Superstar in Wealden

After being a loyal customer for over 30 years, the new owners of this takeaway have lost my business. I drive a 25 mile round trip to buy from Superstar. Tonight when eating the supplid food, which was both incomplete AND not as ordered, a sharp piece of steel wire pierced my tongue. I called them to complain and the response was a joke. As a result, I repacked the food and returned to Heathfield - another 25 miles. The half-wit behind the counter clearly didn't quite get the point so much so that I left with the food AND the piece of metal, with my tongue still bleeding. Trading Standards and Health and Hygene will be visiting after the Easter weekend. Had someone swallowed that curled up sharp metal shard, it could have had very serious if not fatal consequences. Management take note before you kill someone. You should have shut you kitchen immediately and at least checked all your machinery and equipment. Your response was nothing short of criminal. You WILL be hearing from the Environmental Health Inspectors shortly. YOUR choice.

Friendly staff over the phone, lovely food that was Fresh and Tasty, and quick delivery! Even made a special mother's day request, could not have asked for any better!

Pretty grim really, dry tough meat, mushy dishes, chilli beef had no real taste. Duck was from 1999, Ignored a request, whole place stinks of cigarettes.

Tried the food on New Year's Eve for the first time. Very nice flavour and service was great and delivered on time!

I got food from here last night it is the only thing I have had to eat all day yesterday I got a special fried rice an salt an pepper chicken an i have currently got food poisoning off the food would recommend to give this place a miss

The food is absolutely amazing! The portions are very reasonable and the food is very tasty!!! The guys are absolitely amazing and very very friendly and they are like family! ☺

Always get my Chinese from superstar and its usually really nice.I've knocked a couple of stars off due to the chicken within the smoked shredded chicken and the salt and pepper chicken being very dry, tough and chewy and unedible (which was thrown away at a loss of about £13 for both dishes!) The chicken with pineapple - the chicken had a light burnt/overcooked taste but wasn't too bad that I couldn't eat it. I've had better meals from superstar and it's always my go to Chinese takeaway...on this occasion it wasn't as enjoyable as I've previously had

They crispy shedding beef is delicious yummy and I wish I brought two instead of one and they king prawns ball yummy and the people that wrote bad review it ridiculous I been order for a year

Not sure why there's negative reviews. We've been ordering from here for years (20+ years) and it's always been great. The only thing which has changed to my knowledge is that they started doing Thai curries a few years ago and they're great. Our usual order is Special Fried Rice, Pancake Rolls, Sweet and Sour Prawn Balls and extra sweet and sour sauce. I don't think the recipe has ever changed and it's always been delicious. If in doubt I recommend the above.

Sorry Superstar you've gone downhill dramatically. We had two king prawn dishes; prawn chop suey and salt and pepper prawns. Both dishes has not been de-veined and the salt and pepper prawns had a huge amount of undercooked powdery and heavy batter on them. Really not edible at all. We lived in the area for over twenty years and came to you for our monthly treat. I dreamed of coming back and this dream became an inedible nightmare of a reality. What a real shame.

Very disappointed, disgusting, will never order from here again !! Greasy, mushy, very salty and most of the meat was inedible. Binned most of it and had beans on toast !! Really wish I had read the previous reviews. Used to be good - now it's terrible. £25 for one person - never again. Wish I could rate it zero stars, cos it's not worth the one star that you have to give to be able to post a review.

Gave the first one the benefit of doubt but 2nd round can say will definitely not order again!

Ordered some food last night. We ordered various dishes and my boyfriend had the chicken satay, which must have been contaminated or not cooked properly as he spent the entire night and today throwing up. Clearly food poisoning as this was the only thing he’d eaten all day that no one else had eaten and it set in about 6 hours after eating which is consistent with food poisoning. There was 2 pregnant people with us and luckily they weren’t the ones to eat it otherwise it could’ve been a completely different story!

Ordered at 4pm online for 6pm delivery. Didn’t turn up until nearly 6:45. Food was Luke warm. Tried calling superstar several times though either got engaged tone or it just rang off after a while. Gave up and reheated in the microwave as kids had been looking forward to it and needed feeding 😂 Tasted bland and daughters ribs were just bone… basically no meat 🙄 Continued to call superstar and when finally got though, staff were rude and just said they were busy. Totally understand but that’s not okay to send people cold food - it’s not exactly cheap for what it is there. Said if we wanted refund then they would need to come pick it up…. He wasn’t listening when I said we had heated up and eaten some…. Went round in circles… then he hung up on me 👋 Have always used superstar but will never again!

