Beat sushi in Reading, always good service and food delicious!

Absolutely delicious food, I can’t wait to return, I couldn’t believe it was empty when we arrived this evening! The staff are all so friendly and helpful ❤️

First of all the inside aesthetic of this place was On point, so calm and authentic. Then the service, there was only 2 people but was efficient and really nice, it felt welcoming. Lastly the food, it was exquisite the ramen noodle was so delicious highly recommend will definitely come again 😋

The sushi is good value. The Osaka platter is amazing and large enough to shared by 2-3 people. Definitely would come again.

Went for my son's 16th birthday as he's a lover of sushi. Plenty of parking found on Western Elms Avenue, short walk to a small and cosy restaurant that had an ample menu. In short - go. Everything from the udon noodles to sushi was fantastic. You could see the care that goes into the dishes through the open kitchen. We'll be back.

Don't tell anyone you guys are making 'Ramen', I have already asked you what the soup base about and didn't get any useful answer. it's really nothing related to Japanese taste, nort tonkotsu not soyu not paitan. It's just noodles with somewhere Asian homemade taste. Oishi means delicious in Japanese but it's NOT fit the quality at all.

I had some Nigiri and Maki for takeaway. The price is a little bit high but the taste... it's phenomenal. It's worth it. A little gem of a restaurant with friendly staff.

I love popping in to this place for a quiet bowl of noodles and a beer. Food is good and always a nice relaxed atmosphere

This is probably the best sushi place in Reading. Fresh, well made sushi, comfy seating, friendly staff and reasonable prices. There are also plenty of non sushi options that also look delicious. Definitely worth a visit!

This place is a small japanese restaurant. For me it has good quality sushi, mediocre beef rice bowl. The service was acceptable.

Assorted tempura and the rice-roll are recommended, I would order it everytime dinner there, ....but Ramen fair

This is a small restaurant, we had booked a table for 6 in advance. The atmosphere you get walking in is that of a simple take out place, and not where you want to sit for a cosy meal. I had the vegetarian option and it tasted good. Not all bowls or glasses looked clean so it wasn't a great experience. My colleagues got their sushi on a single plate so they had to share, remember to ask for separate plates if you want that.

Oishi is quickly becoming one of my favourites in Reading. We had dinner in there yesterday again. Great food and atmosphere all for a reasonable price.

Went there for the sushi. The fish they use is good! The girl who was helping us could be a little bit more attentive but that’s okay. Now when it comes to sushi, there is 1 thing you need to do good and that is the rice. The rice wasn’t good, mainly too dense and it could use a little bit more flavour. It might have to do with the brand and the way they prepare the rice, but it needs to be fluffy and sticky. Pressing rice with force together to make it stick is something different …

A hidden gem in Reading. The food and service was excellent. Sushi was fresh, the specials were bursting with flavour. Can highly recommend.

I absolutely love this place. We order form here so much! Always the same beef ramen, remaking and sushi! one time the drive delivered the food else where so I didn’t get my food but the restaurant re ordered it for me , if not I would’ve had paid and not gotten any food. They also have sent us a lot of compensary little bits to thank our purchases as we are regular customers and love it so much. I will come reading to eat here !

Great little restaurant with very good food. Service was very friendly and helpful. Do t be put off by the area this is a hidden gem.

Ingredients were good quality but the flavours weren't great. The ramen and tempura were bland, the squid was really tough, and the wings were ok but very salty. Some issues with delivery too: ramen had leaked in the bag, and the tempura and squid were soggy. Not worth the high prices.

Great sushi, amazing service. A little hidden gem!!

Got a mix of sushi and sashimi delivered, plus some side dishes. Miso soup was improperly packaged and had partially spilled inside the bag, not a great start. Wakame salad was decent; so was the quality of some of the fish, but some was questionable. Tamago nigiri was unpleasant, the omelette did not taste fresh at all. Worst, the rice was really overcooked, soft and mushy so none of the sushi was enjoyable. Was hopeful based on the reviews, but turned out to be yet another Reading sushi place that can't cook rice properly. It's not good enough at these prices.

Don't know much about Sushi but we had a delicious selection with some dumplings on the side. Great service. Authentic.

