Visited for dinner, one of the few places in Rothesay where you can sit in for food after 8pm. Had a look in before and discovered it was a BYOB place so went to the Co-Op and bought a few beers to take with us. Have the chefs platter to start with very very tasty and a nice mix. Lamb biryani for the main, slightly grease but quite a lot of good size lamb pieces. Definitely worth a visit.

First time here and it'll be the last. I paid £7.50 for 4 scraggy bits of chicken pakora. Was told that my main came with rice (it didn't), was charged £2.50 for a glass of Coke (cans of Barrs cola). The place was overrun with bluebottles, and there were dead insects on the ledge next to us. It wasn't worth the money I paid. We will not be returning!

First time visit on this 3 day Bute trip. This is an intimate restaurant directly opposite the seafront gardens. We recd a lovely welcome from owner Mica.We had Cauliflower pakora starter followed by Lamb bhuna and chicken Masaledar. The meat and sauces were beautifully cooked, flavourful and tasty. The Paratha bread was also great with the piquant thick sauces. Prices were affordable. Thoroughly recommended, the restaurant is worth a visit for all indian food fans. You will not be disappointed.😏

Sorry, but this was the worst Indian takeaway I think I’ve ever eaten. Saag aloo was unrecognisable brown sludge. Chana dish wasn’t much better. I don’t normally like leaving bad reviews for small businesses but this one should really try and improve on quality.

I ate in this fantastic restaurant for an entire week. Every night we had a different dish and each was even better than the last. That was 4 years ago and it still stands in my memory as the best Indian restaurant I ever ate at. Every time I eat in an Indian restaurant, which is quite often, I always compare it with this restaurant. All the other restaurants, in all the countries I've been to, have always paled next to this one.

Avoid is my best advice. We had a memorable takeaway meal a lamb bhoona and Chicken dhansac. With naan and rice. Also a mixed pakora large. The meals were very bland onion rough chopped in large sections. The meal was mdmorable because 3 hours after consuming some of it an ufgent call off nature occurred and ghis vontinued for two days so mdmorable indeed. The naan was OK. Didn't try the pakora all too risky tbh. The shop is tired and kitchen the kitchen extends to the rear. Buyer beware!

Never have i been in a restaurant and experienced such an un professional owner in over 26 years of touring round the scottish islands and highlands, myself, my wife and kids had sat for over 15minutes not even being acknowledged untill we were seen and a man came over threw menues unfront of us without a word and walked back to kitchen i assumed was chef but turns out was owner aswell as chef , then before we had been even spoken to about drinks etc a young girl hurried in looking upset apologising about something but the owner/chef ripped into the girl without letting her even speak he was shouting top of voice liar your just a liar and we were like what is going on , but we heard a little of the girl trying to explain her mums really ill and most likely not be for this world long , but as my wife and my own heart went out to the girl the owner continued to shout i dnt care if your mums dead we couldnt belive what we were hearing tbh , infact a couple sat a few tables away stood up and walked out at this point , but we had 2 hungry children with us so we really had no option as not many places near by to sit in to eat , however to give the owner his place the girl once her shock i assume wore off did answer him straight back that it wasnt that when a family member of his was really ill and hed left the staff to run resturant by them selfs but owner was so close to this girls face she actually had to step back it was absolutely disgraceful but when young girl said no wonder no one will work for you as ive took your s**t for nearly 5years for £7.50 per hour we couldnt beleive this was all bejng played out in middle of resturant by a business owner to obviously one of his staff so girl eventually said im away but was so upset my wife went out to make sure girl was ok and seems her mum has week or 2 at most expected on this earth so for the owner to be shouting such horrible things im not surprised the girl said no one will work for him as the night went on he was so obnoxious to near ever person who entered the resturant , it was blatantly obvious he was drinking alcohol as he got louder and louder and for the delivery person all he got was roared at also and we could clearly hear this from sat in resturant , it was so bad when girl was being nose to nose threatened by owner one if my kids actually asked to leave as was afraid of the indian mans language and shouting into girls face who was already upset. I would never step foot in the place again nor recommend anyone else to either it was most unpleasant end to a wonderful 3 day on isle of bute but that owner clearly has a drink or people mangement problem , i suspect both if being honest

0 for the service We had horrible experience in the restaurant, it is our 1st visit to this place we ordered Rogan Josh and Punjabi veg curry chicken curry and many more dishes specifically asked to make it spicy and well cooked but the food was average with zero salt and spice. lamb was undercooked and bitter. Informed the waitress, she told us that she will inform the chef and replace it with no charge but we told politely we are done eating and asked for bill. Out of nowhere, the chef came and started screaming at us saying how can you complains about my food, everyone is eating, no one complained and you guys are always like this always complaining(thats our 1st visit) and started throwing chicken and lamb in our plates(I am a vegetarian was eating at that time.) saying its cooked well. When we tried to explain to him that meat is undercooked and bitter in taste he didn't understand the word bitter and what butter, better you don't know what's butter it is fat and blabbering and said you want food for free. Paid around 80 pounds and left the place.

