Beefeater in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Told us the first payment failed, despite us showing the transaction pending on our bank insisted on taking it again. both payments were taken and now making it seriously hard work to get refund 3 weeks later. A chain like beefeater should be able to look at the facts and just refund when a mistake is made. has left a very sour taste from what was a nice meal.

Pretty disappointed to say the least and I didn’t have high expectations I expected just basic food but believe customer service it what makes or breaks anything - we spent a night at the adjoining premier inn - thought we would grab some basic grub that evening - the woman who ‘greeted’ us, and I use that term loosely, didn’t break a smile and was incredibly uninviting - after 45 minutes waiting for food I went to find out where it was and was told we would be next - when it came out half of it was cold. The following morning had a similar ‘greeting’ from the man who met us ‘have you booked?’ I said no we are staying next door ‘well have you got it included or something’ I confirmed I had already paid he then just pointed at a table for us to go to- that was it! If you want anything other than white scrambled eggs with the cooked breakfast you have to ordered them!

Poor menu options on Easter Sunday, we can understand the roast might have run out, but no veg or fish? The staff couldn't have apologised enough or been as friendly but ultimately in an Easter weekend food shouldn't run out!

Had really nice lunch, food was excellent, staff working very hard and cheerful.

Breakfast buffet was ok, we were late in the day for breakfast which never helps the food quality. It certainly would have been better earlier in the day.

Booked a table for breakfast...wasn't ready...tables had to be moved to accommodate 5 of us...unlimited breakfast but hardly any items available...very slow to replenish...yes it was busy but should be able to acknowledge this...staff on avoidance.attitude problem..swearing going on from staff for all to hear....the food was of good quality but would of been nice if you could have items all together..oh..no plates..were told to use shallow bowls...which would of been good if at least warm...needs a lot of work there !!!

Went for Mother’s Day / Birthday weekend the travel inn is ok staff behind desk there very helpful. Beefeater however was not great at 7.30 in the morning a male member of staff was extremely rude , because the coffee machine was broken in the restaurant and he was behind the bar next to a ready to go coffee machine we asked if we could have one we were quite loudly told no if I do for you I will have to do it for everyone else , also it’s not good for customers to hear at 7.30 in the morning that he can’t wait for 5 o clock . The plates at breakfast were cold and food lukewarm .

In our experience Beefeaters can be a bit hit & miss but this one is up there with the best of them!! We arrived without a booking on a soggy Saturday afternoon, and were greeted most pleasantly by a lovely lady who showed us to our table very promptly with minimal fuss, which is very at odds with our previous experience at Beefeaters, not that it's a problem, quite the opposite, we were delighted. And we were treated to a wonderful meal, beautifully prepared & presented by staff who clearly cared and took pride in what they did & how they did it. I have a feeling that this will be our go to eatery when in the Truro area again. We'll done Beefeater Carnon Downs, top job, you should be proud!!

Good food,good service,nice and clean, would recommend and return, The unlimited breakfast at £9.99 is fantastic value,tried most of the starters and they are lovely,the ribs and chicken are tasty so is the burgers,but avoid fish and chips,my fish was very greasy and the batter was solid.

Great staff, upgraded our steak, the steak was beautiful and tasted wonderful, food wait time wasn't long and overall it was a brilliant experience, would highly recommend.

Lunch time and trying somewhere new, didn't disappoint, I had the beef roast and the wife had the lamb roast, both excellent, will be returning.

Ben and all the team were outstanding, couldn't do enough and the food was amazing. Thank you we will definitely be back

Shocking experience,we sent both our meals back. I had very overcooked, dry chicken & my husband only ate about 1/4 of his ribeye steak as is was so tough

After waiting forever for our food,It came out cold and missing 1/2 the stuff we ordered, the manager offered a fresh lot and when asked how long will it be he said "I don't know 🤷". I wish I read the other reviews and gone to maccies 😫

We came here to Cornwall for a funeral and this place just made it a whole lot sadder, I have no idea what the scramble egg was and don't think there was any egg in it, the pancakes were cold and tasteless. The coffee machine was broken the first day and came out with the wrong coffee and the plates and bowls were definitely dirty. We stayed at the premier Inn next to it and booked breakfast and yet they told us we needed to book a table separately, I mean breakfast with no seats or table does not sound fun but the staff were quite nice. However I agree with the other reviews, you're better off going to Macdonald's.

Service was very slow as we had to wait over an hour to get our meals. Food was good generally.

