Nice tasting food, ordered starter and main dishes, and it all came out together, reasonably priced. Went mid week, and it was empty.

This is our favourite Chinese down south and we eat there regularly! The couple who run it are so lovely, and the food is always good every time we go, dinner or lunch. I especially love the chilli and salt tofu and aubergine and crispy chilli beef and the veg noodles are great too. Just driving past it makes me feel hungry and want to go!!

Best chinease in Sussex easily, it’s crazy delicious a must if you love good food, great service, very reasonable. Try soo many places and after eating here I’d never go anywhere else,

Met a friend for lunch and post Christmas catch up. Booked table fir 12.30, ordered half aromatic duck which was ok but nearly cold. Then was told kitchen closed at 1.30...lemon chicken was slimey, as were the noodles and the rest was just not good! Won't be going back.

Only the second time there - did not want to go after the first experience - but party of 10 went - no one else in there - delays on delivering food and stopped serving drinks at 10pm - will never go back

We had a good takeaway from Prosperity. Delicious ribs, yummy scallops and fluffy rice. Nice spring rolls and great fortune cookies!

Just moved to Coleman’s Hatch and this is our nearest Chinese. Really hoped it would be good, sadly disappointed The rice texture was similar to rise that had been half cooked and sat around all day, definitely not cooked fresh Chicken with garlic, chicken dry and overcooked Kung Po chicken, no chilli at all tasted like sweet and sour Sweet and Sour chicken, very average but again very dry Sweet and Sour King Prawns, the nicest dish, prawns perfectly cooked Sesame Prawn toast, looked like it had been thrown in a deep fat fryer, not very appetising Special Fried Rice, lots of flavour but still the sane problem with the tired rice Filet Steak Cantonese Style, again over cooked and not much meat, flavour ok Very disappointed as hoped we would have a gem on our doorstep. The restaurant was empty, should have been a sign Sorry but based on that take away we won’t be coming back

Nice food and good service. But the beer is not draught as stated, its in a can.

Soft shell crab was delicious. The mains were beef with bean sauce (which was good), and beancurd family style (which was rather bland, with some soya sauce the dish got lifted). Banana fritters were worth definitely worth it, really yum! Maybe beancurd choice was just not the best, still knocked a star cause taste wasn't much there for it.

Two words sum this place up... 'it's Okay'... No crackers were provided as is customary in Chinese restaurants. - and the food was 'okay' - felt artificial as though the food was pre made from a supermarket ready meal... not bad tasting, but certainly not great or fresh by any stretch - it was okay... place deserves 2.5 stars rather than 3. Not a place I would come back to as it didn't feel worthy of a place to go for a nice evening out..

We went for dinner there this evening - slightly bothered having read the previous review. We needn't have been! We had a really fabulous meal, beautifully cooked and presented with great service. This is a great place to enjoy excellent Cantonese cuusine. As we live in France, we have missed great Chinese food and this made it extra special

Nice little Chinese restaurant. Old fashioned decor. Food was tasty - we had the sizzling lamb & spring onions plate & the steak cantonese style - delicious.

Food was really good here but I’ve just had one of the worst take aways ever! The food was old, cold & inedible. Nothing was fresh! The crispy lamb & smoked shredded chicken were both tough & chewy! A waste of £30! Won’t be using prosperity again. Very disappointed ☹️

Great variety and good value. Group of 5 had set menu C with an extra dish of quick fried prawns, all dishes were really tasty.

A friend of mine and I decided to renew our visits to the Prosperity following the easing of the covid lockdown. The service was excellent, the staff friendly and the food first rate - and all at a reasonable price. We will be returning very soon..

