Sure Fry in Brighton and Hove

I tried it again recently having been disappointed before, and it was so good that I went back again a couple of weeks later and was again impressed with the fish and chips.

Biggest regret making an order to this place! I think this place needs trading standards because it’s rotten! The food is absolutely vile. How you are still running I don’t know, I honestly think I may have food poisoning been throwing up and on the toilet since eating this last night. AVOID⚠️AT ALL COST⚠️SAVE YOUR MONEY 💰

An absolute shambles of a chip shop. Ordered food for myself and children as an end of week treat. It took over 2 hours for the delivery, we are literally 10 mins away. The phone number they have advertised is cut off so you cannot chase or cancel your order once placed. What arrived was absolutely horrid and had to be thrown away. The batter tasted foul. The sausages and savaloy were both still raw in the middle and as for what they called chips buggers belief. Obviously fried more than once and soggy and tasted as though they had just been sat in dirty oil. All was delivered absolutely freezing. Ended up having to order from somewhere else. Waste of money. Can't believe it's still open and used to be honest.

hugely overpriced £3.80 for small chips £3.00 for a battersd sausage no atmosphere in the place £17.00 for three sausages and two chips

If I could give this zero I would! It’s 4am and Im in bed very sick. Thrown up and been on the toilet with extreme stomach ache. Please read the reviews before you order as I should have done!! 😭😭😭

Shocking! Should be shut down or given to people that actually care about food. It amazes me how this particular fish an chip shop is able to sell any food. People have a right to know an not waste thier money. Hope you can dramatically improve or at least stop. Apologies for bad review but seriously it's a shockingly bad 👎

Food was late. I called the shop they couldn’t find my order(?!?) Food eventually arrived and was inedible. Chips and sausage disgusting the pineapple fritter looked like a soggy foetus. the one star was for the mushy peas so at least I know they could open a can and use a microwave probably the worse takeaway I’ve ever had and being disabled and home most of the time I’ve had a lot

The chips have been great every time. Delivery with their own driver was over an hour late today via deliveroo. That’s forgivable but they were kind of rude on the phone. Saying it’s on the way when I hadn’t even told them which order was mine

Ordered over £20 worth got the wrong drink sent then they took my money for a battered cremem egg that never came i rang them they said well they don't have that but instead of marking it unavailable or replacing it with something else they just allow you to order it then don't bother to send it won't be ordering again either mark it as unavailable or actually have items in stock oh and the gherkin is vile looks 3 years old a little something to add the manager obviously kept my address as he came to my front door banging on it after I left this review which I'm sure isn't allowed

I’m absolutely discussed I sent my son to this chip shop to get him, his brother and dad some chips and 2 battered sausage and a wrap I gave them £20 and my son came back saying that he couldn’t get himself anything as he didn’t have enough so 2 small chips a battered sausage and a small wrap end up costing me £20 NEVER AGAIN 😡

Local chippy, freshly cooked food, reasonable prices and friendly staff. They do all sorts not just basic fish and chips.

Overpriced food. Well overcooked, or refried chips, and a pie hardly warm. This place used to be amazing and then the owners changed. I would avoid this place if there is anywhere nearer open and if you are ordering online definitely go somewhere else.

Over 2 hours wait. Driver marked order as delivered 45 mins before it actually was. Then the order was wrong (and cold). Shocking service. Don't waste your money. Use Fillets instead.

Ordered 2 hours ago, keep being told its on its way and now not answering the phone. Very happy to take the money though ( only £30, but I will be expecting a full refund tomorrow) DO NOT USE THIS PLACE. TERRIBLE SERVICE. IT STILL HASNT ARRIVED AND I AM CONSIDERING GOING TO BED.....AVOID!!

Awful food , my daughter came up in hives this morning after Eating here last night , I complained about the cold food warmed up and not fresh , the gentleman working there admitted its not fresh but laughed and said" its not cold"! ... I explained you can get very ill from not heating food up , he took a sausage back and said he'd make fresh whilst I waited in my car / he obviously put it in microwave as it was the same sausage lol .... anyway I and my family will not ever be eating here again , plus am in doctors room right now waiting for my 4 year old to be seen , if it comes back that it's from this chip shop il be taking it to health and safety

Disgusted by the staff. Got half of my order wrong. Food turned up stone cold and full of grease even the kids meal. When aware of how much they messed up they hung up the call. No refund. No replacement. Do not go here this was a joke.

