Authentic Chinese - I love it. wish they were open for lunch everyday! A little oasis of flavour in an otherwise bleak landscape...

Happy House has had new management in for a few months now and boy oh boy, they are doing a terrific job. The food is excellent, the king prawns are amazing, dry ribs superb, singapore chow mein is out of this world. The value for money is awesome, especially compared to the two indian take aways in the village - nearly half the price for a meal for 4. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

The chips were rubbery and cold ! Small chips was enough to feed a family of 4, i guess thats why they are over £3 !! Really not great

Fantastic food, lovely staff. We are lucky to have them in Wadhurst as there is a lack of takeaway options in the area. Only thing that sometimes hurts the experience is other customers being rude to the staff... Don't do this, they are nice, skilful and efficient. Respect the ever-so-slight language barrier and be clear with your order, in a non-condescending way. Wadhurst is lucky to have Happy house.

food was okay, little dry for my liking, no sweet and sour with the sweet and sour chicken balls, minimum payment on card is a little high.

Now settled in under the new owners, it seems time to give them a review after a lot of takeaways. The Chinese food is still very good, with generous portions and reasonable prices (despite recent small increases). We're working our way through the menu, finding our new favourites. The previous incarnation was exceptional for Chinese (less so for fish and chips sometimes). The new Happy House is still extremely good for a relatively small village Chinese.

Good value huge portions. Prices have gone up a little from the menu shown but that is to be expected. Happy House Special Rice from £6.80 to £7.00 but this is fully loaded wit mixed meats, veg and prawns. A meal in itself. Highly recommended for a special TV dinner

I live very locally to The Happy House. In the past 17 years it has had its ups and downs and has changed hands three times since I’ve been here. HOWEVER, IT IS NOW SUPERB! The recent owners have transformed the food. I eat out all around Sussex and Kent and this is simply the best fish and chips available and some of the best Asian food I’ve tasted to date. Try it out, you won’t be disappointed. 10 out of 10.

Best Chinese I've had in a while

Best fish and chips and really good Chinese food. We eat out all over Sussex and have found their fish and chips some of the best around. They’re really friendly but it’s worth phoning ahead as they are always busy. Highly recommended take away.

Updated review, now that Happy house is under new ownership. The food is of high quality, very well cooked. The Happy House chow mein and house chop suey are delicious. Crispy prawn crackers, sweet and sour Hong-Kong style is flavoursome and delicious. I will definitely get a take away from them again.

2 or 3 spaces for parking. More road parking. A bit of wait after taking an order. Some of the clients were impatient.

The food was lovely and freshly cooked. The service was also quick. Would highly recommend the beef chow main, chicken balls and egg fried rice.

As always the food was excellent. This time we had fish and chips which were great. The Chinese and Thai food is also wonderful

This is such a great Chinese takeaway! The food is just fantastic and served in generous portions. It's tremendous value for money and worth travelling to even if you don't live nearby. The lady that runs it is friendly and super efficient. We get a lot of meals from here and have never had anything less than an exceptional experience.

I love the big spring rolls from Happy House, they are excellent! The rest of their food is good value and the quality is fine for the very reasonable prices they somehow maintain. They are nice polite people which counts for a lot too!

Food was quite quick to be given to me after I ordered. Sweet and Sour sauce was good as well as the tofu, one of the better places for tofu take out. It is cash only. Friendly and helpful staff who helped me find a tasty dish for me vegetarian daughter.

Cash only. Great tasting fish and chips. The fish isn't soaking in grease like at some chippies and a small portion of chips will feed a scout camp. My order was freshly cooked. Recommended.

Cash only. I stood there for 10 minutes waiting and noticed nobody used a card to pay. I can't stand cash only places. Will not return. It's not acceptable to force customers to walk down the road to get cash out so they have the option to skip contributing to society.

ABSOLUTLEY AWFUL - I have given it a 1 star - that is to much for this Chinese!! I ordered on Saturday night - Chicken Satay, 1/4 of Duck with Pancakes, Crispy Shredded Beef and Prawn Chow Mein - £32.00 later all we could eat was the Chow Mein and this was cold and tasteless. The Chicken Satay was hard, dry and clearly reheated, as for the duck well god knows what had happened to that, it was dry and extremely over cooked in fact burnt to death. I called up and complained the same evening telling them I would be back for a refund as the 2 meat dishes were inedible, the chef admitted the Satay was sent out dry and reheated!!!! I went to collect my refund today and was given £14.80 this being just for the Satay and Duck!! Not a problem as money isn't the issue here, just wanted to write and let people know how awful the only Chinese in Wadhurst is.

