Fantastic meal, had starter of prawn purée, king prawn damask as main plain rice, lovely. Not too hot nor bland, not greasy. Very tasty.Wonderful friendly service with lovely views across the harbour.Very relaxed and chilled environment.Good selection of spirits, but ran out of brandy, which would be my only comment. But the king fisher larger went down well.I was here 2 days so was a nice home from home in Darlington.

A night right out of Faulty McTowers with a nod to some famous celebs. Food adequate, service comical. Would have been quicker if served by Lord Lucan. Eventually received the bill from Campletown's male equivelnt to Dianne Abbott who 'forgot' to include the Eat Out to Help Out discount. Will not be returning for a new series.

While visiting family we decided to have a meal here, first off I have to say the food was really lovely but what let’s it down in cleanliness and during this pandemic cleanliness is key! Our table cloth has foot stains and the window ledge covered in ring marks from glasses. But what really surprised us was that they didn’t so much as take our name never mind any other details should they need to track and trace!

I have been avoiding the Taj for a long time. Previously it was very poor in all areas. NOW its much improved. The service was outstanding. The food was presented well and on hot plates. The only minus point would be to say that the spicing was very anglicised and lacked true authenticity - difficult to provide in Scotland perhaps. Nevertheless the food was very acceptable, well cooked and generously portioned.

We decided to holiday for a week in the Mull of Kintyre and noticed this establishment. Being so remote in Scotland we were sceptical about the standard of food, however our doubts were expelled when our meals arrived (there were 4 of us). Each meal was beautifully cooked and tasty, and each dish was distinctly different (as in some indian restaurants a lot of the curries taste the same). Choice of dishes vast. We ended up going again and the food as good as the last time. Cannot recommend enough.

There are some new items on the menu that I have enjoyed, especially the Lamb Tikka Satkora. Delicious tender chunks of lamb in a rich sauce with subtle hints of lime. Most recently I had the Lamb Pathia and it was probably the best I've ever tasted. Service was very friendly if a bit zany at times but that all added to the fun. Cancel what I said before. I was visiting Campbeltown for the weekend and got a take-away Pakora (one vegetable portion and one chicken portion). I have tried many Indian restaurants overs the years, and I can safely say that this was the worst Pakora I have every eaten. The vegetable pakora was burnt and dry, and the chicken pakora was absolutely dripping in fat (the greaseproof bag was struggling to hold all the fat in). The portions were also the smallest I've ever had: 6 pieces of pakora in each (for c£3 a portion), although not such a bad thing on tis occasion as I left most of them.I certainly won't be going back to the Taj Mahal, for a carry out or sit in meal. First off, my pint of lager was served in an obviously badly cracked glass. How it wasn't spotted I really don't know. The naan bread was very clearly from a packet and most certainly was not made on the premises. Neither, I would suggest, was any of the curry. We both had separate dishes and I can tell you, as someone who makes restaurant standard turka/gravy/curry at home, the dishes served up to us seemed very much to me to be some kind of bought in affair. I knew as soon as it was placed on the table by looking at it and smelling it that it was not going to be good. It wasn't. It was easily the worst "curry" I've ever tasted. The place itself looks fine, no real issues. The staff however need to cheer the hell up, make a good deal more effort with customers or, seriously consider a change of career, maybe something in funeral care would be more apt.Prices are average but as the food is not even approaching average it counts as one of the least value for money eateries ever visited. I've had curries in pubs that were light years better and a frozen ready-meal from any supermarket would be my choice over eating anything served here.I guess the lack of any real competition means they don't have to try too hard. Truly, certainly, without doubt, a once in a lifetime experience.

We were in Campbelltown for the day, sailing over on the waverley and decided to go here for our dinner, we were the first customers, the table we were seated at had a dirty tablecloth, we asked for drinks and poppadoms but the drinks arrived 10 mins later with no poppadoms, then we asked again but still never got them, we waited another for 20 mins until our meal was ready, and had to ask for poppadoms again (still waitingon them), when it finally came it tasted good but it wasn't very warm and portions were very small, then it took at least 15 mins for our table to be cleared, then we asked for the bill after another 10 mins still no bill, so we asked again then we discovered we had been over charged for chips and we argued with the manager then he checked the menu and he had to refund us as we were right. Service needs to improve and prices are on the steep side and we were charged £9.75 for two small bottled waters and a shandy, its the dearest water ive ever bought and poppadoms were 60p EACH which is ridiculous! as they are only 25p/30p at my nearest Indian takeaway. This was a combination of not seating guests at the correct table for the size of party to just pointing at a table for new diners to sit at - in a way it was a form of entertainment and made up for no music. The food itself I have to say was delicious, I had the Chicken Tikka to start which was succulent and moist. Visited here with 5 friends and we're all in agreement ... this is The most appallingly bad Indian Restaurant! The Chicken Pakora looked & tasted like chicken nuggets but this was almost a highlight compared to the Curries we were served!Six different dishes but strangely all looked and tasted amazingly similar ... they all reminded us of the same thing ... those boxed Vesta Curries that were popular in the 70's but would probably be against some 'Fitness for Human Consumption Law' these days.

