Would never go there again. It was very poor food, and I told chefs that they couldn't keep up with online and eating in customers. You could not taste it as it was so hot with spice. Looked like the staff had been rowing, so waiters banging down plates cups loads of people we seen complaining. Was told by a member of staff that they had been rowing not very professional

Service and food were spot on, absolutely no complaints whatsoever. I would definitely eat here again if in the area. all the food was served hot and very tasty, I had the Chicken Korai which was a bit spicier than I expected but for me this was a good thing as I like hot curry within reason.

Food was lovely. However both the naans were quite small and undercooked, they were raw in places so we couldn’t eat half of them! Other than that good

It isn't suitable for vegetarians as there are very few options to choose from. Also this is a Bangladeshi restaurant not Indian so I would suggest the owner to correct their description.

Yet another fabulous meal. We have tried a few other takeaways but none compare to theirs. Absolutely 100% delicious. Didn't have to wait too long for delivery either, so all good.

ONCE again a fantastic high quality meal, don't believe reviews from people who say it terrible or awful, the food is 5stars all the way, staff BRILLIANT, always go for my birthday in July, can't praise this restaurant enough, can't wait to revisit this brilliant place again best of the best !!!

Was the worst lndian meal I've ever had. Three of us had lamb dishes,the meat was so tough and precooked it was horrible. Why can't they cook it when ordered. The waiter's were rude and watching you all the time. They took food away before we had finished. Well overpriced for what we had.

I love this restaurant to dine in and always found the food really tasty. But lately ive noticed the chicken is always dry and too chewy. Shame. Other than that! The flavours are always great

The pub next to our premier inn couldn’t fit us in so we looked for another local place to eat and this came up. It shows mixed reviews but desperate for something to eat we gave it a go! Rang to book and was fitted in within the hour which was fab! Turned up and first impressions were that it looked a little dated and shoddy so we didn’t have high hopes at this point! Walked in however and were greeted nicely and seated, a lot of people were inside in larger groups so had a nice buzz about it. We ordered the chicken bhuna and some poppadoms and pashwari naan. Naan bread was on point, poppadoms were amazing but the bhuna was a bit tasteless we thought. Service was hit and miss as we had two people deal with us that were lovely and polite and friendly and then another which we felt literally hated working there and basically threw everything at us on the table with anger lol Anyway overall I’d give a 4/5 as food was good, booking was easy and hopefully just bad service from someone that maybe will leave very soon?

Food was good, service was attentive... the place was empty which sucked the atmosphere a bit...but can't fault the food or service.

Not worth the time nor money. Me and my family of 12 didn’t expect just lousy experience. The service was horrendous. Rude servers without any professional etiquettes. Food wasn’t up-to the mark.Ordered Chicken Kashmiri, but was presented with Chicken Korma. Ordered Lamb Biryani and was served with Chicken Biryani. When we spoke up, the server got argumentative thus causing tensed environment. We are of the opinion, never to visit this restaurant again. Not Family friendly.

This was one of the best Indians I've ever been too. The food was amazing, such depth of flavour and the service was amazing.

Really enjoyable meal with three friends and myself. Although it was busy, service was second to none, and the food was fresh and delicious; we had chicken patia and prawn korma. Would highly recommend, and will be back again soon.

Chippenham has a good choice of Indian food but this is another level. Really impressed top quality. Will be back soon

Best chicken tikka masala I have ever tried in my life!! The staff are very kind and helpful. The food is delicious and the portions are big, tasty and I can't wait to go there again.

We always enjoy the food which is very tasty and well presented. The quality of the Poppadom and naan bread does vary but this is only a constructive comment as we are otherwise very happy with the food, atmosphere and the staff over the years. Thank you.

Use to use it every Saturday but noticed the poppadoms were often overcooked giving a very burnt flavour then the hygiene rating dropped to 2, have not gone back since, sort the hygiene & I would consider returning as I live nearby.

