Came here for our wedding anniversary and was treated to a fantastic meal. The manager was very knowledgeable and attentive to us and treated us to some lovely Vermut! Libby was lovely and couldn't do enough for us. So much to choose on the menu and the food is fantastic, must try!

Wow - what a great restaurant! It was really near our hotel so we came here late and so glad we did. Everything we had was delicious and tasty - fish tacos and the salads being really memorable. The pricing was really on point as well. Quality food at reasonable prices. You may need to walk slightly out of the city but it's worth the extra effort as we tried one of their other branches and this one was significantly better!

First visit and will be back. Great service to ensure we made it to our show at the Barbican fed and watered on time, really appreciated :-) Fab food and drink. Bit of a gem a little off the main drag but well worth the visit.

A deserved five star review. Visited as a couple to celebrate a birthday in York for the day and had such an enjoyable meal. The tapas was outstanding, the Pimiento del Piquillo Relleno and Chicharrón particularly. The wine offering is huge, as is the sherry and the tasting selection useful as first time sherry drinkers. Such friendly, helpful staff and a vibrant atmosphere. It’s in a nice part of the town that’s a bit more relaxed, I’d absolutely recommend to visitors.

We had a delicious meal at Tabanco, our first visit. The food was out of this world and Ruby, who served us, was so friendly, helpful, and a delight. This was our first night out in ages and we had a really lovely evening. Will definitely return.

Tapas food dishes were very tasty. A nice venue for lunch. The food was paired with a selection of sherries (3) with a very good selection of dry - sweet sherry on offer.

Was in York for friends get together and ate on the Friday night, made really special through Jim the Manager and excellent host. Very knowledgeable about food and wine and Sherrie’s. It was so good we booked the Saturday night and had the same excellent experience. Jim and the staff were superb

This was one of the best tapas place I have been in the UK! The food is delicious but the croquetas with spinach and blue cheese are off the scale! And I don’t even like blue cheese… Also, the portions are bigger than what we are used to see in London. Ruby was incredibly friendly and made great suggestions abou the food and the wine. I will certainly go back there next time I am in York.

Lovely restaurant with amazing food and service.

Actually other dishes taste not bad, but the seafood rice smelled wired. Truly, the fish was smelly so I even did not finish the seafood rice. The manager didn’t talk to us for it. Are you serious? If you told me Paellas all the world are smelly, Ok, chef, that is my impression to spanish food.

Wonderful service, great selection, delicious food and relaxed atmosphere. All the staff are brilliantly friendly and welcoming, happy to answer questions and make suggestions to help you make the most of your visit. We demolished a wide range of tapas and a jug of sangria between us. Make sure and book to avoid disappointment.

Delicious food and excellent Sherries! Ronnie made my 9 year daughter and I feel really welcomed - his service was spot on. It was quiet but we were very early and it still felt lovely.

She spoke a bit of Portuguese and was able to interact with my Brazilian parents, my mum was so happy she could finally speak to someone else and was full of compliments about you. Thank you so much for making us feel so comfortable, you’re amazing at your job and a lovely person.

Today we had lunch there, the experience Today we had lunch there, the experience was wonderful! The waiter Zdenka attended to us in detail, explaining each dish and giving us excellent recommendations. If I owned the place, I'd hire people like Zdenka. She not only helps us with the dishes, but also sells them to us! It is worth a visit, not only for the tasty dishes, but also for the service.

What an awesome place for an authentic Spanish tapas. We had quite a big feast - starting from Pedro Ximenez Sherry flight, ordering a few different dishes and ending with Basque cheesecake. Boquerones tasted just like in Malaga, so did Victoria Malaga beer (yes we did mix two types of alcohols, but both Sherry and the Malaga beer were too tempting to refuse). One thing I would perhaps change is serving bread in bigger amounts and charging for it less at the same time, as it is used pretty much as an utensil when having tapas.

Level evening at Tabanco on a Saturday night. We didn't have a booking, so we ended up having a drink at one of the counters facing he window while we waited - they had a good selection of cavas (if you are into thar sort of thing). We had de caramelised chorizo and the grilled prawns as starters, which were really good, but the star was the black pork paella which was amazing! We usually go for the seafood one, but this is well worth the try and everything you would hope on a meaty.

Just round the corner from our Hotel, Tabanco by Ambiente has a lovely atmosphere and great choice of food and drink. Mikhail made our visit an amazing experience. His suggestions and knowledge is outstanding and made our visit the most wonderful and relaxed evening, trying food we would not usually order.

Always amazing food in all of the Ambientre restaurants but this one is my favourite. It has such a great buzzing atmosphere, without being too loud and overwhelming.

I enjoyed a very relaxing lunch here with friends. We were all delighted with the food but also have to say that the service from every member of staff was fantastic . A shout out to Max our server who took exceptional care of us all and went above and beyond to ensure that all of my selections were vegan. Had a lovely meal here, the manager in particular was really friendly & knowledgable of the huge selection of sherry's on offer. Served cold, with dry and light varieties, I was a complete convert and drank Sherry all meal, moving sweeter towards end. All the dishes were beautifully presented and delicious, and it was so good I've booked to come back 5 of us for my birthday in 3 weeks time, see you then ! Highly recommend.