After a long bike ride on the last day of our cycle tour we read reviews that made the Taj Mahal out to be an amazing place. It was ok. Not a bad curry but not amazing either. Would I go back, yes probably. We had two lamb dishes, they were not so different but both good and we ate up.Does a good trade in takeaway it seems.

Amazing curry after a great beam reach from Lamlash. Quality all round well worth a visit. Will definitely visit again. One of my top 5 curries ever and I eat about 3 a week. Enjoy.

Traveled here on business and after an evening meeting came to eat here. I was the only diner. It did not improve the qualiyty of the food however, as it was decidedly average. The curry was no more than mildly hot and was disappointing.

We bought a selection of dishes for a take away, basically as described on the menu. Really tasty, well cooked foods with a few additional extras thrown in at no additional cost. Pakora was not as we know it but like chicken tikka balls (like the Chinese chicken balls). Would highly recommend and wod definitely visit again.

The menu offers many choices. We had three dishes (2 curries) and all were competently prepared. Service was very responsive and polite. It is right on the harbourfront and we enjoyed the room. It was practically empty when we were there, but this is a very good choice in Campbeltown.

There was not really anything we did not like. I had lamb which was a bit undercooked for my taste but the sauce was good and my Wife's chicken was well done. The onion bhajis were the best I have had anywhere. The staff are very pleasant and the front of house is clean and tidy. Obviously we did not see the kitchens but the place had a 'clean' feel which we think is important. Finally we did not think the menu is overpriced and it offers good value.

First time here. We ordered in person at a small takeaway counter,(if you wanted to sit in you went through a door to the restaurant,we wanted to collect an hour later. When we went back we still had to wait in a queue to be seen. Then the order wasn't ready and still had to wait a further 20 mins. Food average and no extras/discount for way of apology.

We've eaten in many Indians over the years and this is honestly one of the best ones we've been to! From the outside, it doesn't look like it would be as good but looks aren't everything! From looking at Trip Advisor reviews, we decided to give this one a go and we were very, very impressed! The waiters were so nice, so friendly. The menu is extensive and the waiter gave recommendations. The food was excellent, first class and came in big portions, too big for us! For starter, two mains, rice, poppadum and naan and beer, it came to under £30. We wish we had come back here for our third night instead of going where we went. Cannot wait to come back! Definitely visit here, it is not to be missed!

This is an excellent Indian restaurant in a town that needs this kind of place. Let's face it, Campbeltown cannot play "hard to get". There is not a lot going on here other than golf and sailing - and sailing doesn't seem to be doing that well. The take-away line was quite long, but no one was going in, except for our group of Londoners and Yanks. The locals had better do more than walk their dogs past this place, or it will fail and Campbeltown will be that much less appealing. We had a terrific meal here. The food and service were equal to anything we had experienced in London or New York. But I don't think the outsiders can keep this place in business. The locals are a super-friendly group and should make a point of meeting here for dinner at least once a month.

After reading the reviews thought we would give it a try it was our first time in this area. The food was delicious and incredibly good value! We ordered popadoms, chutneys, 2 curries, 2 rice, naan (amazing) and saag aloo along with two large cobras and it was only £30. I can imagine it was a lot tastier and cheaper than the surrounding pubs in the area. We would definitely visit again if we find ourselves in the town again. Two very satisfied customers.

This is one of the best meals I have ever eaten in an Indian restaurant. We were on holiday in the area as decided to try this place. Try it and you will not be disappointed. Service was excellent and although the decor is not anything to write home about it is a clean and well presented place. Staff were very attentive and we could not fault the place. I had chicken Patia and it was delicious. Pity it's so far away or it would be my go to place to eat.

Tried to book a table at the Royal but nothing available. In the end, glad, as the Taj Mahal served up excellent Tandoori. The restaurant was far too hot though, but service was good.
