Sushea in Mendip

It’s rare to find Asian cuisine done so perfectly in this region, but we found it. What an incredible little hidden gem Sushea is (although maybe not so hidden as they were pretty busy, especially given it was an off peak Sunday night in Newquay). My partner and I shared Udon Noodles, Gyozas, Curry, Sushi and bao buns…. All absolutely exceptional, packed with umami. I myself have worked in high end Asian restaurants whilst living in Australia and eating here transported me right back to it. Great ambience and lovely attentive staff too. We live a couple of hours drive away in Devon, but would drive back just to eat there again, and we will! Johnny & Jade.

Absolutely blown away by our first visit to Sushea in Newquay – and as locals, we’re genuinely kicking ourselves for not discovering this gem sooner! We started with the chicken and vegetable gyoza dumplings, which were perfectly crisp and packed with flavour, alongside a side of kimchi that had just the right kick. For mains, we tucked into the Sriracha prawn and avocado maki (so fresh and punchy), a beautifully done tuna nigiri plate, and the absolute showstopper – the BBQ char siu pork grits golden java curry. Rich, comforting, and full of depth – every bite was unreal. The service was spot on – warm, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. You can tell the team genuinely care about what they do, and it shows in both the atmosphere and the quality of the food. This place is an absolute must-visit if you’re in Newquay – whether you’re local or just passing through. We’re already planning our next trip back!

We had a lovely evening at sushea! Atmosphere was lovely, service was great and the waitress and chef were extremely friendly. We ordered sushi, roti taco and pork curry and all tasted great! Very reasonably priced for delicious food. Would recommend and will come again!

What a find! Delicious Japanese cuisine all made to order and so amazingly fresh. The tuna sushi literally melted in my mouth and the ramen was the best ever!! Definitely returning for more! Catered for my coeliac diet effortlessly too.

We only discovered Sushea a week before; we’d been eating at the Boat House regularly but never walked further along Fore Street. We both love Asian food and love the Australian take on it - Japanese, Korean, Indian; it all goes together. There’s loads on the menu, from small dishes to mains and plenty of drinks too. I had a roti taco - crispy Indian flat bread filled with Korean squid and a great fresh, minty salad with a citrus dressing and chilli and mayo. Tracey has a salmon poke bowl with looked superb; really fresh with loads of ingredients. We also had some maki rolls and tuna nigiri. Everything was spot on and we’ll be back to try the food we didn’t have this time. Octopus balls, bao buns, more sushi, curries, Yakitori … it’ll take us a few visits

Whilst in Newquay you must visit this place if you like Asian inspired food. We dropped in on the off chance before the end of our holiday in Cornwall and so glad we made the time, they accommodated really quickly. The menu was incredible and felt like we ordered about half of it but we just couldn’t decide as everything looked so good! 😍 Everything was amazing. And the staff were incredible too including Brontë and a chap that we didn’t catch his name… But he knocked up some sauce for our child as he’s a big Katsu fan! Thank You, you made his day! Will 100% be back when we’re in Newquay!

Ordered online and sat enjoying their very own cider while I waited outside. As a side note, the cider is amazing! Unfortunately, the bottom of the bag gave way while walking back to where we were staying. Devastatingly, I lost a ramen to the street which the restaurant very generously refunded and replaced. Our order consisted of char sui ramen, char sui golden java curry, a selection of seafood maki and a selection of meat maki. The food was incredibly fresh and tasty. Thanks to all at Sushea for providing such a great service, we will definitely return!

Food was amazing! huge noodle salad buns and sushi! Definitely worth a visit while in Newquay. A much needed healthy meal to balance out the pasty diet!

Really cool little restaurant in the middle of town. Loads of different beers to try and the food was amazing. After the meal we had tea in a very cool metal tea pot. Thanks for a great night.

We visited on Easter Sunday for our later afternoon-early evening meal - the food was so fresh and really tasty. Lovely staff, very welcoming and would absolutely recommend this place - we make a point of coming each time we come to Newquay.

i have to commend the owner for not only amazing food but i lovely atmosphere, staff were so friendly and the food came out fairly quickly. Very impressed i shall be back soon

Popped in for lunch with my partner and our dog. Sushi was fabulous, boa buns delicious and the nagiri was awesome. Only nag is I wish they had a better drinks selection, while I like kombucha and all that jazz my partner isn’t privy to it as much! Return anytime it was delicious

Had dinner here for two at around 6.30pm. Ordered Udon vegan tempeh and pure veggie mushrooms and rice. Fantastic food, bags of flavour and very well presented. Staff are really friendly and the setting is really cosy. Went away full and satisfied!

Quick service, reasonably priced, food was excellent, cosy atmosphere and cheerful music that wasn't too loud! We had all vegan options too which was great! :)

Delicious food. Gutted we never got to go back here as when we went we weren’t very hungry and the food was amazing and everything that was brought to surrounding tables looked incredible too! Will be back!

We first tried Sushea last year whilst holidaying near Newquay, but his year we stayed in Polperro but travelled back to Newquay as we had to eat here again! Delicious food presented so well. Would recommend all day long! See you next year

Another delicious visit to sushea. I always order too much but always manage to finish. Tried something new today along with my usual okonomiyaki, the roti taco with squid. Amazing. And the three year old will back me up.

We didn’t plan to eat out but felt we couldn’t miss out. No booking ahead Very small area to eat inside but we’re lucky enough to find a break in the rain & sat outside. Quick service with really good tasty Asian fusion dishes at good price. I would definitely recommend trying it.

We popped in for a take away. They had no sushi left as it had been a very busy day so we went for the gyoza and bao buns. Both absolutely delicious, probably the best guozas I’ve had. Friendly staff. Would love to come back and eat in.

This was very very nice and not overly expensive. (although 6.10 for a beer in the can, was a bit much but it was a premium beer), the cost of the beer however won't take away how fantastic the meal was. I had the beef...

What amazing food as always, I thought the roti taco (beef) was stunning, partner had chicken poke bowl and son had cucumber maki… always one of our favourite food places in Newquay and would highly recommended!
