This is the only place that serves warmed-up chips from days before, judging by the mess I received. It doesn't matter what time of day, they always catch me out. The counter is so high, that you cannot see what is being served. I nearly came back and threw them back.

Popped in for lunch with as in the area & know many people really rate this chippy. All been refurbished & looked very professional & clean. Prices a little on the higher side but thought I'd have a treat. Sorry I bothered, the Fish was more batter than fish & not atall tasty. Also got Chips peas & gravy - the peas were still hard & as the gravy was put on top, once got to chips underneath the peas they had no gravy on & were dry & didn't taste the best. Waste of over £10. (Fish £4.90. Chips peas gravy £5.20!!!!) Don't think I'll bother again unfortunately.

Me and my friend had the Cod and Chips with smashed Peas, big portion, excellent taste, woman who waited on us was so pleasant, we had to order to go, no place to sit and eat. Close to where my friend lives so we decided to give it a try. Definitely must try. Would go back again. 😊

Chips were cold and the sausages were cold and undercooked. The cold food might be due to do with the staff chatting to each other all the time. Award winning chippy I think there must’ve been awarded themselves first place.

The main focus of this chip shop is to supply its takeaway trade, they disposed of the dine in option, I recently popped in, served me a burnt dried pie, which I binned, mentioned it the week after to a staff member, said “ oh sorry” so I’ve found the best fish and chip shop in Manchester called hills in Middleton,

There is no doubt that this establishment is a very professional set up very clean and good personal service. However I believe that this business is trading on local loyalties. I live close to this establishment and to date have never used it. So based on local opinion I decided take a much anticipated visit to the take away. First impressions were very good fantastically clean and hygienic, with well presented friendly staff I decided to order, large haddock, chips and peas, with a side of black pudding fritter. I was really looking forward to my fried treat . However when I got my meal home,I was so disappointed at first glance on opening the box,all looked good on moving the content round the box I found lots of scrappy chips in the bottom of the box which were mainly hard and inedible, the fish was passable non greasy and crisp in part. The meal cost me close to £11, frankly the best part of the meal was a black pudding fritter which cost £1,was the highlight of the meal. Very disappointing experience, I'll think hard before I repeat the experience.

I absolutely slaughtered Sykes on Google a few weeks ago as I was kept waiting in a very short queue whilst all the Uber Eats and Just Eat drivers who were constantly arriving cleared the shelves of virtually everything. However, whether the owner took my criticism on board I'll never know but suffice to say they've ripped the shop apart and done a great job on the refurb with the delivery drivers now having their own counter and staff and Joe Public having their own counter too, so now the service is back to being as quick as it used to be. Bravo - 5 Stars!

Looked fwd to a chippy lunch & not been to Sykes for ages. Prices have hiked somewhat but they have everywhere. Food was decent enough & plentiful portion but found staff quite off-hand - Messed up my order but then was huffing & puffing as I politely corrected them - if they'd have listened correctly in first instance! Not very good customer service.

I used to come to this chippy on my lunch break sometimes many years ago when I worked in the area for the madras & chips. We don’t live in the area, we live 8 miles away & I have been telling my fiancé about the madras for years & never got around to going. £7 for a portion these days, used to be £3.50 10 years ago, I appreciate inflation so the cost wasn’t a problem, but I was really disappointed when opening the box - the portion of chips was less than a full size portion you would get on its own & my god the MADRAS?? It’s an offence to call it such a thing! It was a very bland, tasteless curry sauce with absolutely no heat to it whatsoever with what looked like not even a third of a chicken breast shredded in it. Oh & to top it off the whole thing wasn’t even warm. God knows how they managed that when the phone order wasn’t even ready to collect & it was made up in front of us. Safe to say we won’t be going again which is a shame as this was one of the best around back in the day.

Been here a few times, and wouldn't recommend the curry sauce's, the rice is hanging. If you only want fish n chips, then your good to go. THE MANAGER IS THE MOST TIGHT FISTED, I'VE SEEN THE STAFF PEELING THE XMAS DECORATIONS OFF THE WINDOWS AND BACK ONTO THE TEMPLATE FOR NEXT YEAR. The staff are overworked, now deliveroo has taken over, nobody knows who's order is who's. Waited nine minutes for just fish n chips. as who ever took my order, pissed off round the back and nobody knew what I ordered. Never again.

This used to be one of the best chippys in Manchester. Not been for a few years now and it's changed , and not for the good. It used to have a sit down area inside but this is now gone leaving more room to queue inside rather than out of the door. Unfortunately there is no menu round the corner of the new layout so you can only decide what to order when you reach the till which then holds people up behind you. I ordered haddock and small chips and a carton of gravy. The fish was tough and chewy , not like haddock should be and the batter wasn't the best. The chips were tiny scrapings and the gravy tasted of fat rather than gravy. To top it all off the box it came in was so large it wouldn't fit in my microwave to reheat when I got it home so I had to scrape it all off onto a plate and there was no cutlery provided either meaning more washing up I didn't need. If you want proper fish and chips then I recommend Mother Hubbards just down the road. For the same price you get a much larger portion of fish and chips that is fantastic quality ( and still fits into a microwave friendly box ) , gravy like you've never tasted before. Free cutlery and a free can of drink. Sykes is still very popular but people need to try elsewhere for that Friday chippy tea

NO CHIPS. Even calling the shop, they will accuse you of not reading, while they just misleading you to pay good money for a simple piece of cod WITHOUT ANY sauces, chips or salt.

Not been here to eat in for ages so rang to check they still do it. Spoke to a lovely lady, Gail, who told me they closed the dining area at 4.30 . Since nephew getting haircut at 4.00 thought we couldn't go but Gail said she would book the 3of us in at 4.30, how kind was that? Staff really welcoming , plenty of choice for children and my sister and I both had haddock . Wow! The size of them! Staff member commented that she wasn't sure the order was for us as she had only seen 2 small ladies arrive 😅 We cleared our plates, everything was delicious and nephew enjoyed his tea time treat. Cannot fault anything, will definitely go back, very reasonable for what we had too. What's not to like? Well worth a visit .

I don't think you could ever get a bad meal here. There is a reason it's in the Top 50 chippies in the UK. It's just so good. You must try the steak gravy. It's the best thing you could put on chips

Nice atmosphere with a big screen and some games machines. Friendly staff and service too. Beer decent and food was ok, lost a 'star' from the rating due to the prices being too high. But recommended.

We go to Lowries as a family every Saturday morning and have done for several years. The food has always been perfect and in all the time we have been there for breakfast we have never had a complaint. The staff are excellent, always very attentive, courtious and helpfull. We are a party of between six and ten people, usually with a couple of babies and or older children but we always feel they do their best to accommodate us with the seating arrangements. Thank you so much Lowry's.
