Osaka in Reading

Went here before a local gig. You don’t need to book and the queue was relatively quick given how popular it was. All the food is very authentic and well cooked. Staff all on the ball and friendly. Perfection for a pre show meal.

There was a line out the door because it was Saturday evening. We waited in line for 15 minutes and 5 minutes at the bar, but it was more than worth the wait.

Amazing food. Arie was great! She provided a good service and friendly. If you want delicious Japanese food, we recommend here. It is cozy and nice atmosphere. We will come back for sure.

Delicious food and great and friendly service by Prab. Fantastic team, service was prompt, which made my day. We are never been disappointed.

Crispy chicken karaagei is more like an overcooked chicken nugget, beef yakiniku donburiis supposed to be made with ribeye, it definitely was not, more like very tough flank steak, I was warned it would be spicie , it was not out of 4 starters and 4 different mains the only thing that was halfway decent was the green dragon sushi. Definitely think twice before wasting your money

I've no idea I just walked passed it on my way to the toilets on the ground floor. But some bloke was sat in the window eating a very tasty looking bowl of something as I walked past.

Delicious food. Very fresh and light. So tasty. Tempura was just right- lightly fried. Sushi selection incredible. Good service. Long queue to get in as cannot book but we never felt rushed.

First visit and I was very impressed. Despite being tacked onto the end of The Oracle shopping centre, it's quite a peaceful place to spend some time. Tempura was phenomenal. Sushi was great too. Not too expensive.

First time here and I loved it. The dragon rolls were fab. Nice surprise. Food lovely and good price.

Wonderful sushi and sashimi, one of the best I ever tried in my life. The service and the kindness of all the staff is outstanding. Since I went there for the first time, if I want to eat sushi Osaka is the pot choice. I haven't tried the ramen yet, however it looks delicious as well

Pretty good Japanese themed restaurant. Service was very good and the decor / layout is well thought out. We enjoyed the Takoyaki balls, chicken karaage and Tonkotsu ramen. Would like to see traditional Tonkatsu on the menu. Will come back to try the sushi and rice options. A couple of standard Japanese lagers (Asahi, Kirin Ichiban), Sake, Asian tea options, other soft drinks and decent quality coffee.

Had the takoyaki, curry katsu udon and chicken yaki udon. Everything was lovely, flavourful and fresh, and our server Bibi was patient with us considering we took a while to make our minds up. The tenderstem broccoli in my yaki udon was cooked to a slight bite, and the yaki udon had a wonderful smoky flavour.

We took a reservation online but were told that they don’t take reservations upon entering. The food was really good but the service was not the best, the order was messed up and they acted like it was our fault. We had to wait 25min to be seated, which is fine, but we had a reservation!! The food is also overpriced and the service fee for bad service was crazy Recommend the food but need to change the attitude .

Lively Japanese themed restaurant in the popular Oracle centre in the Reading town centre. Plenty of fusion japanese/Chinese inspired dishes. Although not authentic the quality is reasonable, especially the tempura. The chicken karaage is disappointing as not freshly prepared and more if a chicken nugget dish.. however overall the quality and prices are reasonable and there a few places to compare with locally. Although further apart I’d recommend Shoryu for a more authentic Japanese experience.

Delicious calamari with wasabi mayo and Korean sweet chili crispy chicken - one of the best you can get anywhere. Also the cocktails especially Pina Colada is very good. Professional and lovely homely decor with wooden motif. High quality food and decent prices. Service is pretty fast and polite. Always love a visit here. FSA rating 5/5 as of 7 October 2024

I recently dined at this restaurant where Bimina served us, and the experience was fantastic. Bimina was incredibly attentive and friendly, making us feel very welcome. She provided excellent recommendations from the menu, and her knowledge of the dishes was impressive. The service was prompt, and she made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Overall, Bimina's exceptional service greatly enhanced our dining experience. Highly recommend!

First time that I go to Osaka and it did not disappoint. Food was tasty, drinks were good and the service me and my friends received from Ary was great.

Amazing Japanese resturant I loved it and I am their biggest fan been waiting for the opening - if you are a fan of sushi or the Japanese cuisine then you must try it ASAP. I recommend the kimchi seafood udon, gyoza, tempura, sushi and tropical island drink

Went to this Japanese resto at the Oracle in Reading with my history teacher. . We shared the Tempura Mixed Vegetable, which included sweet potato, aubergine, red pepper, courgette, asparagus and seaweed, all sprinkled with nori seasoning. The tempura was crispy, and personally I thought the asparagus was the most succulent. I ordered Tonkotsu Ramen for my main course, featuring pork broth ramen with bbq pork belly, nitamago egg, woodear mushroom, beansprouts, sweetcorn, spring onions, pickled ginger, fried shallots and sesame. The broth was rich yet a bit greasy. The egg would be better if the egg yolk could be more runny. . The resto was quite popular as it had a long queue when we arrived. The staff were attentive and nice.

