Sushi Surprise in Hackney

Solía trabajar a la vuelta de la esquina de este lugar de sushi y era mi lugar número uno para sushi en Londres. Buen precio para un pescado de gran calidad, especialmente en comparación con las tiendas de sushi habituales de las calles principales, donde el arroz es duro y solo tiene una pequeña rebanada de pescado encima. ¡Este lugar fue tan increíble en sus salsas fueron geniales! Sushi Surprise está a la vuelta de la esquina de mi lugar de trabajo, por lo que a menudo voy corriendo y tomo algo para llevar. El pescado es fresco y definitivamente recomendaría la selección de salmón (8 rollos de salmón y aguacate, 1 nigiri simple de salmón, 2 nigiri de salmón con algunas coberturas especiales). La "sorpresa" es solo una libra extra y ha sido muy buena cada vez que la tengo. El lugar es un poco de un agujero en la pared, pero la comida está esencialmente hecha para ser sacada, así que esto no es un factor decisivo. Los empleados son geniales y siempre han sido excepcionalmente amigables conmigo, por lo que recomendaría este restaurante a aquellos que buscan sushi relativamente barato pero de alta calidad.

Todo estaba súper fresca, preparada en el lugar y muy sabrosa. El chef japonés era muy amable y porque era nuestra primera vez allí nos dieron una sorpresa de sushi. No he tenido tan delicioso sushi por un tiempo muy largo. Me hizo sentir como si estuviera en Japón. No puedo recomendar lo suficiente!

Pasé por un almuerzo rápido y pedí un combo nigiri. Thuna y Salmon Nigiri más una bebida a un precio muy razonable. El servicio también fue rápido. La calidad del pescado era buena, Nigiri hecha a mano sobre un arroz esponjoso. Si prioriza la calidad de los alimentos en un lugar de diseño a un precio razonable, lo recomendaría. ¡Volveré pronto!

A small little place, but they make delicious fresh sushi. Most people order to collect, but if you go a little after lunch and sit at a table they'll serve you fresh surprises while you wait!

The food here was really good, would definitely go back and definitely recommend. In the evening they have 25% of all the packaged sushi in the fridge. First-time visitors get a sushi surprise!

Soy de Japón, así que no tenemos estas en casa pero el tempura de gambas, salmón era era crujiente a la parrilla bien justo en la superficie, y en general fue muy buena, no el tipo de sushi tal como lo conocemos, pero es algo diferente y bueno. Parece que no hay una persona japonesa en la cocina, pero a quién le importa. Desea probar sus otras cosas en el futuro si tengo la oportunidad.

Had take-away sushi here toda. Not the best sushi I have ever had, but definitly above what you usually get and for the price ychared really good value. Additonally got a miso soup on the house while I was waiting which was a nice touch.

Having been to Japan for the real thing, and various Japanese restaurants around the world, I'd say the sushi here is fairly good. More westernised than traditional (but also available), they have some tasty combinations and the 'Surprise' is a sushi du jour which is always something interesting and delicious. They also have a loyalty scheme with the Scrummy app.My only gripe is not food related. They recently switched to card only payments, no longer accepting cash. I don't appreciate this decision or sentiment under which it was presented, so this is the only reason which knocks down their service rating in my opinion. Otherwise everything else is good.

Amazing sushi at a great price, I would liken it to Pham Sushi but just slightly better priced, fish was super fresh and every mouthful was a delight.

The sushi here is incredibly tasty and you have many options to choose from. Quality and service are top-notch, but we found the food to be slightly overpriced when eating in. VAT is not included in the prices on the menu and charged only if you're eating in. Will be cheaper if ordering for take away.

Good on the go food, the staff is friendly and sushi's are good. You can also find lots of different beverages to drink with your sushis. Do not plan to stay there the place is really small and not very accomodated to eat.

Small, looks unimpressive from the outside.... But wow, the chef knows what he is doing. I highly recommend getting a selection of the nigiri with the "chefs toppings." He does each one individually and they're all incredible. So many amazing great combinations. Really do gives this place a chance, you won't be sorry!

