We arrived without a booking and after a couple of minutes we were shown to our table and handed menus. Unfortunately after that, we were left around 15-20 minutes and nobody came to take our order. Eventually we got drinks thank goodness but then the food must have been another half an hour before it arrived. My husband and I ordered turkish eggs and it was nice but all 4 eggs (my husband's and mind) were all over cooked. I wouldnt go if you are in a rush to be honest, it took almost an hour and a half from start to finish.

It was busy but worth the wait. At first we didn’t get a very warm welcome from the lady when we said there would be 6 of us, but she gradually warmed when other staff members suggested a little furniture rearranging. Food and drinks were amazing and after the initial hesitation we were served with cheerfulness & consideration.

My husband and I took my Dad for lunch, husband had fish finger butty, Dad had poached eggs on toast, I had sweet corn soup with poached egg and we shared some truffle, parmesan and parsley chips which were to die for! Soup was best I’ve had from a cafe/bistro for some time and everyone said how lovely it all was. There was a short wait for food, which was fine as it gave us chance to have a cup of tea before having everything arrive at the same time. There are loads of different types of teas. I’ve eaten here before and always enjoyed it! Will be back, thanks

Had a wonderful early mother's day brunch with the family today. Each of us had something different and we were all super happy with our choices. They were all rather large portions and I who chose a sandwich had a generous filling of BLT. Wherever I go I always ask for my bacon well done and it often comes back disappointing but this was delicious, really crispy with not one bit of fat in sight. The service was lovely, really welcoming and attentative. Absolutely love this place. Would highly recommend.

The most gorgeous visit to T&Cake, Almondbury today! Absolutely devine food and great service. All 3 dishes from the specials board (purple sprouted brocoli and poached eggs on toast, gorgonzola, pear and candied walnut tart and the chocolate pecan French toast), were to die for!! The BLT and Nutella on toast from the standard menu were also delicious! Such generous portion sizes, really great value for money! The thought that goes into putting these dishes together is really special. Can't recommend enough!

My parents were again disappointed by the lack of filling in the sandwiches. I don't know why they keep going back. When wonderfully generous, good value sausage sandwiches are available at such as Bolster Farm cafe then why be ripped off here!

Not for the first time, I was made to feel unwelcome. Three of us entered: "Do you have a reservation?" (The café was virtually empty.) And there would be FIVE of us: we were left to stand around embarrassed while staff debated in exasperated tones how so rare a number could be seated. (Eventual answer: bring a fifth chair...) I like the place and usually have been well received, but really, I can never go back: my guests were embarrassed, and I was embarrassed in front of them. Being at least polite to clients on entry should be a no-brainer, and they CAN do it. They need to sharpen up their act.

I've had a brilliant experience at T and Cake before. I can't eat gluten and as a result was delighted that I could get a really good toasted sandwich made with gluten free bread there in September. Visited with friends today and ordered the same thing as we did last time (which is not marked as a non gluten free option on the menu) - was told that the chef was not happy to make it because "it wouldn't be as good as the normal one". Still asked for it and said I would be happy however it arrived, as I had enjoyed it so much (spoiler alert here - this had hands down been the best gluten free thing I have eaten all year). Front of House came back again a few minutes later to say the chef was unhappy to make it, and offering me a mushroom benedict which I can't eat because of the sauce. I went down to ask the chef what he could make me, to be shouted at and told "I am too busy to deal with this" and was handed over to a member of front of staff. Ended up with a bacon sandwich which I could have made myself and probably better. Sadly had literally said five minutes before this experience that I was going to ask about booking the upstairs for a group booking/party if possible, so they have lost business there. I gather that the standard of Connor's food is much more important than polite or helpful customer service. An easy fix might be take items off the menu if you are unhappy with making them gluten free so the quality so this doesn't happen again. Either way, we won't be going back, so plenty of space freed up for customers who can eat gluten or perhaps one less customer so he will be a little bit less busy and a little bit less stressed.

We were recommended T & Cake from a friend and were looking forward to our lunch. The staff were fantastic and very welcoming. Unfortunately service was slow however we were told upfront that there was a wait for food plus it was a very warm day so we completely understood! The menu is pretty good and meals were described well. I ordered the puff pastry mushroom tartlet and my friend ordered the caesar chicken salad, and we indulged in a side portion of the truffle fries to share. The tartlet was lovely despite feeling a little greasy, the truffle fries were absolutely delicious and crunchy (100% recommended!) however the caesar salad was unfortunately disappointing. My friend told me the chicken wasn’t very nice, that it felt rubbery and fatty. Despite the salad, we enjoyed our lunchtime visit.