I was there 3 times. Every time food was delicious and service very good. I will recommend this restaurant to enybody who like Japanese food. For some time the usual cooker was missing but now he is back and pork is delicious again 😋

This restaurant is so good, we travel from an hour away to come here regularly. The food is always so tasty, well presented, good value etc. The service is always great . I can't recommend it highly enough.

Lovely food but bizarre atmosphere with the owner just standing on the stairs watching customers and doing nothing to help the staff on a very busy Friday night.

Gorgeous food and nice ambiance. Just a shame you are not able to book. Fortunately we arrived around midday and were seated before the Saturday rush. Absolutely loved my birthday lunch! Can’t wait for my next visit….

The prices are insanely expensive, plus a percentage for service. Wish I could put “0”.

We had a great Sunday dinner date at Osaka. We didn’t wait long in the queue. The food was great and staff was very nice too. We ordered soba noodles one with tofu one with chicken, price was very good for the quite big portion of noodles. We took some sushi on the side what was a great choice. The reason for 4 stars is that we were seated close to the door and we felt bit cold so we had to ask to change the table, which was not a problem. I also didn’t find teriyaki sauce on the table which would be a great idea. The soya sauce lid on our table was not closed properly and I spilled some on my hand and table. I also fancied some good ramen but I don’t eat meat and I didn’t see any nice option for me. Only soup I could have would be miso broth one which I am not a big fan of so I couldn’t order a ramen for me which was a bit disappointing. Would be nice to have some more veggie soups options not only the miso based. Also I have noticed that a lot of options from the menu had “s” which stands for spicy. This made our choice a bit difficult to make as well. I found it nice that we could take out leftover food in the takeaway box and I had the rest of my sushi at home. In general it was a great place to have Japanese food and we enjoyed it very much.

Osaka Japanese Restaurant in Reading offers an exceptional dining experience with its flavorful and perfectly executed dishes. The chicken katsu curry was crispy and tender, the California sushi rolls were fresh and delicious, and the chicken udon was hearty and full of flavor. Every bite tasted authentic and satisfying. The service was great, and I’ll definitely be coming back for more. Highly recommended!

Waitress hardly spoke English so that was a challenge and for some reason they served starters and main courses ALL in one go! We were 4 people at the table, so it got packed and we rushed the starter so that the main course wouldn't go cold... didn't trust to send it back. I went there on recommendation... they told me this had never happened to them... so I was just unlucky?!

We love visiting Osaka Reading! The food is always tasty - it is always busy but that is part of the charm....the hustle of the waiting staff, looking at other peoples' choices and making a mental note to try it the next time we visit.

Everything was good, we went there on Friday night and got seated pretty quickly. I passed the restaurant on Saturday night and it was packed so I would recommend going on a Friday. The food was good, but I have definitely had better sushi. The Chardonnay was great, very fruity and fresh.

The food is very good although the service can be a bit hit and miss. Cocktails are more ice than alcohol. A slightly more upmarket version than Wagamamas.

Delicious food and great service. It was packed, but the service was still warm, friendly, helpful and fast. I've spent time in Japan so I'm often disappointed by Japanese food in the UK, but this was really good. There's a nice atmosphere and it's nicely appointed. I''ll be back again soon.