Great food but watch out for early closing. Two of us walked in at 2215 for a main course only sit down meal (having literally just passed the previous customers as they walked away after their meal) to be told it was takeaway only - the hours on Google are advertised as a 2300 finish. We were looking forward to a curry so decided to go ahead & order with the intention of finding a dry spot in town to eat the meal. We ordered the chicken tikka chamakchola which came with pilau rice & to be fair, it was very good - just a shame we couldn't dine in especially seeing as we'd eaten our food & got back to our hotel by 2300.

Decent food. Decent prices. Slow inattentive yet friendly service. No alcohol license, but BYOB with corkage allowed. Starters of mince samosas and a prawn poori were average. mince lacked flavour and could have been warmer, but it was edible. Bread for poori was light, sweet sauce on the poori was the same sweet sauce on the chick peas that accompanied the samosas. Nice enough. Mains were much better and would entice us back. Lamb in my lamb achari was tender and tasty. The sauce had the perfect amount of lime pickle and garlic. The chicken chasni had heaps of tasty tender chicken in a sweet red sauce. Rice and naan were perfect. Server and cook/owner were very friendly, but not what I'm looking for in a restaurant. I want good speedy service. Took 20 minutes to get the bill then another 15 to take the money to pay it. I've learned that's life on Bute. Other restaurants are similar!

We ordered takeaway served by Theresa who seemed to be on another planet, she literally took my order than came back 2 minutes later asking if I had ordered something else. Whilst we were waiting she had someone come in and basically threaten her for money presumably for drug debts judging by her mannerisms. Aside from the comedy whilst ordered the food was below par, an undercooked doughy pizza, a miserable half portion of chips with cheddar cheese instead of the customary mozerella. Now chips cheese and donner meat is generally served as it is said not chips donner meat and cheddar cheese. In addition the donner meat was hard and not appealing. Very disappointed!

First we made the mistake of eating in the restaurant which seemed to take the owner by surprise. Once we sat down we realised it wasn't the cleanest place. There was rice on thr floor and a dirty stained child t-shirt draped over a chair at one table. The menu is extensive but perhaps too large to make anything of actual quality because there's so many dishes.Once we ordered it was a but like a circus performance as we were brought poppadoms and chutney but no cutlery at all and plates brought to us one at a time (one of which was flithy and had to be swapped). The starters were reasonable all be it frozen onion bhajis which were grey and mushy in the muddle. The open kitchen probably didn't help the chef to hid his sins as we watched the box of frozen bhaji get dropped into the frier. The main courses was the real let down. The rices definitely weren't cooked fresh and were reheated and mushy. The nan bread was exactly the same shape as the supermarket pre packed nan breads but looked like it had been put under the grill to mimic being made in a tandoor oven. If the nan was homemade they must make they for Sharwoods and Pataks too.The curry sauces were OK. The tandoori chicken really let them down. Very dry and probably precooked to be dropped into the sauce. The chicken wasn't skewered which again suggests there is no tandoori oven where you would normally cook tikka chicken. At this point in the meal we waved the white flag and called it a day. Our bill for 4 people came to £68. A price I'd happily pay for a half decent Indian meal. Unfortunately this wasn't even half decent. The final act of the evening came when it appeared no one could work the till and I was asked to make a bank transfer direct to the owners account. This was new to me and probably news to the tax office too!I did gave a brief chat with the chef/owner and explained my disappointment. I was duly told that being from Manchester if he'd have known he wouldn't have cooked the dishes in the same manner, and he only cooks creamy curries because the Bute locals don't like anything else. I'm not totally convinced about needing to tell the chef in every restaurant where your from so they can tailor their cooking methods to your home town variation. Having eaten curries around the world I've never felt the need to tell the restaurant where I'm from in order to receive edible food. Overall, I think they're cutting too many potentially dangerous corners (reheated rice and meat) trying to cater for everyone with such a large menu. If they cooked just 5/6 main dishes well they could concentrate on making other things fresh. One of the oddest things was the lack of any kitchen noise or talking in the kitchen. We could hear a pin drop in the restaurant because there was no music and not a single customer other than us. After our experience I think I know why now.

