Terrible service, wouldnt take order from bar or table. Had to use a app. App was not straight forward. Ordered a burger meal with a free drink. Couldn't order free drink on app. Asked about free drink with meal, staff would not except that app was wrong. So no drink. No knifes & forks on table had to find from another table. Food was just thrown in front of us. Food cold. No customer service. Avoid.

I have let the dust settle so I can write a balanced review I have been coming to Surf Bay every year with Friends for the last 8 years. We are a group of about 8. We come outside of the school holidays This review ( although is for 2024) is generally applicable to most recent years. Despite the poor review you will read - We ate breakfast here everyday for 4 days ( the below review could apply to anyone of these days ) On arrival - No one is there to greet you at the front desk - I usually gave up and hailed down a worker in the restaurant to say we wanted a table On one occasion - the restaurant was virtually empty - I asked if we could sit on a long table that sits about 10 people - The front of house told me that would not be possible in case a large group arrived. I politely said it was about 10:30 a.m and that only about 5 tables were currently taken. Could we please sit on the larger table - She advised this would not be possible. Waiter service is pretty bad . on more than one visit , i watched a couple of families leave , fed up with the wait ( bearing in mind ) there were a very limited number of customers in the restaurant. Ordering was quite painful. We learned once we ordered - it was better to go the cupboard to get our tea cup ourselves rather than wait 15 minutes for staff to bring them over. We all usually ordered breakfast - Genuinely - 50% of the time the items ordered for the breakfast were wrong Some of the staff were nice. Others were quite abrupt and came across as having poor customer skills - Particularly one young lady who was quite senior -She always seemed to have the hump . but seemed to be laughing and joking on her fag breaks. Food was of an average standard. The whole place needs an injection of efficiency / pride / care / a can do attitude. I wouldnt recommend this restaurant if you are hungry and dont want to wait an hour to receive your food

Nothing special average menu over priced for just warm food waitress was lovely and friendly though I must say my chips barely warm scampi not much better kids food was hot no salad garnish or wedge of lemon with mine desserts were lovely I just expect hot food nicely presented this wasn't The waitress did change my chips without any argument and was extremely friendly

I took my two children to this restaurant for a quick dinner. However, we had to wait for about 10 minutes before someone acknowledged us and gave us a table. The service was extremely slow, and the staff seemed very inattentive and unfriendly. It felt like they might all have been having a bad day. As for the food, it was terrible. It seemed far from fresh and appeared to have come from a frozen food supplier (Bidfood or 3663). To make matters worse, when our food finally arrived, it was not what we had ordered. When we politely pointed this out to the waiter, she just rolled her eyes, walked back to the kitchen, and did not return with any explanation! To top it off, the dessert that my children ordered to share, which was supposed to have fruits and chocolate sauce for a whopping £14.95, was a complete disappointment. The apple and banana were oxidized and turned brown, and everything on the plates looked very unappetizing. This entire experience was a letdown, and I can confidently say that we will not be returning.

Extreme slow service, food came out burnt. Shame it’s pretty much the only place to eat through out the day as you have no other options!

Lovely venue. Staff was a bit docile. The food was average and overpriced for what you get. But I guess when you’re hungry you will eat it regardless

Reading the reviews we weren’t sure whether to try. But I’m so glad we did. The food was fantastic. The staff were very friendly. The restaurant was clean and tidy. Don’t let the bad reviews put you off trying it. We would definitely recommend and we might go again tomorrow for a meal there for our last night here.

We came here forgetting to read reviews as I normally do when attending a new restaurant. The staff that seated us were very friendly , our waitress that took our drinks and starter order could have livened up abit, our starter came out after 10 minutes and no drinks. We waited after we had the average nachos starter and still no drinks, we finally got drinks after 20minutes. It was not very busy as there were a lot of free tables around us. We then got our mains instantly after the drinks came out. The mixed grill was terrible, steak was like rubber and the so called gammon was like a thick bit of bacon. The peas where the best part of the meal, The spicy chicken pasta was not spicy and was lukewarm. It looked liked a meal a year 7 student produced in cooking lessons. We ate what we could , paid and left. We should have left after the starter.

Lovely place, we went a few times during our stay , food always spot on and staff always polite and attentive . Definitely recommend

After reading the reviews, as a family we were slightly sceptical but we loved this restaurant! Food was delicious and service was great! Also highly recommend the oceania colada! Also a massive shout out to the lady on the front desk who greeted us (I want to say Paige but I could be wrong!) but she was very helpful in getting us a table of 8 instead 2 x tables of 4. If we return to Haven - we would return back to this restaurant!

