Whilst visiting my son and his family we went greyhound racing at Swindon one Saturday morning. It was the first time my 6 year old granddaughter and 2 and a half grandson had ever been to a meeting, my granddaughter loved watching the dogs whilst my grandson was more interested in his bacon sandwich. The stadium is run down but was talking with several greyhound owners and over the far side they have already begun to build a new stadium

Seems a bit run down and could've had a far better atmosphere e.g. playing music or having some fun things to do in the waits in between. Other than that, it was good fun. We didn't bet but it was nice to watch the greyhounds racing. Thanks for a good time! :)

If anybody bets at this track they are crazy. They have a computer making sure you don't win. They place money on selections after the race is over. Did you ever notion the price always goes down on the winner on the last flash. I will show you some screen shots tomorrow.

The place is very run down, we did a groupon deal to visit having never been to see the greyhounds race before. It included a burger and a drink. Chicken burger was great and a soft drink or carlsberg or wkd. There are 2 bars, indoor seating area and two totes. There us a separate fast food restaurant and a separate sit down restaurant. We had such a fun evening watching the dogs & betting on them. Cheap bets if you chose to - to win and place from a £1 - I would visit again really enjoyable.

We chose to go to Swindon Greyhound track because our local one at Poole was closed down. I still don't understand the reason for that and after seeing the outside of Swindon's I reallly can't understand the decision. the outside of the stadium is currently on a building site. The road entrance is diabolical and entire stadium looks like it should be demolished. The restaurant got colder as the evening went on and the drafts came through the windows. Many people were eating with their coats on. I chose to have a pint of bitter and it came with a fly in it. From the moment we were served our starter, we knew the food was not going to be much better either. Turkey dry, Green Beans & Parsnips overcooked, Sprouts under cooked, Roast Potatoes ok, Pig in blanket ok. Stuffing and gravy ok, Don't get me wrong, it was edible and ok if you had cooked it at home for your family. When I dine out, I gauge the meal against what I could cook at home. I'm not a good cook but I definitely could have done far better than what were given. The greyhound racing itself was excellent. The atmosphere in the place was good and people seemed to be enjoying themselves. We chose to go outside, down next to the track, for the last race. The entire stadium, ground and all, looked like it had been closed and neglected for the last 50 years but opened up for that evening. This is a real shame and I can't believe they shut Poole down and kept this open. Can't fault the staff. They came across very good, considering what they had to work with.

Went with my family for a night out and a meal. £23 each for a 3 course meal. On arrival met with a smile and drinks arrived straight away. I had the pate to start with some white hard bread and no quality. Main I had pasta which was a sloppy mess in a bowl. £18.50 for a bottle of wine ouch. The restaurant was something out of the 1970s that was worn out and dirty the view of the dog track was a building site with a dog track in between. On a positive the staff were friendly and helpful the guys taking the bets all great and efficient.

I visited Swindon dogs on 6th July as a group of 20 friends & family. We had 2 tables with the 3 course meal & could watch the racing & place bets from our table. The place is pretty shabby but the service was quick and drinks reasonably priced. Food very mediocre- the roasts were way better than the stifado & rice I ordered. It started as an entertaining evening but all felt a bit tacky. The last race finished me, literally. About 20 metres out of the traps a dog fell. The race was stopped as the dog sat up and tried to drag itself off the track with its front paws, but it was clear its back legs & pelvis were paralysed. There was a stunned silence in the room while, just for good measure, they replayed the start video on the 100s of TV screens so we could all see this poor animal collapse again. I was devastated and couldn’t wait to get out of there. The next day I emailed the venue to ask about the dog and have given them a month to respond before leaving this feedback, but nothing. I have no doubt that poor dog did not survive the night. Worst night’s “entertainment” ever. If I go there again it will be to join the protesters outside!

Went last night for 3 course meal and greyhound racing. Had a table next to the window so we could watch all the races from a warm dry area. We had race cards with all 14 races and an explanation at the front of how to bet. A lady regularly came along to take our bets so didn't have to move from our seats. Our lady was very polite and socialable. Excellent service. Would have been nice if you had a name badge to personalise it further. Did have Diane Gibbs on receipts so unsure if this was her. Had a choice of 4 starters, soup, prawn rolls, pate and another one. Choice of lots of mains including chicken in bacon and stilton sauce. Very moist chicken and sauce was excellent. It came with new potatoes and veg. There was also fish choice, pasta parcels, pork loins and other choices. Dessert was white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake which I felt was tasteless. My partner had syrup sponge pudding with custard which was excellent. There was also cheese and biscuits and chocolate fudge cake. All in all a brilliant night and looking forward to the next one.

