We have just got home from spending 4 nights in Littlehempston. We ate at the Tally Ho every night. Absolute superb local pub. From the welcome of the Landlord and Landlady, Mike and Kelly to the delightful food choices on their menu. The chef supplies you with pure gastronomic delights. Cooked to perfection. The Chowder was the best we have ever eaten. Just one of the many delicious dishes served to us. We would definitely recommend a visit here. The warmth and ambience of your welcome is amazing and we can’t wait to visit again.

I came with a group of five other friends for dinner on Friday 6th September 2024 at the start of a conference we were all attending. We hadn't been before, but it was a brilliant experience all round - the food was lovely and beautifully presented; the staff were fantastic - very friendly and helpful - going above and beyond. When my glasses broke one of the staff crawled around the floor under the table using a mobile phone as a torch to find the little pin and then Mike took them and the pin which had come out and mended them for me. At the end of the evening, when he learned that the place where we were staying hadn't provided us with any tea / coffee making facilities, he immediately loaned us a (brand new) kettle and provided us with cups, tea and coffee for the three days that we were in the area. That was all without charge, trusting us to return them when we'd finished. Which was especially lovely as the restaurant wasn't open on a Monday when we were due to leave, so he told us just to leave the kettle etc in the garden under the gazebo. If I am ever in the area again, I will definitely be back - if I could give them 10 stars I would!

On holiday eat here 3 times which says it all. Two lunches and one dinner. All were really good. If you like liver, that is only available at lunchtime and worth having. The mussels were the best I’ve had. Advisable to book for dinner especially at end of week.

There were about a dozen of us who had gone walking and needed a meal. Some had booked in at the nearest pub but the pub said they couldn’t do a group at such short notice for fear of upsetting their regulars!!! Someone suggested the Tally Ho who made us very welcome, quickly sorted a table, menus and orders and managed to get us all our plates of food so we could enjoy eating together. And very good meals they were too. Pretty impressive, especially as we all ordered something different. The log burners made the pub particularly inviting and it is not surprising they were quite busy.

On recommendation, we visited this utterly charming pub between Christmas and New Year. You are met by a very warm atmosphere not only because of the two roaring log burners but also the friendly landlord and the numerous locals, in for an early Friday night drink or meal. If you search out this 14th century gem, you must not leave without sampling something off the enticing menu. I can highly recommend the Pork and pear cassoulet. Delicious. And there were enough other delights on offer to guarantee a return visit at the earliest opportunity. Great Devon ales on draft and a friendly resident pub dog. There is truly nothing to not like about the Tally Ho.

We went here for Xmas lunch in a group of about 20. I ordered the fish, with a bit of trepidation as it often suffers when it's a big crowd. It was in fact delicious - chunky, moist and perfectly cooked. The traditional turkey meal was also brilliant. Lovely desserts, you could certainly taste the sherry in the trifle!

Finally managed to get back here today to try the Sunday roast after visiting in the summer .Beautifully presented on lovely expensive plates, food is so much nicer when served on nice tableware . ,and I love the modern twist on the way it was presented. My only criticism would be the potatoes weren't very roasted but maybe because we ate early . Husband managed a dessert which was delicious and again presented beautifully, staff are attentive and welcoming. The place was warm and cosy and just has a real country pub feel to it .which is exactly what it is .

My husband, myself and 8 friends went here for my birthday. The place is absolutely outstanding. It was a cold night but it was really warm and cosy inside. We were greeted with a lovely welcome and shown to our table. We had precooked our meals. Our meals arrived and I must say it is the best steak I have ever had by miles. My husband said the same about his steak, you could eat each and every mouthful without chewing it and not one bit of fat on it. My friends had different meals and also enjoyed theirs. Our plates were taken away when we had finished and not sat there like some places. Staff made sure we were looked after coming over regularly to the table for drinks and the dessert menu was offered, but, my friends had got me a cake so staff brought over plates, knife and serviettes with no problem. All the staff are lovely. The place is a little gem and we will certainly be going back. My friends had been before and said it is outstanding which is why they took me there. At the end of the evening, we got talking to the owner or the manager who was a really nice gentleman. To make my evening he gave me a bottle of champagne. We were having such a great time we forgot to take photos !! I speak on behalf of myself and my friends, thank you for making our evening so wonderful.

Lovely welcoming pub. We came for lunch on Friday and once settled in the garden with a beer, looked at their fish specials menu which was offered alongside their normal one. All the dishes sounded inviting. We both had the blackened trout fillet served with a prawn risotto, crispy kale and onion, which was absolutely delicious and enjoyed with a glass of Picpoul. They offer a good selection of beers, wine by the glass and service is friendly and efficient. We wanted to stay for cheese and another glass of wine but rain was due and we had walked from Totnes. The game pie was packed full of meat and served with sweet potato mash and the lamb and apricot tagine was delicious. It was all reasonably priced relative to the food on offer - highly recommended.

We visited here on a Sunday lunchtime. We had booked a table and found the pub to be warm and charming. The staff were friendly and helpful and the roast meal delicious. There was plenty of food and it was hot and tasty. The puddings were old school (which we loved) and yummy. We’d love to return one day. Thoroughly recommend this little, tucked away pub on Dartmoor.

Both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our roast beef. It was tender and flavoursome and the vegetables were just right. It was served on very hot plates, so kept warm throughout. Generous portions and plenty of gravy. All in all good value at £13 pp. So far, it’s our favourite pub for Sunday lunch in our locality.

Was taken to this community owned pub by my aunt who lives locally. It has a lovely traditional pub ambiance and great staff. I had the steak. Really nice to have the option of a small or larger size and it was cooked perfectly for me.

Went with my husband for our anniversary. I had already talked myself into one of their delicious burgers, but I noticed they now have a new seasonal menu. I chose a vegetable and goats cheese lasagne - minus pasta - and I didn’t miss the pasta, and I adore pasta! My husband had a 10 oz steak with bourginion sauce, which was much enjoyed. All in all, a lovely meal. There were enough people there to give a pleasant atmosphere, and they’d lit the wood burner . Very good service.

We haven't visited here for a while as our last visit was very disappointing, but we have been hearing that since the new people took over, things had improved greatly, so we dicided to pop in for a sneaky lunch for our wedding anniversary.

British pubs are in crisis, the poor old Tally Ho has suffered its fair share of ups and downs as well with its closure and rebirth. On occasion its rebirth wasn't much better than before, but at last it seems to have a landlord and landlady who know what hospitality, good beer and good food are. There's always a convivial atmosphere and the other day I had a light lunch with mate which was excellent!

Stayed here for one night lovely little pub rooms very nice and cosy unfortunately couldn’t watch tv as there wasn’t a remote and couldn’t use the shower as the button was missing of it which definitely would of been noticed on cleaning … the carpet in stairs were quite dirty and the people I didn’t find very welcoming sadly

Christmas lunch for 12 of us. Pre ordered from a balanced and varied seasonal menu that included fish and vegetarian options. Excellent value and we were very well looked after. Exceptional selection of well cooked Vegetables, recipe for the red cabbage please . Some of us were disappointed that we didn't have room for a desert ! This is a family owned proper pub with helpful competent staff. Parking right opposite but payment by card challenged some of us oldies.

Limited opening times, No food so asked out of curtesy if grandson could eat a snack. Was told no but to eat outside in the garden which had a closed sign on the gate, so had eat in the smoking area. Didn't feel particularly welcome. No alternative snack was offered. Wasn't very accommodating, we were staying local and would have returned for a meal but they said closed Monday and Tuesday and we would need to book if wanted to return. I would advise anyone to give this pub a a miss as there are much better pubs in the area