We have been getting takeaways from here for years and it's first class. Very popular with locals and unsurprisingly you should order early on Friday/Saturday nights. Can't believe some of the recent reviews on here! Last week's takeaway was again on time, with the usual generous portions of delicious food at very reasonable prices. Salt & Pepper Prawns, Sweet & Sour Pork Hong Kong style and their Egg Fried Rice are particularly good. The roast duck is amazing too, either in dishes or with pancakes. Also does fish and chips, but we always get the Chinese. Our favourite takeaway in the Wadhurst/Tunbridge Wells area.

Had a really nice takeaway from here Friday night, very tasty! Will definitely be going back, it's a shame they don't accept card payments but not the end of the world as you can get cash from jempsons Co op or onestop just up the road.

Chips missing from order. Asked for 2 bags of spring rolls, got 2 individual springs rolls with mixed meat in them. Chow mein dry and tasteless. Prawn crackers stale. Do not recommend.

Great tasting food, good value and service

Food was lovely hadn't visited for a year or so as food was not great but everyone deserves a secobd chance hey. I would assume it is under new management, food was very tasty and fresh.

Food is nice enough & very convenient

Trying to place an order over the phone proved to be difficult so we ordered once in the shop. We didn’t have to wait long and the food was piping hot. Good portion sizes and flavour but it was quite greasy.

Ordered take away for 4 people, they said 75 min wait, ok can deal with that even though for fast food that is taking the pss. Arrived to collect to be told it wasn’t ready as it’s very busy. No apology or even an idea of when it would be ready... only a “it may be half an hour..”. How can you operate like that? Please don’t visit this place, it’s the only way to drive them out.

I ordered a half pounder cheese burger. When it arrived it was just 2 badly cooked burgers with 2 bits of burger cheese. I asked for salad and they said people in wadhurst don't like salad in their burgers. So I asked for some ketchup and they wanted to charge 25p for it. Really poor.

A good chinese takeaway that offers standard chip shop options. Got the burger and some chips last time and as always the burger was good however the chips are not the best and havent been for a while. Ive been getting food from this place for years and the chips have always been of a lesser quality however recently they have improved, still not perfect but a lot better than they were before. The lady behind the till is usually lovely and is always great to deal with. All in all the food aint the best but its great for the cost and the service is great.

Probably the stodgiest and most disgusting food I have had. Grease isnt the word! How on earth does it have such a high rating? Clearly Wadhurst is yet to sample the delights of decent Chinese cuisine.

A good Chinese Takeaway in the Sparrows Green area about half a mile from Wadhurst itself. I find it handy to stop here on my way back from the train station. There are no other Chinese takeaways nearby. Always friendly service and the food is what you would expect. I haven't had the fish and chips, so can't comment on that. A couple of points to note: It's cash only, and they are closed on Sunday's.

This is a remote location in the middle of Wadhurst. It has to be good to survive otherwise it would surely go under , Cod and chips for four to take away . Delay due to being cooked to order . Tasted very good the fish was soft and creamy ,chips very good and all very hot too . If ever in that remote area again shall pop in maybe for a Chinese next time . Parking on forecourt too .

This is a small takeaway shop that has a Chinese and fish and chips menu. Food is lovely and reasonably priced, staff are polite but they're not always very accurate when telling you how long the order will take. There is a small waiting area but nowhere to sit and eat - takeaway only.

They always make me vegan food here! They leave out the oyster sauce and it’s so good. I always get the salt and pepper bean curd, veg friend rice and veggie spring rolls. Such a sweet family and nothing is ever too much of a problem. A lovely take away for a village. Thanks guys

Food is okay, chips are a bit hit and miss and the fish is edible.

This takeaway offers both Chinese and good old fish & chips. We've found the chips to be a bit varied, sometimes very good others either soggy or hard but the fish has always been up to standard. The Chinese food too is consistent with a reasonably large menu to choose from. Staff are pleasant and efficient.