I've had some bad Chineses in the past and frankly the three in eg are hit and miss TBH, OK but not great, so we thought we would look a little further a field.Normally going to golden city in Crawley as always top notch but couldn't be bothered to go so far "big mistake" Forest Row we thought close enough, Goog reviews looked not too bad, 'but are not to be trusted',one read consistently good so we thought we would give it a go. Wow, I can't explain how bad it was.. I will try and attach a picture but the smell can't be attached. rancid.. The food looked awful noodles black where the oil had clearly been burnt or maybe there pans are just filthy. The crispy shredded beef was burnt had spring onions and carrots that looked like they were prepared 3 days ago mank and discoloured.. Sweet and sour chicken looked darker then normal! Again can only assume the battered chicken were cooked/fried in filthy old oil. I always give food a go and dont dismiss it without trying it we all know looks can be deceiving but boy I wish I didn't, I tried a bit of everything before I realised the smell wasn't some new kinds of spices and was just plain rank, I had to be sick virtually straight after, I have the worst taste in my mouth that won't go and I've spent £30 for the pleasure.. NEVER AGAIN.. IGNORE THIS AT YOUR PERIL. The pictures probably won't do it justice but trust me just awful! Anyone who likes this place doesn't know what a good Chinese should be like.

Love this local restaurant. Decor is older fashioned, which I like. Ate beef with spring onions and chilli. Wonderful with the plain noodles I chose. All round authentic Chinese restaurant experience.

I live just around the corner so it's very easy to go there. However, I have got 5 takeaway meals so far and haven't been disappointed yet. Great staff, quick service and let me have a Bottle of beer while I wait! What could be better?

poor service, only two staff for a busy night; waited 10 minutes to be offered a drink; my food was over cooked. Have been before but standard has taken a sharp dip. Will not be going again. Staff appeared indifferent

very small main portions, smoked chicken had several bits of grissle in it and so tiny was just like little bits of batter, satay sauce like water and didn't even taste like satay, when I called to say about the woman got funny with me and was very rude.

Never been the best place but usually you get an OK meal. Tonight was just foul and makes me think I will never go back. I ordered a takeaway. The prawns weren't cooked though and the dishes tasted absolutely foul!Don't think the staff cared one bit when I returned the meal.

Probably one of the worst I’ve ever had, cost a fair bit more than I usually pay too. Crispy beef is so crispy you may lose a tooth. Mains are packed out with veg there is barely meat in sight. Won’t return.

The worst Chinese food I have ever seen. We took the food back it was so bad and the staff were extremely rude, even telling us they hated us after finally giving us a refund.

This restaurant has a lovely relaxing atmosphere and is set in the heart of Forest Row. The food is good value and quality. This is a great place for a quiet evening out.

Kept waiting at table as staff more interested taking take out orders. Food average served on cold plates - rice was under cooked - steak dish - where’s the steak !!!!under too many onions - really disappointed 😐

Kiki, Philip and Nancy made the visit very welcoming. The service was very efficient and friendly. The large soft shell crab with chilli and salt was absolutely delicious. Sweet chilli beef was crispy and slightly sweet. Yum! Highly recommended!

I've recently eaten here again for the first time in almost 20 years! It is still a lovely place with good food.

Haven’t eaten in the restaurant for a while, although have had a few takeaways, so it was nice to revisit with friends on Saturday, and as usual the service and our mix of dishes was very good. They do not normally serve salad but as one of our party is on a diet they were happy to make a simple green salad to go with a Cantonese style steak, and slightly changed the sauce on the steak to a less “calorific” one, which was very kind of them. There is a good choice of options on the menu, all the staff are very friendly with just the right amount of attentiveness. We did notice that it was not very busy which is unusual, but this may have been down to the bad weather or the number of other eateries in Forest Row. Do not be put off though; it is certainly not the service or food that is the issue.

Nice Chinese food from prosperity. But not very hot and we live quite close by; Used to be much better - this was on a Saturday night so, no excuse really. Maybe a change of chef is needed?!

It is really nice cosy place to eat, The service was really good and the food delicious, a party of about 12 mostly children celebrating a birthday were really enjoying their meal, They cook well for all ages

The food is reminiscent of the food you get at those noodle bars and Chinese outlets in food halls but unfortunately their food tastes better. Prosperity you need to update your game, your menu, your chef and your decor otherwise your business will disappear. These days there are great opportunities for Asian fusion and there is a market in Forest Row but the market for old style Chinese food cooked as you do is disappearing.

