Taj Restaurant in Havering

Used to love this restaurant I don’t know if new people had taken over but it was awful. Never before Have I seen a fluorescent korma, masala sauce tasted like from a jar no heat or flavour usually have a mushroom phal it came with prawns which would’ve been a major problem if I had a seafood allergy the naan breads were undercooked and doughy sang aloo potato was hard and the coconut rice was claggey I’ve never been to coconut and it’s life tried and had to throw away away waste of money

Myself and my son went to have a birthday meal at 950pm and was told by a rude bold man that they was closed can not believe this there was lots of people at the tables we had not been drinking we had came from how home absolutely devastated

If you want a decent curry with generous portions this is the place to come. Have been frequenting this Curry House since I was a young boy and the food nostalgic and where I found my love for Curry. The Bengali Chefs are well skilled with a Tandoori Oven and deliver some fantastic Tandoori Dishes as well as Naans etc. In recent years the restaurant has turned to Bring Your Own Booze (BYOB) which is a shame as I do miss the bubbles from a Cobra on tap however with Tesco's across the road tinnies are more than adequate! Ordered 4 times last 2 times awful. Today didn't get all paid for stale poppadoms only 2 prawns on each king prawn puriee and also gobi was not good plain nan was stale just awful won't be ordering again ever

Slow service, poor standard of food and annoyed by the waiter asking for cash only and telling us he won’t get a tip unless we paid cash as the owner would take it. Not a pleasant experience when sitting in a large group with our children. Not a fan of restaurants where you bring your own drinks either, cheaper maybe but not the experience that I prefer with a carrier bag with drinks in under my feet..The decor is tired , the toilets had nothing to dry your hands with and most definitely will not be going back. Far better Indian restaurants in the area that I would rather give my money to

As soon as we walked into the restaurant the waiter was saying “we close at 10!”. I wouldn’t have minded but it was only just 8.30. From then on the entire meal felt as if we were getting in the way. The tables were covered in plastic as if they couldn’t be bothered to launder the table cloths, which made us feel like children at a tea party. We ordered popadoms, these were taken away before we’d finished them & when I mention this he just tipped what was left onto a side plate. The food itself was very average and very expensive (£4.60 for a vegetable side dish). Chicken was tough and basically we could wait to get out of there. Almost £40 for 2 mains, 1 rice, a roti, a side dish & 2 popadoms - with 2 soft drinks is ridiculous. We have both been using this restaurant in its various firms since the mid 80s, service and food used to be really amazing. We won’t be going back - I’d rather have beans on toast

I am sick and tired of the poor standards this restaurant has reached. Have used them for over 20 years but find them rude and dismissive with very poor customer service now. Twice I have tried to order online with them only for them to accept the order and then later cancel it. No notice or reason, just left without our dinner. No way to run a business. Much better in the area, won't waste time on them again.

I placed my order via just eat and items were missing. I called the restaurant to resolve the issue as I live within minutes of the restaurant. The person I spoke to was extremely disrespectful, raised his voice at me and accused me of not paying for my order (which I had paid for online).

I have ordered a couple different curries and biriyanis to feed my family (family of 6). The amount of food we have ordered, I was surprised how fast their delivery. The portion sizes, taste and value for money is spectacular. Very happy with their service, I will be ordering from here again.

I have been eating here regularly and during lockdown have ordered takeaway to get my fix of amazing indian dishes! Always recieve great service and food always delivered on time.

We were looking for a nice Indian place to eat out and we were super happy with this experience. The food and service was superb overall. The waiter paid attention and took account of our allergies and recommended the most delicious dishes. We will most definitely be visiting again once we are able to eat out, but for now takeaway deliveries will have to do!

Small but welcoming local indian takeaway. Can get a little busy at times, so be sure to order ahead but the food is well worth the wait. The waiters and kitchen staff will tend to your specific needs if you ask for anything that they can potentially adjust for you which is great! Great prices too.

Ordered food on a Sunday night and it was absolutely amazing. It only took about 30 minutes for the food to be ordered. Ordered 2 mains and a side and it exceeded my expectations. Food was the best indian food I have tasted in awhile and I will definitely be ordering again!

This is my fav local Indian restaurant, always a pleasure to visit. The staff are friendly and are always welcoming. Since lockdown I have ordered from here numerous times as the food is delicious!

We gave it a try for my birthday, the staff were very accommodating we have a 2yo boy who gets very agitated when he sits around for too long. They didn't batt an eyelid at his screams and shouts which was very refreshing. When the waiter was taking our order, I was a little shocked when he walked off midway through to deal with a external takeaway order sorted that and then came and finished our order, which struck me as odd. When the food came it was ok, not amazing but quite average tasty hot and fresh, not much of it tbh very very small portions, we were able to bring our own alcohol in which was great. When we recieved the bill it was very expensive considering we brought our own alcohol and just purchased soft drinks. The over all experience was a little too busy and underwhelming for me and extremely under staffed.

Absolutely love this indian restaurant! Have been coming to this restaurant since I first moved to Elm Park in 1986! Would not use any other in the area! Friendly staff, excellent food and delivery usually doesn't take too long! Brilliant value for money too and as they are now BYO an inexpensive night out!

Absolute rubbish £45.00 of takeaway food.2 chefs choice main and 2 traditional curries, swamping in oil and totally bland. Using this restaurant for30 years but never again. Better off buying a jar of patak,s paste and making your own.

