You pay for what you get basically. The price point is cheap for a Japanese restaurant but the quality is average.

My partner and I went to Sushimania Reading, after having moved here and having a great experience at St. Albans. My word were we wrong, we weren’t even shown to a table, we were just waived to one and then waited for 10 minutes until I had to wave down a waiter to ask for the all you can eat. Food came and was absolutely fine The issue is the service charge and rude manager who has a go at you. The receipt is presented to you with “discretionary service charge” which if we check the definition of discretionary it’s “available for use at the discretion of the user” Asked the waiter to remove it and they tried to keep it on, then the manager came over huffing and puffing about it, saying they had to up prices due to cost of everything, which is fine… up your menu price. They kept shouting and trying to bully me in, at no point did I raise my voice but they made the point to go “this is what we call having an adult discussion” whilst being berated. This has truly, through and through, ruined our experience and we will not ever be retuning. Manager, if you’re reading this, get a grip mate. It’s a service charge that goes to the wait staff, either pay them properly or put up the actual price, don’t make the customers have to pay your issues. Finally, stop being rude. It’s discretionary, doesn’t matter what your paper says, the receipt says discretionary, there for I can remove it. Went on to whine saying “if you don’t want to pay service charge don’t go to restaurant” - no, the point of wait staff is literally to carry my food from the kitchen to my table, what more do they even do? The only difference between Wetherspoons (where there is no service charge) and Sushimania is the fact is you serve sushi. Will be reporting this to HMRC as this all feels a little suspicious

The attitude of the staff, particularly the elderly man with the grey hair is awful. Tried to add charges onto the bill, when questioned he threatened to call the police. We are both of Mexican descent and were speaking Spanish - and I can only assume these charges were added due to racism. The drinks are sold as well know brands, such as coke/sprite etc - when they arrive you will soon realise they are watered down and cheap versions of the advertised brands.

Disappointing Service Overshadowed by Great Food! I recently had the opportunity to dine at Sushimania with a group of colleagues, and while the food was genuinely excellent—fresh and flavorful—the service we received was concerning and disappointing. After calling ahead to reserve a table for 15, I was told to walk in due to a 50% discount on the à la carte menu. Upon arrival, we were informed that a table for our group was available. However, when two of my colleagues arrived with their infants in strollers, there was no assistance from the staff to help them navigate the establishment. This lack of support was surprising and unacceptable, especially considering the circumstances. When we requested the menu, we were provided with a barcode for the à la carte options but noticed a promotion for an unlimited menu. Upon inquiring about this option, the manager's attitude shifted noticeably. Instead of providing clear information, he began raising his voice while moving between tables, which created a tense atmosphere. Additionally, he insisted on taking our orders without properly explaining the choices available. While I understand that managing a busy restaurant can be challenging, the behavior exhibited by the manager was unprofessional and detracted from what could have been an outstanding dining experience. I urge Sushimania to address these service issues, as they could significantly improve customer satisfaction and overall experience. Thank you for considering this feedback.

I think that sushimania is something of a hidden gem! Overall pleasant, peaceful atmosphere. Extensive menu with a variety of interesting options. I highly recommend all vegetable sushi , kimchi sushi, and Crispy salmon. I would not get the futomaki again, as I felt it was underfillded with Prawn, compensating with too much rice. Servers could be more attentive - you often have to approach the bar to get their attention. Saying that, some may prefer the introverted experience. The process of ordering the food was confusing at first. I have yet to try the bottomless, I feel that a couple plates is plenty. I'd still recommend sushimania for some good value, delicious sushi!! ☆😸☆

My recent visit to Sushimania in Reading was a complete letdown due to the dismal management and service. The staff seemed utterly disorganized, leading to an overall chaotic atmosphere. It was evident that the management lacked proper training and oversight, resulting in a subpar dining experience. And they make a service charge for the dismal services. Additionally, the servers were inattentive and indifferent to customer needs, further adding to the frustration. My go-to place in Reading, and the best buffet place in the UK I have been so far. Most buffet places tend to provide a variety of average or low quality food, but Sushimania cooks every dish to a high standard when ordered, which makes it unique. It is only 26.80 pp and you can get sashimi, unlimited sushi, prawn tempura etc. Make sure you try prawn and oyster tempura when you are there. They are the best on the earth. Last, but not least, you do not get MSG syndrome in Sushimania like other buffet places. Their dishes are lightly salted, and more of the natural taste. :)