Don’t Go There AwFUL Place this place is a rip off food is horrible no taste they don’t care about customers needs staff fights with customers food not cooked properly tasteless myself and my husband ended up being ill after eating their food….waiter young with glasses Kept on coming to our table no time to breath or decide what we want post ordering food one old guy who unfortunately don’t speak English we said if we could have another sauce as the one given is tasteless he said No I said can’t eat foot without sauce too dry he didn’t care instead he started fighting with me made us feel awful I asked for manager he said no manager here n my husband paid at no point he apologised I would never go again staff needs to learn about restaurant business and being professional.rude attitude n arrogance will never grow a business

Visited for the second time tonight and the food was outstanding. Had a delicious lamb tikka dansak. Have also had two great takeaways. Now my go to Indian Restaurant in Chippenham. Thank you.

The vindaloo and biryani were ok but everything else we tried was so sweet. The naan was sweet and the chana massala was so sweet and red, it seemed like the sauce was made from ketchup. My husband said the Korma was so sweet he could barely eat it.

Late Sunday night. Very quiet as we were ghe only ones in. Nice food but not the best in chippenham.

Friendly staff, yummie food. Fast service, impressive choice of dishes. I would appreciate more Indian beverages, soft drinks and desserts. I'm sure there's lot to chose from in India. Comfortable chairs, I love that we are not crammed like in a few other local restaurants.

Credit where credit is due, I visited this place by myself whilst out on the road for a few days, I have been here before, pre covid so I knew it was decent. I was initially put off by some of the bad reviews but I decided to try my luck and I’m glad I did, service was top notch, the food was superb too. Well worth a visit.

Well well well, don't know where to start the ordeal from. Let's start with the staff attitude. The guy at the front office - one with an absolute pathetic attitude. He thinks he is doing us a favour by serving food. Felt he has forgotten that we are paying for the same. We tried to tally the food against the order as we had to ensure that nothing was missed ( while waiting at the restaurant we heard 2 - 3 calls where food delivered had missing order), so we had to ensure nothing was missed. The gentleman quoted " I know what I am doing" and then struggled himself to tally the order. Now the food, we had done a takeaway and well we can say that same chicken across different gravies. Well, chicken balti, same chicken different gravy, chicken methi, same story. So, basically chicken Tikka as a starter gets it's foot in all gravies. Never ever seen a Rashmi kabab in the form and shape that this restaurant serves. The only edible item was plain rice and naan. We were 15 of us and had a real tough time, finishing off the food. In a nutshell, do yourselves a favour and find a better place for your meal

Ordered online for delivery and was told it would take 45mins… 1hr 20 and still waiting! Tale of spice is definitely one of the most expensive Indian takeaways in the area, and unfortunately that isn’t reflected in the quality you get! Meat was very tough, it arrived luke warm, and the onion barji’s were very powdery. Shame but I don’t think we’ll be ordering from them again as others are much cheaper and quality is nicer!

Fantastic meals. Dropped in 2nd October. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. We had the chicken garlic chili and a lamb chana. A couple of side dishes and cobra Beers.

Unfortunately food was delivered cold and when I called I just got "we'll look after you on your next order"! There won't be a next order as I'm not risking spending money for nothing! So disappointed.

Really nice place inside, roomy with pleasant decor. Staff very friendly and attentive. Poppadoms and pickles came very quickly along with drinks. Mains were served within about 20 minutes. Very nice food, my Dansak was perfect on the hot side. Starters and nan breads were generous and cooked to perfection. All mid priced and well worth what we paid for drinks included. Thoroughly recommend Tale of Spice 100%

The Very BEST of the BEST went with my wife on the 1st of July 2022 for my 70th birthday, the Staff were fantastic!!! So attentive!! The food was AWESOME!!! We have had many many Indian meals, but NONE compare to this!! Thankyou all, you made my birthday one I will never forget, Glen and Jean hall, Yeovil Somerset.

Terrible. Staff ‘meh’ attitude. Ordered drinks, had to send my Diet Coke back and change to something else as it tasted of bleach! There were 6 of us. We ordered 9 poppadoms between us - we were charged £15 for these! £15!!! We ordered starters and mains. We waited almost an hour and and half before plates were given to us. 2 of the plates had to be sent back as they were filthy dirty with dried food and finger prints all over! We asked where starters were and were then told they were coming out same time as the main! Why??? They are starters! So they removed the charge for the 2 starters from the final bill. Food finally arrived and was underwhelming. 2 out of the 6 of us ate it all. The rest of us probably left over half of it. Nothing special at all. Eventually plates were cleared and bill handed to us for £130 odd. No breakdown so we had to ask for a menu to work out the breakdown ourselves. We will never return. It was terrible from start to finish. Highly disappointing.