We ordered a lunch delivery online. It took 2 1/4 hours to arrive, and nobody picks up the phone to chase the order. I didn't expect diabolical service as my surprise.And when it arrived the portions are tiny for the prices..worst of all they scrimp on soy sauce.

Wrong price...end of! Spicy tuna rolls from the fridge were warm. Fridges clearly inadequate for the food they are storing. £3.50 for a tiny pot of spicy edamame. That's 60p more for a tiny sprinkle of spice. Chicken katsu curry in a tiny box for £8.90!!! Really? In K10 it's £6 for a box twice the size and much tastier. This was bland. The most overpriced lunch I've had in a long while. I went out of convenience. Next time I will get my Nike on and go K10 or even Pham Sushi, much much better.

I went to this sushi place tonight again after going last night as well with my friend. It was so delicious, that we'll probably end up going here all the time!We've been living in the neighborhood for a bit and I can safely say that this is the best place around! The sushi is excellent, the staff is super friendly, super fast, and completely affordable. We ordered the dragon roll and the salmon avocado, 16 pieces for around 15£!Definitely love this place!

Petit bar à sushis au cœur de Shoreditch et à moins de 10 minutes à pied de Liverpool Street. C'est le meilleur sushi que j'ai testé à Londres et où les prix sont abordables. C'est principalement un restaurant "à emporter". Ils n'ont que 3 petites tables et si vous voulez manger sur place pensez à réserver. La qualité est vraiment top et tout est fait à la main, en direct et devant vous!Le staff est vraiment sympa, force de proposition et s'intéresse à votre ressenti et à votre expérience. Great little sushi restaurant; they specialise in take away but also have three tables where you can sit down and watch the chef go on about his art; the nigiri selection was very inventive and absolutely delicious; the dragon and rainbow rolls were very good as well; quality of the fish and the cuts are excellent; the staff was extremely friendly, made some good suggestions and we were swiftly served; I will certainly be back!

I've been to quite a few sushi restaurants in London and I have to say after experiencing Sushi Surprise for the first time yesterday I think I've found my favourite. The quality is exceptional especially when you consider the affordable price. If you're a new customer they offer free miso soup and a surprise with your order. The staff were very friendly and I'll definitely be back here again!!! I just hope they'll deliver to Bermondsey ;-)

When walking by you might not take a second glimpse but that would be your loss. The food is absolutely superb, portions are royal and tastewise a real treat. Gyoza, sushi, rolls, sashimi,... It all was perfect.The no alcohol policy is no loss whatsoever. I personally think it might diminish the food experience.The chef, although not japanese, absolutely knows how to trigger tastebuds. Service is very friendly and efficient. A real treat not to miss if you like japanese food!!

It's great little sushi place, kind of hidden away - but absolutely worth finding. In the area, it's the nicest sushi I've had that doesn't cost my entire months' pay.The menu is vast and there are so many veggie options (if you're that way inclined). The choices aren't boring either, they're very imaginative and tasty too. For the rest of us, you should know that the fish is yummy. I had salmon and tuna, both were very good quality. The salmon just melted in my mouth (YUMMMM).The surprise sushi is a great bit of fun too. If it's your first time, make it known and you will get a free miso soup and surprise sushi (they can do a veggie surprise sushi - just let them know).

This was my first time trying sushi so I was a bit apprehensive.. I ordered the 'Classic Collection' (4 Salmon avocado roll, 2 Salmon nigiri, Edamame) and it was really delicious! Very fresh and flavoursome. I ordered online and collected on my lunch break so it was really quick and easy. Will definitely be going there again!

I got a delivery from here tonight using Deliveroo. It came super quickly which is great - however the food itself was a bit of a let down. I ordered chicken katsu curry and salmon sashimi. The sashimi was good quality (although was covered in lime juice which to be honest kind of ruined the flavour). The katsu curry was horrible and bland. I don't think I've ever been so disappointed eating a katsu curry, especially from a restaurant with such good reviews. The box it was in was not shut properly either so it turned up lukewarm which probably didn't help matters. I'd order sashimi/sushi from here again but I'd advise to avoid the hot food if you are getting it delivered.