Had a great night out with friends - we chose the 3 course restaurant option. Such good value for money. We contacted them a couple of weeks before to enquire about gluten free and vegan options (they have lots of gluten and dairy free options on the menu but not vegan). They went out of their way to make sure I had super delicious food - I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. The mojito’s were good too. Very good waitress service for food and drinks and they also come to the table to take your bets and bring your winnings!

First timer! It was one of the best nights out I've ever had. Bought Groupon voucher £10 4 2 people. Burger, drink and betting card. Burger was gorgeous The staff were very friendly and helpful. We soon picked up what we had to do,which made the evening go with a swing. The atmosphere was brilliant! Yes the building is a bit tired, but who cares, your there for the racing. If there was a zero rating that’s what I would have given this place. The food service was an absolute joke, inept staff lacked any level of customer service skills, they could not keep up with demand and seemed to have no system at all, no sense of urgency and I witnessed some of the worst food hygiene practices ever! This place was a disaster and they need to get rid of the staff and start again. The bar service was slow too and the toilet floors were swimming in urine all evening. Nasty nasty place.

We have been going for years and is a great night out for a bargain price of 10.00 for two, which includes admission, race card , drink each and a burger. The only thing they have changed from a few years ago is before you could have a choice of a chicken burger or a beef burger but for some reason you can only have a chicken burger which is disappointing as we all prefer beef burger . We went as a group of friends for a fun night out and that's what we had. The set price restaurant meal included the admission price. The facilities are so tired looking but just go with it. the starters and main course were terrible (we had either bruschetta or duck pancakes to start but I really can't recommend either. And I really would avoid the beef stifedo - it tasted horrible) anyway the puddings were nice and the staff were attentive - especially the Tote girls who came to the table to take your bets. The meal is cheap so I suppose you get what you pay for but as long as you go with low expectations of the food you won't be disappointed. It's a cheap night out and you are there for the dog racing anyway not the food. You can do a £1 bet if you want to which is lower than at the horse races. The programme explains all the betting combinations and on a trio forecast that cost us £1.50 we won £45 - so happy days. It's a low budget fun night out and there is a premier inn just over the road so you can have a few drinks and stay over for about £40 per room.

Apart from the venue being dirty and run down the staff are the most miserable and rude people I have seen in a customer service role ever. It's almost as like they are doing you a favour being there not you are doing them a favour by keeping them in work. The drinks are expensive £4.50 for a wine which comes in a plastic glass. My advice is save your money and go to the horses or to a nice bar for half the price with pleasant staff and real glass glasses !

A waiter then came and took our meal orders. It was a 3 course meal, and there were menus on each table. The food was very good, and I had Lamb Kebabs, followed by Beef Stifado both of which were tasty, and well cooked. A desert was also included in the meal. The biggest issue I had was what to wear! Having never been before I was advised it's not a classy joint more of a football shirt/track suit kinda place. Because of this I wasn't expecting the food to be that great but I'm pleased to say it wasn't too bad. Good portion sizes, cheap and tasty. Don't expect the Ritz but for £12 you can't really complain. My only criticism would be we were kept waiting for a long time, well over an hour to be asked what we would like, each time we asked we were told "in a minute" although once our orders were taken the food came fast. Dog racing was fun. Thank you to Barry for putting up with our drunken stupidness and explaining the different types of bets. Would definitely go again

I've been to Swindon greyhound stadium more times than I can remember, the most recent was a trip with friends in July 2014, this was the first time I'd eaten in the restaurant.First up as a night out the racing is always good fun and value, you can normally find a deal that'll get you in for free or a small fee with free drink and bet included. I'd managed to get into the restaurant with a 3 course meal for £12.50 (usually £17.50) so look out for deals. What can you do? Well you're at a dog track what do you think :) You don't have to be into dog racing or a seasoned gambler to enjoy yourself (even if you've never been), it makes a nice night out from the norm where you can drink and chat with friends and the chance of winning (or losing!) some money. You'll get a race card on entry which lists the races and runners but more importantly tells you how to place different bets and what the form means so you don't feel silly when it comes to putting a bet on (if in doubt just put £1 onto win every time!). There are about 10 races in total spaced 15 mins apart so if you want a small flutter it need not break the bank. Given how frequent the races are the time will fly by.If you're not in the restaurant you can choose to stand trackside next to the action or prop up a table in the bar. There are plenty of kiosks to put your bets from 25p or if you're a little more serious you can use the independent book makers at a minimum £5 per bet. There is even a fast food stand serving basket meals again you can get deals with these thrown in.So about the restaurant! Having never been in it before I was really impressed. We we're sat down with window seats and a great view of the action (larger groups over 4 were was back a bit but raised so still a great view), we had table service included for our food , drinks and even someone coming around taking our bets (and paying out!), we literally never had to leave our seats apart from the toilet breaks and one occasion where we waited a little too long for our beer! Service alone would have justified the price, but you get a 3 course meal to book. OK it's not fine dining but for the price you can't help be impressed. You get a choice of 3 or 4 starters and mains from soup, mozzarella sticks for starter to curry or creamy peppered chicken for main (can't remember the full menu sorry!). Desert was a choice of profiteroles, sticky toffee pudding , cheesecake or cheese board. All the food was cooked well, warm, appeared fresh and tasted good I couldn't fault it for the price. Food alone it'd probably be a 3 star but you're not going for the sit down meal experience that's not what it's about, if you want a great night out with friends for a great price and food then give it a try.I'll be back there again and will definitely go back to the restaurant when I do.