Please try a Tale of Spice if you want to experience an amazing menu! Food was so tasty, tender and hot. Poppadoms and pickles to start with onion bargees. So much to chose from. Balti was superb and also the tandoori mixed grill. The owner and staff went above and far beyond what we could have possibly imagined. Always have an indian on a friday after a "FEW" bevvies. The colonel as they call him & the rest of the staff are always welcoming & polite. The food is spot on & have never had a bad un. Would definitely recommend this place for either a sit in meal or takeaway 🙂👍

Great Indian, one of the best in the area.

Used to come here a lot but it now only has a 2 star hygiene rating!! Not to mention a typical curry is now £9.25 which has gone up yet again! Need to be cleaner if it’s gonna be so expensive.

The food, let’s start with the food! We choose spicy popadoms and plain with the chutney selection. (Plain were the much better ;) ) Lime pickle not from the jar and delicious, the onion option was recently fresh, though would personally we would have preferred some herbs with it. (Mint/coriander etc). The other two, standard fair. For starters we shared the sizzling tandoori (pictured) for a fair £12.95. (8/10) The ubiquitous slice of lemon in the squeeze was present to splash over, with recently cut iceberg but sadly plus 24hr old cucumber slice (an unnecessary blemish for our starter pictured)…. Mains, Kind prawn chilli masala (£15.95 and pictured) - velvet soft prawns of decent size and big quantity in a superb fresh made sauce (recommended), correctly described as hot - only starting to sweat by the middle of the dish after enjoying the flavours and then the build up of the heat came. (You won’t be eating the small green chillies in the dish unless you are a real heat fiend!). (9/10) Chicken Jaipur and chicken Bhuna (about £10 a pop) were both a solid flavoursome mid heat dish, again packed with serious volume of chicken on both dishes. The potatoes (where they could fit in with the chicken) in the Jaipur were, well, so potatoey! (8/10) The garlic naan, was decent, if standard, the pilau rice was excellent and (sadly?!!) we like chips as part of a curry and they were the KFC fries type. All super hot and no issues. The drinks neither expensive or cheap (apple juice, lager, fizzy water) were fine, though air bubbles on the inside of your pint only points towards not sufficiently cleaning them (predominately lack of salt in the washer and no regular physical cleaning of the inside of the glass). We ordered a take away for the students at home before asking for the bill, unfortunately they forgot the pilau rice, we travelled the short journey back and they corrected this without question and put in a couple of poppadoms and dips also. (Thankyou) . £130 sheets lighter, for a meat sizzler, 5 mains and sides plus 4 pints, and soft drinks was a good value exchange. Service! Eager to please, they care. A little hurried but easy and happy for them to delay. (Get off your high horse Tonto! From other reviewers). The decor. Again they are trying too hard to please, it’s a bit chintzy (If that’s a word) with tablecloth’s and layout beyond their prices, but not the quality of the food. Outside, it doesn’t look great, it’s an ex Chippenham boozer built circa 1920’s with some flags representing many countries (why?). Plenty of car parking just off the main road. It was 6pm on a Thursday with 6 tables taking advantage of a real decent offering, more when we left. Toilets clean. Could only see the kitchen from a small window, but didn’t give me comfort. It has a two star food hygiene rating which means improvement necessary. Often this score means that you can not prove (via documentation) that you are safe. My mum couldn’t do that, yet I am happy to eat! Overall, 4/5. I have spent my time giving you the reader the benefit of my time in writing this. If you have read this far, it’s fair you press ‘helpful’? Enjoy, I’m sure you will…..

Good quality food and decent service. Chicken was just a little dry, and the naan a little soggy, but would surely visit again. Plenty of parking outside too. Meal and a couple drinks came to £23 each.

