We went with friends and family to celebrate our daughters 18th birthday. As always, the service was great for food and drink, not having to wait even though it was so so busy. The staff and manager always helpful and asking if there is anything else needed.

Had a lovely meal on a weekday evening - really recommend the halloumi and sweet chilli kebab! All of our food and drinks were quickly delivered to our table and the food was delicious. The staff were very friendly and kind, making us feel welcome. Will definitely return again!

I did find a plastic in the chicken. Did complain to Menager and show him the plastic what I find but looks like he is don’t care.

Went in for something to eat after a long days driving. Just passing on the way home and thought why not stop and eat. Was a bit busy for as it was a saturday evening. Bar staff friendly and very helpful. Order for at the bar and wait about 15 mins before food avarived. Nice and hot plates. Food was good and great priced. Kitchen staff were helping bar staff out. Great place. Will be going again.

Had a really enjoyable day at the messenger, having a few beers with friends. Staff were friendly and efficient even though they were under pressure as it was busy. I was still served in a very quick time and enjoyed a great tasting pint. Would definitely recommend to others!

Such a lovely pub, perfect staff. We used to go to the Merlin on match days, but had a few unwelcoming experiences. We have found our new pre match eats and drinks venue! Great staff, lovely food, all round excellence

We went for our usual Boxing Day Christmas lunch with friends. After a warm welcome from the staff and a bit of banter, we were shown to our table. Enjoying our wine until the first course arrived, which wasn’t very long. The pub was very busy and we were asked if we were happy to wait a little while between courses. Which was absolutely fine. The main course arrived on very hot plates, it was hot, well presented and very tasty. Being quite full after our dinner, we asked the staff if we could wait a little while before our desserts were served. They were fine about that! After our desserts, we finished our wine, then sat chatting to them all for a while. For a pub that serves food, it was excellent. The price we paid for a three course Christmas dinner was about as good as it gets. It was brilliant. Thank you all for making our Boxing Day special.

After going to the messenger for Christmas dinner for the second year running what can I say, could not fault it the 3 course meal we had was superb, the staff superb , yet again I can’t thank Nigel and his staff enough for nice meal and friendlyness keep the good job up and see we you for the third year running for Christmas dinner next year we’ll done

I'd like to praise the staff here- it must often be a thankless task serving large groups of people when the pre-ordering becomes confused and participants can't remember what they were having.... today, in such a group, everyone serving kept a smile, tried hard to sort out mistakes not of their making, and did their best to ensure we enjoyed our Christmas lunch on the nicely set table. Thank you.

Had a meeting, then went for lunch at the Messenger, which had been recommended to me. I had a great meal of burger and fries. Whilst eating my lunch, I overheard the banter between the landlord and some of his customers. It sounded great and would be enjoyable as a local. I would recommend it as it had a great atmosphere. Well done to the landlord and his team.

Went for lunch today and decided to try something different! I ordered chick and mix, my husband ordered a burger. It was delicious! We ordered drinks, had a chat and a lot of banter with Nigel and his team as always, before our meals arrived. The meals were presented nicely on hot plates, a must for us! They were well cooked and very tasty. My chick and mix was amazing, I hadn’t ordered it for a long time but I shall certainly order it again soon. My husband said that he thoroughly enjoyed his burger too. The atmosphere is pleasant and for a sports bar, it’s not too noisy for us! We enjoyed it and will going in again on Friday for fish and chips 👍 Well done Nigel and your team

Never been here before but it was recommended to me by another pub I was in last week so thought I’d give it a try. I always have burgers when I go out so tried something new and the katsu curry at the messenger is DEFINITELY worth trying! The manager served me, he was super welcoming and was hilarious, great sense of humour. Thanks messenger! We’ll be back

Visited for Sunday lunch with friends, food beautiful, very good portions, excellent value for money. Recommend the roast turkey, beautifully cooked and nice selection of vegetables. Lovely friendly bar staff and drinks amazing value and charging realistic prices unlike many other pub chains. Will definitely return.
