When staying at the hotel we booked a table in the restaurant for dinner. The menu was varied and food was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the restaurant was busy. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will return again.

First visit. What a beautiful place. Fabulous views. We had afternoon tea as a birthday treat for a special friend. We were looked after extremely well, we were asked where we would like to sit and chose to sit inside as it was so hot outside. Had "The Green Room" to ourselves overlooking the countryside. Afternoon tea was fabulous, lots of delicious sandwiches and cakes. Staff were attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommend

overpriced , for what we received . room was not what ordered , a twin - tiny , looked like a single room with an extra bed thrown in to make into a double , and not whta saw on the website . was told no option to change . price match not offered or given when asked , as turned out to be nearly £50 cheaper to book on the day , than in advance . Breakfast was disapponting , tiny portions on cooked or " 1 x thing of each " apppraoch and on fruit yoghurt selection , not enough available . Given platinum card meberber and spend a fair bit of money wth the hotel chain ,was surprised - sadly one of the wrst stays ever had in best western , with only the relaxed surroundings and animals the good things to speak of favourably

I’ve stayed at the hotel before, the rooms are well dated, but clean. On arrival, the welcome, was non existent!! Just a blunt women, no how are you, no nothing. She didn’t tell in which direction my room was, she was as blunt they come !! The last time I had an evening meal hear it was great, this time it was bland, Yorkshire pudding with Lincolnshire sausages, I didn’t eat them, poor quality, In fact I’m glad I could only get one night in here as it was booked up. So glad I’m staying elsewhere tomorrow night .

Had been planning to visit for some time, so when I received a two for one offer for a meal we took advantage. The offer was only on the specials, which was a choice of only 3. I chose the coq au vin which I enjoyed, my partner was not keen on pesto, or the chicken dish so was left with gammon and chips, declining the egg. Unfortunately the gammon was rock hard, even requesting a steak knife didn’t improve it. The service was great, nice and friendly and prompt. Pity the food didn’t live up to expectations. We were hoping for a nice beer on tap but these were limited. (No draught). We could have chosen from the main hotel menu, but as a weekday evening of no significance it was just an option to go out for the evening.

Stayed here last night , it was a great experience, in the afternoon the sun was out and the gardens are beautiful. Lots of garden furniture of various sorts , to sit there with a prawn sandwich and a glass of wine and chill was an absolute treat. We ate in the restaurant at night. Great range of of food on the menu and at reasonable prices. The service was excellent, we wanted for nothing. A big thank you to the young man who checked us in and out - sorry didnt get his name, but he was very knowledgeable about the hotel and you could tell he was proud to work there - and so he should be! Room was spotlessly clean and such a comfy bed. A return visit is a must!

Last night we enjoyed a lovely festive meal. The table was set beautifully, all of the food was piping hot and delicious and good portions. Lots of fresh vegetables and one of our party stated on booking that they only liked 3 certain vegetables thinking this would give them leeway on providing some of what she liked but she got all 3, very impressed. Staff were friendly and professional. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was I felt the stuffing wasn't home made, there was no bread sauce, not enough toast for the amount of pate and we didn't get a Xmas cracker - this may be due to covid? Overall a lovely meal and others that were dining from the menu, their meals looked gorgeous.

As part of our Middle England Cycling Tour, 24 cyclists dined at Sysonby Knoll Restaurant for four days. The preselected choice of menus for each of us ensured that we were served promptly each night. The menu was changed each day and the dishes on offer more than adequately catered for fussy-easters, vegetarians, pescatarians, all starving after spending their day cycling around and up the many hills of the area. The homemade food was freshly prepared, tasty and very generous. Large platters of fresh vegetables were enjoyed by all. A good choice of beers and wines at affordable prices were available to accompany our food. Considering the large number of diners, each course was served promptly and efficiently. We hope to have the opportunity to return but meanwhile a big thank you to the Sysonby Knoll Team.

My family and I dined here for both breakfast and evening meal during our stay at the hotel. The hotel had recently re opened to the public following the Covid-19 crisis so we expected meal choices to be restricted. We were however, surprised at how much choice there was given how few guests there were at the hotel. Food was delicious and well presented. Prices were very reasonable, we expected to pay more than we did for the quality of meals we got. Staff service levels were exemplary. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Sysonby Knoll restaurant and hope to visit again sometime.