Visited as a lone diner walking from the local Premier Inn (about 20 minutes away) Took the option of a biryani which was perfect, lamb and rice plus a vegetable curry, the naan was a complete excess - but very enjoyable All wash down with a couple of pints Good service, good food, recommended 👍🏻

I was recommended the restaurant/delivery. Never again. Allergic to fish. Ordered egged fried rice ended up with special fried rice extra large prawns . Ordered chicken tikka masala. Since when does that have prawns in. Eppie pen was un use tonight.

Ordered a delivery of three meals from Tale of Spice, Chippenham. Arrived hot and ahead of estimated time. The food was absolutely excellent - lots of flavour, good sized portions, and plenty of meat. Very impressive. Will definitely order from them again.

Fantastic food, we had a biryani and Lamb sag with sides. Couldn't fault anything. Great staff, wonderfull food and a great atmosphere.

Very tasty, well prepared food. The best onion badjis and meat samosas I've had in the UK to date. Badjis had a good flavour. Samosas had a nice thin crispy wrapper, similar to the way Indian Capetonians do theirs. The best! We also ordered Bombay aloo and a spinach and mushroom dish. All dishes were delicious. Staff were polite and friendly and the restaurant interior was very neat and clean.

Usually we thoroughly enjoy our food from here, the quality has always been good and an amazing amount of meat in the curries. Unfortunately we were very let down tonight. Every time we order i always request that my partners madrass be made extra hot. Tonight however my sag arrived extra hot meaning i was unable to eat it! When i called to explain they had done my order wrong i was met by an extremely rude member of staff who told me that it was my fault. Im now over a tenner out of pocket with a curry and rice that i wont eat and will never order from them again!!!!

In my humble opinion, the best Indian in Chippenham by miles. Used it since day one and I have never had a bad experience, hence my returning custom. Hafiz (apologies if I've spelt it incorrectly) and the team are always polite, courteous and can never do enough for you. We have always been greeted with a smile and sincerity from everyone connected to the ToS. Keep up the good work guys.

We ordered a takeaway for our large family on Christmas day. The food was ready on time and everything was correct. Everything was well cooked and hot when I got it home. We had ordered a selection of different curries, starters, sides and sundries and everything was delicious.

Not to busy, friendly staff, good social distancing measures.

Food was good, however I ordered my takeaway for collection at a set time and had to wait a further 30 mins for my food to be ready.

From the moment we walked in we felt unwelcome. An empty restaurant at 6pm but asked if we had a booking and when we said no there was an awkward look before the staff looked at each other then one went to 'see if one was available ', surprise surprise there was one available, quite a lot of others too actually. Then without any context offered two forms to fill in were thrown down in front of us. My friend opted to fill his details in as only one of a party need give their trace details. The staff member who was collecting the details said i would not be served if i didn't fill mine in. There was no warmth, it was very take it or leave it. The food was fine, no issues, it merited maybe 4 stars had we not been left with such a bad feeling. When we paid, my colleague asked to put an (undeserved) tip on the bill. Without any acknowledgement, smile, thanks, anything, the server just typed in the amended amount and shoved it in front of my friend. As he typed his pin in the fellow just looked downwards, no eye contact, banter, friendly words, smile, nothing. My friend asked why he wasn't talking - still no response whatsoever. Finally, my friend who by now had realised he'd given a service tip to a very rude waiter asked why he was being so rude. This was met with more silence and then he handed the receipt to my colleague and walked off. This chap took our order and definitely spoke English, so it could not be a translation error etc, just incredibly rude service. As we left there was no acknowledgement from any of the staff. I will never return.

1st visit to Tale of Spice, definitely worth a second visit. Food was tasty and plentiful. Service was good(possibly a little too attentive) and prices reasonable.

We have been to the Tale of Spice many times and had great food, However, last night’s meal was some what disappointing. They no longer serve alcohol here as they have had their licence taken away, the chicken was tough like it had been reheated from a previous meal. For three meals, two cokes and a glass of water the bill came to £57!!! It’s sad to say we won’t be in any hurry to return.

We like to support local business and made this restaurant our go to for our weekend takeaway. Our last visit the food wasn't as good but thought maybe it was busy so returned. However, so disappointed with our food this evening, my meal was swimming in oil, my husband's didn't taste as if should and our side dish had to be drained to get all of the oil out. Sorry but we will not be back!