Absolutely awful customer service. Think it was the manager. Rude, unfriendly, slow, attitude was awful. I love writing good reviews for places I go. But this experience today. I asked for couple more sugars please,, you would have thought I had asked her for her kidney. She was coughing all over the place, please you that ill wear a mask 😷. The coffee was weak and luke warm. The other staff that popped out, had very unhappy vibe. Obviously having a manager with horrid approach to customers and her job will obviously filter down to the team.

Do not order 'Smothered chicken melt'. My food was delivered on a plate with a sheet of greasy brown paper between food and plate. First impression of food was, it looked unappetising. I then found that the chicken was completely dried out, difficult to cut and inedible. The fies served with the meal were barely lukewarm and soon cold. I rejected the food and fortunately I was not charged for it. I used to enjoy Beefeater, but this experience has put me off returning.

Was nice, but a bit cold and only 2 waiters so a bit of a wait and not in order of entry...

The food is as expected, not always the quickest when it comes to replenishment of food and drinks, possibly short of staff? When asked, the staff were helpful, just a shame they aren't able to stay on top of cleaning down after people leave and topping up food and drink. Still £9.99 all you can eat breakfast and kids eat free is a bargain in today's financial climate. In short, Meh...would go again. 👍

All good, especially the staff. Some other customers were complaining that the room was cold and indeed the radiators were cold but it didn't spoil our experience.

Food good, although received a fatty steak was cooked as requested and was received in a timely fashion, hot and appetising. The reason its not a 5 star is purely due to the lack of service received from our so-called waitress. I don't even know her name as she couldn't even be bothered to say. Let alone check on us or take additional orders. I will return but will refuse to sit in her section. Thank you.

Dirty, with 'interesting' guests going back and forth from the hotel wrapped in towels buying pints of lager to take away. Food was simply reheated, poor quality food. Avoid.

The food here is absolutely awful. Mixed grill was so small uncooked and cold. Not what you expect to get for the price it costs! The roast dinner was so small as well and looked like it was microwaved. The waitress also forgot our starters and sauces. Beefeater used to be so good not sure what has happened to the place.

Breakfast 311223. Party of 8. No sausages, No beans. Minimum hash browns. No fried eggs. Had to ask staff to get this rectified. No spoons. Hot drinks machine not vending. Used to be a good venue, but regrettably failed. 😒 Spoils the dining experience somewhat.

What a disgrace this place was toaster broken, no egg sausage, hb’s or beans when asked how long they would be was advised that he couldn’t give me an answer, so asked if it was 5 mins,10 mins, or an hour he said more than 5 less than 10 waited 20 mins before sausage arrived so had a sausage sandwich and left, as we were leaving the eggs arrived, it was so bad it was funny

DO NOT EAT THERE! "Chief" need to be fired! We went with a fr for dinner, food was served pre heated, very disappointed. Don't waste your money and time! Merry Christmas!

Went to carnon inn for Christmas Eve dinner with family not at all happy with the food I think they should sack the chef if he. Or she is actually a chef Steak cold sent back and replaced with equally cold one that had so much gristle on it it was impossible to swallow Roast turkey bland with no trimmings just served with roast potatoes and peas Supposed to be served with red wine gravy but was actually tomato and basil soup chicken burger thing is all I can describe the other attempt as over cooked I could go on but you get the general idea I did not expect it to be perfect as we had a 33% off voucher Then told the voucher is not valid on this menu but they could break it down instead and charge us an expensive menu price then take the discount off Disappointed yes Feel we were ripped off yes Worse meal I have had in a long time yes Only reason I did not kick off more is because it was Christmas and the waitress had obviously had enough complaints already didn’t want to ruin her Christmas too It was not her fault that she was unfortunately having to serve this appalling food Will I be visiting this establishment again most certainly not I would rather eat out of McDonald’s waste bins I am certainly not the only person who has this problem there are many more I know that from the comments overheard from other tables that evening I hope they actually read this and do something about it so other people don’t have to suffer

For a boxing special lunch it was disastrous Food was cold taste disgusting couldn’t eat it. Wouldn’t recommend it at all

Second time we have been. The service has always been very good. Unfortunately, the quality and availability of the food seems to be very poor. Fried food is very over cooked. Portions are very small.

Went in for the Christmas menu, waited over an hour for drinks and starters to arrive, despite it being early lunchtime and not busy the pate was grey and inedible, the roast was awful potatoes undercooked and soggy veg raw and turkey cold won’t be going back

Service are poor people are nice but food has taken 2 hours to make and then said they messed up and had to start again and wouldn’t come here again.

Met up with friends in the morning for coffee which you have to do yourself from a machine. No cups and was shocked to be charged £7.45 for a coffee and two teas. Absolutely disgusting. Furniture is falling apart and awful atmosphere.

