Regrettably my review is on the arrival experience. There were tables but they were not cleared from previous diners. So consequently there was nowhere for us to sit. Not good enough really.

Miserable staff . Cold breakfast .plus wrong change .

Was very pleasantly surprised by how good this spoons was. The venue is lovely, the food was great, and very well presented. The service was really good as well, even on the night when we had to hunt for a table as it was so busy. Ended up eating in this venue for all our meals on our weekend stay.

Bar staff are useless,they don't know who's next to be served, you can stand there for 15 minutes and somebody will walk over and get served before you as staff ask who's next rather than know,they need training and a better system, use the pub regularly and the service seems to be getting worse, needs to be sorted, as it's so frustrating and its a simple fix .

Me and my fiancee came here to painghton for a nice celebratory weekend and spent most our time together in this hostelry and was hoping to have a lovely time in here until we was unfortunately involved in someone else's problems for no fault of our own at bar and just minding our business like anyone else does and we was told that we wouldn't be served in here again and we tried to explain that we wasn't involved, then the door men became very aggressive towards us and asked us to leave the premises . I will never recommend this place to anyone else unless you want to be treated unfairly and made to feel so upset because of doing nothing wrong without trying to explain yourself . Shame on wetherspoons, sort your staff out please.

Lovely, good food and drink variety, decent atmosphere and service was quick even when busy

Lovely spoons. Called in a couple of times through our holiday. Pizza was lovely. As were the sirloin steaks. Tables were cleared promptly and staff friendly

The venue it's nice and clean. Staff friendly and helpful, the service is good. You don't have to wait long for your orders, the food is tasty. It is close to the train station and close to the seafront and pier. Definitely recommend and will come back next time. Thank you. Regards, Andrea.

Came for breakfast after a stay in Paignton with family and friends. Such a lovely atmosphere, amazing staff, friendly and helpful. Food arrived swiftly and absolutely delicious....even my 2 year old granddaughter finished hers! A big thank you to all the staff and Danielle who was extremely helpful xxx

Very nice atmosphere, cheap food and drinks.

One of the nicer Spoons we have been in. It was clean, the food was good (they can make decent porridge which is a wetherspoons miracle!), the server was lovely and the drinks were hot. Never been to this Spoons before but will definitely go back again.

Nice place but usually understaffed

Excellent service, Lovely & clean facilities. Came on a Tuesday and had the benefit of discounted steak. Food was okay, but considering the price we would recommend.

Had a meal with my partner. The food was very good and the table service was very good and friendly.

The pub itself was not welcoming. On entering from the high street there was a man sitting by the doorway who had urinated over himself and over the floor underneath him. The smell was horrendous. No one removed him from the building while we were there. When we tried to use the coffee machines all four of them had ran out of hot chocolate. Three had ran out of milk and it was dirty around all of the machines. After asking at the bar for them to be refilled the male bar tender was abrupt and I was told that he'd do them when he had time. He then continued to waste time standing at the bar doing nothing for a good time afterwards. Another member of staff eventually filled them up. The food looked good and the kitchen serving staff seemed friendly and efficient. It's a pity it was such a bad experience as we often use wetherspoons and have been more than happy with the other pubs. Recently the Brixham and torquay ones were fantastic in comparison.

Reasonable prices food but badly prepared. Loaded chips were cold and soggy, chicken wings were hot but dripping with oil and the pizza was undercooked. Slow down on getting the food out quickly and focus on the quality of the final product. Very disappointing and not worth the money.

A lively place full of mature people enjoying chatting, drinks and food. The food isn't anything special in my eyes but a nice place to drink and talk

Fabulous service from Carol, very attentive and made sure all the, what I can assume are locals were ok! We had an elderly gentleman sat adjacent to us and she checked he was feeling ok and asked if he needed anything! She wished everyone a happy Valentine’s Day and was the most active and present member of staff!! Members of staff like this are priceless and should be treasured. If only every Wetherspoons had a Carol!!!!!

The usual spoons and easier to get a table because of its size.

In fairness it's a bit more than OK. The problem is it's still hit and miss. Long queues at the bar sometimes, other times served straight away. Sometimes like crazy mad, other times good and relaxed. I won't bad mouth this place, because despite the occasional problem, it's still a good place to go. Comfortable and friendly. Good value Wetherspoon. Recently been enlarged, now more room as knocked through to the premises nextdoor.. Bigger, sadly not better.

Recently refurbished, my go to place when I'm in the area. Really affordable and great service, a comfortable place to spend the afternoon/evening with such a variety of great drinks!

Egg was over cooked but other than that was nice and served hot. Staff not hugely accommodating but it was busy

Pleasant pub in Paignton. Was very busy on Saturday night but much quieter on Sunday and Monday.