Best way to try any new Indian takeaway (on holiday) for us is to order tried and tested favourites from our usual takeaway back home. So 2 vegetable pakora, Chicken Tikka Biryani and Chicken Tikka Bhuna was the order we placed. As this took the bill to just over £25 we then would receive 'complimentary' poppadoms and spiced onions. (or so we thought)I paid when I ordered and headed into town for a beer whilst the order was made. On my return was initially asked for payment again, which was quickly refused and then clarified. On unpacking the order back at our holiday let I was disappointed to see that the poppadoms and spiced onions were missing. In the end that was the least of our worries. The pakora were so overly spiced that any flavour was lost which was then obliterated by the hot sauce. Our taste buds having been destroyed it may well have been that the biryani and bhuna were passable, however it was almost impossible to tell. I rarely leave anything when we have our usual takeaway but couldn't finish my share of the bhuna and rice.If nothing else this proves that we're spoiled by our favourite Indian restaurant and takeaway in Dumfries which always provides quality, no matter what you order.

From some of the other reviews I've read on here it would appear that this place is a bit hit and miss. When we entered the restaurant we weren't entirely sure if it was open or not. The owner's small son assured us that it was and his father came out from the kitchen and invited us to sit down. We were the only people in the restaurant so service was prompt and our food arrived quickly. Given that many of the reviews for this place are pretty bad I was worried that we may have made a mistake. Most of the restaurants in Rothesay don't open until tea time.I ordered a chicken jalfrezi, my husband had a chicken biryani and my friend had a vegetable bhuna. My friend and I decided to share a bowl of rice, which was a mistake because the portion was rather small so we ended up having to order another one, which, incidentally was really huge! We were served by the owner's son, who is only about 7 years old and a really lovely, polite little boy - a pleasure to speak to.My husband ordered a coke and my friend had a sweet lassi. I ordered a salty lassi. The lassis were a bit watery, and came in a pint glass. Unfortunately, mine was so salty that I couldn't drink it so the owner, who is very accommodating and friendly, immediately replaced it with a glass of water, and didn't charge me for it.Our main courses were huge, and the sauces on each were delicious! My husband, who has a huge appetite, was at pains to finish his dish. I cleared my plate as it was so tasty but I really felt like I was about to burst! My friend said she thoroughly enjoyed her curry as well. Needless to say we had no room left to try any desserts. We really enjoyed our meal at the Indian Pavillion. The owner, who is from Amritsar in the Punjab, is really friendly and chatty and makes you feel that nothing is too much trouble. I would not hesitate to return to this restaurant on my next visit to Rothesay.

I won't lie, I've had much better curries elsewhere, however, this is the best Indian curry you're going to find on the island, and the price for what you get is great. We ordered in-person and collected to take-away. When we got home we discovered the rice was missing - a quick phone call and they brought it over free of charge so we were very happy with the service too. Would recommend if you're on the island.

Had another fantastic curry in this amazing restaurant which is family run by Mika and Cheryl and of course not forgetting their daughter Molly who helps to serve and makes sure all is to the customers satisfaction. The meals are superb and always served with a smile. This restaurant always makes sure that customers are very happy. Restaurant is very clean and tables and chairs very comfortable. Superb Mika and Cheryl. Will be back.

Unfortunately the only curry house we could find after a long drive to Bute. Probably the worst curry I have ever experienced.

Food here was ok but service could be better. It was a Sunday evening and not busy. No licence but you could bring your own drinks and no credit cards so be prepared

Friendly, family run restaurant, right on the front. Extensive menu, can recommend the South Indian garlic chicken and lamb jaipuri.

Tenemos una casa de vacaciones en Bute, y quería probar un restaurante indio. Por desgracia, la comida era de mala calidad, uno de los platos que pedimos era vegetariana, pero vinieron con pollo. Algunas de las mesas tenían manteles sucios. Platos principales eran malos aunque...

Sometimes you need to be exceptional to stamp your mark in a small town and despite it being a cold october night the taj mahal was fairly busy. A few tables plus takeaways were keeping staff busy. A friendly welcome was followed by a quick service. A nice mahkani masala with rice and mixed pakora were appreciated!!

Truly terrible, my wife asked for a 'ploughman's jacket potato ' got a jacket potato with at least two tablespoons of Branston pickle and no cheese, service was slow and chaotic I had a chicken and bacon baguette, and if there was any bacon in there, I missed it. Meanwhile the kitchen was filled with loud conversation/argument at all times. Also, as a lot of other people have said, check your bill carefully as they seem to have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to adding up. We were smoothly overcharged, and we made them check the bill 3 times before they came up with the right answer. Plenty of other options on the street, avoid this one.