Friendly and nice staff. The food wasn't that great for the money. Would of preferred saving the money and going to Weatherspoons for the same if not better food.

This Beefeater is appalling. Restaurant Inspectors need to pay a visit! We heard so many complaints about food, service and beer. People were being kept waiting for ages to take their booked table. Some beer was not available. Non smiling, stressed looking staff. This is a very poor experience for people visiting Truro and staying in the Premier Inn. We could not eat here as no table was available but were told we could have a drink "if we could find somewhere to sit" !! Yet there were empty tables all around. Please improve.

Food was not at a good standard, either served cold or without all the ingredients , the roast without roast potatoes, no carrots, cold uncooked peas. Sent back a gammon, and it came back burnt. The manager reduced the cost of a gammon meal and one of the roasts. The offer was 2 courses for 18.95 and definitely not worth it, the mince pie looked so sad. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. The wait time was also excessive for food that was clearly not cooked from fresh.

We are a family of 18, visiting for a breakfast birthday, we do this several times a year, but today..wow! Nothing was to much trouble,food was excellent and loads of it, but a special mention to one of the servers Claire, happy, smiley, engaging,A real gem to this restaurant, went out of her way, even getting the chef out to cut the birthday cake ❤️ thankyou Claire xx we will be back.

A disappointing birthday celebration; two of our four meals were very poor. The two roast dinners were barely edible; the roast potatoes were so crisp there wasn’t any potato left and we couldn’t get a fork through the Brussels or parsnips and the Yorkshire pudding was doughy. I used the Ladies of which there were two; one didn’t have a lock and the one that did had a toilet seat that was not attached to the pan and the flush hardly worked unless pumped. To be fair the other two meals were fine and the staff were lovely, but not a good experience overall.

I met my friend for breakfast and the service and food were amazing. The staff were very polite and courteous. Claire was especially friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be going back. The ambiance and warmth made a great start to the weekend. Thanks Claire for such an enjoyable morning x

Used this place while staying in the premier inn the service in particular is not good at all was in there earlier today they kept me waiting 15 minutes for a coffee when I reminded the waitress she went and made me one which was cold I got my money back was in there last night kept waiting by the waitresses while they chatted about Christmas trees when I asked one of them for a a drink she tutted at me they just don’t seem to care

Enjoyed a lunch today from the lunchtime menu. A good selection of dishes at a special price. Well worth it. Special thanks to Wendy who served us today.

So, we had mixed reviews on the table for the food. My steak was cooked to perfection, and accompanying items were good; my son's pizza was burnt, daughter's sausage and mash was "ok", other people's meals were also hit and miss. However, the staff were lovely, attentive and very welcoming. Could not fault them at all.

Food was just edible, poorly presented and cold. Place was almost empty but service was slow Dessert menu was very expensive and again poorly presented Don't Eat Here

Always a good spot for a quick meal and Wendy the waitress is always very efficient and pleasant. We will be back.

Had a mixed grill here today it turned out to be so minamliststic just the stake egg chips chicken and other bits not what I would off liked for the price had to complain as the food was not up to standards as you can see not even any onion rings or many chip chips when looking at other photos it looked good but here is how it come out to me

Staff were excellent, but food was atrocious. The 'chef' made decisions to add bits to meals that aren't listed on menu or supplement ingredients. Had to make complaints, but management was excellent and removed the bad items from the bill

Just the normal Beefeater ,clean good service friendly staff meals ok nothing fancy but good quality and 3 course under £20 each can't go wrong .

Definitely don't recommend. Table of 10 at 16:00 main meals ordered 1 kids pizza burnt has to send back. 1 fish over cooked and dry. Ordered desserts took 45 minutes to come out, the custard was cold! had to be sent back to be heated, not great after waiting 45 minutes. Staff member with blonde hair behind the was extremely RUDE. The pub was empty so it wasn't that they were busy! very poor all round.

As always everything was perfect. We were well looked after by Sheila. Despite her being very busy. Sheila, somehow or other, finds time to talk to us for a short while and is very attentive. Our food was perfectly cooked and presented to us well. This restaurant always has a friendly atmosphere.

We both had a very nice meal at the Beefeater. The staff were welcoming and very friendly and we did not have to wait long for our meals, which arrived hot, fresh and delicious. Everyone was working very hard to make up for the shortage of staff, and made our visit very pleasant nonetheless. Would recommend this restaurant.

We are regular visitors to this Beefeater in Salfords. The food has always been great and the staff are always very helpful and friendly. We went for Sunday Roast on the last occasion and it was great; one of the meals had a little too much fat on the Lamb but our lovely waitress, Jess D, replenished us with some nice lean pieces. We normally eat off the main menu on weekdays and are very happy with the meals and hospitality. Jess D was great on our recent Sunday visit.