Wanting somewhere to lunch in Melton I chose the Sysonby Knoll on the basis of the good reviews it had had. I was not disappointed. I am allergic to gluten, dairy and eggs but great care was taken to provide meal a meal I would (and did) enjoy. Chocolate Tiffin and iced dessert (non dairy ice cream) make a delightful change from the usual restaurant offering of sorbet. Well done Sysonby Knoll! We hope to return!

We have had several family meals here over the years, mainly Sunday lunches. These have usually been nice. This visit was for a week day lunch for two though. Rather than use the whole restaurant space half of the restaurant was closed off which meant that everyone was on top of each other making for a hot and particularly noisy atmosphere (mainly caused by two large group tables who would have been better accommodated in the area that had been closed off). Upon arrival there was nobody to be seen but luckily we knew to ring the bell on the bar. Staff greeted us well enough but it was noticeable that when more regular customers came in their greeting was much warmer. We were seated in the bar to order before finally being ushered through to our table. You'd hope that doing it this way meant only a short wait for food once seated - it didn't. Food was hot, well presented and tasted great - can't fault the food. When it came to paying there were no staff around and it seemed the done thing to go back to the bar and ring the bell again - which we did. The member of staff seemed untrained on the till, had to ask us what we had eaten and then manually enter it into the till. We did mention our drinks. However, as we were leaving, we were called back (literally shouted back) and told that she hadn't put the drinks on the bill. My mother made some off hand comment (more out of embarrassment at having been shouted at through the bar where there were other customers seated) about the bill being more than it had been when she was last there for lunch. The staff member seemed to take that as a complaint about the bill and got what I can only assume was the manager! Her mistake regarding the drinks seemed to turn into our fault - the manager (or at least more experienced member of staff) proceeded to loudly go through the bill to show us what we had spent and then proceeded to ask us if we 'were able' to pay for the drinks (as if we had somehow either refused to or said we were not able to). As my 84 year old mother had paid by card she had the card out ready to pay for the drinks but then this was a problem too as they would have to go and ask permission to take such a low payment by card (remember, this was THEIR mistake). To save more hassle I got my purse out and paid cash for the drinks. We did not even get an apology, just a 'thank you for your patience'. All this was of course watched with interest by the customers sitting in the bar. We really were made to feel like we had somehow tried to leave without paying enough! The whole atmosphere of the place was rather shabby, just like the service. We were made to feel in the wrong and left with a very bad impression of what could be a lovely place with a bit of sprucing up and some training in hospitality.

This comfortably conservative, contemporary styled establishment forms part of the Sysonby Knoll Hotel, family run, under the Great Western banner. Well located for Melton Mowbray Town Centre, it offers a peaceful haven for residents and travellers alike. Cosy and comfortable bar lounges lead to the restaurant area, overlooking pretty gardens, with bucolic vistas beyond. Service was uniformly polite, efficient, welcoming and friendly, a credit to staff and management. The lunchtime menu was varied and more than adequate. Our group of 4 only really required a light bite and we were all well pleased at our choices. My piping hot mushrooms in sherry sauce, on a wholesome toasted slice, was simply succulent. Full of unique flavour and of generous proportions, as was my wife's Bacon / Camembert & Cranberry Sandwich, with accompanying coleslaw and salad. Our friends settled for a deliciously creamy pea soup, which they declared "best ever." Postprandial coffees too, were spot on. A well stocked bar is also available Towards the upper end of the "pub grub" spectrum, the bill represented good value and we departed comfortably replete and well satisfied. Well done all concerned.

This was a second visit to Sysonby, having last come in February for a special birthday lunch. As soon as we arrived a young lady greeted us as we were seated in the lounge area and I informed her that we had pre- booked a table .She gave us all a menu and took our drinks order . We were given a table which had a lovely outlook onto the garden. After our orders were taken we had 3 delicious meals of two seafood linguine and scampi, chips and peas for mum. Everything was piping hot and it was very tasty and very generous portions. When the plates were cleared away we were offered a good choice of puddings and Mum and I opted for lemon mousse and my sister ordered the strawberries and cream and these puddings also came with a generous slice of homemade shortbread.I have to say the lemon mousse was absolutely delicious! To finish with we requested a tray of tea out in the very pretty patio/ gardens.A lovely meal out and Mum enjoyed it very much as she is mainly housebound. We will definitely visit again.