Great value for money - had a chicken katsu - well fried tender on the inside. Could not tell whether sauce was homemade or storebought, but frying of katsu was worth the 5/5 by itself. In terms of the chicken káraages once again excellent frying, no complaints

Ordered for collection so haven’t eat in yet due to the pandemic. But taste, very good. Especially the salmon dish + its sauce. Yummy

Everything about this place needs to be highlighted. The service is excellent, the food was fantastic and the prices are great value. The menu is comprehensive without offering everything under the sun, which for me gets the alarm bells ringing. The food is freshly prepared. I can recommend the Bento box. Pure theatre! Some of their twists are really interesting and work really well. I think their chef knows what he is doing and takes pride in his craft. they have very good options for vegetarians.

Best Japanese food in the area, without question. I can't comment on the take away as I've always been in the restaurant to eat. The service is immaculate, the food is all prepared fresh and arrives in minutes, and the quality is exceptional. Cannot recommend it enough.

Fantastic little sushi place really enjoyed the sushi and the staff were great when we used to be able to eat in. Take away also excellent!

Love this little unassuming sushi/ Japanese soul food place. Sad they still can't have dine in...but got to try their takeaway and quality is still top notch. Dont understand the 1 star reviews...must be some envious competitors. We go out of our way to get our Japanese food fix...their unagi is so good and hope they weather this year.

This is the best Japanese take away I've ever been to. I normally order the Katsu Curry and the sushi and I have never had any complaints with the food

I just ordered some, it was really nice. I am a big fan of sushi, I tried all the sushi restaurants in town and Oishi was the only one I didn’t taste yet, and I can definitely say that it’s the best one. Very good quality, fresh products, very tasty, big portions. Definitely the number one and will order from them from now on. I like the others too but this one is closer to my house and it’s just amazing. 100% recommended

Ordered for my partner’s birthday meal. It was very good sushi and fresh and still warm. I made 4stars as I don’t know about other menu....Will definitely try other menu next time. Delivery was only £4! Delivery site was a little unclear so I made mistake. But when I called (I wanted to order for next day but there is section for it. Staff explained that I just can make a note of it ) a friendly staff amended it form me on phone.

ordered food NYE and took 3.5 hours then arrived without rice and cold . 19/2/2021 ordered the first time since then at 18.07 told delivery approx. 50mins rung to 19.20 where is the delivery and told there busy would be there in 45 mins , the attuite was tough , if I hadn't rung no communication then attitude over the phone not a sorry were busy , just a we are busy have to wait . Never order from them again

Not worth it! We got the ramen, some gyoza and a hand roll. The ramen was sub par, felt more like pot noodles and the meat wasnt cooked properly either. The hand roll didnt seem fresh and the rice wasnt good either. He gyoza were ok but it just was a bit underwhelming.

Really craved japanese food and wasn’t sure it would travel well, I was wrong! I am soo glad we ordered from here tonight, the food came quickly and was reasonably priced and very authentic. I had the yasai hand roll and yasai tofu udon, my husband had a salmon and avocado hand roll, pork tonkotsu ramen and we shared a portion of takoyaki, I can say hands down these were the nicest takoyaki I have tried outside of Japan. Definitely worth a visit/order.

Disappointing. Not sure about all the amazing reviews? Food was ok and cold was cold, staff not Japanese, but Nepalese and very abrasive. I certainly wouldn't return.......Sushi from Nepal

SMELLY FISH WHICH IS GONE OFF!!! It was awful. Missing items, the rice was very hard and the Oishi roll was overcooked..... Never ordering from here again...

The fish itself tasted fine, but the rice in sushi was horrible, they were made badly and tasted horrible. Had to throw away most of it. Wasted money.. Don't order from here, there are other places with better food

3 nights of ordering in just eat and two unsatisfactory experiences, this one was delicious. The sushi was great and the katsu curry was lovely.

Ordered delivery from here a few times now... delicious and consistent! Highly recommend for anyone who likes Japanese food in the Reading area!... yum! (Looking forward to being able to 'dine in' at some stage! ...Sadly since discovering Oishi, covid has happened so we haven't been able to visit in person)!