If you are looking for a lovely evening, great customer service and hot food then don’t go here….if you want to be shouted and told to GET OUT for daring to ask for your cold replacement meal which you have waited 20 mins then go ahead and book. You won’t be disappointed.. Don’t deserve 1 star but unable to leave a review without.

Decided to here after a show at Hall For Cornwall to make it easier rather than cook when at home. Haven't been here in quite awhile. The staff very friendly not very busy which I can understand after we had the meals. The place lacked any atmosphere no music on except when they opened the kitchen door and I think the chef liked loud music. Food was average. my fries well think all he did was dipped them in the fat enough to get them hot, way not done enough. My ribs where done nicely although there excuse for a salad was a bit of green and couple pieces of sweetcorn. My son said afterwards it was lacking ingredients. My wife didn't think the lasagne she had was not up to the standard of there higher end eateries. Very expensive considering it was only a pub and one of the lower end of Whitbread chain. I doubt we will go back.

Food was okay, although I need to teach the chef how to cook a ribeye medium rare. It was over done. Was a bit disappointed at the amount of chips. However, no roast available which was due to lack.of staff apparently. No three time cooked chips, only French fries. No chocolate sauce which eliminated two of my favourite sweets so didn't bother. I was trying to catch the attention pf three staff standing around at the bar looking at a phone to ask about wi-fi. Very little response initially. However, staff serving at the tables very pleasant.

Booked tablenfor a hig birthday celebration. Our 1st server in silver top, who took drinks orders was miserable, couldn't manage a smile. Drinks were wrong, food was cold, and wring chips on most dinners. When asked if we wanted any saucers, we waited for about 10 minutes, we we had to ask another waitress who then said they had no ramekins, by the time they arrived we had finished. Deserts we ordered and they were cold too. No check backs made on table to see if everything was OK during whole visit. Very disappointed. Team needs to be trained more by management. Won't return sadly.

Nice food but chips only skinny ones and was like eating sticks ordered upgrade but only the small ones arrived and nobody asked is your meal ok sorry but want be coming back

The menu doesn't describe the food properly - the ribs come with a spicy rub applied before they get to the restaurant but the menu doesn't mention this at all. My corn on the cob was soggy and inedible, the extra portion of halloumi to go with the burger went AWOL and the staff look at me confused when I asked for a larger shandy... When asked the staff didn't care and said "that's how it is". Not worth going here even if it was free

Absolutely terrible!Freezing cold restaurant, got drinks order wrong , got food order wrong. No service whatsoever, no wonder there were only two other tables in there. Won’t ever be going back .

Although staff were ok the food was dismal very small portion could count the chips on one hand and burger was something you would expect for a kiddies meal, place could do with a refurb. We’ve used Beefeater here and other places over the years but this one has dropped in both quality and size of meals enormously, Won’t be using this one again unless it improves dramatically !

Went for dinner on a way to a show in Truro. We ordered from the special offers menu and had starters and main courses. The calamari was shocking, greasy, lumps of raw chilli and not the calamari rings that you would expect, but small whole looking octopus! (see photo). We also ordered mushrooms, which had been over fried, served burnt and full of cooking oil! Main courses bland with my wife's steak full of fat. Waiting staff very friendly, but not so good at the bar when trying to get a drinks re-fill... One lady actually walked away from her food, after taking one look at it and deciding not to bother. Considering it's nothing special, I felt that it was fairly expensive for what it was, but I feel this could be because it's attached to a Premier Inn...

Had a lovely meal 😋 ribeye steak 🥩 tender and cooked how I wanted it

Lovely welcome from the staff who were really attentive, polite, but professional. Both had sirloin steaks, chips, onion rings, tomatoes, mushrooms, and I had peppercorn sauce. Steak cooked medium and was perfect. I had churro sundae, and he had apple pie and ice cream. A pint and a refillable diet coke (yep after those chips and puds) and came in at £62. Booked at 9.54 for 2nd visit at 15.30. Received a call an hour later telling me "We're not doing food today." No explanation, apology, suggestion of an alternative day. Just silence. So I suggested "I'd better cancel my booking then" and they hung up and seconds later I got an email confirmation of the cancellation. Someone needs some training. I understand there was no local alternative but at least say sorry.