Our first visit to a restaurant in our new home town, and, having been 'spoilt' by the fare in and around Plymouth, I must admit I was expecting something to equal it, especially after reading excellent reviews. The staff were excellent, as was the decor, the cleanliness and the atmosphere. Maybe it was 'just me', but I found the scallop starter to be lacking something ... the scallops themselves were well cooked, but the accompanying 'leaves' and lentils did nothing to enhance the dish in my opinion. The main of fillet beef in a filo parcel looked very appetising, but I felt the wrapping of spinach was detrimental to the dish as it was over flavoured with garlic, which took away any taste of beef, and the other ingredients. It wasn't all bad though, the roulade dessert was scrummy! As I said, perhaps I was having an 'off day?' And the surroundings and staff made up for my disappointment. The only other gripe was that I believed a window seat would give a view of the river which was close-by, unfortunately it didn't, but the garden looked lovely. I intend to return at some point and give the restaurant another chance, hopefully I may be feeling more hungry on that day.

We had a wonderful time and I had no hesitation in giving very positive feedback to the Manager. My booking was dealt with very efficiently - I had one or two specific requirements (Mum has some physical problems, and I knew I was also going to be limited on what I could eat with an impending hospital procedure). There was a good car park, and I dropped off Mum and my sister at the entrance before parking my car. The staff were wonderful - very friendly and efficient. We were taken through to the bar area where we made our menu choices over a lunchtime drink.Nice comfortable chairs in a lovely restaurant with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. The standard of service was excellent - we were very well looked after.Delicious food - we all agreed we had not eaten such a lovely meal for some time. And the staff could not have been more helpful - I had to make one or two food requests for extras and alternatives due to my medical needs and I was accommodated without any problem. Visited here twice. Once for a funeral and the other for a Club annual dinner. Food was good on both occasions, helpful staff, bar facilities good, comfortable surroundings and reasonably priced. There is a nice patio garden to sit in during the summer months. The only downside are the parking arrangements. It is situated on a very busy main road which means you have to use the hotel's car park which gets extremely full on busy days. On both occasions we had difficulty squeezing in somewhere! Other than that, would recommend a visit.

I feel a little guilty about this message because previous visits to Sysonby Knoll Hotel were a pleasure. Sadly this one failed because of the food. My sister ordered the Sea Bass and had a side salad, which had a big clump of mud. This could be forgiven as salads are made from fresh ingredients, although the staff appeared insulted by my sister asking for a new salad, and no compensation was given, (having the salad knocked off the bill would of been a nice gesture). Worse still was my grandma ordered the battered fish that was frozen on the inside. This was disapointing because it indicated that the dish is delivered frozen to the premises and not battered on site. We won't be going back.

Our family visited the restaurant at Sysonby Knoll today for my great aunt's Birthday.Upon entering the hotel reception, the facilities are very clean, there is a lovely cosy atmosphere and the decor feels luxurious.Usually when a large group of people go out for dinner, there are a few problems, however, we had none and everything went smoothly from start to finish.I had cod goujons to start with the most delicious tartare sauce I have ever tasted! My starter was followed by spinach and ricotta cannelloni which was okay although VERY creamy and no tomato sauce added. The desserts were lovely, I had Apple pie and ice cream and also tried a little of the Chocolate and Baileys cheesecake and the Chocolate and Cherry Roulade which were fabulous. Our meals came from a set menu, this cost £15 per head and I feel that this was a fantastic price as I would have been happy to pay more than double that for the quality of the food we received. The portion sizes were great too!The staff were very accommodating and there was a nice feeling throughout the restaurant.I would definitely return to the hotel and restaurant again, as would I recommend it to others. I'm looking forward to trying some more of the dishes on the menu!