Decided rather than buy a take away from a chain we'd try a local restaurant and glad we did. Ordered online and was told would be ready in 10 minutes, went in after 15/20 minutes and it was ready and bagged up. Sign on counter said cash only, but card machine available. Ordered 2 types of Gyoza and squid plus 2 noodle dishes and they were everything we hoped for. Will try the sushi soon.

I asked the woman at the till if the restaurant was halal. She kindly answered a yes. I trusted her so I ate the chicken options which she confirmed were halal. What really worried me was the fact that I didn't see any halal certification or ask if there was any alchohol in some of their food. It was a delicious experience however and the food was well made and fresh. It was great and all, I'm just not sure if I was allowed to actually eat the food ( I never took a picture sorry )

Small cozy place to eat good japanese food in town.

Found Oishi by chance, and I'm really glad I did. I have yet to have anything other than great food from here. Staff are really pleasant and food is always delivered / ready for collection at the time stated.

We had the mixed platter plus chicken teriyaki and the spicy edamame. Fabulous, fresh, flavourful, a great selection.

Really great fresh and tasty sushi, teriyaki, udon, ramen etc. Thoroughly enjoyed the mixed platter. Also ordered chicken teriyaki. Absolutely delicious! Good overall value too - the meal for the 3 of us including drinks and tip was £75 - couldn't of eaten any more. Go there!!

Menu needs a refresh but still a good place to eat

A laidback Weds lunchtime trip to the other side of town. The shop was shut when we got there about 1205 but was open by the time we'd spent 10 minutes in nearby shops. Only one staff member to take orders and cook - so the food took a while to come but when it did, it was spectacular. I had the chicken katsu curry with rice and a simple side salad. Sauce was delicious. Partner had the chicken teriyaki bento box, which came covered. Pulling the lid off was like a magic trick - gasp - gorgeous presentation of teriyaki, rice, salad and fried dumplings. With a good miso soup on the side. Taste-wise, the rice was a little underwhelming but the rest was good. The place itself is comfortable and trendy, exposed construction and Japan-esque stylings. Very Insta-friendly. Recommend.

We have just ordered a Katsu Curry and Sashimi box to be delivered. The original order says that it would take 1.5 hrs to be delivered but it ended up only taking around 1 hr. Unfortunately the cheap polystyrene container that the Katsu Curry comes in had broken causing the whole thing to leak out into the bag. We called the restaurant to tell them about what had happened to which they offered to send us out a new curry sauce but we would have to wait for the delivery driver to return. Instead of opting to wait potentially another hour and not wanting the chicken and rice to go cold, I decided to go and collect it for myself. This was pointless as by the time I got back, the chicken and rice had gone cold. I'm very disappointed that we had paid £1 for delivery and had to go to the restaurant to collect the curry sauce. It would have been nice to have been offered the delivery fee back or better yet, fresh chicken and rice. The katsu chicken (despite being cold) was nice, the sashimi I felt was overpriced.

I've eaten in the restaurant twice and had takeaway, and every time the food as been superb. My boyfriend and I went last night for Valentine's and it was very busy and the service was a little slower but that was expected given how busy it was. If you're not familiar with things on the menu, the staff are very knowledgeable and can explain what the different things are if you ask. Also, if you're not comfortable with chopsticks, you can ask for some regular cutlery no problem. Overall, a really genuine authenic restuarsnt for Japanese cuisine.

We have been regular customers and previously enjoyed many meals here, in the evenings. Today we wanted to go for lunch, I checked their website which said they would be open from 12 midday. We made the journey (+30mins, not cheap and not easy) only to find the restaurant closed. There was no sign on the door, no explanation, nothing on their website to explain the closure. No one answered their phone. We were so disappointed, and hungry. Kids were upset and hungry, what a failed trip. 3 hours later I phoned up to check the restaurant, the person who answered explained that they had been shopping and that's why the restaurant was not opened as advertised. What kind of business are they running?! They run out of supplies and don't open, don't explain? Or they fancied going shopping rather than working?! We won't be going back and we won't be recommending this restaurant any more.

I have tried almost every sushi establishment in Berkshire now and this place is top for me for value for money. Amazing sushi for a good price. I have been here a few times and I normally got the 60+ piece Mixed Platter for £45, it's a good mix of sushi and every different one tastes great. The quality for the cost is simply unmatched.