We have been Friday regulars at T and Cake since it opened but this was our first visit since the pandemic. I think there are new owners although the menu was the same. The cafe had just a few sparsely scattered tables and seemed rather lacking in life. The garden seating was open but the ambience is spoiled by a noisy extractor fan.The food was acceptable...when it came. Waited 30 mins although the place was nearly empty when we arrived. The initial service for drinks and ordering took far too long. Still a lot to learn about customer service.

i booked a table for 7 which i was told that that was fine over the phone. When arriving we waited ten minutes before being seated we arrived at 2pm on the dot. We where then taken upstairs where the adults where seated at a table and the children were seated on two sofas. I asked my sister are the children going to eat of the floor as there was no table for them. I spoke to the waiter who i found quite abrupt, and asked him if my children were eating off the floor. His reply was they didn t do tables of 7 and it should never have been booked. Eventually as people left they put two tables together. We waited that long to order that i had to go find the waiter. We then ordered, 15 mins later he came back and told us they didn t have some of the food..we then had to pick something else. The food finally came and i had chicken ceaser salad, it was a case of hide and seek with the chicken as there hardly was any. Eventually went tp pay. We spoke to the owner and told her that it was unfair that we had to wait over an hour. She just looked at us and said it was because of the eat out campaign. We weren t offered anything for the bad service we had recieved. Both me and my sister commented on there fb page. The owner copy and pasted us both the same reply which i thought was rude. On looking through the good reviews my daughter pointed out that alot of the profile pictures looked like they had come off google. Overall i think this place is overpriced and overrated

Visited T and Cake to meet friends who were in the area having come up from the South. Got to say could not believe the rudeness of the lady in charge throughout our stay. She has no customer service skills whatsoever, appeared clearly irritated at having to serve us. Food was ok, nothing more with all poached eggs basically hard boiled. I have to compliment the other lady serving on Monday, she was smiling, pleasant and was the total opposite of the grumpy woman in charge. I’ve just read a reply that the owners of this restaurant gave another customer’s comment: “we have to insist on doing it our way” and that illustrates this premises idea of customer service to a tee. Don’t dare ask for any variation to anything on the menu, don’t attempt to move a chair, don’t attempt to enjoy yourselves or relax in any way while you eat because be sure that the “lady” owner will make sure you feel like naughty school children at worst and unwelcome guests at best. Can’t fault the food that is served but I don’t think it’s worth the tongue-lashing and uncomfortable atmosphere where everyone’s waiting to see who gets told off next... Indigestion inducing.

I go to T and Cake fairly regularly so I decided to treat my elderly grandma to lunch. We went in (with my grandma clearly struggling to walk) and were told the only seats we were allowed in the empty restaurant were right at the back. Not a big deal; we sit as instructed. The owner comes to take our order and my grandmother asks whether she can have just fish fingers and chips as opposed to the sandwich. Well, the lady did not like this. Rudely informed us that it's not on their menu but they can give it us without bread (so really, not particularly hard to do...) I ordered a sandwich. Food was fine if small for the price; but service really let them down. What does it cost to smile? To let us sit somewhere accessible? To clear our plates within 30 minutes of finishing? My grandma who doesn't get out so often was left feeling really horrible as though she had somehow upset this lady simply by entering her premises - cherry on top she then had the audacity to make a comment about tips! (My tip: learn to do your job with a smile)

Visited for the third time today, the first couple of times I visited I had my small child with me, I was made to feel like I wasn't welcome by tge female owner because I had a small child who wouldn't sit in silence and wanted to play with the selection of toys I had brought with me (i had been warned by many friends that tgey had recieved the same rude attitude when visiting with children), but in all honesty the food was lovely and the chef seemed like a nice man so I thought a visit without children would be more enjoyable ... again I couldn't fault the food but the owner of T&Cake shouldn't be in the business of having to deal with people! She was rude and abrubt and there was absolutely no warmth to her whatsoever. She has no "people skills" and doesn't deserve lovely people's custom as she has no manners and clearly cannot muster the ability to be polite to the people who visit her establishment. I won't be going back, purely because of the attitude of this horrid woman. If she decides to sell the business on and the chef decides to stay I will happily visit again.