I love a Wetherspoons as I know just how great they are for value and the food overall is not bad at all. Having gone down to see a friend of mine who lives down there, I suggested we have a spot of lunch after he met me at the station and my train from London. Whilst the staff cannot be faulted, the food sadly was not up to par with other Wetherspoon’s. My friend had a burger, which was overcooked and shrivelled up. My ham, eggs and chips were acceptable, but not as good as I’ve eaten at other Wetherspoon’s. This is sadly one place that won’t get a return visit.

The improvements they have done on the inside are very welcoming, but half of the staff don't greet you well and seem very miserable and stressed.

Can sometimes be a bit crowded, but value for money.

SOLD OUT OF CHEESE AND ONION CRISPS....WHAT. Nice folks here...

Good place for the family and friends to have a good meal and drinks

Came for lunch with my wife and brother. Queued at the bar where only 2 staff serving. When my turn came the barmaid walked away. Eventually returned and told me in an offhand way to “come back in 10 minutes as everything was turned off in the kitchen”. Wouldn’t take the order so could not get drinks as of course the drinks are included in the meal deal. We had to go elsewhere. Worst experience ever in a Weatherspoons.

Superb Wetherspoons, great atmosphere, food always cooked well and lovely staff. Rebuilding work and making the pub bigger has worked well.

Gets quite busy in the summer months. The food and drinks are cheap and average quality. Since refurb seems they are overstretched with regular large queues and difficulties finding a clean table.

Popped in for a large breakfast with Black Pudding on the way back home after holiday in Paignton and Devon. Delicious and served by nice lady and very attentive chap who served the breakfast. Will pop back again!

Awful Steak to spicy to eat when complained to staff, got the attitude that's how it comes. No manager working even though a Saturday night. Would avoid at all costs in future

Always a decent pint here when I'm down in Torbay, however I wish you would put jail ale back on

First time of being in the place since the upgrade. An amazing place and great Vale, decent food and deals as well.

Lovely place, very busy and great vibe! Prices excellent. But whoever is cooking the curry, uses way too many spices. I ordered a vindaloo, my partner ordered the tikka masala. Both were almost inedible. Way too many chillies and hot curry spices. I'm one for very hot food, and ordered vindaloo many times, but this was over the top. No flavour, just a mouth on fire. Would definitely go back for the atmosphere and service, and other food which is usually good, but won't order the curry again between us.

Amazing value 6 drinks under 25 pounds

Anyone who knows the JD Wetherspoon pubs knows what to expect. And you won't be disappointed here. The ambience is right, there is almost always a seat and the quality of the food is good. In addition, there is typical and friendly service. That’s how pub is fun!

A great place to eat and drink for a standard night but if it is an occasion that needs a higher standard then better book a more upper class place

Ridiculous, have to wait for a cup to be brought to your table to then stand up and go get your drink, refused to give cup when asked at bar. Didn't seem cooperative and not a great attitude

I'm a late discoverer of wetherspoons. Pity as it offers such great value, choice and convenience. What also impressed was the attentive staff who were quick to help with a signal problem I had with their handy app.

Very friendly manager and cleaning staff. Clean tables. Quiet and warm Nice breakfast with lots of tea. A good start to my day.

Came in here last Tuesday for a couple of pints on a mini crawl.. Can't complain.. A decent wetherspoons.. Cheap pints.. A nice warm place.. What more can you ask for...

Staff were great but the food was ifi.

18/11/24. We came in our honeymoon the first evening to start with was fine, my husband was then given £2.00 missing change (apparently.) he was new member of staff. Tills tell you the change if given cash. We came in next night and ordered meal, steak was not cooked to order, my meal mixed grill, steak and lamb was salty and was not edible we ate because we were hungry. Nobody came to ask if meal was ok, other people we asked had same experience. Manager rude and abusive and was dressed like he did not care how he looked. Our one at home is so much better. Ours is in Bideford.

Just a snack but good staff amazing

You order your food and drinks at the table and your drinks come first then your food. Always hot can't fault it.

Since the renovation this place is simply great....spoons are hit n miss but this is hit.

Average wetherspoons, not amazing but not bad either

Your typical Wetherspoons pub/menu but this newly refurbished one makes everything seem ‘fresher’. Indoor and outdoor seating front and back - the back overlooking a large green. Close to the sea front and Pier.

Waitress DEBBIE absolutely well mannerd and polite lady credit to the company will definitely come again from Plymouth.

Their ramen noodles bowl is actually spaghetti noodles which is not stated on the menu which caused my girlfriend to throw up and then after we offered to clean it up for them and them saying no it’s fine, one of the staff scoffed at us and said “now we have to clean that up” rudely.

Busy and multi level 'Spoons which has a good breakfast trade of tourists and builders. Points away for all the coffee machines being in one place, especially as only 1 of the 4 was working during our visit, so the queue was enormous. That said a young crew were busy delivering both food and drinks. I know that this was refurbed earlier in 2024 but it still has the look of an older type of 'Spoons, with wood panels and nooks.

Since last year's refubishment and small extension, the food and the service were both very good, bar service via JDW app was fantastic. Something about the atmosphere on a Saturday evening didn't feel right, but on Friday it was fine? BTW Managment need to check the toilets as the gents were disgusting, and the idiot that redesigned them should be shot at dawn. Narrow Privacy Walls would be great for a child!