This place has potential. Arrived on time. Seated promptly. Would say it was half full of customers. Nice lady took our drinks orders within minutes and about 5 mins later took our order for starters. The menu was a good town centre style pub menu. 30 mins had passes and our starters had arrived but still no drink. 45 mins passes and we'd finished our starters and drinks arrived. 5 mins later mains arrived and thats the last we saw of our waitress. No checkback..no second drink..no pudding..no tip. We had to walk up to the waitress kiosk just to pay. Id never wish this on anyone. My mixed grill was piled on..steak over cooked and cold..chicken was dryer than a saharan flip flop but still ate all but the chicken.

Absolutely awful food. Had hunters chicken that was so dry and stringy that the knife struggled to cut it and also burnt on the bottom, there is char grilled and then there was this. Cheese was like a layer of rubber over rock hard bacon. Should have been concerned when the food arrived 5 minutes after ordering it. Son had Spaghetti and the meat was cold on that as well. Spoke to server because it was so bad only to be told she’s sorry to hear that . Not as sorry as I was for wasting my money and my families evening.

Service was ok, easy to book and could accomodate our party of 10, however, that’s where the positives end. Our drinks came out after our starters, the presentation of the dishes were awful, some were luke warm, and some of the added extras were missing. The worst thing of all was the barking dogs, i understand it is a dog friendly resort, but i don’t want to eat dinner surrounded by barking dogs, it’s like trying to have a meal at Crufts. Don’t waste your money

Having read the scathing reviews that have come before us, we nearly cancelled but boy are we glad we didn’t. We were a family of 5 and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more attentive. There were a couple of issues with our orders but when we raised awareness they couldn’t have been more helpful and righted the wrongs as well as took a meal off of our bill. It was yummy. I think there is a bit of a staffing issue in cornwall in general and these guys were hitting the ball out of the park on a busy change over day and still smiling. Food was yummy, service was great… for a caravan park restaurant I was really pleasantly surprised. Make your own minds up xx

It's a shame because it could be so nice, a friendly guy greeted us and took us to the table, the place for children is great quick easy. But for us grit your teeth and smile, the chips were tripled cooked but no potato. The "Vegan" chicken burger is made with Quorn which has egg in. The sheeze is vegan and the mayo but not the fillet. The scampi was so small. Greatful for the 2 for £15 because would not have paid full price. Finally think the chef may have been in rush or half asleep don't know but the pizza for a child,the pizza was upside down as in they cooked the tomato and cheese on the wrong side!! Never again but glad to experienced.

It was just meh. Slightly overdone steak on the mixed grill, gammon that was realistically thick bacon, ribs were a bit dry and the chips were cold. All in all, decidedly average. Not worth the money. Gammon or bacon? See photo

Low grade Restaurant just like a weatherspoons but dearer avoid at all costs bad service dogs now allowed so you need to be careful of hygiene

Staff were friendly and polite despite clearly having had an extremely busy weekend and also having just dealt with a very disgruntled party before us. Food was reasonably priced and came out extremely quickly. Got what you paid for. Actual venue interior is cool. However cleanliness was an issue.. glasses were filthy round the rim (we didnt notice initially and had straws luckily) , menus covered in food and table really could have done with more thorough wipe down between covers.

I wouldn't recommend the brownie as it was very dry and they didn't make it was ship in and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone as wasn't happy and definitely not worth the money

Wonderful food and good value for money. When we visited our dog was a puppy and he was made welcome and could sit with us outside undercover with overhead heaters if needed. Would recommend booking especially if going at peak time. Staff were all friendly...

I have always had a great experience at the Surfbay restaurant. Staff are always friendly & polite, the food is really good. For my recent visit I just had a simple burger, which was lovely.

Dinner was lovely had the steak and chips, staff were lovely and friendly, service was a little slow but worth the wait.

Pre booked for Sunday lunch as advertised, turned up and shown to table and I enquired if all the Sunday lunch choices were available. I fancied Turkey, Oh no, the waitress said we sold out ages ago!I understand how difficult ordering must be at the moment but this restaurant is on a Haven site and they must know how many guests are checked in. We left.

