Halon was first class definitely recommend

We visited Maharaja restaurant with high expectations, given its positive reviews. The initial welcome was warm and pleasant, which gave us hope for a good dining experience. However, everything took a disappointing turn once we placed our order. We ordered the Chicken Thali, anticipating a decent taste of Indian food, if not something spectacular. Unfortunately, what we received was far from it. Both chicken gravies tasted like they were simply mixed with ready-made tomato puree—there was none of the rich, complex flavor we were hoping for. Alongside, the Thali included a single samosa that felt like it had been thawed from a supermarket freezer and an onion bhaji that tasted as if it had been fried in old oil. The mixed vegetable dish was another disappointment—frozen vegetables reheated in what seemed like tinned tomato puree. The only items we didn’t find fault with were the naan and pulao rice. The service was another issue. Our server was more interested in chatting than attending to customers. I asked for an extra naan, intending to finish my food rather than waste it, but the request was ignored until another server finally brought it. By then, it was too late. To add to this, they served us a warm bottle of Coke priced at £4, with only a few ice cubes thrown in as an afterthought. This felt more like a poorly justified extra charge than a proper drink service. Since the service was slow, and we were in a hurry to catch a train, my wife went to pay the bill while I finished up. The server, who had forgotten my naan, suddenly ran over, implying we hadn’t paid, and showed no courtesy or apology for the mix-up. Overall, this experience was disappointing and frustrating. The food lacked authenticity, the prices felt extortionate, and the service was inattentive. If you’re looking for genuine Indian food and good service, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.

Found this place online because I really wanted Indian cuisine. The server Nayem was very nice and attentive. The food was fresh and reasonably priced (compared to nyc prices). The espresso martini was NOT good but he swapped it out for white wine with no problem. Overall a good dining experience.

Me and my partner visited Maharaja of India during a date day out in London. As curry lovers, we have dined at and had many Indian takeaways and we both very much enjoyed the food here, it was very tasty! Nayem, our waiter provided a great service and was very polite and friendly. We will certainly come again during another London visit in the future no doubt.

Best place in London to experience authentic South Indian dishes. The service is prompt and there are multifarious dishes that tend to give your palate a burst of rich flavours.

I had a very disappointing experience at The Maharaja, and unfortunately, I have to give it just 1 star. The service was incredibly poor, and the food was simply not up to standard. We were served undercooked food, which was shocking considering the reputation this restaurant supposedly has. When we brought this up at the end of our meal, the staff's response was frustrating. They told us that the manager wasn't available and that nothing could be done about it. This level of customer service is unacceptable, especially when you're paying for a meal. Based on my experience, I would highly suggest avoiding this restaurant if you're looking for good food and decent service. There are much better options in Central London for a proper dining experience.

Crammed and crowded. Cant eat with your elbows bashing against your neighbour's. Most dishes of average quality except that the bland and undercooked chicken tikka and grease soaked onion bhaji in the Maharaja Special Starter were truly terrible. Worse than having a meal in a crammed economy class seat. Would not recommend.

The guy outside said it's an amazing place. However, the place is really cramped, the steward recommended a chicken dish, premium priced which was below average, the dal was okay but with no salt, so we had to add it, we had to keep asking for everything multiple times, so service in reality was quite sad. When we questioned the service charge, the steward was extremely rude and just threw the bill on the table. We would say avoid and find a better option.

On our first night in London we decided to grab a curry and take it back to our AirBnB in Soho. Found Maharaja of India on Google - as we arrived the heavens opened with torrential rain. We ordered takeaway but needed refuge and Arif was so kind - he gave us a table and complimentary poppadoms with assorted chutneys. We decided to stay for drinks too. By the time our order arrived, the rain had stopped. We chose onion bhajis, lamb pasanda, chicken tikka masala, prawn bhuna, with jasmine rice and garlic naan. Absolutely delicious - and enough for 2 people to have 2 meals (leftovers tasted even better next day). The welcome and service at Maharaja of India (especially Arif) was exceptional. Thank you.