We have been regular visitors to this chip shop over the years, I bought some fish and chips today and they were disgusting. The oil tasted old and left a horrid taste in my mouth. Which I still have now 2 hours later. Sorry to say but we won’t be returning.

Fish & Chips/ Chinese ok but I've had much better.

Really nice staff serving the take-away food. The kebabs are very good and lovely quality - if you like that sort of thing. Located in the high street, so easy to find and seats for waiting.

I've had several take-aways from Happy House recently, because I've fallen for their Singapore vegetable vermicelli noodles paired with Salt & Pepper Chilli Bean curd tofu! My daughter is rather partial to the bean curd in satay sauce. There are other good vegetarian & vegan dishes (just ask), though be careful with the dish that is listed under vegetarian but has oyster sauce in it. They are happy to replace that with soy sauce instead. Just a quick note - it's cash only

Lovely Chinese food, chicken and mushroom is great

Looked at the reviews & nearly did not go. But really happy we did food was fantastic & service was great I won't to try the fish as well as looked really nice & cooked to order. But to full tonight 😉.

love this place, I would recommend the classic spring rolls, followed by chips and curry sauce (side of mushy peas) and some prawn crackers. Hoping to come back today, staff are lovely.

I really want to give my local choppy and Chinese food takeaway a five star rating, but the food is simply below average. Dry and tasteless.

1 of the worst service ever. batter falls off fish unless you are carefull. the chips are a disgrace as they are over cooked not nice taste horrible and are hard and dark brown not golden. the quality is poor and a ripoff at £1.60 a portion. was then given a meal and £3.40 for compention only to be charged in full for the meal the next night making out we should of paid. only to be left £3.40 in compensation after buying fish and chips 3 nights running and a regal customer. they are not worth the money you pay

Fish not great, chips and pie really overcooked. The pie was so dry and crispy the chicken inside was so hard. Won't return.

Yo sólo comer pescado y patatas fritas de aquí, pero siempre están bastante bien. El pescado generalmente tiene que ser cocinada desde cero así que es siempre fresco. Las patatas fritas calidad depende de cuánto tiempo tienes que esperar para el pescado y cuando estaban cocinados. El personal es amable. Parece que sirven comida masas de china mientras que esperar para mi pescado así que supongo que es razonable.

Probamos los platos chinos y pescado y viajes en dos ocasiones distintas recientemente. Ambos eran terribles. Para los chinos, tuvimos que esperar a que nos fuera más de una hora y media; se ha estimado una esperar mucho más bajo y si tenían dijo la verdad que no hubiéramos esperado. Cuando nos dieron la comida, no vale la pena la espera.

This place always has a busy turnover of people, which is a good sign. The Chinese is average at best, but perfectly ok and not expensive. The Fish and chips however could be much better if they weren't so over cooked ! Every single time it is the same. The owners are very friendly and service is quick and efficient. Will continue to get the odd Chinese take away there.

Worst chinese in south east england, and the fish and chips is no better. The last owner was a bit grumpy and served very bland flavours but the new people and menu is terrible the sweet and sour chicken you could bust your teeth on, the rice and noodles are totally over cooked and please dont order the fish because the batter is disgusting and totally the wrong color and also the chips stay crispy for a minute then go soft and not good. Wadhurst needs a good chinese and i have heard that the red lion might be made into a chinese resteraunt. Lets hope so

Good local Chinese doing Cantonese style dishes adjusted for local tastes, and it does chips too. Grand it may not be but the food is comforting and tasty.

Not sure what the reviews below experience had, we always have a great takeaway from here, and it's always busy. The bbq spare ribs are the best!

Got the order wrong, worst chips I've tasted, fish probably not fresh, 90% batter, chicken breast ordered, revolting nuggets delivered. Avoid avoid avoid.

I'm not sure how they cook the rice but its very stodgy and oily, perhaps its old? There rest of it is mediocre to say the least for some reason when Chinese takeaways offer fish chips, burgers and other things i find they're never good!

Great place for Chinese takeaway - really love the food from here. Fish and chips too. Not much else to say really, very friendly service and they are always busy on an evening so they must be doing something right!