I had always been put off going to this restaurant. It always looked nice enough, and it's a very visually appealing place, but I’d always seen it busy, and once when I finally popped my head through the entrance to get a feel for the place, it was way too loud. I’m acutely sensitive to sound, so a restaurant environment (“ambiance” if you will) is of paramount importance for me. In the end, I went with a relative on a weekday evening. Table for two? Yes please. We are guided to a ‘banquette’ where we’re going to be sitting beside each other, which I find is a nice touch, to be honest. Most of the time, when you go to a restaurant, you sit opposite your dining partner(s), and that’s rather adversarial, isn’t it? There are people on the other side of us, but we can’t see their faces, so it’s all right (but I do have to resist the urge to duck my head under the dividing board and say “Hello! What are you having?”). There are some marks on the dividing board, which look like faint traces of grease, but I really don’t know. Laminated cardboard menus are given out, and they’re easy enough to read and deciper, so I find it easy to decide what to order. “Do you have any non-alcoholic booze?” I ask our waitress (Unisex waiter? Wait person? Server? I don’t know what the term is these days). Why, yes! They have Asahi 0.0%! I am overjoyed. Although our order is taken by one person, the food is delivered by others. That’s a little destabilising, and I think it’d be better if they forewarned diners “I’ll be taking your order, but different people will be bringing you your food”. There’s a problem with my dish. I deliberately won’t say what it was. I raise it as an issue with our waitress, and she quickly offers to have the dish changed. Later the front of house supervisor makes the same offer in more emphatic terms, but both times I decline because I just want to get on with eating. We forgo dessert, because….there wasn’t any need for it, really! The portion size is very reasonable indeed. I’d even go as far as to say it was just right. Not too much, and certainly not too little. Although there was a slight problem with my dish, overall it was good. The broccoli in my yaki soba was OUTSTANDING. The music was turned down slightly at my request, and I wasn’t the only one who found it very loud: at the beginning of my meal, I asked a diner on my right if they also found it “oppressively loud” and the answer was yes. Later, however, the music was barely audible above the buzz of conversations. Osaka really needs some acoustic baffles in the ceiling to soak up the noise. That would tip the scale of the restaurant more towards ‘refined’. The lighting was VERY good – definitely not harsh, and for someone like me, lighting and sound are critical factors when I decide whether to eat somewhere. My initial thought was to rate it three stars, but the staff are the main factor which tipped it to four. I’d only ever give five stars to a place if it’s truly world class, but Osaka stands out as one of the better places in Reading. The staff are attentive without being curt or regimental, and kind without being obsequious. The grub just happens to be nice too. Would I go again? Yes.

Decided to visit Osaka last weekend and the wait wasn’t too bad. We were attended and taken in very politely. The service was quick, staff was courteous. They didn’t have vegan or vegetarian Katsu dish as we have a vegetarian preference as well. Ordered Kimchi, Ginger, Korean Sticky Chicken, Chicken Curry Ramen, and vegetarian Yasai Yaki Soba with Lean Green and Banana fresh juices. Yasai Yaki Soba was okayish but the rest of the dishes were on point with good flavours and sufficient quantity.

Never eaten inside but always busy inside and people queuing outside waiting for a table.

The broth in the Sukiyaki Beef Fish will change your life. Wonderful joint 10/10

Sushi & sides we've ordered have all been very good. Losing a star because the soup ramen was plain and the meat chewy.

Great service from bibi and honestly made our experience all the better. Gave us good sugestions as we didn’t know what to order and food was actually spot on . Thank ypu also to the rest of team for making it a good experience .

I enjoyed the food every time I went. The only downside would be a queue to get in and there is no take away/home delivery option through the apps. It is a cozy and popular place. You need to plan you visit in advance especially for the evening meals.

Yakisoba is very good. Even my kids love it.

This is a good restaurant, we queued for awhile for lunch. Yet, the staff arranged us and other customers in the bar for waiting. The ramen n salmon rolls were nice. The staff help celebrated my friend’s birthday and song a birthday song! Awesome!

Private, fast and high quality food. Really enjoyed the visit will definitely be back. Not particularly expensive either.

Food was great tasty and quick. Very helpful with ordering as one of us was allergic to chilies. It was very noisy as we both wear hearing aids it was to communicate. Next time I would ask for a window seat which might be better

Amazing meal at Osaka today. We shared the dragon roll sushi and vegetable tempura to start, then I had the tofu yaki udon with a mocktail. Really good service and excellent food. You can't book so be prepared to queue. I really recommend this restaurant.

Pregnant experience 🫶🏼🤰🏻 I had a quick visit to Osaka , but everything was tasting how I wondered, I ordered a spicy Ebi Prawn and a nice and crispy chicken katsu roll , I could order more , but was very full , the food it’s rich in taste , and has incredible flavours ! I would definitely come back 100 times more ! Friendly staff , nice atmosphere.

Been a while since I came to Reading. I came by Osaka had a lovely time with friends as I recommended the place and they enjoyed it too which I am glad about. Prabs was a lovely host and did great to help us out with our needs.

It was the 2nd time I visited Osaka in a month. Hot and cold dishes were both fantastic. Staff is friendly and professional. It is a great place for high-quality Japanese food that I would recommend it to friends and keep visiting.

We came here for lunch over the bank holiday weekend and thought the food was a very high standard (we particularly enjoyed the calamari, tempura prawn and cheese grilled gyoza) The service was excellent and there was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. We will definitely come here again.

The waiters were friendly and the service was quick. I had Yaki Soba and Ginger Ale. The noodles and the prawns were perfectly fried, it's just that the sauce it was used to fry was way too sweet.
