Shah Jahan Indian Restaurant in Wiltshire

We ordered a takeaway for my family for four people, three of us were ill the following day and the day after. I informed the Shah Jahan by email, no response. Then a phone and I was promised someone would be in touch, I am still waiting. However it’s too late to resolve this it’s bad enough selling that makes you ill but even worse when they don’t have the decency to respond to your complaint, never again!

Very disappointing meal tonight; ordered the lamb chilli gosh and the meat was so tough! Such a shame as I have had this dish before and enjoyed. I let the waiter know so hopefully he passed on to the chef.

A first class Indian. The food was superb and was well served on a quiet Tuesday evening. The menu has a great selection of dishes and we enjoyed Onion Bhaji, Sali Murgh, chicken Shahlik with Pineapple, a peshwari naan, a chapati and aloo saag. Everything was excellent and there was nothing left at the end.

A lot of fun dishes are made. Staff behavior is very good. Food is very standard

Poor service asked if they do tea replied with a stupid arrogant face “ not without eating in” like how do you know we were not planning on eating here. We visiting from north west! Appalling level of service and attitude from the baldy chap

Rude staff. Refused to offer tea (read chai) to us if we don't eat in and took great pride in saying that. The ambiance is shady which is why we didn't eat in in the first place. Worst customer service

We simply desired to have just tea and not food. But the staff rudely sent us away. No apologies were offered and their attitude was rather unpleasant.

I’m autistic and the atmosphere was very calming and not overwhelming, the staff were amazing and the food came so quick. It was great with allergies and no cross contamination with its delicious food. Definitely worth a visit!

I always get a meal from here when I stay at Salisbury District Hospital overnight every week or so. The food is always very good and they kindly deliver to my room in the grounds of the hospital. I cannot vouch for the restaurant itself but have heard positive things from the locals.. Overall I am extremely pleased with the food and service - thank you.

We tried this restaurant after seeing an advert in a marketing newspaper. As a visitor to the city we would never have discovered it otherwise. The service, the food, the setting was all fantastic! I highly recommend and would return in a heartbeat.

The best curry is Salisbury! They also have lovely service. We accidentally ordered the wrong item for delivery and they kindly redelivered the items that we mixed up. This was done in literally a matter of minutes. Great place!

Food 😁 best Chicken Pasanda EVER! Drink - asked for a small sparkling water, and double checked they understood small, but got 750ml! Also cleared some plates before everyone was finished. Bit noisy through the hole in the wall from the radio and the food orders to go! Still tipped......

We ordered a take away on Sunday evening. We used to really enjoy the food from SJ but the quality has deteriorated. The meat in the lamb bhuna was tough and the chicken tikka in the dhansak tasted undercooked and was not at all succulent. Very disappointing and most of the curry ended up in the bin. The spinach side dish, nan and rice were all fine, but an expensive take away considering the quality of the food. I did message SJ but I have had no reply. I had an excellent meal at Anokaa earlier in the week and in future I will order take always from there.

Table of six booked for 6pm. Staff friendly and attentive. Food choices very good. Decent portions. Varied selection of food ordered and from the starters to mains all dishes were fantastic. Great depth of flavours and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Would highly recommend. And to top it all very reasonably priced.

Terrible and repulsive vegetarian curry. A few chickpeas floating in a soup with a few random pieces of cabbage. Never have I seen anything like it.It was not edible and a total rip off at £5.95 as a take away, side dish, it was like bitter soup. The rest of the take away was cold, small and expensive. Never again will I ever eat here again. I was going to phone and complain, but decided to leave a review and never return, they may have offered more food which would of been out of the question. Find a different restaurant to eat, they are seriously taking the mickey.

We used to rate this Indian the best in Salisbury, we ordered food for the first time in a year we found it to be very bland with no taste very disappointed.

Food is "meh" at best. Biriyani was boring and non-memorable, side dishes were bland and watery. Where's the herbs and spices?! Also can't get over that we were charged £15 for 10 poppadoms from a packet -_-

Pickle is the specialty of the restaurant. Try Papad with Pickles which change your mood. Love that Indian style pickles.

Take away. Curry very bland. No difference between curry types. Just seemed to be a generic curry sauce.

Greeting was friendly. Very few customers at this time (1800). When we declined ordering Poppadoms, the service became very formal without the smiles. Why? Some of the food was quite tasty but only luke warm, three of the dishes were sent back to be re-heated, no apology offered. House Red Wine was very good.

Regular visitor to Salisbury and staying in accommodation at the hospital. I always call to order food for delivery and it always arrives swiftly and hot. I usually have a chicken or lamb Balti, vindaloo hot, with onion bhajis, a stuffed paratha and swap the naan for pilau rice. I wouldn’t say it’s cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for and the food is always great in my experience. I have literally just had a delivery and it was excellent, so I felt I would leave another review. Very helpful and outstanding food as always - thank you Shah Jahan 👌

Table for 13 was booked for 730, when we arrived it was as if we had not booked a table. The manager was very rude and we thought of leaving. Over half and hour later the table was provided, Theron, was like eating amongst family argument amongst the staff. Theresa, who's worked behind the bar, was they only one, who behaved as a host should. We won't return. The food was very good but didn't make up for the dinning experience.