Staying on the site and as the weather was awful we didn’t want to venture too far, so booked a table here for lunch.On our arrival I walked through the door via the designated one way system, to be greeted with a walkway where at the end two members of staff suddenly stared at me as though I was something they had stepped in on the bottom of their shoe.Confused I said I had a table booked, to which I got the reply “okay, do you have a face covering?”. Of course, my mistake, I completely forgot the new covid legislation had come into place today regarding wearing a covering except when eating or drinking, so I apologised and quickly put my mask on- however, a couple of things on this point- I was absolutely nowhere near a single other person, easily well over 2 metres away. Also, there were NO reminders anywhere, mistakes can be made and of the two members of staff on the entrance, one of them was wearing a mask under their nose and inside out, and the other had no face covering on at all- I could be wrong here but I’m sure the rules changed to include staff members too?In an almost empty, very large & spacious restaurant, we were sat in very close proximity to every other customer in the restaurant at that time. There is no way we were 2 metres away from the family next to us.We then waited for 15 minutes until someone came and asked for a drinks order, and that was only after I asked a member of staff if we could place one, after I had tried to get his attention twice previously whilst he continued with his own conversation. It was 40 minutes before our one course lunch arrived.I was really looking forward to the food, the menu sounded really good. However, despite looking appetising it wasn’t great. It was okay, and as my other half described it- “a Wetherspoons by the sea”. I guess that’s what you are paying for “the sea” bit. The freshest part of the meal were the sweet potato fries. I almost cracked a tooth on my “toasted” sourdough and the seafood chowder arrived with a skin on top to accompany it.If that wasn’t enough the constant shouting and inappropriate singing coming from staff members either on the restaurant floor or in the kitchen should finish it off nicely for you. When you can travel a few minutes down the road and experience such incredible fresh food, I really wouldn’t waste your money here.

Had a smashing time at this restaurant last night. The waitress was delightful. The food was hot, fresh and absolutely delicious. Such an unexpected gem of a place. Really did not expect a lot from a caravan restaurant! My steak was one of the best steaks I have ever had out and really tender, flavoursome and large! (And decent price at £15!) The chips were out of this world and we also had sweet potato chips which were magnificent! Every single thing was perfect. My children really enjoyed their spag bol and it was huge and it was the little kids portion! I think they have done really well with the kids menu as it's stuff children actually want to eat and not over processed rubbish. Fantastic. Fantastic. Can't fault it. Would love to return.

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the menu. We ate on site 3 times during our stay and enjoyed each time. I have to say that the Turf and surf was the best I have ever had. The prawns, scallop, squid and steak were all cooked perfectly, and the accompaniments perfect. A definite must should you be lucky enough to visit.

My wife and i had a lovely meal. I am gluten free and Erin the waitress was superb and guided me through what I could have. Excellent member of staff, put the customer first. Well done Erin.

Incredibly personable and hilarious staff members served truly delicious food. Didn't have the highest expectations as a restaurant on a caravan site but honestly it was really incredibly high standard. The dishes were creative and true to the local area and were executed so amazingly. The staff were going above and beyond and seemed just really lovely genuine people definitely deserve a big pat on the back!Felt completely safe and would recommend as a very covid compliant place. We are a large group and due to covid restrictions were placed on 2 separate tables which often happens to us so definitely not phased by it. We swapped in and out as to not be apart from eachother for the whole meal but the staff were completely accomodating and patient with the back and forth! If you are visiting Perran Sands definitely book yourself here you don't want to miss out. P.s the playlist was sick

Terrible experience, we were sat outside in a covered area as we were with our dog. There was minimal lighting and we couldn’t see what we were eating. After an hour waiting for our starter we complained and were then ignored for a bit, but couldn’t be moved inside because of the dog. We had to ask for cutlery when the food finally arrived. The most common words overheard from the staff were “I’m really sorry, there’s nothing I can do” when dealing with other customers nearby. Absolutely awful - avoid

Booked for lunch for five, taking advantage of Boris’s meal offer. Have been several times before and always enjoyed our meal, but this time was exceptional, both for service and food, with the added advantage of having £50 discount. This meal would rate with any high end restaurant.

The restaurant itself is cozy and the theme and atmosphere is brilliant. The food was incredible. I had a rather large burger and my partner had a sea food pasta, both where delicious, would deffinatly recommend (very filling). The staff where so happy and cheerful their smiles where contagious. We had a server called Greg who was phenomenal, very happy and super nice we left feeling full, satisfied and very happy. Would 100% recommend.

Just ordered 2 margherita pizzas and both were amazing, I asked well done and was actually listened to. I will definitely order again, if was spot on.

This is the second year we've stayed a week at Perran Sands and yet again Surf Bay surprised us with the quality and variety of their food. From pastas, fish and grills along with a decent children's menu it is far better than a standard pub or bar that you'd expect on a holiday site.We ate dinner 4 times there during the week and in particular the main muscles, seafood pasta and sharing nachos were all great. My daughter had a good choice which also included a couple of pasta options and pizza which meant it didn't have to be chips every time!On top of this the serving staff were all excellent. Despite it was coming to the end of season they were all friendly, attentive and helpful.Overall if you're staying at Haven then you should definitely go to Surf Bay!

