Excellent Indian restaurant in Cardiff

My all time favourite Indian restaurant I. central London. Must try if you are around the area. Also reasonably priced.

Roti chai is my favourite place to eat and the food is always consistently excellent. On the last trip I was really looked after by Lola who said to me that the food can be pre-ordered to arrive at the time fast opens because I'd told her I'm observing Ramadhan. Lola was on the ball, smiley and brought the food at the right on time. It was a lovely evening. Simona was also helpful when I arrived with my friend she gave us a table early because I'd said I'm tired from the fast but I'm unable to order food until later so she kindly gave us the table to sit at until it was time to order food. She was really smiley and warm. The service and understanding was very much appreciated. I'd traveled from Leicester to London for the evening and I appreciated the kindness shown. Finally we were celebrating a birthday, I hadn't even asked for a cake but desert was brought over for the birthday girl which was very thoughtful.

Really good food. Rare to find authentic 7desi food. Prices for Central London's standard were decent too. Tried quite a few items on their menu like the Samosa Bun, Biryani and Chaat. Most things were amazing. Particularly, their biryani stands out. Service was decent. Come back a few times to try!

We were looking for a good Indian restaurant in the Mayfair / Marylebone area when visiting London recently, but didn’t want to go to one of the very high end ones because our kids have not had a lot of Indian food before. The reviews for Roti Chai seemed good, so we decided to give it a try opting for a table in the basement dining room. Overall, we were really pleased with our meal and the atmosphere in the restaurant; it was not stuffy at all. For starters we got the Chicken Momos dumplings and the Saffron Chicken Tikka, and everyone loved the chicken tikka especially. For entrees, we ordered the Butter Chicken, Chicken Biryani and the Saagwala Gosht, and all were quite good, especially the Saag gosht.

The best street food outside of India 🇮🇳

The atmosphere and service are good. The starters were nice including the chats, bun kebab and potatoes. The mains however were a let down. The biryani lacks flavour - it's coloured rice with chicken at best. The GT chicken looked like a butter chicken but again lacked any discernable flavour. I would visit again, but only order starters/snacks.

really poor. tried to persuade my friend to do Dishoom but he stood by this place. tikka starter was cold sent it back. paneer and butter chicken vaguely warm but consisted of thin slices of cheese/chicken. Nan bread cold and crispy, rice fantastic / only dish as you’d expect

we took downstairs seating which wasn’t too crowded. Food was average. + Chai came with excess sugar added so not so ideal. + Other taste-wise food items were slightly above average - nothing remarkably outstanding though. + we did observe attention to detail in recipe on occasions(paneer cubes toasted into gravy, chicken cooked well, garnish topped nicely etc.). We were charged a rather hefty service fee of 12.5% which is quite unusual for UK/EU - which wasn’t commensurate with our experience of service standards (being at par with usual of Indian restro in LON). To conclude, don’t disagree with service charge concept - however a) allow customers to decide % basis their experience b)don’t sneak it directly into bills by , perhaps including it as footer in the menu displayed outdoors

We went on boxing day, the restaurant was really busy. We ended up having to wait for a while which was difficult outside with a small child but Tasneem was absolutely brilliant in finding a solution despite some quite challenging and obnoxious customers. Starters were exceptional and very authentic, main dishes are good. Our guests were very happy

I just got back from a wonderful meal at Roti Chai. The service was efficient. The waiters didn't speak that much English but that made it feel even more authentic. The dishes were amazing in the street food restaurant upstairs. I went downstairs to see the a la carte area and that looked pretty special but I didn't try the food there yet so can't comment on that. We had various vegan dishes because my dining partner is vegan. We agreed that there was plenty of vegan choice on the menu with the exception of dessert. The flavours and colours were great. The presentation is just so authentic. The spiced chai tastes just like on the street in India. Amazing experience. I have been maybe 4 times before over the last few years if I happen to be in the Selfridges area. It's tucked away but bustling and the sound quality for conversation is very good even though it's busy. Love this place!

Message to chef and team Name says roti and chai so ur main forte as Indian restaurant should have been Indian style chai where u failed our expectations and ur sambar was very far from being called sambhar . Great atmosphere and one of the best biryani you could ever eat in London. Located near oxford street in London and close to Selfridges. Other dishes good too and worth trying, but mainly when we ever in London we have to visit this restaurant and get the biryani.

My favourite place to have special occasion dinner. It was my boyfriend’s birthday and he loved it. Dined here many times and staff never disappoints.

Our experience at Roti Chai was amazing. The receptionist was very kind and gave us a nice table, service was helpful and knowledgeable, food was cooked to perfection and drinks were exceptional. The friendly staff gave the place a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Will definitely visit again

My experience at Roti Chai was disappointingly subpar. The negligence of the staff was evident from the moment I sat down. It took an eternity for them to even acknowledge my presence, let alone take my order. When they finally did , their lack of knowledge was glaring, they couldn’t recommend a single dish leaving me to blindly choose from a seemingly uninspiring menu.

We loved this restaurant! The food was amazing. We celebrated our daughters 18th birthday in the restaurant downstairs in December. The servers were great especially Lola. They sang Happy Birthday!

We had Masala Chai and Coffee. Both were excellent and I saw some nice Tandoori Lollipops leaving the kitchen. I'll try those next time.

Food is not that good, Overrated!

The food is made of quality ingredients, which you can appreciate both in the snacks and the main dishes, really tasty. We had dinner in the street food area, which is cool and chill, but they never mentioned in the reservation that there was the dining room option (which is the reason why we came in because we saw the butter chicken in the menu). Portions could be bigger, but prices are fair for these days.