Been a takeaway and eat in Customer for years! Sadly it's gone downhill.. currys are quite watery, especially when you have a takeaway. Our curry's arrived and they were half full and when i rang and asked why I was told that this is due to inflation.. so their prices have gone up but the portions have got smaller! Due to the size the curry was too small for my daughter so a very expensive takeaway for half the size! Will be looking elsewhere

Bought my usual takeaway. Lal murgh was watery. Chicken was sub standard. Biryani lacked flavour. Tikki masala was too sweet. You was always so good! Not this time

Just had lamb tikka and chicken dansak delivered. Not fantastic. Lamb was tough with gristle, and chicken dansak was poor with way too much cardamon. Food was luke warm, not the usual standard. I think we'll be giving the Shah a miss for a while.

We had food delivered when visiting the area and could not fault this very tasty food, unsure if it would deliver, we paid a visit during the day to ask, and was told yes definitely to a local premier inn.

Reasonable curry but I ordered a full mixed tandoori grill. The table opposite ordered the same and theirs came out sizzling. We were a table of 6 and my tandoori came out far from sizzling and was a little dry.

We had an amazing meal last evening. It was delivered as always by a polite smart covid regs carried out young man.During the last few years all through covid, we had a takeaway from this restaurant every month. It was our sanity to have these lovely meals delivered. We always have a spot on meal. I have an allergy to onion. No problem for The Shah Jahan. Thank you so much for all our brilliant meals. We also eat in the restaurant with friends, we never eat at any other Indian restaurant The food is always cooked to perfection and hot. Presentation always spot on.

Excellent service and fantastic tasty dishes! So nice we went two days running while holidaying in the area. Have returned twice every year since first visit and still absolutely fantastic Indian cuisine and service too. We went lunchtime and not very busy. Covid restrictions in place and staff implemented their personal protection wear too. Well worth a visit we haven't found a consistent Indian restraunt as good as this one¡ Awesome meals. Thanks 👍 been again 3 times this year and lunchtime today and all dishes excellent again, going back Saturday too now. Definitely the best curry quisine we have tasted and pleasant attentive service. The food tasted good and the service was good, but the next day I had terrible stomach ache and diarrhoea. My wife was not affected, so it must have been either my chicken patia or pineapple rice. Everything else was shared.

I had the hottest curry in the Indian and really enjoyed in just a shame I couldn't finish it, apparently no-one has. Staff were very friendly and decor is typical Indian. Will definitely return.

I don't know about you, but one of the joys of Indian food is being able to see the amazing colours. I ordered two vegetable side dishes - 'Bengali Style Dhal' and 'Mutor Panir' along with a roti. What arrived was a real disappointment - the 'Panir' was at best average and the 'Dahl' was, to be totally honest, bland to the point of being tasteless. The dishes on the menu are £2-£3 higher than those in the North West, which I don't mind paying, but come on guys, up your game. Judging by the reviews, the good people of Salisbury seem enamored with you, but your dishes are full of the usual suspects and not exciting at that. I've had the good fortune to travel around India on several occasions and it's a delight to experience the food on offer - be it street food, café, or restaurant. The staff and service are great, it's just a shame the menu and décor is stuck in the 90s. Let's have something more vibrant please.

Just had a chicken madras delivered. I had Half a tub of 4 bits chicken in a VERY WATERY SAUCE. l would leave the madras alone tonight guys. Very disappointing.

I've been coming to this restaurant for at least 30 years and have tried a lot of the menu. But since the new guy has taken over I've experienced him getting upset that I order the same thing? To the extent that he makes little jibes at me when I come to collect my meal!! Because of this I will no longer come into or order any food from this establishment. And i will also advise anyone not to bother ordering or eating in the restaurant.

Shah Jahan has been my go to Indian for years, Ordered a selection of veg curries for a family get together this weekend and the only vegetable included was potato…. Potato madras, potato jalfreizi etc etc - won’t be back in a hurry…

The food is delicious, my chicken is always very juicy and the sauce extremely creamy. The guys are very welcoming and helpful and even if the place is very busy, they 'll always try to accommodate you! Give it a try, you will not regret 😬

Gorgeous food as always but sadly the customer service was awful. Booked a large birthday meal (12) booked well in advance, they called on the day to confirm the booking and despite this our table was not ready. We were asked to go for a drink elsewhere and and come back and when we returned it still wasn't ready. We ate far too late. Service was sporadic and slow and once we'd paid (spending well over £500) they couldn't get us out quick enough. Spoilt birthday celebrations. Too greedy ... they take too many bookings and struggled to cope.

Very bad experience. Their cutlery including the dishes meant for serving food is not clean. They have stains from previous uses!! Taste of Food - Bland and stale. Their biriyani tasted like it was cooked at least a week back and being reheated everytime you order. Avoid unless you want to leave the place after taking few bites while paying the full price.

What a curry! Really impressed with this place, especially the pickle tray! Loads to choose from and very tasty. I have to say this is probably the only Indian I’ve ever had and not want to die the next morning.