The service was appalling. Would not go back. They did not know what a sweet.was. Asked for a desert menu nobody brought one over. Waited a long time for our meal. We were going to walk out. Paid the bill and complained. I missed out on our deserts.

Popped in on th off chance to get lunch,Our Restuarant host (Nathen) was very attentive without being in your face,very pleasent and chatty,served us promptly and without a rush.The steaks my wife and myself had (Sirlion) were of very good quality well worth the price,food was hot and well presented,as were the drinks.

We had a standard breakfast which was a Full English... there was nothing Full about it! I think a child would struggle to be full on the portions. Staff were friendly, toilets clean however this was 9.30 am so hardly time to get dirty! Go to Morrisons and grab your own breakfast it will be alot more filling.

Went into surf bay in the morning to ask what times they were doing carvery to be told two sittings today first one till 3pm and 2nd one starts at 5pm so great we new it was to much of a rush to get in by 3pm as children wanted to go swimming so we decided to go at 5pm well we got up there with 3 starving children to be told sorry no more carvery today even though we had been told different earlyer that day totally gutted as promised the children carvery and that's what they all wanted thanks surf bay for ruining our evening I then had to contend with 3 very upset and hungry children rubbish organisation

Whilst staying in a caravan on the Haven site we visited this restaurant a few times with friends and family and as a couple. The food was fantastic and I would definitely recomend the Sunday lunch carvery. Despite some of the shops and takeaways on site being quite expensive I felt the food here was reasonably priced. The staff were also a highlight it was towards the end of the season but they were still smiling and full of energy and always happy to help.

Stayed with Haven for a week, chose an ideal week, weather wise.Food at the Surf Bay perfectly good, not fine dining, but it is, what it is.Not the biggest of men's but if your hungry, this will do.Staff very friendly, drinks a little expensive, pint of Carling over £4? A little excessive for a basic lager or is it a case there are no other bars offering a cheaper price. You do have the sports bar and the club, but the same price.All in all, a great stay - Surf Bay just made eating a little easier.

Food was served freshly made and well presented. The restaurant itself can become a little noisy at times but the staff coped well. On one visit we had the Sunday carvery once the little ones had gotten over the fact that no mashed potatoes were being served the meal was lovely and good value.The meals are a little more expensive than other Haven sites we have used but the quality has been far better here. The chowder was stuff that dreams are made of. They take bookings for groups of over 10 guests otherwise just show up. The carvery on Sunday is popular so it’s best to be on the earlier side from 12 onwards.

Very nice restaurant. Lot of choice of different types of meal and cornish specialities served. Excellent fish from crab, to scallops, calamari, cod and more. Really large portions and nicely presented. The staff is extremely polite and quick. We'll definitely come back.

I've got to say we came here Saturday 24th of August for lunch we've had fried squid strips with garlic start I had sirloin steak and my partner had salmon fillet with mushrooms olives potatoes in a beautiful sauce and it was one of the best meals we've had in a very very long time

Been here a few times, not sure why I keep returning, probably because of the limited options on site. Slow service, even when half empty. Others coming in after we’re getting served before us. The portions were very small, and the orange juice is heavily watered down.

We ate here daily during our stay at Perran Sands either at lunchtime or in the evening. We always found the staff were pleasant and helpful and the food to be of a good standard. Lovely covered outdoor eating area that welcomes dogs, this was a massive plus for for us as all to often as a dog owner you feel like an inconvenience.

Ate here most days whilst on holiday can honestly say food was lovely. Hot fresh cooked food loads of choice wait times not to long considering they were busy staff lovely and freindly and it was nice as due to us having our dogs with us we could actually go out for food instead of a takeaway as they welcomed dogs in the outside eating area. Just watch out for seagulls as they were always lurking around awaiting to get their dinner

Great food, served quickly with a friendly face. Try the mussels or the Sunday roast, both excellent. Nice to drop in for a quiet drink if the entertainment gets too much.

I have eaten here twice now and sadly it is everything you'd expect from a restaurant on a chain holiday camp. The first time I visited, I had the beefburger and ended up violently ill. The second time we visited we had a two for one on the chicken tikka masala and it came out lukewarm. There is a fun camper van in the restaurant which can be booked for a novel dining experience for parties but this too is at a price. Both times we visited the restaurants were virtually empty which probably says a lot about the quality of the food. The staff were all exceptionally helpful and friendly but if you're looking for quality food, i would look somewhere else.