Very delicious meal! Roti Chai didn’t disappoint AGAIN! Very friendly and young staff. I went there with my friends and we all had an amazing time . We had a few drinks at the lower level Bar while waiting for our table. Cocktails were tasty! Food was INCREDIBLE! Highly recommend !

I went to use the washroom and the guy(short hair and short height guy)told me for the customer so I offered him to buy and use it but he denied and said you have to dine in ,SO EVEN IF I WANT TO TAKE AWAY ANYTHING STILL CANT NOT USE THEIR TOILET .thye need to educate their staff .I don't think so a pregnant won't can use their toilet . I would never recommend anyone in here

I used to go to roti chai only in the street food area (ground floor) but this time I managed to go to the dine area (lower ground floor). The food was fantastic and the whole party congratulate me for the restaurant choice.

This will be the last time I will be going to Roti Chai. Over the years, the restaurant has forgotten that food needs flavour and texture. Chicken Bryani was just bland with oversoaked with curry sauce. When I asked for some fresh ginger to add some flavour and texture, to my most shocking surprise, an Indian restaurant didn't have any ginger. Bombay Bhel was soaked with tamarind sauce and couldn't taste anything else and no crunch. If you want good food with flavours, this is not the place.

Food was cold ,you oder and food served in minutes to your table , Garlic naan was cold samosa rubbish , order railway lamb curry again served cold , just over rated restaurant with worst food served .

We loved the food and 2 stars for that. This was probably one of the best Indian food we had in a long time. However, I will take 3 stars away for the rude behaviour and extremely poor service provided at the dining room. Indian food is always an experience, its not the food alone and our service managed to completely ruin it for all of us. Our plan was to try most of the menu with friends. We had one of the best butter chicken outside India, so much balanced flavours. Even the humble gobi tasted divine!! Our service did not take any order for drinks and starters together, & wasted 30 mins in the process. In the end she rushed us for last orders when we had not finished our main course. We knew this was coming. General comments, we are very busy. It will take 15 mins to get a simple wine tasting, or dessert spoon etc. We were sat waiting for everyones drink to come or a spoon. Someone spilled a cocktail, napkins where thrown at us to wipe it off. Do not want to sound entitled here but we wiped the tables and then took the plates to replace it! Our service did not step in to offer help or request if we needed any thing else. When we enquired about some ingredients in the food, we were told I dont know whats in it as I have not tasted the food, and stood there. We had to send her back to ask the chef or at the bar and find out as we had restrictions. We had to literally manage our service. The list is long, will stop whining about it.. we had good food and I wish it was just a takeaway and not sold to us as a dining experience. Its sad, despite such an amazing spread and taste(hats off to the chef). We wont be coming back to hang out at the dining room again or celebrate anything here. This is going to be just a deliveroo or takeout for me, or a place where I go and eat alone with no expectations. Sorry, your service is ruining it for you!

So gt chicken is butter chicken, chicken lollipop lacked ginger and garlic flavor, it is mostly direct fried without applying any coating. Masala chai is recommended but it is cinnamon flavored

Despite reservation of table staff was very poor in finding the name given for booking and refused that there is no booking. When found the name, they did not apologise for the mistake and blamed us for their confusion. Had to wait outside restaurant for 10 minutes. Not a word of apology. Disappointed.

Great food! Tasty, flavourful. Would come back here again for the food. Exceptional service from EDDIE the waiter however very rude member of staff at the door named Jordan. Worst customer service claiming we double booked and did not accomodate to our needs. His manager intervened to resolve the issue with us to keep us happy who was great however no restaurant should employ a guy like Jordan with such bad service. 5 stars for Eddie, -5 stars for Jordan. First time visiting with a few friends for dinner, upon arrival we gave name a d then waa show to the table, When we sat down and got he menu it didn't look like the menu we had seen online so we asked the waiter if therr was another menu she said their was and got us the menu. Had a look a d it was the one we had seen online and said can we order from this menu and got told that we cannot as this is for the dinning room downstairs. Asked if we could sit downstairs and she said she would check, came back a d said unfortunately they have no space. So I checked my confirmation email which stated we would be seated in the dining room. I showed her and then she called the manager Jordan over who I showed it to and he told me that I had double booked and that they just gave us the street food side. I showed him that I only had 1 confirmation email which he then said no you double booked and we put you as a no show for the other booking. I said surely even if I had double booked you could have asked me which one did you want as you have double booked.. he said that we don't have time to talk to the customers which I found very annoying as it would have only taken you 5 seconds longer to ask which booking I wanted. He then said that we was the ones to blame and there nothing he can do. Luckily the manager came and was very polite and got us seats straight away. This floor supervisor Jordan does not no the meaning of customer service at all!!!

Thus restaurant is a hidden gem tucked behind selfridges...usually I start my reviews by rating food but in case of this restaurant, I woukd start with Service the staff and their service is out if this world, Kudos to the team. Food is finger licking..from chicken lollipop to papri chat to daal to chicken/lamb bun.. Restaurant is quite spacious but it feels very cozy ..

Heard a lot about this place so was keen to experience the vibes. Ambience was nice with a split of street food on the ground floor and the fine dining on the lower ground floor. Prices are reasonable and a good range of options on the menu. The starters were extremely flavourful with good depth and spice. The mains were much simpler and bland….lacking spice and flavour. Service staff were very polite and prompt with food to the table and clearing. A positive experience overall, though if you are looking for options with strong flavours and spice, your options will be somewhat limited.

We hadn’t been to Roti Chai for ages, and it is still as fabulous as ever….and now they take reservations. A real bonus.

I was very excited to have Authentic Indian Chai after seeing it in the Menu. I was very disappointed that it was pre-mixed.