Since our office moved near Old Street I've tried a number of local places for lunch. Sushi Surprise is certainly the best for sushi, and I'd say best quality sushi in London - made in front of you by the friendly chefs. My favourites are the salmon and roll selection boxes and I often take out or order delivery to work if I'm busy. They offer a 'surprise' and miso soup as part of a package and the best 'surprise' I've had was made with wagyu beef. The only downside is the charge for extra wasabi.

Well worth a lunch time visit. Had the salmon selection box which was most delicious! The ingredients are very well sourced and the salmon tasted top grade. It is also priced very reasonably as far as sushi/London prices go. I would definitely recommend going here!

Had a wonderful experience at Sushi Surprise. Got a nice selection of salmon sushi (my favourite) and as it was my first-time visit I was given a complimentary miso soup as well as a taster on a flamed sushi. All tasted absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!

Found this gem on trip advisor as was at a loose end. Magic. Good value. Great ingredients. Generous sized hand rolls. Prepared by professionals. If your in the area ignore at your peril. You will have missed a gooden.

We were working late and ordered lots of sushi, cheered everyone up. Everything was delicious, really well presented. They even added gluten free soya sauce on request. Will order again for sure.

I called to make sure the restaurant was open on the 31st of December and was told they'd last orders at 16:30, unfortunately I got there at precisely 16:30 and stepped in right as they were changing the sign from open to closed. The Chef was reluctant to serve me but ended up serving me one of the best sushi I have tasted within this budget.Tiny place (it works better for takeaway) Japanese chefs and art in the kitchen. Am returning asap.

I have been to Sushi Surprise a few times for a takeaway lunch and will be back again. Although it is a little bit pricier than say itsu you cannot compare the quality of ingredients and taste. The surprise is always worth the extra £1 and is prepared in front of you by the talented and really friendly chef. The sushi packs are big enough to fill you up at lunchtime and are always a little bit different. I had the vegetarian one today just for a change and it was delicious - rolls with basil, asparagus, crunchy veg and avocado.

I booked through the website expecting a full blown restaurant, and was unsure when I arrived seeing a very small, takeaway-style place. However my doubt soon dissipated when the wonderful chef served us first with a really tasty Sushi Surprise! The rest of our meal followed with a consistent high standard of freshness, taste and presentation along with attentive service.Will definitely be back next time I am in the area :)

it's called suprise sushi and therefore I should not have been suprised by the fact it was a very mixed bag. Their sashimi was delicious although didn't feel the same about the sushi rolls. We had quite a broad mix, and do enjoy the idea of getting a surprise bit of sushi allowing you to potentially try something different. Would give another go.

the title says it all - fresh, delicious, yummie and superb value. you try it and will not eat sushi made anywhere else

After reading all the reviews on trip advisor, I thought this place would like the authentic sushi you get back home. Not even near but was good and not great as the title suggests. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, they tried to point is in the right direction but wasn't overly impressed with the food. May give them another try in the future.

If you're looking for something fast, cheap and tasty, this is your place. Although it's small and has very few tables (two), I enjoyed very much the experience - having a surprise in the shape of Japanese food it's fantastic! You can tell they take care of the smallest detail regarding to the food and its flavour. Price is also very good. Definitely, I'll repeat again.

I visited Sushi surprise with my boyfriend a couple of nights ago. I just decided to go because I saw on Tripadvisor that it had a lot of positive reviews. We expected it to be more a restaurant as you are able to book a table from its website, but it is a small take away place with a couple of tables. We were the only people and we have been treated better than in any other sushi restaurant in London. We have been served by a super nice guy who prepared what we ordered in front of us and explained very carefully what everything was. We love sushi and we have been to many many places. So believe me when I say this is the best sushi I've had in London. Go there!!

I had lunch here, i got the premium roll selection & roll section. Both were delicious and fresh. Value was very good for the quality (comparable to Itsu). Customer service was also great and friendly. I'd highly recommend searching this place out.

Don't be deceived by the basic shopfront, Sushi Surprise serves some of the best sushi in the area. I have been here several times on weekends, and it is consistently good. Whilst the food does take a little longer than most places to arrive, it is well worth waiting for, and the result is a testament to the skill, care and attention to detail of the chef.It's mostly a takeaway place, but if you wish to sit down, get here early as there are only a few seats.