Ordered a takeaway over 2 hours ago and live 5 minutes away and we are still without our food...do not order from here

Ordered 3 mains , 1 side , rice & breads , none of us enjoyed our meals , onions was hardly cooked , and when I asked about any free sides with our order. I was told if I pay cash free side , if pay by card , nothing, I wonder why that is ?? , we will not be ordering form this place again .

For several years now my family has been loyal customers to this restaurant and have been going every Christmas Eve here. Tonight was a horrible experience. The whole night we felt very hurried as though they didn't want us to stay and be there and enjoy ourselves. We weren't offered desert menues and were not warned they no longer have an alcohol licence. We were told to leave without even a 'sorry' and when we expressed our upset at being told to leave rudely, and at the poor service, we were called 'liars'. We did not deserve this treatment after spending near £90 and a tip. Terribly disappointed and will no longer recommend much to my upset

Visited on a Friday night. The restaurant was very quiet, just 4 people in total. No alcoholic drinks available. We bought our drink from the Tesco across the road. Service was good and very friendly. Our meal was ok. Not a place I would rush back to or take friends but was alright for a quick curry at short notice on a Friday night.

Best indian ive had in over a year been let down so much in romford but this is the place to go highly recommend will defo be going back weekly happy days

First time eating here I decided to grab a take away and I wasn't disappointed! Very old fashioned restaurant but also very cosy and with quite dim lighting. I drove the meal back to my house in upminster expecting a layer of oil and grease to have formed on my chicken Madras...but it was perfect! A really nice, almost citrus flavoured sauce with heaps of chicken. The pilau rice and chapati were fine too.Staff were friendly and it was reasonably priced. See you soon Taj.

Two of us popped into the Taj on the spur of the moment on a Friday night. The restaurant was fairly busy but there was a table for two available. This was actually my first visit to this Indian restaurant.We had a couple of beers whilst mulling over the menu. We both decided to skip starters although we did have a couple of Papadoms each. For mains, we both settled for the Chicken Hundi, a dish that I had never tried before. We also chose some side dishes including mushroom rice, Bombay Aloo and a couple of cheese Nan breads.Our meal was very tasty, especially the Hundi, we didn’t bother with a dessert as our main meal was enough for us. We finished our meal off with a shot of Baileys each. Many of the Indian restaurants that I’ve used in the past usually give you a free liquor after your meal, but we paid for ours.Service was very good and prices were reasonable. I would certainly visit this Indian when next in Elm Park.

Visiting friends who lived nearby, they took me to their favourite local Indian restaurant.They were clearly regulars as they were made to feel very welcome when we arrived. The food was excellent. I requested an adaptation to one of the dishes and it wasn't a problem at all. Service too was wonderful. I can see why my friends visit regularly.

Pedimos un montón de platos por 12 de nosotros para un pizzería familiar. Tardamos 1 hora y 30 minutos para llegar cuando nos dijeron que una hora. Hay un montón de la comida no estaba y me dijeron que iban a dar la comida que faltaba gratis, pero cuando llegamos con la comida que falta la 30 minutos más tarde me pidieron dinero. Como algunos de nosotros ya había terminado la cena cuando otros no empezamos a pagar el precio. No pedir para llevar desde aquí de nuevo!

I have been going to the Taj since I moved to Elm Park in 2008. Its a proper old school curry house. Lovely food at very reasonable prices, Cobra on tap, a take out service and waiting staff who always make you feel welcome. Long may it reign.

We have been visiting this restaurant for several years now.It has friendly staff with a sense of humour. Regular customers who return again and again. It also has a Take Away service that we often utilise. Situated in Elm Park Avenue, Elm Park(Hornchurch), very close to the bus routes for 372, 365 and 165 with a car park next to Sainsbury's. There is a varied menu and the usual wine list with some beers such as Cobra etc.My favourite dish is Tandoori chicken tikka as I am not keen on creamy or very spicy saucesHowever my husband is far more adventurous and has tried most of the meat dishes and his favourites are Mug Mascara and Chicken Seasick or Dhansak.Well worth a visit

I've been to this friendly local restaurant a few times and have eaten a different meal each time. The food is always good and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. If you go back they usually remember you.

My husband and i go here often and as always we are never disappointed with the food or the service , the staff are always friendly.

This has been our favourite Indian restaurant by a long way, since moving to the area two years ago. We eat here most weeks and try to take all our visitors to sample great Indian food and hospitality. The service is spot on and the waiters have become more like friends to us. Please don't change, guys.

My family and I have been eating at this curry house for well over 25 years now - despite moving out of the area 14 years ago, we still make the trip to Elm Park to visit our old friends at the Taj.The service is second to none, nothing is too much trouble, while the food is perfectly flavoursome, but not overpowering. The chefs are more than happy to tend to your tastebuds, creating a dish of your choice if not on the menu, as well as adapting existing dishes as required.Tandoori and tikka dishes are served the traditional way - on a hotplate, while the range of curries is remarkable!

I have been eating at the Taj (as well as ordering takeaway from here) for around 10 years or so now. The food is absolutely fantastic, definitely the best in the area. The service is second to none too - when eating in the restaurant the friendly waiters are always around to help you and to bring you more drinks, etc. Cannot fault, can only recommend to absolutely everyone!