I dined at sysonby knoll with a friend, who is a seasoned restaurant go-oer,we both found it a really good experience ,the staff were helpful and friendly, the choice of food was good, and very tasty, with a very pleasant dinning room over looking gardens, the hotel rooms look very tastefully decorated, and are good value, one criticism is lunch is only served until 1.45, apart from that no complaints, will definetly go again

I met a couple of friends at the hotel last week for lunch. We had drinks in the bar while choosing our meals and our table in the dining room looked over a well-tended garden. We found the staff very friendly and, even though we sat talking over coffee, we didn't feel pressured to move. The meal was excellent. My friends had seafood linguini which contained plenty of fish in a creamy sauce. I had a beef and ale casserole which came with a light and tasty Stilton scone (wonderful for mopping up the gravy), little new potatoes, carrots, broccoli and ratatouille. My friends had tiramisu and meringue roulade respectively for dessert. Although I didn't try either there were plenty of satisfied sounds! When we finally called for the bill we were amazed at how reasonable it was. All in all a great experience all round.

Fabulous home cooked food in a very comfortable setting. The portions were hearty and the variety was good. I had the goat's cheese frittata, friends had chicken, gammon, roast leg of lamb or fish pie. The food was piping hot and the vegetables were at no extra cost. Fabulouos roast potatoes won me vote! Puds were typically ladies who lunch varieties - brulee, roulade and ice creams. Will certainly return

I chose this Hotel as a halfway point to meet my sister via a dog friendly hotel book. From my first enquiry the staff were very helpful and considerate of our requirements. Restaurant booking confirmed by email at my request. On arrival we were greeted and our dog welcomed. Coffee was immediately available and the Lunch Menu provided for a wide range of choice for all appetites. The quality of food and service were excellent. We were able to stay in the bar and lounge for the afternoon with tea available before we left - unfortunately we had eaten too much at lunch and were unable to avail ourselves of scones, cake and pastries!! A treat for next time as we will certainly visit again. So pleased we found this efficient, friendly and comfortable place to meet and look forward to our next visit.

The food was fine but not even luke warm, possibly because served on cold plates. When complained was told that nobody else had (British reserve ?) However, did receive a generous reduction.

Excellent service, Good size portions. Nice homemade food. The only thing that let them down is that they didn't do hand cut chips which I think is a must for a A La Carte Menu.

We stayed one night recently and upgraded to the 4 poster room - absolutely beautiful room, bathroom brand new and spacious, four poster bed - magnificent! We chose to dine in the retaurant on the evening...thought the menu read very well but sadly the food was disappointing and was overpriced for what it was. The restaraunt seemed very popular with the older generation so maybe it caters for that with a view of if it works don't change it but sadly we were disappointed. The wine list however was good and the poor meal did not spoil what was otherwise a lovely stay, staff were great, very helpful and friendly. I've rated excellent for special occasions and romance based on the hotel, not restaurant!

This is a terrific place to dine. The food is always good, with generous portions and is traditional English in style. Very wholesome. It is a family friendly place with lovely staff. I cannot vouch for the rooms, but I am told they are very clean and comfortable.

Went for Sunday lunch with family I have rated this restaurant as average but I believe the overall experience to be below average, but better than poor. The reception and restaurant areas are in desperate need of a refurbishment. The main restaurant is especially drab with old cane furniture, nicotine coloured walls and dusty artificial flowers which are the same colour as the walls and furnitureThe food was "all right" ~ the main complaint being that the beef was that awful bought-in thinly sliced beef. Some of our party only wanted 2 courses but unfortunately that wasn't an option which I think is very bad Wouldn't recommend / return to Sysonby Knoll Restaurant

We were staying at the hotel and ate both nights at the restaurant. It obviously isn't fine dining, but it is very nice and the food is fantastic. They also have this great system where you order at the bar where you enjoy a few drinks before dinner, and then seat you as the meal is ready. Really nice little restaurant and friendly staff, very homely fel to it.

The food is home cooked from scratch with plenty of fresh vegetables and delicious desserts. The staff are friendly and efficient and the owners always welcoming. The location is beautiful by the River Eye and has good views of river and open fields.

Our group of ladies were well treated ( one of us arrived very late and there was no fuss to make us order without her). In fact, service was excellent. We all ate different dishes and all enjoyed our meals. We now think this may also be the Christmas venue for our get- together!