The best fish and chips in town

Awful experience. We ordered on deliveroo, waited for 2 hours and it never came. Rang the company, couldn’t hear what they were saying and they told us the food was already here whilst we’re sat here empty handed. Our order was not complicated, just different types of sausage and chips. Do not order.

terrible place, do not order from here, 2 hours later and we are still waiting, went through deliveroo to get a refund and the restaurant won’t even answer. Not helpful when you call. A scam

Only had the chips. But it was really quick and they do the chips separate to the fish so gluten free and veggie.

I order my food well over 2 hours ago! I had to ring the restaurant 4 times to find out where it was as every time they would make an excuse and say it was 2 mins away! After receiving my food being told it’s fresh, there something fatty and hard on the chicken strips, my chips are cold and we’ll the burger looks like it was microwaved. Absolutely awful. Avoid!

Average fish and chips, extensive menu beyond this

Ordered via UberEats, 1hr and a half later, order still not arrived. Called the store, met with a blunt worker the other side. Explained that I'm still waiting, gave my details and they claimed it was delivered 30 minutes ago, obviously wasn't delivered, I asked can they contact the driver and they refused. After some back and forth I gave up, I will be pursuing a refund with UberEats and failing that my bank. Scam. Used to be alright for food, like others have said in reviews, hardly worth rating if it never arrives.

An absolutely awful experience. Ordered and waited 2 hours for the food to arrive. When I called the restaurant they were extremely unhelpful and eventually stopped answering. The delivery driver dropped the food on the doorstep. Food was subpar- not even properly battered cod. Avoid if you want a stress free midweek takeaway- Seagulls in Hove is much better.

Disgusting. Ordered for my three kids as a mid week treat. It’s 9pm the food has not arrived despite ordering it at 7pm. The kids have gone to sleep very disappointed after waiting hours for no food to show up. Awful service will not answer calls and rude man hangs up when they do.

Really really slow delivery, over 2 hours. Restaurant were rude and unhelpful and food was below average.

It took a long time to come and when I got it was greasy and horrible. Was actually inedible, chips manky came out of wrapper in on greasy blob. WOULDNT GIVE TO MY DOG £12 to throw straight in the bin. AVOID THIS PLACE

On average this place do a good job. When the fish batter is crisp and flakey it's great. Sometimes it's not, must be busy or a different cook certain days. Saveloy is a little bland, needs more salt like most places in Brighton. They all must have the same supplier? Cajun fries are great. I'm in Kemptown so I've had no issues with deliveroo orders arriving cold

This restaurant is a scam I’ve been waiting for the food for over 2 hours and after waiting for them they don’t deliver the food they don’t answer the phone and they put the delivery status as delivered even though the food did not arrive and I never received anything do not order from this restaurant there’s a possibility your food won’t arrive

not sure why there's lots of lower star reviews. they'd put me off trying despite it being my local and honestly, had a small cod and it was super tasty and well cooked, ready in 1 min after arriving. great size for the price and majority fish than batter (ideal). tartar sauce was lovely. make your own judgements tbh!

Worst delivery of my life. Tried phoning but person on the other end had loud music and would not respond to me audibly. Terrible service, unfriendly staff. They're ten mintues down the road and yet food took 2 hours to arrive after it was dispatched. I had a very simple meal so was disgusted at mistreatment. Food was awful.

Placed our order and they kept cancelling the order even though we was paying the delivery charge. Don’t order from here just scammers and when you confront them they hang up on you and leave there phone engaged. Disgusting!!!

We have used this place for sometime and found it very reasonable in the past but stopped using as pretty hopeless this year. Forced to use last Monday as many chippies closed Mondays. My wife ordered and asked for the pensioners discount. She said the phone answerer had very little English & didn't understand. When picking up I pointed out the discount as advertised on their wall of £7 for small fish & chips for OAPS The server said that we should have told him when ordering as the small fish for pensioners was smaller than a small fish for none pensioners. After some wrangling he gave me £2.30 back. Chips ok but fish very greasy. AVOID

They cancelled my order without an explanation, when I tried to call I was hung up on before any words were exchanged. This happened three times. It's a shame the food is quite good but unobtainable food doesn't really accomplish much.

Ordered a fish and chips. The fish was so soaked in oil and it wasn’t holding together at all (literally falling in pieces) Very disappointing

Truly dreadful food. Huss was all brown meat, batter was greasy. Sausage in batter- sausage was almost white , such a low meat content, absolutely tasteless, the batter was soft, no crisp at all, you could actually use it for origami! The chips were cold, greasy and not cooked in the middle. Mushy peas were ok but difficult not to be able to open a tin and microwave. I vomited within 2 hours of eating. I went to speak to them in person rather than leave a bad review but they were not really interested, they insisted they had never had a complaint before despite me pointing out their many online negative reviews. No resolution. I sadly won’t return.

