Small little restaurant, so you must book. Nice people. Starter was very good - Kebab. Now for a moan. The biriani had 4 cubes of chicken at best and a pile of rice. For a dish that costs as much as you could buy 3 whole chickens!!, but you choose to be a bit tight on the quantities of meat. What a shame. Will I return? Maybe if everywhere else was closed and I wanted a plate of rice?

Tiny restaurant but good food and service. The sauces that came with the poppadoms were really tasty and fresh. I would think it is essential to book if you want to eat in.

We'd seen a couple of poor reviews, but this was the only place open that night so we went. It was terrific. The dining room is small and harshly lit, usually a no no for us, but we quickly forgave them. We hadn't realised it was unlicensed, but other guests piled in with offers of wine and directions to Tescos which fixed that. There is an interesting mix of pickles with the poppadums, mixed grill starter was lovely and my husband's chicken jalfrezi was good as was my chicken jaljal, a notch down on the spice. Our food was fresh, tasty and not at all greasy. Service was professional, charming and proactive. This was a good a curry as you will get in a Midlands curry house, enough said!

This was a delicious dining experience for both is us. Two different curries, 1 chicken, one nice prawns, with distinct flavours, generous portions, and polite pleasant staff. The restaurant does not have a drinks license, so take your own if you wish. Our friends had great starters. Not only did we have a good dining experience here almost 10 years ago but the restaurant was commended in a non-fiction book in the 90s. What a great local tradition. Don't change, in this crazy world!

My husband and I had takeaway from here. It was terrible. Hubby had the 1/2 chicken fried with chips. The chicken was so well fried it was un-edible. The chips looked like they were reheats, not even hot. I had the tandoori mixed grill. Thee most disgusting thing iv ever had. The lamb was a greenish grey colour I the middle and tasted vile. Some kind of gloopy sauce with it, rice had been microwaved. Suffering bad doze stomache ace after an hour. Will never go back.

In the local area on a TV and film production and I’d stayed in Lochgilphead before but never got the opportunity to try the Taj Mahal on my previous visit. Opted to eat in rather than take-out, received very friendly service and the food was amazing and came within good time, this was definitely one of the best lamb curries I’ve ever had. The Taj Mahal in Lochgilphead is definitely well worth a visit, it’s not too pricey either.

Fantastic wee Indian restaurant with delicious freshly cooked food and charming, efficient service. We had great pakora starters, followed by three excellent mains and a fantastic tarka dal, one of the best ever. We even had some fresh chillies on the side in case son's meal wasn't hot enough (not really needed, but welcome all the same). Crispy hot naan breads and perfect mushroom rice. Service was swift and lovely, with both the owner and a young lady looking after us. The owner also made recommendations to us of meals he thought we might enjoy, having heard our discussion. At the end of the meal, as we were chatting to the owner, the chef popped out to say hello too. Take your own alcohol - this tiny restaurant doesn't have a full licence, but they were very happy to provide us with glasses, bottle opener etc and to clear away our empties. The majority of the Taj Mahal is a takeaway, so there are only around 16 covers, in the front service area, quite brightly lit (but pretty table settings), people calling in for orders etc - probably not somewhere for a romantic first date. But if you want excellent food and service, in a spotlessly clean place, look no further. We will definitely be back.

Great place for an evening meal. There was a huge choice of dishes on the menu and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Our meal arrived very quickly after being ordered and was delicious. They do not have an alcohol licence but you can bring your own and they have a good choice of soft drinks. The restaurant is quite small so at busier times it is probably best to book. They also do take aways.

Came to Lochgilphead on a business trip and sadly decided to come here first off the young lady behind the counter is really nice and polite and isn’t her fault I had a bad meal. The main reason the meal was a disaster is coriander in my food would I said multiple times I hate the taste and don’t want any in my food it sadly was in my curry and completely LOADED in my side portion of mushroom’s and tasted disgusting I sent it back and it came back with the chef saying it’s not coriander now come on I’ve been eating curry’s for 2 decades so I know what coriander is in taste n looks so really didn’t enjoy the meal. Also the restaurant is tiny and me being abit claustrophobic I’d really would not of liked the restaurant to of been full has there wouldn’t be no room, it was cramp has it was and there was only 5 ppl. Also one more little thing when I was served my curry it came in a serving bowl and I didn’t get offered a plate to serve my self. I won’t return to the Taj Mahal but the Chinese next door is great so I would recommend.

My only visit here, so far, was for a midweek carry-out. The restaurant is tiny: maybe 18 seats in close-packed tables. Only two seats were occupied during my brief wait. I do hope it gets a lot more trade at other times to make sure it survives. Based on my simple dishes I really hope it does. Everything was well-flavoured and nicely textured. We had mixed pakora (chicken and vegetable), lamb tikka and chicken makhani. The pilau rice was very aromatic and, as many others have commented on, the naans were excellent.

On a visit to the lovely Lochgilphead we were very tired after a very long drive. We saw a menu for the Taj Mahal in the cottage and next thing we knew we were sitting with our pj's on enjoying a very tasty ensemble of Chinese and Indian food. It was extremely tasty and plenty of spices and fresh ingredients used in both, only negative were the chips, a little underdone and bland. Apart from that a very tasty and enjoyable meal before the trivial pursuit came out.

Typical Indian take away. No roll in the till or card payment option (tax avoidance?). Good enough if you really hungry

Friendly, relaxed and cheap Indian right in the middle of the town and a perfect place to restore your energy if you have had a long drive to Argyll. Decent Indian and Chinese menu and all freshly cooked on the times I have been. Bring your own alcohol and that makes it even more worthy !

Great food but atm if you order online it is more expensive than phoning or ordering in shop 🤔 until new menus printed out.