Awful - rude when they get the order wrong and call this a BBQ sauce - tasted worst than bistro chicken gravy!!! Horrendous use golden rice bowl!

Cheap is the only positive….. Prawn balls - dough was uncooked. Generally low standard compared to other oriental takeaways in Heathfield. Delivery time was very poor also. Won’t use again

Had a chicken curry last night, couldn’t eat it as it was so salty, sauce was a much darker colour than it used to be and chips were over cooked. Such a shame as Superstar used to be the best Chinese takeaway around!

We have used this Chinese for the last 20 months and recently have noticed a deterioration in the standard of the food. Having read other reviews, we now realise this is due to a change in ownership and presumably chefs. Tonight we had battered chicken balls - soggy batter, plain noodles - missing flavour, mixed veg - bland and al dente, char Sui pork - fatty and inferior quality to previous. Really disappointed and a waste of money. We will not be using again.

Won't let me review unless I left a star. So no star review. Made both my older children very very sick. Won't visit there again.

horrible they used to be great now new people over taken and they stand on there foods before cooking horrible place to eat

Been to this place a few years ago nothing special very bland back then but loved the chunky duck rolls. Ordered this time same bland rushed Chinese that arrived very quickly but the duck rolls were awful! I split them in half and all I could see was a lot of vegetables and hardly any duck. Really have let this business get even worse than it was before and it seems they don’t really care.

The review at the bottom was written some time ago before it changed hands since then it has gone downhill. Some dishes are still excellent like Kung Po and Singapore noodles, but twice the lemon chicken has been inedible in fact in the point of being tainted. Went in last night and the shop was a tip with boxes everywhere I'm really thinking hard about going back. I am a customer for nearly 20 years. Excellent value, superb quality.

The website says they deliver to TN19 but when you place the order it says out of range. When you phone up they claim it's the middle-man so not their fault, then the person you're talking to claims to be part-time so not to blame. Then they put the phone down.

Really good food, portions sizes are large, quality of the food is great and price is also very good. Tried a few places in the area nothings compared

Delivery was 45 minutes late - no apology. Some of the food was lukewarm, and everything was badly overcooked. Squid dishes were cold and tasteless - could have been rubber covered in soggy cardboard. Very poor value for money.

Poor service, staff were having 3 conversations, with myself trying to place an order, a customer on the phone and other staff members. Once I got home I found 2 dishes were not in the bag, called back up and they knew that dishes were missing, returned to Superstar to collect the forgotten dishes and staff were very unapologetic and gave me 2 cold dishes. Dissatisfied.

Very average, overcooked sweet and sour balls with no sauce, generally overcooked and quite tasteless.

Driving through Heathfield on a long journey and stopped here on the spur of the moment and so glad we did. The best rice and sweet and sour chicken we've had in a long time! Noodles tasted great but are very thin (more like ramen). Service was also awesome, friendly, helpful and quick. We appreciated the free fortune cookies! Thank you.

We haven't had a takeaway from Superstar for many years but decided to give it a go. We usually go to a rival Chinese. Very disappointed in what we had. We tried the appetizers which were just okay. The mains were so bland and lacking in flavour. Chow Mein normally has a smoky taste which wasn't there. The special fried rice was rice with flavourless veg and prawns plonked on top rather than mixed in with some spice. The other mains didn't have a strong flavour making it indistinguishable from each other. There was also a delivery charge added with no choice of collection and as we live only 2 minutes away a bit annoying. I don't like to give negative reviews and rarely have to but if this is the usual offering of Chinese food then best avoided. We won't be returning I'm afraid.

Just had our first delivery from here since moving to Heathfield in September. It was delicious-just like Chinese takeaways used to be before they started buying sauces in! Delivered on time and piping hot!