We have been regular visitors to Prosperity for years. The staff are wonderful and helpful and the food is delicious!

I've given this place 6 chances and never commented on the really below average food quality as am local and hoped it'd improve- but really guys- time you up'd your game significantly- I'm now embarrassed to say I got take away from your establishment - I'm afraid I s time to change or lose local customers

Tried this chinese tonight, awful, the mains are packed out with vegetables there is barely any meat, the satay chicken tasted just like curry, the crispy chilli beef was dry and chalky, the portions were poor, the quality was awful, the curry sauce was very watery and tasteless. I wouldnt go back there again, go to East grinstead Evergreen!

We went with two little people, who now want to eat Chinese all of the time. The staff are delightful, and the food is fabulous. For the longest time we thought this was just take out, but have found a new local place to visit more often.

After moving into a new house and having friends visit, we tried this out, as it was local & the good reviews on here. In comparison to what we had before in london, we was disappointed & 2 of us were ill in the night....Won't be returning, shame as its the only one local to our new countryside location.

I have visited this restaurant many times over the years. Without exception the food has always been excellent and really good value for money. They offer a wide choice of colourful Cantonese dishes served in a relaxed environment by friendly staff. The decor could be improved to be more appropriate for a Cantonese restaurant but this is a small point.Kathy

The best chicken sweet and sour i never ate

My family have been using the Prosperity since it first opened, many years ago. It is always a firm favourite for any occasion, both to eat in or as a take away. My sons, who left home years ago, still rate the crispy chillie beef as the best and score that dish around the world in relation to Prosperity gold standard! When asked where he wanted to have his 18th birthday dinner my younger son's instant reply was "the Prosperity", and he had eaten in many good restaurants around the world. My granddaughter now continues the tradition and at 3 always asks if she can have crispy duck with pancakes when she visits grandma. Always delicious flavours, always plentiful portions and friendly service and greeting.

An inexpensive lunch for the hungry traveller-pretty tasty duck and pancakes, very good grilled prawns Beijing style.

The service was good the owners were very friendly. We had a set meal with 3 courses the starter was nice, bit heavy on the sugar for my liking but was nice. Duck pancakes was yummy. Main they very kindly swooped the rice for noodles which was really good as lots of places won't do that with set menu. It was tasty and filling with plenty for my teenage niece to take home for the next day. Good value and a nice little place.

First time eating at Prosperity, the food was absolutely amazing, however I was slightly disappointed with the Hong Kong style Noodles as they were undercooked. Service was brilliant, really lovely staff, friendly and helpful. Me and my partner will definitely be returning. 100% recommend.

I discovered this lovely restaurant when I first moved here. Been picking up take out ever since. Everything is yummy. Love their noodles and they make the best lemon chicken around. Great takeout on a Friday night.

Most dissatisfying, not enough pancakes for crispy duck. Squid with seasonal veg had hardly any squid in it, and was bland soggy and pale. I might as well of not bothered.

Had a very uninspiring takeaway, most of the food was bland and pale looking . One of the dishes, noodles with vegetables was not even mixed together the vegetables we're just plonked on top of the noodles . Sorry but won't go back again .

We occasionally get take away Chinese food from Prosperity. This is Cantonese cuisine, always piping hot, delicious and reasonable. No problems and staff are always pleasant/business like - A÷

This is by far the best Chinese restaurant in the area, serving high quality freshly cooked food. Many of the dishes feature lovely fresh crisp vegetables and pineapple, so the sweet and sour dishes are really tasty. The seafood noodles are really nice, and we have loved every dish we have ever tried from here. It is a nicely laid out restaurant and the staff are friendly and helpful. When we want a special Chinese takeaway we drive here from East Grinstead and consider it worth the extra drive. There is a bar area where you can have a drink while you wait.