10/10 Michelle at the barn in Milton Keynes is brilliant .. smile on her face and willing to help you out at any time..top class

Very expensive for what you get food was disgusting tasteless wouldn’t give too my dog ,terrible service between courses ,sticky tables would not recommend,one of the worse meals I’ve ever had

We're real ale drinkers really and we only saw two options but still it was a pleasant place to visit, food was really good although they did get my order wrong 🤷

Good steaks but service slow good for eating outside excellent facilities friendly staff but overstretched A nice meal great not to be hurried but waited 40 min for dessert. Very quiet few diners weekday.

Two lunches for £12.99 in a lovely garden.

. Looked online to book, showed nothing available, as we were 10 minutes away we chanced it and just turned up anyway. When we arrived we found the pub to be least half empty? . Shown our seat, waited 25 minutes before our server came,...

What a horrendous experience. Walk to the stench of urine from the uncleaned toilets, Sat within ten feet of this and served basically raw fillet steak when I asked for medium. There is rate and then there is RAW and cold. Next morning for breakfast not much better with no coffee, no orange juice, and an empty hot food counter for ages while one poor lady went back and forth to the kitchen rather than get help. Avoid this if you stay at the premier inn and find a local pub.

The Worst Beefeater in the UK by a long shot. Stay around the country with work eating at Beefeater across the country. Chicken goujons bathed in old oil for weeks I'm sure. Confident the Steak wasn't steak. Think it was some roadkill from the car...

I eat in beefeater restaurants every week, this is just awful. I travel the UK with my job ..Dont eat here you will waste your money. Shut it down and retrain your staff. Disgusting..

Waited and waited for about 30 mins for drinks, 2 other tables were then served before us even although they arrived 10 - 15 mins after us, when enquiry made was told that the waiter would make them himself. As he went to do so,...

Cooked English breakfast with no bacon! I'm not sure egg was in the scrambled egg, fried eggs were awol. The pastries where blow touched then left to go cold. Fruit might have come out of a can or just been left to shrivel up. Mislabelled orange juice (it was tropical but pale orange in colour) The staff were lovely, apologising and working hard. If you stay at the Premier Inn avoided the Beefeater, waste of money and time for the breakfast. Right I'm off to find a mcdonalds, good luck to anyone who tries the Beefeater in Carnon Down

Service could have been quicker at times, and the food was adequate. Photo of my smothered chicken, which was small attached. Deserts were disappointing. Long wait and Kit Kat Sundae was not topped with Kit Kat, and the ice cream in the banoffee desert was liquid.

The food was cold, oily and no taste at all. The rubes were disgusting and the coleslaw was outdated!! As the first time eating here we are really disappointed. Never ever going back!! Avoid !!

Booked a table online for 9pm and got there early and was told the kitchen closed at 8pm. Had our whole day planned with this being the last part of our day and not only that. This was my birthday meal out and too late to find an alternative. Complete and utter waste of time. Find somewhere else if you'd like a Nice evening meal out 😡

Went here today after staying here and got refused breakfast because they was short staffed had 2 hungry kids now have to travel somewhere to feed them. Absolutely disgusting

Waitress went above and beyond her role.

They only had one staff member serving lunches on the day of our visit, she was stressed and sharp with people, she turned 4 lots of people away while we were waiting for food saying she was on her own and couldn't cope any more.... surely it would have been better to have closed the doors with a sign explaining the situation rather than putting her and customers through the anguish. When the food eventually arrived it was stone cold, had obviously been sitting for a long time, without some of the stated vegetables and inedible..... I wished I had been one of those 'lucky' people turned away! I won't bother again!!! I should add that my comments are usually positive but nothing positive to report here i'm afraid.

Standard beefeater, food is not perfect but staff is great!

Almost certainly the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Service is terrible and they don’t care. Food is either burnt, dry, undercooked, tasteless and frankly belongs in the bin. There’s a McDonalds ten mins down the road, do yourself a favour, go there!

We booked and paid for our breakfast on arrival at the Premier Inn the night before. We were even given a choice of breakfast slot. All very nice. That is, until we arrived for breakfast. There was a massive queue waiting to be seated. No...

Rubbish, only cater to the hotel next door travelled an hour just for them to tell us they only serve hotel guests, ridiculous!!!

A pleasant visit. We arrived at an after wedding party. So we enjoyed it. You serve yourself, so technically, no service, but they were there if you needed assistance and were very helpful then.

Avoid at all costs terrible service and well below average food. The duty manager firstly served the dregs of a barrel of doombar. When I asked her to change it her attitude was unbelievably rude. Having waited over an hour for our food, the waitress...

A quick stop on the way back, my steak was warm and quickly got cold and very very chewy, the chips were hot so I'm guessing it was sat for a while before the chips were added. Mediocre food for me but for the others I can't comment for them. Cheesecake was yum though.