Sushi mania has been one of my go tos for years. With the cost of living crisis, I was expecting the prices to have raised significantly for all you can eat - but they are still affordable (around £25 + 10% service fee) We love coming for all you can eat. This used to be done on paper but now you use a QR code on your phone. The Wi-Fi was a bit dodgy but it worked in the end. You get a round every 15 minutes. No matter how hungry we come, we’ve never stayed longer than the rounds last. There is plenty of food and it makes sense. The sushi includes mostly tuna & salmon. There is also shrimp, eel, inari, and other items. There is even salmon sashimi (3 orders of 3 slices per person). The sushi is limited but hey - it’s all you can eat! And you can add al a carte rolls if you’d like to spice things up. The hot food includes karage, ramen, teriyaki salmon, seaweed salad, and many other options The hot food comes in much larger portions. For example, the karage will be a pile of 15 while the nigiri is only 2 pieces. The rolls I believe are 6 pieces. The staff is always very kind to us. We really enjoy being here. There are always other people enjoying their food. It’s a great night out. I think this location would get 5 stars if we saw a couple new additions to the all you can eat sushi. But for what it is - it’s a great option for a sushi lover

We dined at Sushimania Reading several times and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. As soon as we went there, there were no greetings, just got shown our table and we had requested for a high chair for my little one. But they wouldn’t give me one and showed me the sofa for my little to sit on! Then they got a new system where you order via the QR Code app on your mobile. The food then was served and it was good. Presentation was well presented. The staff's attitude was consistently rude throughout my visit, which results in a negative experience. Additionally, I was surprised to be asked to pay a service charge, as the service provided did not meet my expectations. When we asked them to remove the service charge, the staff stated that you’re paying half price of the lunch and you have to pay the service charge. This is was just utter nonsense! Then the manager came and stated that the service charge is not much and the service charge is for the service for bringing the food to the table. We ended up paying the charge, as we couldn’t be bothered with the pointless dispute. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant, even though the food was good; but due to the poor customer service and lackluster experience!

I was skeptical at trying out this restaurant at first, due to the negative reviews, but after my recent experience at this restaurant, it seems to me that some reviews are no longer reflective to present times. The restaurant have implemented ways to improve their service. Previous reviews mentioned about ordering verbally, and that the restaurant introduce tactical measures to prevent customers from ordering in a timely manner. Whereas they ignore you, slow in service or was rather rude in their manners. Luckily, this wasn't the case at all! We ordered via the app on our phones. It's a very convenient process, scan the QR code and ready to order. I like the technological aspect of this, save all the hassle and the app is very easy to navigate. The menu is very good, you can order tempuras, salmon sashimi, and so many other options. Definitely highly recommended based on the wide range of buffet selection. The food arrived rather promptly, good quality. I like the buffet option that they cook what you ordered, so it's freshly prepared out of the kitchen. We do not live locally, we have to travel 1 hour and 40mins to get to this restaurant, but we had already been back. It's definitely great value for money, the sashimi is very generous, thick slices. We will be back again! 🥰🥰

All you can eat is an amazing deal. Lots of items to choose from. However, too much rice in the sushi. In a business point of view, it's very smart, to be fair, for the price they are charging and the quality of food they are delivering, I will still come back, but I'm eating too much rice compared to other sushi places. Extreme misleading lunch offer. The management needs to do maths and realise it’s not half price lunch menu if they double the price first. For example, would anyone pay £15.80 for a side salad(pic attached) in a mediocre sushi cafe. Just lettuce and 2 baby tomatoes. Not good value and not surprised they had no customers. I used to go regularly with my daughter before lockdown as it was her favourite restaurant. Will not return and judging by the covers I’m probably not the only one. Floor Staff speaks loudly in their own language and laughing and gawping at guests dining alone for lunch. Go if you like the feeling of being stared at and then being ripped off. When I questioned the bill she was ready with the response so definitely this has been questioned as she was very snarky and prepared. Manager was friendly but I wasn’t looking for friends. Just a decent quick lunch but was scammed. Not all scammers are online I guess. Experience is mania but not in a good way.

Good food variety on all you can eat. The sashimi is very generous, thick slices. The sushi is good. Will come back again.

We love this place, popping in here 2-3 times a week for a quick dinner for 2, which cost us rarely more than £20 total 😍 You do get a lot for money, we love the taste of their sushi's, salads, noodles, tempura, miso soups👍👍👍 Sad to see the restaurant is underrated on Google, but place is still mostly busy so people do enjoy it 😎 Highly recommended for both a la carte and all you can eat👍😊

Upd: August 2023. Their new online ordering system is weird. It automatically adds all you can eat menu to what appears to be your bill and staff don't explain this upon arrival so you end up looking at the screen thinking you just ordered something you didn't want. Then you ask the waiters and they impatiently explain to you that their computer can see that you didn't order it. Another thing about this system is that it's very ableist and ageist. It's online and you are assumed to have a phone, internet connection, be able to see and hear. They don't even ask you at the door if you'd prefer a paper menu which imho they should be doing. Good take out. Can get busy at times and we had a very disturbing experience there once when a couple with the baby started changing him at the actual table next to us. We complained and the staff just moved us but didn't say anything to the parents who were literally changing a soiled nappy in the area where food was being consumed. We could smell it from the other table. Gross.