Lovely chippy and friendly staff, not sure if the guy is the owner but he's got a cracking memory, never writes the order down, takes everything in that you want and always gets the order right 👍🏻

Absolutely shocking after waiting 2 hours for food orderd via uber eats I called multiple times and they hung up without answering or just let it ring. So I went down to see what's going on the staff seemed to think there's not a problem and stated to make the food. While I was waiting I was looking at the dried out burgers with sweaty cheese on them in the top heater I questioned the quality they said its fine when i got back the fish tasted off and smelt bad the the cream cheese tasted like soure milk i chucked the hole order in the bin how this is place hasn't been shut down I don't know if u value your life do not eat here I'd rather pick up a dead seagull of the road and eat it raw then walk in this place again I dread to think what their hygiene is like please replace this shop with a decent one

Ordered food today from these absolute joke of a firm not only did food take 2hrs 15mins to get to me the place doesn't answer any calls I ordered a wrap meal and some popcorn chicken the wrap was in such a state where it had sweated to the tinfoil I wouldn't feed it to my dog the chips that came with the wrap meal where oil sodden and the popcorn chicken were like little rock grenades if I could rate it zero stars I would absolute joke I would never recommend or order from these shambles of a firm as long as I live

Your food will be late and the order will be wrong I made the mistake of ordering from this place more than once. 1st delivery was 2 hours late, I have never received an entirely correct order. Strangely they don't have half advertised stock and will make substitutions eg last time I received a bag of deepfried mushrooms instead of a vegi burger

Looked like it had been sitting for hours when opened. Went in the bin. On top of that was overcharged and the fella behind the counter barely looked up at any point. Give it a miss, much much better options close by

I am 6 months pregnant and struggling to leave house. Called up and got horrible attitude on the phone and wouldn't accept my delivery and then proceeded to cancel my order. Very very poor service and unprofessional.

Delivery is terrible. Food is always cold when I get it. And then they don't pick up the phone when u ring to ask them where they are. They also don't track their drivers so gl figuring out where your food is. Eating in is terrible as well. Highly recommend to not go here. By far, the worst fish and chips shop I've been to/ordered from.

If you do order make sure you use just eat or similar as they will offer the refund. We ordered this evening 15.04.2022 everyone's main came except myself a simple beef and onion pie. Called the business they didn't seem to care about the issues and didn't care they made a mistake no apology or nothing and took firm words for them to agree to send out missing item. We are now an hour and half after that call and nothing has been received. So they just say what you want to hear to get you off the phone least just eat will give us the refund cause clearly going direct to this business they would just keep your money.

Very hit and miss kind of place. Decided to downgrade to a one star as for the first time we had a item missing from the order.. Called to discover an answer machine stating I'm not allowed to leave a message goodbye and when eventually got through discovered a rude worker stating it would take another 45 minutes to deliver an item missing... Now I believe the most recent reviews for this place and it's shocking how true they are

Lovely food, halloumi and chicken wrap was really nice with a creamy sauce and crisp salad. Cheesy chips didn't have much flavour but that's typical for fish and chip shops, and still tasty. Churros was a fun extra, not seen that much!

Sadly this was a good chippy but it's definitely gone down hill the order last night was the worst I've had from here portion of chips, a plain jumbo sausage, kids chicken nuggets and a pot of mushy peas £10.70 !! The chips were really dry, the nuggets were horrible to quote my 6 Yr old and the peas were really vinegary the only really edible thing was the sausage!! Won't be going there any more Very disappointed

Do not bother. Been waiting for over two hours. Called and they told me the driver just left and would be 5 minutes. It's been 40 since then. Refused any refunds on just eat. Not sure if it's even going to turn up.