Swindon Greyhound Stadium is antiquated and is due to be rebuilt commencing later this year. The venue has a popular restuarant which is well supported. Dog Racing can be viewed from inside all year round but when the weather is good you get more of an atmospere viewing from the terraces. In bad eather towards the later part of the season the terraces can be very cold so a good coat is needed. There is ample car parking within close proximity of the stadium with no more than 400mtrs to walk dependant upon where you park. Access for the disabled is limited to thre lower level and terraces so it is adviseable to wrap up warm.Food in the restuarant is of good quality and always hot. There is a good variety available but do not expect Jamie Oliver standards.

There was a good choice on the menu with the roast beef being outstanding. A friendly member of staff will take your bets at your table and not raise an eyebrow if you're only betting 50p! I think the only downside is that they insist you ring to book a table and pay a £10 per person deposit or the full amount there and then. You need to be certain that your plans don't change between the booking and the event.

Four of us booked a meal in the restaurant at the greyhound stadium for a Saturday night. Didn't get off ot the best of starts as we had a letter confirming our booking for the saturday but the tickets stated it was for the previous friday. After queuing for about 15 mins for them to open (lucky it was dry!) the lady on reception initally refused us admission. Having paid £25 each we were not going to be denied - we pointed out our receipt and she pointed out the tickets (incidentally it is cheaper to go on a friday). She made a call to the restaurant who confirmed that we did have reservations for the saturday - did she apologise? no, just grumpily let us in!!). Once inside the restaurant we were shown to our seats - almost immediately they wanted to take our food and drinks order!! With almost an hour to go before the racing started we declined to order at that time and the young lad was rather put out about it - and showed it!! About 20 mins later a young lady returned and asked if we would like to order, which we did. The service was a little rushed all evening, but the food was first class and apart from the hiccups at the start a throughly enjoyable evening was had.

The queue to get in was lengthy and as such it took about 20 mins stood out in the rain before we got in the stadium itself; not a good start. Furthermore, Friday 13th lived up to expectations......the rain got inside the mechanism of the rabbit and so there was nothing for the greyhounds to chase; race meeting abandoned. The restaurant was pretty busy but not stacked and whilst the drinks order didn't take too long the food order did. (Note to manager: get more staff taking orders please as there were a lot of waiters stood around doing nothing for long periods and only one girl taking food orders). Once we ordered our food though it arrived quite promptly and it was very nice indeed; very tasty. The menu choices and offer is MUCH improved from past experiences which to be quite frank were awful...... Well done Chef on a lovely meal, really enjoyed it. Once we had just finished our main course we were told that the race meeting had been abandoned; not that it had ever started......Slightly hacked off that they waited until we had finished our main before calling the meeting off but I guess they didn't want to waste the food and send the staff home early. Nice meal out, but disappointing that there wasn't any racing.

I organised an evening at the dogs for colleagues and tagged along. Great value dinner at £12.50 for three courses, very entertaining evening out, would do it again!

Great fun! Would highly recommend for a cheap night out.Food is standard burgers/hotdog/chips on the food stand but there is a fully licenced bar. There is also a restaurant but we didn't eat there so can't comment.A really enjoyable evening for all ages!

Settled in at the abbey for a 3 course meal and a night of betting on the dogs, the food was much better than anticipated, to be honest, can't find fault with it. Nice starter, very good main course and the dessert was great. If u want to try something different, win loads of money on the dogs and have great food and a great atmosphere!

Friendly and warm greeting. Coffee was good. Inviting menus. Breakfasts looked good. Attention to detail required. Dirty tables first thing on a Monday morning and shelving!!

Probably one of the better pubs in Wanborough, not overcrowded but busy. The Sunday lunch was of good quality, well presented, good value and the staff excellent. Parking straightforward with a large outside space for children to play. Well worth a visit,

Once again Carol shows her skills with this homemade Chicken pie.... well I say chicken, also bacon mushroom and leeks with a puff pastry lid... we both ordered it with veg mash and gravy and on a chilly Autumn evening it absolutely hit the comfort food spot ... a great big hug of a plate...

It is a very hit and miss restaurant. Sometimes you cannot fault the meal next time you go it is awful . We used to go twice a week but not again . No bread no fish of any kind including scampi . The all day breakfast cold . The employee said sooty about that !