I have been a couple of times and the first visit was good but the second and last time was a bad experience and very disappointing. I went with my daughter for brunch one Saturday morning and I was excited when I saw eggs benedict on the menu. I convinced my daughter to have it for the first time but when we got it I wish I hadn't convinced her to have it.The ingredients used were good quality and fresh but the disappointing thing was that for some reason they had put a cheesy runny sauce over the eggs and ham. I was asked if everything was ok for us and when I said that the sauce was not Hollandaise sauce but a runny cheese sauce it kicked off in front of all the other customers in the café.The lady serving went to the cook and told him what I had said and he came out of the kitchen with an upperty attitude and said in a loud voice and said we don't put cheese sauce over eggs benedict. I said that it should be Hollandaise sauce but it was deffinately cheese sauce on this. I also said it should not be thin and runny either he got even more snotty and tried to make out I did not know what I was on about. Little did he know that I did as my family have top chefs in it. We went to leave and the only good thing was that they knocked a few pounds off the bill. I will not be going back again. Attitude or what. Anyone can wear a chefs hat but it does not mean they know what they are doing. .

This is a lovely cafe right in the heart of Almondbury. I often visit when I go to see my mum. We do the shops then go here for lunch .All the food is home made and the cafe is tastefully decorated. My favourite is the all day breakfast sandwich but the quiches are also very good.I've never tried the cakes but judging by the reviews they get on trip advisor , I am clearly missing out! Will be back soon

Visited on Saturday to meet friends for brunch. We were made to wait on a settee until the whole party arrived even though there were lots of empty tables. When we were finally allowed to a table I read the menu and it stated if you had an allergy or intolerance to ask for annotated menu so you knew what you could have. I went to the desk and asked for this menu only to be told we don't do gluten free or have another menu. I was a bit embarrassed, the lady then said I could have gluten free eggs benedict. The food was ok, but pricey. I also got told off when leaving because I wanted to pay with my card. It wasn't the relaxing morning catch up with friends we'd planned and none of us will return.

This is a quaint little place, the food is good but a little on the pricey side if you have a meal the a cake. There is a wait if busy so if your in a rush it might not be for you. I will be going again but only on special occasions or for a treat.

We first moved to Almondbury 4 years ago and have had breakfast, brunch & lunch in various places however none can compare to T @ Cake, the delightful Tracy and talented Stephen couldn't be improved. A visit to T & cake for a breakfast treat is a definite family favourite, fresh local produce & real tea

We have been visiting T&Cake on a monthly basis ever since it opened in 2011, having patronised the original fine-dining restaurant the Weaver's Shed in Golcar, owned and run by Stephen and Tracy Jackson, regularly for many years previously. The new business is a small licensed cafe with eight tables, four circular and four square, seating approximately 24 customers. As well as an extensive printed menu, there is always a list of current attractions on a large blackboard, such as the daily home-made delicious soup and adventurous savouries. The cafe is effectively open (from 9.00am on weekdays) for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea but the items on the menu can be accessed at any time - we often start our breakfast with soup of the day! The premises close at 2.00pm on Saturdays and at 4.00pm on other days. Today, we opted for a special, very tasty, pulled chicken item with curd cheese, as well as a regular bacon jam on toast, with poached eggs; there are many alternatives; such as kedgeree or a breakfast bap with bacon, sausage and a fried egg, or things on toast, such as eggs, kidneys or mushrooms. Home made cakes are a must and there is a wide range of teas and coffees to be had. Stephen Jackson is the highly-rated head chef and Tracy Jackson is the source of the delightful cakes.

I am lucky that T & Cake is on my doorstep as their food is top notch!! Today I plumped for the bacon jam, poached eggs, parsley and maple syrup on toast. It was just fab!! As was the service... I'll definitely be back soon and I'm pretty sure my other half will be in on Saturday for his usual!

Visited for a snack mid afternoon but was informed by a rather officious and bordering on rude female, Kitchen was closed. Ended up with Tea for two with Cake £10 very overpriced for what was offered in a drab out dated tea room. Would think twice about a return visit.