Absolute bunch of muppets, do not use these mugs! Ordered through uber eats at 3:00pm, app gave a suggested timeframe of 3:35 - 3:55pm. 4pm comes and still no delivery, so tried to call them, straight to voicemail. Used the "request an update" option on the app, no update given. Used it again, no update still. Called them again, straight to voicemail. Called again at 4.30pm, and this time they answered!!! Muggiest of mugs said my order will be another 15 - 20 mins. So I waited, no mugs arrived with my order. Requested another update on the app, and still no update. This little "when will my food arrive" game went on till 5:45pm and then I called again, and they answered, but as soon as I complained that my order has taken 3 hours, and asked how much longer they are going to be as the other half is going to work shortly, the muggiest of mugs from mugland on the other end of the phone's response was "do you want to cancel"! Absolute mug, no apology or anything, 3 hours is long enough, be quicker for me to go and grow the spuds myself and make my own bloody chips than let these mugs sort out my food. Mugs.

I wish this place was good as it is near us but it is poor. For example if you order a pasty it is heated in the microwave in the packet and the food is very greasy at times. There is also zero awareness of covid and staff never seem to wear masks when preparing food and delivery drivers / customers aren't expected to either, even when this had been advised by the government. All round I wouldn’t trust it these days.

Order online with Just Eat , big mistake. After waiting 1 hour 15 minutes advised order had been delivered!! Order never received. Restaurant wouldn't answer phone. Eventually food turned up after being driven around for an hour. I had, in meantime placed order with another Restaurant using Deliveroo. Was enjoying this meal when first order turned up almost 2 hours after being. placed. Rude delivery driver was very angry I didn't want his cold Fish and Chips. No refund provided and Just Eat say they get back within 14 days! AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AND JUST EAT YOU WILL REGRET

Swimming in grease, chips covered in black bits where the oil was so old and nearly three hours from ordering to delivery. This place is a health hazard and shouldn’t be serving food, it was so disgusting it went in the bin. Avoid at all costs

This place had appalling service, we still have not been given our order and it has been 3 hours. Whenever we have tried to contact them they will not pick up there phone. This is ridiculous! Unless you're wanting to spend some money on something you'll never receive, Sure Fry will be the best place to go! For your information this place has the worse organization and staff management.

This used to be so reliable for good fish and chips. Nowadays however this is far from true. The fish I had recently was covered in very greasy batter and there was little fish inside. The chips were better but I'd look elsewhere if you want some decent fish and chips.

Ordered through Food hub , estimated time was 30-45 minutes. Its been 2.5 hours and my food still didnt arrive. I keep calling to track my order they keep saying it will be here in 10 minutes but never does. Terrible shop and terrible costumer service.

Ordered via just eat, they marked the order as delivered when it hadnt even arrived so I tried calling the store 3 times with no answer. Guess who turns up half an hour later after order is marked delivered... Sure Fry! I refused the order and there was obviously some confusion as the driver asked why I hadnt called the restaurant, but when I explained that I *tried to* they understood. So you earn yourselves back a star. But I am never *ever* ordering from here again. I suggest you dont either if you're reading this.

Good chips - I wish they did a small/one person portion as the standard one is more suitable for 2 people. I don't want to eat re-heated chips or to waste them... I'd go much more often if they did... Perhaps that's a bad idea...

Placed an order in Deliveroo which was accepted. Called 15 minutes after the expected delivery time asking for an update just to be told no, they are too busy to deliver?! Why accept the order and why not call me?? They then didn’t cancel the order through Deliveroo so I had to spend 40 minutes on their live chat to get a refund. Think Sure Fry just want peoples money for nothing!

Came over an hour after the estimated delivery time, upon calling they told my me driver had left (50 minutes before the food actually arrived) and then ignored the rest of my calls. Food was cold and inedible. Don’t waste your money.

Very dissapointed with the service and won't be ordering again. We filed a small order of onion rings and dessert and it didn't arrive until an hour and a half later. We called the restaurant several times: the first time they told us it would be with is 10 minutes... They lied. We called 20 minutes later and they said they would contact the driver and call us back... Yet again, this didn't happen. After a third phone call they finally announced our food was here however they wouldn't come to the door. When we had to go and get it, no appology was said, terrible. Will not be ordering from them again!

I was impressed a few months ago. Good prices, good chips, good portions, close. Today all but ' good chips ' remained true. It was not busy so no excuses. My chips must have been re-fried at least once. They all had a crispy batter like coating and very little potato inside. Is it so difficult to fry potato or does this country need an Academy to get it right? Disapointed

I have only had fish and chips once when it gets delivered in Brighton, the first it was disgusting. This place has changed my opinion. It was 23.10 when my order went through and the food still arrived hot and tasty. I honestly can't complain in any way, I'll be ordering again and recommend you try 👌

First time I've used Sure Fry this evening 6/3/21 Couldn't fault the food in any way. This will be my go to chippy from now on. Very impressed