This was my third visit of the place and it still hasn’t changed the impression I had before - very neat sushi crafts to deliciously taste and enjoy. Quick and polite service, nice interior. Green tea unlimited for £2.00 only. Reasonable prices for a fairly classy experience. For the location it’s a definitely treasure!

I've been a regular since Taberu and adore Oishi's delights from afar. Recently my order tends toward a delightfully well filled and varied bento box, a miso soup or gyoza, some slightly overpriced but delectable mochi and quite possibly the best Saké available in Reading, Sayuri. I will visit some day :)

Came here with our young children. Got a large sushi platter and we loved it. Great range of tasty food that wasn’t too exotic for the kids. Service was spot on and fantastic value for money.

Fui con 6 amigos. Reservamos mesa pero exra amigo amigo y fueron muy útiles para acomodarnos a todos. El camarero estaba bien, pero no mucha energía sobre él. Elija una mezcla de sushi y otros platos calientes. Lo mejor fueron las gambas tempora y lo peor fueron los calamares. Las cajas tenían una buena relación calidad-precio pero el pollo Katsu estaba un poco seco, el salmón era mucho mejor. Sólo tenía refrescos que tenían un precio razonable. Solo una breve reseña, ya que necesito volver y probar más platos antes de hacer una revisión completa. Agradable y acogedor e individual. Los asientos no son muy cómodos y ni siquiera se molestan en llevar su automóvil como estacionamiento para pasajeros después de las 8 pm.

I only found out about this place when i suffered a huge hangover, and ordered to try. The menu sounded amazing, great choice. A very pleasant man delivered my very neatly packed food. Oh boy how beautifully presented it was! I was given the chance to pour my own broth over beautifully arranged dumplings and perfectly soft boiled egg nested on the noodles. Second course was yummy katsu curry with tasty butternut squash. This is a very lucky find and i will be very happy with this in a restaurant. Their prices are very reasonable and quality high. I would recommend to anyone! Sadly, i did not have tike to take a picture ;)

Fresh and modern space, but cozy and welcoming at the same time. It was very unexpected to find a place like this in that location and we really enjoyed it. We'll come back for sure! :)

Excellent food and nice little cozy space inside. Had some tempura and sushi both great. They also have decent collection of drinks. I was down with cold and the waitress offered to serve me warm sake and it helped. Nice independent restaurant.

A bit lacking in flavour. The tempura batter wasn't very light or crispy. A bit soggy and heavy. Sushi was nice.

We have been about 1hr before Saturday evening closing time and the kind waitress took our all orders and she advice what is good. The food were ready in a short time. Food were quickly and fresh, really tasty. The restaurant is typically japanese style. Restaurant is not too big but really nice.

Really lovely and modern restaurant on Oxford Road. Much needed new place which is a bit different from places nearby. Comfortable, clean premises. Lovely food- katsu chicken was excellent and loved the dumplings. Licensed now as well. Recommended.

The décor more reminiscent of a caff, I wasn't sure what to expect. But - wow!! Beautifully cooked, attractively-presented, tasty dishes - we ordered a few, enjoyed, ordered a few more, enjoyed, ordered a few more, and at every stage the kitchen brought them neither too quickly, nor too slowly, so that the end of the meal we had had exactly the right amount of food but didn't feel bloated! Service, from a young man (not Japanese) was excellent. Bill very reasonable. We had plenty to drink - beer, wine, saki. £25 a head.

We were a group of 4 friends plus my 11 to son. The menu had something for everyone - a lot of choice. It's great for sharing with very reasonable prices. The waitress took the time to help one of our party with her choices, as it was her first visit to a Japanese restaurant. Between us we had ramen, teriyaki, katsu, sushi, yakitori, teriyaki, miso soup and desserts. The yakitori was too sweet for my son but that's just a matter of taste. The moichi were really good. I would definitely recommend this for small groups. It's quite small so if you're going on a Saturday evening, I'd book ahead. We'll go again when we get the chance.

Love this place! I’m from California and know good sushi! The fish is super fresh and the service is good! Have been there twice and will try to squeeze in another visit. Highly recommend 👍🏽