Living only a short distance from a few Chinese Restaurants we always do however use Prosperity for both eating in and take away, and have done for over 20 years, none of the others come close! The food, service and friendliness of all the staff has never been less than perfect and the same applied when we visited last Saturday. I have no problems in recommending this excellent restaurant. I would mention that I felt it completely unfair for a customer to complain about a bottle of wine and when holding it up to the waitress there was no more than around 2 inches left in the bottle, the rest must have been OK then!!!

Good well cooked food, good value, nice people. Worth a visit. Not particularly salubrious but perfectly fine for a family or friends meal.

We eat in here often and always find the staff friendly and the food delicious. It is more of a special meal out and the restaurant is always tranquil perfect for a quiet dinner for two. My favourite dish has to be the shredded smoked chicken it is gorgeous and must be tried.

Very close to the real thing sampled during many years lived in Asia. attentive friendly staff, quick service, wide ranging menu, the best sweet and sour pork ever tasted in the UK!

we visited here before a theatre visit in Forest Row and as usual weren't disappointed. We had the set meal B for two which was lovely. Duck and plum sauce in pancakes for a starter. Then chicken and cashew nuts, prawns in a delicious sauce, pork in sweet and sour sauce with egg fried rice. All excellent. The house wine, a Merlot, was very good too. Consistently good here. Well done! Staff very pleasant as usual too.

Having been going to this restaurant since I was a child on and off for the last 15/20 years I can say that unfortunately it has gone down hill lately. The food isn't the best having tried other Cantonese/Chinese restaurants locally, the crispy chilli beef is soggy and portion sizes arn't great. I used to be a regular until I phoned up to order a takeaway one day and was told very rudely that they wouldn't do half a portion of one dish and half of the other I was told they only do bigger portions if I wanted to order more but lady on phone very rude and abrupt considering I'd already ordered £30 worth if food, so I said not to worry about my order I'll go somewhere else so they lost out on money there. Shame really as they used to be very busy and food was great don't know whats happened prosperity. Maybe one day I might try again.

This place has amazing Chinese food. The flavour is splendid and it all came out fairly fast. We went on a weekday though and it wasn't that busy so I'm unsure how it is on the weekends.The value for the food is very reasonable as all the portions are massive. We were rolling out of the restaurant by the end! The decor is unlike any other Chinese restaurant I've been to. It has India decor elements and after speaking to one of the waitresses we've found out that it used to be an Indian restaurant before it was turned into a Chinese restaurant by its current owners. As the decor was very new and lovely it would have been a shame to strip it away so they kept it; an interesting background story!The staff are very friendly and helpful as expected. I would visit again!

I have been to the Prosperity many times and every meal has been excellent. We usually try to avoid Friday and Saturday when they are extremely busy with take aways which is the mainstay of the business. The food is consistent and of good standard and the staff very friendly and helpful. If I have a criticism it would be that the decor is rather dated and is a hang over from when it was an Indian restaurant and could do with a makeover.

What an absolute disgrace this place is! My partner and I stopped off here for a takeaway. We then sat there for an hour and 5 mins before we got our food! But unfortunately that wasn't the worst of it. The food we did receive was practically inedible, the chicken was unbelievable dry, the crispy chilli beef was soggy and sweet and the satay chicken was like chicken in a dodgy gravy! Not only that it was fairly expensive for what it was. Needless to say I certainly won't be returning and advise others to do the same!

We often have set meal B which includes our favourites. Prices are reasonable and staff are friendly. Portions are generous--plenty for us and we often have trouble finishing it all.

We settled for a set menu and was a little disappointed with the quality being high on vegetable content and low on meat.

The food here is really great - just can't be faulted. This is one of a number of chinese resaturants in East Sussex and always the one we go back to.

We ordered several fairly simple items and all of them were flavourless. Soggy prawn toast, soggy crispy chilli beef, insipid over sweet Kung po chicken. A real disappointment.