The foods not bad,but its just way too expensive for what it actually is. The cafe is clean, but quite dark, so sitting near a window is the best bet.the waiting staff are very average and don't really talk to you much, just want to get their job done.Over all its alright.

We are regulars and really enjoy our lunches accompanied by our little doggie. The soups are fantastic, the chips brilliant and my wife drools over the pulled pork sandwich. I am also a fan of the fruit cake. Fay? our waitress last week was charming. A gem of a place.

My friend & I have visited this restaurant before but not for a while, so we decided to visit again to see if it was as good as we thought on previous visits. We were not disappointed, the service was welcoming and the food was delicious, I had the field mushrooms on toast..very tasty! as a vegetarian it is nice to have a choice other than cheese & pickle! We will definitely return..

We went a couple times before our baby girl arrived, the food was good but expensive. Since our daughter arrived we have only been the once as we were made to feel like we were in the way simply because we had a buggy and a baby. The owner can also be quite stern and overbearing making the atmosphere uncomfortable at times. If you have lots of money and no children then T & Cake might be worth a visit.

Popped in for a cup of tea and a slice of cake one afternoon.Female member of staff had a disgusting attitude and her manner was nothing short of rude. Food is ok but extremely pricey for what it is. Cake was dry but the tea was excellent.Wouldn't visit again I'm afraid. Atmosphere isn't great and the condescending rude staff make it easy to say we won't be back. I've spoken to a good few people about my experience at this place and the majority have said the same. Maybe it's time for a customer services input day for some of the staff! Sad really as has the basis for a decent tea stop in a pleasant village.

We had a wonderful lunch today. We both had a sandwich, tea and cake and it was all delicious. The restaurant was full but the food came fairly quickly. The two ladies who served us were friendly. I would very much recommend T and Cake for lunch or snack.

Nice welcome on arrival, food well presented and arrived in good time. Welsh rarebit was tasty and a v welcome addition to a menu, but £8... Wow. Of course I knew this before I ordered, but actually everything was fairly pricey. Shame, as this is a cool place, pretty stylishly decked out AND they played Lambchop, which is always a thumbs-up for me, but we just felt not particularly great value given the £8 rarely- spotted rarebit.

Visited on a Friday lunchtime, we waited a few minutes for a table to be cleared and were then shown to our table. Menus were provided and a visit to peruse the specials board resulted in us both selecting specials. My hotdog was absolutely delicious and my friend's choice of spanakopita declared equally tasty. Both dishes were beautifully presented and the side order of chips was to die for! The following chocolate brownie with ginger and chilli was worth the trip alone and the accompanying coffee fresh and hot. Service was friendly and attentive. A visit here is a must and I'll definitely be back.

Really nice local cafe with lots of cakes and treats on offer. They even do horlicks which is a rare thing these days and is gorgeous. The only thing that spoilt it was a scruffy woman who came in with her dog and sat on the sofa with it. Even though she put down a towel first, I though the dog should have sat on the floor or should have been asked to by the staff.

I like it here! For that something a little special and a superb eggs Benedict T & Cake is great. The tea choice is extensive and the cakes are impressive and all delivered with a cheery, professional though a little 'matronly' but friendly style. Looking for somewhere a little different for a great lunch with friends, family or a business meeting you should go here. The sandwiches are vast and don't forget...order the eggs Benedict!

Thought we would try this place out not impressed with the overall experience of food the Sunday dinners beef not great nor the service waiter/staff took telling over 3 times for desserts had to wait over 30 mins for just brownies in the end just had to say cancel it too much time for something that take a couple of minutes to do the next day most of the family had upset stomachs wouldn’t recommend this place unless the service of communication to the cook and food standard is more on point than mediocre presentation we were compensated some money off the desserts but even the brownies are nothing different that shop bought similarities and tight portions to say the least the differences between kids to adults sizes not by much. To say the least and the only major positive was the decor of the overall place well set out looks inviting at least.

Visited on a very busy Sunday. They don’t take cards but you can do a bank transfer which is great as my hair cut and shave cost more than I expected. Got the bigger breakfast and a latte. A little bit of a wait for the food but it’s understandable due to how busy they was. Food was good. Exactly as it should be and by the time I had finished, I was ready to fall into a food coma. Would happily go back.