Upon arrival we where sceptical about the small "take away" looking restaurant. However that disappeared when we took a leap of faith and where pleasantly surprised when the staff went the extra mile to not only recommend a better sushi deal but also topping and amazing extras to make our dish that much more delicious.

My colleague and I tried this place for the first time today and it is brilliant! We were given a welcome reception, free miso soup and sushi surprise which was delicious. The lady who served us and the male chef out front were both very friendly and chatty. We had a roll selection of 12 pieces and each one was tasty and fresh, the price was very reasonable and I would always favour this over Itsu or wasabi from now. Highly recommended

Went here on a bit of a whim a Saturday ago. It was a detour I am glad I took as it lead to the discovery of this reasonably priced and cheerful sushi restaurant. The menu is simple (as it should be) and you are given a wide berth of sushi to pick from. Their prices are very fair, so you can fill yourself up with delicious sushi without it costing you a mortgage. What set it out was the customer service; the chef gave us individual attention and you could tell he loved his craft through his knowledge and expertise in preparing the food. I believe it is a fairly busy place at lunch times during the weekdays, but on an a calm Saturday it made for a pleasant experience. Definitely will be visiting again as it turned out to be a nice sushi surprise :)

A refreshing change from the vapid chains, this sushi place fits well with the Shoreditch vibe. The lunchtime special consists of any box of sushi with a free miso soup and a surprise. The sushi is very fresh, full of flavour, decent quality ingredients including the rice are used. The miso soup is also very good. The surprise consists of the sushi chef freshly preparing a unique individual piece of sushi for you to enjoy in the store. It's a great idea and very reasonably priced for the quality and compared to the mediocre competitors. I definitely recommend this place.

Today was my first visit - Salmon and Avocado selection. So fresh. So good. Amongst the best I've tried. What's so good??? The rice - nice texture and nice temperature (I can't stand refrigerator cold rice) The salmon - good size, melt in the mouth, and again, good temperatureThe staff/chef - really friendly, great serviceThe surprise - today it was tuna nigiri with shiso topping. Although the rice was a bit too warm, the tuna and shiso was yummy! Expensive for daily lunch out.... but definitely worth it for a special treat. The quality is there! Definitely recommended!

Great food , great service, great price, definitely worth visiting! The restaurant is newly opened and at a quiet corner near Liverpool street. There aren't many tables and quite quiet on weekends which makes it so good as you are probably the only table to be served. The sushi is just amazing and the price is not expensive at all and worth every penny. Definitely gonna visit again!

I've lived in London, Los Angeles & Sydney and eaten a lot of sushi in all of these places. This is the BEST sushi I've ever had the pleasure of eating. It's a lunch place (sushi boxes, etc.), if only they opened a full blown restaurant!

It was a small shop and kind of obscure if you're not really paying attention. About 10 mins walk from Liverpool Street station, give or take. The chef was really friendly and the service was impeccable.The sushi was very fresh, all of it prepared in the front of house. Quite enjoyed the sushi and the little surprise. As a student, this was definitely affordable and I did not feel guilty about going for a second round because every bite was so worth it! Even got a takeaway for my friends at home. Will come again when I am back in London!

Sushi Surprise is a little gem. It is the details that stand out. The Chef is engaged on both sides of the counter - he also prepares a extra surprise while you pay, of which no two have yet been the same on my increasingly numerous visits. My only challenge is working out how many times in a week I can justify a visit.

I passed this one day walking to Shoreditch and thought I should check it out when I had time. Lucky I did! I went back the next day and had a chat with the owners. I bought some take away sushi for lunch and went back to work. Wow! I was back as soon as I had finished and was ordering again. The sushi was a tad more expensive than your classic wasabi/itsu but there is a reason for that! If you are not in a rush it can be made fresh in front of you and it really is great. The attention to detail is also a great feature. The owners don't like the taste of soy sauce from small sachets so they painstakingly transfer from a large supplier they trust into tiny little bottles! My attached picture cost £8.80 which is a very reasonable amount. Their lunch boxes run up to £22. Please do check them out so I can make sure they are still open when I return to work!