Food is pretty good, but only given it a 3 star as been trying to get through to place a order and only getting a busy tone, feel like they take the phone off the hook

We love chinese and travel quite a bit and try them out, this looked the best locally and we were VERY impressed. We stayed at an AirBrb locally and ordered a takeaway on our first night. Picked it up, waited for 10 minutes and watched how busy they are, very efficient friendly service with professional delivery drivers. Mixed sweet & sour balls was a huge portion and so well cooked and tasty. We had the special rice with extra meat and vegetables, the cuts of meat were top quality and abundant as we're the king prawns. We both had soups, my hot and sour was by far the best I've had ( And I've had many 😊) And my partners chicken & sweet corn was the same. The salt and pepper spare ribs were also very very good. Will definitely visit again if in the area.

Purchased for the first time here when visiting family. Worst Chinese takeaway I’ve ever had. It went in the bin. All I can say is the food was beyond weird and although I ordered my usual dishes, none of them were like any Chinese takeaway I’ve used before. Also charged for delivery and despite asking for delivery at a certain time, it turned up 35 minutes early.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality and food after an impromptu visit. I ordered a set meal for 1 but having never visited before didn’t know what to expect. The sweet and sour chicken was light and well cooked. The chicken and mushroom had lots of flavour. Great value and tasty too.

Wonderful first takeout from Superstar. Granted we may have slightly over ordered but each dish was wonderful. Couldn't fault it and worth every penny. You've just won a new customer from us!

Literally the worst Chinese meal I’ve ever had. Food was poor quality, the soup was a MSG slop, the meat tasted like fried horse hair. The delivery was by a ten year old child who should have been I bed too. Absolutely awful.

Very poor no decent ice cream and rude staff

Had my third take-away and all have been good with plenty in the containers. Also friendly and helpful staff. Recommend the Peking Style Sweet & Sour.

Waited patiently for a delivery which we were told would be with us within 45mins. After 1 1/4 hours I called and was told 'we got very busy after you ordered and your order was pushed back. The kitchen are on it now and it'll be ready in 20 minutes!! I cancelled the order and went to Yaws. This is not the first time this has happened. Last time we risked Superstar we ordered from a friend's for collection. Arrived after the agreed 20mins and they hadn't even started cooking it! Will not use again.

Ordered our food at 7. 30 was told it would arrive at 8.45 finally arrived at 10pm. Food was ok but after such a Wait we felt peed off

Used to be the best Chinese Takeaway in Heathfield but now they’re always forgetting something in the order. The last 4 times in a row, there has been something large like the aromatic duck missing. And when you call them it’s always “We will get it to you in 20 minutes” or “We’re too busy”. The food is amazing but let down massively by the constant forgotten items.

Very quick service. Meal was ready after 15 minutes from ordering.Friendly staff. Food nice and hot and very good quality. Order carefully as the portions for one are enough for two.I always thought most Chinese take aways would be the same but this is one of the best. I would recommend it.

I love in Hastings but will happily make the trip to Heathfield to get Chinese from Superstar. My very favourite Chinese takeaway in the world, Peking style sweet and sour chicken is highly recommended. Excellent.

We feel very lucky to have this gem of a Chinese take away in Heathfield. The staff are always friendly and efficient on the phone or in the shop, the portions are generous, food is always delivered piping hot and the ingredients have a quality...

We come here fairly regularly - once every few months. Lovely service, quite quick to get the order an tasty food. Would recommend 100%.

The choices of Take away delivery in heathfield is poor. I've had several meals from here. the portions are of a good size and tasty. Also there not too greesy and for a Chinese meal I don't wake up half way through the night desperate for a drink. Delivery is good but a £1.50 charge to deliver your meal a couple of miles when I've spent over £20 seems a bit meen. If there was another take away that delivered and you could order on line is try that but until that happens I'll still use these.

A few years ago this was not good. The ribs were rubbery and rice was tasteless.It was revamped and is now the best in Heathfield. The prices are reasonable and it always looks clean inside.The ribs are now succulent and all dishes we tried were full of flavour.

This was the first time we have used this takeaway and were all very impressed, easy telephone ordering, very quick to have food ready and friendly efficient service. We would make this our first choice for a Chinese locally, the food was hot, extremely tasty and with good portion sizes making it a cut above others we have tried.

Nice, well cooked food at a very affordable price. Delivery to local area's is a bonus in this rural area and they don't charge a fortune.