Huge place with people sitting in there for hours slowly supping their pints. We were asked not to play games and I’m leaving. Someone tried to start a fight with us. There is cheap though.

It's hard to find a place to eat after evening theatre. Wetherspoon ticks the box. There's nothing wrong with a Wetherspoon and it is what it is. You get what you pay for. Excellent value and range of real ales in this freehouse, often featuring in the Good Beer Guide. TIM Martin, please consider taking on the Torquay Pavilion. You did it in Ramsgate for the 11000 square foot Royal Pavilion. Would Torquay then become the biggest Wetherspoon and equally successful? 🇬🇧🇳🇿

Had the 3 snacks for 7.49 all good, and a nice pint of guiness for lunch. Bargain and quick service considering how busy it was

Did not have food, but there were a lot of people eating and it did look appetising. Staff friendly cleared tables as soon as someone left, always about clearing glasses from tables, well done! As you do not see this everywhere good staff training 👏 please come to Wales to show how a good spoons should be run!!!

Excellent food. Although I had a problem ordering due to wanting small fish and chips other than large fish and chips. This was sorted.

Lost its atmosphere. Since refurbishment just people. With papers and endless cups of coffee. Taking up table space. For paying customers who want to eat.

Buttergate!!! Come here quite often cheap and cheerful breakfast, however, just recently they’ve had a clampdown on butter, one tiny slither for your toast instead of the usual two!!! When I asked for some more i was met with raised eyebrows and shaking heads!! come on weatherspoons there are tables full of ketchup majo vinegar etc free to use as much as you want what’s the thing with butter? It’s now hidden away and takes a lot of pleading to get an extra piece!!!!! Very disappointed.

It's a cheap place for good and drinks. However, do not like cameras inside the toilets. Yes, they may be fixed, but they are facing mirrors?!!

Had a bowl of ramen. Was huge. Didn't bring drinks over till we almost finished our food. It's wetherspoons. You get what you pay for. I know !!!

Quick service, but found hair in samosa

Only called in for a quick dry. Lovely and clean inside.

The food was okay, typical Wetherspoons food. However, when mine and my partner’s food was delivered, I noticed my fork was dirty. When our friends’ drinks were delivered, I asked the lady who delivered them if she could please get me a new fork, and she genuinely looked at me like I’d crapped up her walls. She took my fork and said absolutely nothing, then I saw her speaking to other tables further into the restaurant. My friend got up and grabbed me a fork in the end, otherwise I would’ve had to have stuck my face into my eggs benedict and hope I didn’t aspirate it.

It was raining on Sunday when we visited,so was quite busy,people escaping the weather.we had chicken,bacon wrap was OK taste but as for presentation ,I still think you a bif of garnish.we had coffee,first coffee barely warm was told to use next machine ,which was serving the coffee warm.there were couple of people serving food and cleaning tables but there only appeared to be one girl behind bar which was busy ,I was in queue a good 10 minutes. I think the atmosphere felt a bit and rushing around more to do with weather.

We always go into this pub,every time we go to Torquay,always busy but nice atmosphere, only went in for coffee's,staff always very efficient when clearing the tables.

Me and my friend's went to Paignton for a weekend and we visited the talk of the town, and was very good atmosphere,we will visit again,next year

typical Wetherspoons with all the expected strengths and weaknesses. Too small for the number of prospective customers not very good for big parties as the tables are not easily moved together. Drinks app service much quicker than Torquay where it can take 20 minutes. Toilets miles away up two flights of stairs. Review update after refurbishment. It's horrible. It's basically a warehouse. Not recommended at all. Review update number 2. Condiments are always empty staff are often scruffy and of poor quality

Usual Witherspoon pub which is nearly always busy. The staff are very helpful and friendly despite being very busy most of the time.

Food and service excellent but all was spoiled because of a table of 2 females and 1 male and young child who never stopped crying. The adults in the end took in turns taking young child out of building walking it up and down for 5mins at a time and while this was going on the adults were still able to order on their app beer and wine. There was no consideration for other people many who were diners having to put up with constant child crying like what happened today. I have been in other wetherspoons where only 2drinks were allowed per person where children were present. Why on earth was this allowed to go on for amount of time that it did??? We come out to have drink something to eat relax and enjoy and NOT to be feeling we sat in a kinder garden and just for the record I do have children but wouldn't expect others to put up with what's gone on today. Plus should you really be supplying people with alcohol that are responsible for very young babies

i recently visited this establishment in a lovely monday evening, i was arriving after a long days work and was quenching for a drink. i ordered a humble vodka and lemonade but once it arrived to my table, i was refused service as my accompanied friends could not provide identification however i am 18. furthermore i was denied the possibility of a refund and am definitely not going to return to this public house.

Another decent Spoons, although the service at the bar is probably above average here, the Pilot Gig ale was lovely too
