining experience.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Tamarind Kitchen, a restaurant located near the beautiful Oxford Street, just a short 7-minute walk from the Oxford Street Station. The ambience of the restaurant is truly inviting and sets the stage for a memorable dining experience. The service at Tamarind Kitchen is impeccable, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels taken care of. However, it is worth noting that the prices at this establishment are on the higher side. While the quality of the food justifies the cost, it may not be the ideal option for those on a tight budget. Speaking of the food, it was nothing short of brilliant. The dishes were not only authentic but also managed to capture the true essence and flavors of India. It is evident that the chefs at Tamarind Kitchen have a deep understanding of Indian cuisine and are dedicated to providing their guests with an exceptional culinary experience. However, I must deduct one star from my review due to a small hiccup in the form of an erroneous wine order on our bill. We were served a bottle of wine that we had not ordered. Thankfully, upon bringing this to the attention of the restaurant staff, they promptly rectified the mistake and adjusted the bill accordingly. It is worth mentioning that had we not checked the bill, we would have unknowingly paid for something we did not order. While the restaurant was quick to acknowledge the mistake and make it right, it is still a factor that should be considered. Despite this minor issue, I would still highly recommend visiting Tamarind Kitchen if you are looking for a first-class dining experience. The combination of the beautiful ambience, impeccable service, and brilliant and authentic Indian cuisine make it a standout restaurant in the area.

Never again going to that place! Being a hijabi, I was treated very, very differently. I was there with my family! They served us the starters. But there was no plate on the table. When my husband mentioned, they said they forgot to give us the plate first. The plate they then got us was cold. We didn't even finish our starters. They just brought and kept the main course on our table. They didn't even ask us if we were ready for the main course. They didn't even replace the starter plate, and we ate the main course on the same plate. In a restaurant like Tamarind, where we pay a hefty price for service more than food, these were the best service they can give. And yes, I said hijabi earlier because I saw the service other people were getting was up to the standard. My husband even asked them if other people were paying extra to get that service. When my husband told the manager about everything, the manager just laughed it off! We were a joke to them! We couldn't finish our food, because of the unethical service given to us, so we asked them for a takeaway. Further coming at home, we realised the food they gave us was a smaller portion of what we left. Never ever...ever coming to the restaurant again! Please let me know what action is going to be taken for this. If asked, I am happy to share my receipt copy of my visit.

Avoid the tasting menu and “the crescent” option, they are extremely poor value. Both the tasing menu and “the crescent” are severed in four very small dishes. Our complaint was that they charge £32 per person for this yet a main (which is about 4 times larger) and side dish (also larger) is basically the same price (£25-28 for the main and £8 for the side) and would have been the same amount of food for half the price. They also sell wine at extreme mark-ups, the £70 bottle of wine we had retails for £20. Be careful what you order or perhaps go somewhere that is better value.

Soho is no longer the seedy area it once was, but the streets are noisy and traffic filled, and many eating places seem to take the hubbub inside. This, on the other hand, was a haven. Behind a narrow shop front this large and busy restaurant exudes peace with hushed voices and only the occasional clatter of crockery. The decor is warm. The staff are welcoming. The menu is short but imaginative, with good vegetarian choices. Portions are generous. We had two courses on our way to a show. The vegetable dumplings in a creamy sauce were delightful. Staff was so rude and egoistic and totally ruined our dinner, they start wiping the table before we could finish our meals. Do not have any knowledge on hospitality. Worst staff, food was neither worth nor good at all. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE.

Service was terrible, the waiters kept trying to force us to get more expensive things and made me change my initial order even though I didn’t want to. A misunderstanding led them to bring me something I hadn’t wanted and I received a really negative reaction from the staff as a result, not to mention we waited for our food to arrive for at least 40 minutes. Food was ok but not worth ~£30 for a curry and tap water. The fire alarm also set off near the end of the night which was definitely a mood killer.

The restaurant is lovely. The ambience is perfect. Lots of staff available to assist. The menu is great as it does not have the typical Indian restaurant dishes you would see in a standard restaurant. It has a smaller selection of authentic and very tasty dishes. The food was delicious. Highly recommended. My 14 year old daughter said that it was the best Indian food she has ever eaten, which is high praise indeed.

Tamarind Kitchen takes Indian cuisine to another level with a collection of sublime dishes. The service is excellent and friendly. This not a cheap place to dine but 100% worth it for a special occasion.

My favorite indian restaurant in London. Not to be missed. I still dream about the cheese and garlic Naan!

Great Indian Food, we had a wonderful Dinner there. Sides and main dishes were equally well done - we Wenz for Butter Chicken, lamb and Chicken Tikki with a variety of rice and Naan. Its on the pricey side, but i d say its worth it.

While the food is good (4/5), the servings are small and the prices are high. As a vegetarian, my favourite dishes were the crispy broccoli and the house dal. Vegan options were limited - more limited than expected - and not marked on the menu

Very fancy Indian food. I loved the lamb dish, very spicy but authentic according to my Indian friends. Garlic naan is also very delicious .

Highly recommend this place, food was insane, best meal I’ve had in a while. I’m a huge fan of dishoom but I think this place might just taken my top spot for a butter chicken curry 🙊

Lovely decor. Really nice service. But the food was not to my liking. I've eaten loads of curries but my dishes were not that good imo. They don't do normal pappodums so we had some kind of weird sea-urchin shaped things, which looked nice but were far too sweet and had mayonnaise on. I had a side-order of spinach which had been liquidised to within an inch of its life, so it had the texture of baby food (my friend had an aubergine dish which had a similar consistency). I had a lamb main dish which was quite nice but the lamb was too soft. Bread was nice. Beer not all that. So a fancy place with nice service but not worth the money, for me.

Oh my word that was tasty! We had the pre theatre menu. Very reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. Service was faultless and the restaurant itself is a perfect mixture of class and comfort. Would highly recommend

Outstanding little Indian with top quality Indian food, a beautiful and helpful hostess and lovely touches throughout. The taster menu at £50 is an absolute steal and the wine is very reasonably priced. Bring a date, bring your business partner, bring someone you want to impress. The service was faultless.

Great higher end Indian restaurant in London’s SoHo. Walked here after a play in the West End, greeted by friendly hostess and staff. Ordered a hodgepodge of starters and entrees, including Goan Prawn Curry and a couple choices from the grill/Tandoori section. All were excellent, with chutneys to compliment the flavors of the food. Only complaint was the need to order naan and rice separately rather than having it included with the entrees (this is my complaint at most Indian/Asian restaurants). Would return and I think we could order entirely new and different entrees and still be pleased.

Wonderful meal in a wonderful library. The only constructive feedback I'd give was that the pudding was a bit too heavy for after a filling curry. Ice cream or similar would have gone down better. The