Our go to sushi place in Reading. It's very consistent and the service is spot on. They regularly have half price a la carte menus and do a reasonably well priced all you can eat. No bells and whistles or manga and fake jasmine here, just good sushi and other things. Btw my favourite is the duck donburi and sweet prawn sushi.

The sea food noodle dish that I had was very poor - it had two prawns in it, some small chunks of fish and a crab stick! It cost over £6 and mostly consisted of noodles - I could have had a pot noodle at home instead. My husband ordered too much and could not finish one of the dishes, so he wanted to take it home, but the staff member said that we would need to pay double for each dish we want to take away. That is apparently the restaurant policy! I would not go there again.

Prices have gone up, quality has gone down. It never was the most amazing quality to begin with but it used to be nice enough. Now the quality has gone down quite a bit. Tempura was just awful - the batter was all wrong, it was burnt and full.of oil. Sashimi quality was pretty bad too.

A good selection, and not too pricey - especially on Friday at lunchtime. Good for a quick lunch. Service is generally pretty good, and there's consistency in what you get. Cures the itch for the sushi craving!

The worst place ever, wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else, yesterday 27th of June we were 6 academics& Students celebrating one of our students, we had our table reserved, but the guy was very very rude , he was literally yelling at us , he was shouting for about 10 minutes maybe more , we couldn’t get a proper menu , he didn’t answer anything about how we can order just yelling, very rude, bad language and tone, I strongly recommend to stay away from this place. If there is less than zero recommendation I would give it.

Overall great experience here; food is freshly made to order, tasty and great value. Highly recommend trying the ‘Jumbo Dragon Roll’, ‘Crunchy Salmon Roll’, ‘Unagi Don’ (eel and rice), ‘Soft Shell Crab Temaki’, ‘Tempura’, ‘Tofu Salad’ (the salad sauce is nice). The place gets busy during the weekend and we did not book, so recommend heading in just when they open for lunch or booking a table. They are popular for their all you can eat buffet (though ordering type) or half price on A La Carte. Bear in mind when you order it is via a QR code and you can make your selection on your phone, it is quite intuitive so many people will figure it out. The food is well prepared; good quality, generous portions and packed with flavour. Food service is fast too after ordering. I would definitely go back again and recommend to others to try during lunch periods for the offers in person.

I must admit, I stayed away from this place after reading all the bas reviews, but eventually curiosity was stronger, and I’m happy I gave it a try! I was worried mostly about the staff, but I must say they were nice, maybe a bit direct and straight to the point, but I wouldn’t call them rude. The food deal is where this restaurant shines, you can get so much for the set price! From sushi, to deep fried tempura shrimps. The food was tasty too, a bit sweet for my taste, but that’s all the Asian restaurants in the Uk, not just this one. I’d say to give it a try, and you’ll feel like you get a lot for your money!

Trust me! I have eaten many Chinese, Japanese and Korean dishes in many places but the dishes we get in Sushimania is next level. Every dish gives you unique taste. Staff there are really nice and the manager is not like a manager, he is like your friend. He talks to you as though he knows you for ages, makes you feel comfortable. My favorite go to place!! You will not regret eating there.

Quite a few vegan options - ask for the allergen book, quite easy to navigate with all dishes being numbered and the veggie ones being labelled. Have half price offers during lunchtime which make it a really good value meal!! Soba salad is lovely and sushi made fresh to order (had asparagus).

The sushi weren't fresh. The sushi rice was dry and old. The so call all you can eat wasn't really that case. They hold the order paper to limit the rounds you order and the food came very late. Food wasn't nice. The service wasn't good too. No next time and not recommend.

completely rude customer service, I was on a table of 9. Two of the people decide to get the bottom less order and everyone has gotten their food except from one, everyone finished their food and the order still wasnt there. Two people had the bottom less and the worker came up to us and said “I see you eating that you’re not allowed don’t lie”. Out of order. Food was decent but wouldn’t come again.

Came here for supper after church with the other young adults from church. It would be helpful if the staff were more knowledgeable about allergies because while I can eat anything, one of the others is gluten free and for a moment it looked like there wouldn’t be anything suitable (but eventually something was identified on the menu that she could eat ). Their lack of knowledge of the constituents of particular items was also unhelpful to me when I was trying to choose from the available customisations for what I wanted to order for myself.

Been eating Kokoro for over 10 years, and it remains a reliable comfort food after all these years. Would recommend half chilli chicken and half katsu chicken + curry sauce on the side. Makes for a wonderful blend of textures with a juicy and perfectly spicy dish that you can keep topping up the curry sauce in

Over priced and over hyped. Food is nice but it's just not worth the money. Staff were pleasant and efficient. Your being charged nearly £10 for two small glasses of orange juice just who thinks that is acceptable?