Loved it in there, excellent layout and structure. Food was good and portions were generous. Would be good if you could tip on the card machine. Fast and Efficient Service. More choice over where you can sit would be nice instead of walking half way around the restaurant to some table.

We have just had 10 days on Perran Sands. The on-site restaurant was amazing. We rocked up unannounced 16 of us, 11 adults 5 children. They couldn’t do enough for us. The food was wonderful, the potted crab fabulous. We ate in there on four or five occasions and the service was 5 star. Thanks guys, keep it up, your doing a great job.

We've come away as a large family group (14 members) with the intention of spending time together eating, talking & so on but with the only vegan option being a bean burger (how 90s) we won't be able to do that in the surf bay. With all the vegan options available now & a full kitchen of staff to boot, I can not find a single reason why Haven have chosen not to cater for the growing number of vegans who come to stay with them.

We decided to eat here on the first night of our break. Unable to book a tabel (you need to be a party of 10or more when asked), we arrived at 8pm and were seated immediately. Drinks order placed and received, we selected our meal. Crab pate and chicken bites to start with and chowder and surf and turf to follow. Used to the averageness of Mash and Barrel, we were delighted to try this new, locally sourced- orientated restaurant. And we were surprised and pleased with the quality of the food. Tasty and not the usual Haven fare, would recommend you try it. Staff were friendly and attentive and happy to help.

Ate while on holiday and i must say that this is the most shocking service i have ever had. Quickly shown to our table and left. First drink did not take to long and food order shortly after. Food came out in good time and was cooked lovely. It was the waitresses who had the i dont care attitude and boy did she have attitude. After the first drink we had to keep finding someone to ask. They were just stood by the tills talking. After our mains we waiting ages until giving up and finding someone for puddings. Our dirty mains plates left on the table. After she took our order i asked for the table to be cleared. Puddings served and still plates on table. Asked again. Puddings finished and still no clearing of plates. I again had to find someone to ask for bill. When the girl brought the bill she then stood looking over my shoulder waiting. Now i may be wrong but dont most people want to check the bill before paying. I was left feeling very uncomfortable. I handed over my money and off the waitress went. Ahe never however gave me any change. Again i thought i would get this back not for her to keep it. I have never been in a restaurant where they stand and watch you as the bill is looked at, not unless i say so keep the change. Terrible service

Went for a meal at the surfbay restaurant for the second time last night. Again the meals came quickly and plates were cleaned by all! The salmon was so tasty and an unusual but perfect combination of flavours. Roasted salmon on a bed of olives, chorizo, green pesto and sautéed potatoes. I will be trying this when I get home. The fish in the photo is a child’s portion and cost. On the first visit I had the Bay chowder which was also lovely. The surroundings are lovely and staff are very friendly and helpful. Playground just outside for the children and you can even book to have your meal inside a campavan named Alfie if that floats your boat! Nice for younger children.

I went on a weekday lunch so it was quiet yet when it came to paying waiter took a long time to get to us despite the waitress already having cleared our table quickly. I was then accused of not paying when I paid cash plus a tip included so I haven't been back since.

I booked a table for 15 of us, as this restaurant gets busy. We were greeted by Luke (the duty manager) and his team. The service was outstanding and food was fantastic. If any local restaurants/pubs are struggling to get people in, visit this place and learn how to do it right. These guys know everything about how to make good food and how to look after their customers. Top marks. Will be back again for sure. Thank you

Great food and great staff the meals were hot and delicious and filling the staff were extremely helpful and friendly highly recommend eating here while on holiday x

Me, my partner and our baby had an evening meal here and while my partners meal was by all accounts delicious, mine was not. He had the crab and I had the Cajun chicken pasta. The pasta was not very nice and I didn’t finish it. I had the crepe for dessert but when it came it was two small pre made shop style pancakes. Was very disappointed.

We had a meal there on the first day. Very friendly staff, it was a little while before we were served, and a little wait for the drinks to arrive. We both enjoyed our meals.

Food was great. Good sized portions, hot and served in a good time. The have a camper van that you can eat in. You have to pre book this but good for kids entertainment

We always book to have a meal in Alfie (an actual old campervan inside the restaurant!) every time we come to Perran Sands, it's one of the high lights of our visits, the kids and the man child look forward to it. The food was as perfect as ever apart from our rare steaks being closer to medium than rare but the meal was still as enjoyable as ever and we have a fantastic evening! The service was spot on and we highly recommend paying this place a visit!

We went here a couple times during our stay for breakfast & dinner. Both were enjoyable with good service & reasonable prices. Nice layout inside & there's also a bar.

Food was ok here. Error with our ordered was quickly rectified. Kids food was quite reasonable, the wraps came with a lot to fill it.