We had such a wonderful last dinner in York here! Lucie was amazing to talk to and really helped us navigate the menu. We definitely ordered too much but I'm so glad we got to taste so many dishes (we had just eaten a big lunch about 3 hours before lol): - Wheel of tapas: BIG! So good. Really loved the tomato bread under the toppings, took me back to Spain. The anchovies were really nice and fresh (as were the other toppings). - Lamb patties: solid, loved the rice they were sitting on a lot. - Octopus - It was good but probably our least favorite dish - I prefer my octopus not sliced/chopped but in a big meaty piece with some char on it. This was slightly fishy. - Iberico secreto: OMG SO GOOD just get it!!! - Patatas bravas: I'm never a fan of these because I find they're always kinda bland, but husband likes them so we order them. I've probably had 50 versions of this dish, and these are by far the best version we've ever had. Every single component on the plate was well seasoned and super flavorful! I couldn't stop eating them! - Monk fish cheeks - Soooooo good. Sweet, soft, and the piperade under it was so flavorful. I didn't know a pepper could have so much flavor! Lastly, drink wise, we love the Complot IPA, the sherry flight was super fun, and the sangria was perfect - not too sweet for us ;). I wouldn't hesitate to come back here on our next trip!

Had a really good time with the family, the food was lovely and authentic and the staff were enthusiastic about the sherries they had on offer, I learned a little bit about the different grapes and processing methods used which was really insightful.

You're spoilt for choice in York when it comes to dining out but Tabanco proves there's room for more. It specialises in sherry but has a superb wine menu with bottles from women-owned vineyards in Spain (bonus for us on IWD). My friend is Spanish and thought the food was authentic but disappointed they didn't have croquettes. It's a lovely intimate yet living dining room. Highly recommend if you're in the Fossgate area.

A very nice celebratory dinner for my family while visiting York from Cyprus. I have to say the food was sublime. The wine was equally good and the service from Lucie was just what you wish for at restaurants but rarely receive... Warm, friendly, attentive and never too far away. A brilliant restaurant who has clearly nailed both their service and offerings. Bravo!

I visited Ambiente for the first time a few months back for my Dad's birthday and the service and food were both excellent. We had a birthday cake I brought for my dad, they sorted out candles and brought them out for us. I got the impression they were attentive as it was his birthday and we were drinking wine. We did not drink any alcohol on the second visit. However, on this visit I was quite disappointed. The food was lovely as usual but the service was disappointing. The staff were friendly but kept telling us about the specials and to order them, a second server even came and smacked a specials menu on the table before leaving. The staff were not attentive to our table at all, not even asking if the food was good or clearing our plates. Our table was a mess of plates for quite some time. Furthermore, the meat Paella we ordered upset my stomach and I threw it up later that evening. Safe to say we will not be returning.

After following Ambiente restaurants for a couple years I booked my husband and I to their Meet the Winemaker event with Sebastien Richard for a celebratory weekend in York. We genuinely enjoyed the event and the food was incredible. We never really work to pair our drink and food at home, but definitely have learned it’s well worth the extra research. Exploring Spanish wines other than the Rioja region has been a real eye opener. We had a lengthy conversation with Ambiente’s Group Manager, Robert Scott-South who spoke to us animatedly and passionately as well as being as attentive as his team. My only wish is that I would have loved a bit more narrative from Sebastien to the group in our side of the restaurant, it might have improved the atmosphere which seemed more intimate rather than social. A huge well done to the team the service was outstanding. We look forward to returning again to Ambiente for another event in the future.

Oh my goodness!! This place is wonderful. From the attentiveness and knowledge of the staff to the gorgeous food they present. Enjoyed 5 plates between two of us with bread and a cheese board accompanied by some sherry tasters. Also the wine was beautiful too. Left feeling full and very happy we went there.

Impromptu visit on a cold wet Jan Tues evening, welcoming and friendly. Food was very good and overall very hospitable. A nice surprise was the £15 for 3 menu before 5.

Excellent food in a beautiful location

Really great food, staff are always spot on and the Southern Spanish tapas options always provide a little bit of variety, seasonal dishes and specials are always great and they can accommodate all Dietary Requirements. All in all, I was very happy with the experience.

AMAZING Tapas Experience! Great Service, they really care about you in this place and this is so hard to come by these days. We where served by Lucie who was the loveliest, she was so attentive. The Food Was So Delicious! I was so full by the end but still wanted to re-order 2 of the dishes we had just had because it was just incredible our favourites where the fish Tacos, Sea bream, pork loin and the risotto.!!! We Would Really Recommend This Place And We Will Be Visiting Again On Our Next Trip To York!

We had an outstanding meal and experience. The staff were delightful, and their attitude and attention elevated a great meal into a superb one. The dishes were delicious, and a cut above a regular Tapas restaurant. The wine and sherry menu is extensive and interesting. If only we lived in York we'd be there every week!

Went with my parents and partner on a Sunday, we had an absolutely fantastic evening. It was very cozy, the food was delicious, the servers were friendly, especially the one with a beard (who's name I can't quite remember unfortunately) who was extremely knowledgeable about the food and the sherry, which was also delicious! Will definitely be going again, and recommending to others.

The environment was nice but staffs were tricky. We requested for a table for 10. The staff told us to wait coz they wanted to arranged a big table for us. We said we are ok to sit separately coz we’re hungry and didn’t want to wait. The staffs insisted and we needed to wait for an hour before getting in. What’s even worse is that sitting in the big table must order a dessert after meal which we didn’t expect. We all think we were being cheated and we were starving!

A great dinner venue if you fancy something different. The tapas had an excellent choice of dishes including some great sea food. The staff complement on the evening were all very good and while some people might view them as a little young, all performed their jobs excellently and could engage well with the customers.
