Our favourite Indian with, truly fresh home cooked Indian Food that is such a treat for a takeaway. Ali and his team are so friendly and always on time with no waiting time for called in takeaway orders for pickup. Highly recommended

Worst Takeaway I have had. Korma watery and tasteless. Mushroom rice very little flavour, Garlic Nan bread also tasteless, so disappointing. On a positive note the Gentleman taking payment was very nice and courteous.

Good food and beer. Didn't wait for too long for anything. Not very big so I assume you'd need to book on busy days. 1 year later and I'm back in the area. Didn't hesitate to go back, food and beer still good, turns out there's an upstairs service was a bit slower but it was a Saturday (and pay weekend) this time so it was a lot busier... Would I go back again? Yep....

I recently took my twin nephews for a drive from Cardiff, we came across Sundarbon in Abergavenny Beautiful location with secured parking which is a great bonus We had the Naga chicken, Nawabi and my favourite the Salli Ghoast, I highly recommend you try the 3 dishes I named, the hospitality there was also amazing, the restaurateur Ali spend great deal of time talking to us and discussing his menu, I also noticed he did the same with every other customer who walked in. Will return back soon.

Visited this restaurant last night and it was definitely a 5⭐️ experience. The food was delicious with lots of dishes to choose from. Good value for money too. The staff were brilliant couldn't do enough for us. If you find yourself in Abergavenny please go here

Following other reviews a friend and I booked a table last night. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. The decor and ambiance were luxurious, tasteful and comfortable. Now for the food . . . it was fantastic! An excellent and comprehensive vegetarian menu led us to order far too much as the portions were generous. Mind you,we did full justice to the tableful that we received! Including drinks the bill only came to £48 and this will easily be far less next time, now we know not to over-order. I can't wait to pay a return visit and can highly recommend this lovely hidden gem.

We had take away, good tasty food though my Naga chicken curry was not as hot as I expected it to be. Friendly helpful staff, reasonable prices.

Average food, awful service. We booked a table for eight, but one cancelled. On arrival, we were left to distribute ourselves between two seperate six-seater tables. Waiters were innatentive, and service very slow. We ordered a bottle of wine, (which we had to open ourselves!). We weren't offered drinks again. Nobody thought to ask at any point if we were happy with our food. I wasn't. Food was excessively salty, and i found both my starter and main inedible. The waiter was indifferent to my salty starter complaint. When i complained about the saltiness of my main course it was suggested that my tastebuds were to blame! The manager was chilled yet condescending. Despite having eaten the same dish for many years at other restaurants, the excessive saltiness was due to my misunderstanding of the ingredients! My food was deducted from the bill, but this was poor recompense for having sat for 2+1/2 hours with nothing to eat. I hope the manager cares enough to read, then act on this review, but i expect he's happy enough just to have our money in the till. I'd advise you spend yours elsewhere.

Whenever I visit Abergavenny, having a meal at Sundarbon is essential. A great selection of food and especially for a vegetarian like myself. Love the place, great staff and atmosphere.

Went here for an evening meal whilst on holiday and food was lovely the only thing that let this place down was when some food was being delivered to the tables the amount of smoke it let off and everyone was coughing

I have been going to this restaurant for many years and can honestly say it’s the best… staff are fantastic and food is second to none. This really is Indian food at its best. Owner always makes a fuss of me and my family even if it’s packed thank you sundarbon 10/10 without a doubt. Thank you

Lovely friendly staff but we were disappointed with our takeaway food. There wasn’t any complexity of spicing or flavour in the gravies, and some of the king prawns were too soft (not gone off, just a bit old). The portion sizes were very generous.

Looks beautiful inside after the restoration. Cosy booths enhance the atmosphere and the food is really tasty. There is an unusually extensive vegetarian menu which must make this the go-to Indian restaurant for vegetarians. Delicious trad Tandoori and curried meat dishes too of course. The naans are perfection. Try it.

Never felt such disdain as i did last night. Arriving to find that our table for 10 (a 6 & 4) had not been booked in, were asked to wait outside while it was being looked in to. After 10 minutes in the cold, i went in to see what was happening only to be ignored. When i did get his attention, he mumbled, there is no booking! So why leave us outside? He challenged the lady who made the booking to prove she had really booked! Why would 10 of us just turn up expecting to be seated without prior booking? When we then expressed our disappointment his reply was WHATEVER! So bloody rude. It cost nothing to be courteous and polite, he was neither. Poor show Sundarbon

Just two words to describe my meal, 'stunning food'

An excellent place to eat, plenty of vegan options. A huge thank you to the manager who took a long time to point all vegan options and explained every dish to us, he was honest and didn’t trick us into non-vegan dishes. My favourite restaurant in Abergavenny! Staff extremely kind, they made us happy.

It was so nice to be able to have a meal bat Sundarbon on Saturday evening. They are totally COVID compliant which makes customers feel safe. The food, as usual, was delicious (vegetable samosa starter followed by Lamb Passanda and pilau rice and Chicken Biriyani). It was so nice to get back to normality after the lockdown. As always Ali and his team were very welcoming and attentive-lovely to see them back

Yet another superb meal at The Sundarban on Friday. Beautiful jalfrezi and my favourite, sizzling chicken nawabi. Our friends had never tried Asian food before , and loved it. Great service, as always , by the very polite and friendly staff. The new screens make it hard for the staff to deliver the food trolley, but they did very well and the new set up appears extremely safe for Customers and staff. Can’t wait to visit again

Moving to Ewyas Harold two years ago filled us with horror as Hampshire has a multitude of Indian takeaways to choose from. We are so happy we found the Sundabon, the food is exqusite and the owners are so friendly. Thank you for being there.

After a gruelling day we decided to order a meal from the Sundabon. It was ready for us really quickly after ordering online on their web page and it was the most delicious food. Beautifully cooked, meat was tender and the flavours were wonderful. It was just such a lovely meal. This is absolutely on our list for future visits.

Last night we visited here to have a long awaited date night out despite the strange times. The restaurant provided a hand sanitisation station, has seperated all tables with aee throug visors and all staff wore masks throughout the evening.the wonderful staff made us feel so welcome, talked us through the menu, recommendations and some cooking process for certain curries. When mine arrived, it was sizzling hot and the coconut rice smelled devine. I like a medium curry. My nose however had decided to run non stop. I asked the waiter for a tissue not at all complaining it was too hot but he insisted on making me a slightly milder version. It was one of the best curries I have ever had. Fresh, tasty, aromatic. We definitely will be back. We both continued to talk about how nice the whole evening was. Great food, super friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. See you again soon

Lovely food, really friendly service and child friendly. We've been here twice now and both times we took our 2 year old and were made very welcome. The food is excellent, good value and the COVID measures make you feel at ease.

I have been in thousands of Indian restaurants all round the World and this is one of the best I have been in. Great food cooked just how you like it and excellent service. Was recomended to us by a friend who accompanied us and he was spot on in his verdict. Good sized portions. The lamb was succulent and the chicken very moist. The sauces are superb.

Lived here for 3 years and surprisingly hadn't made it to this unassuming Indian restaurant, off the main drag. Had a great evening and wonderful food. My partner is dairy free and time was taken to explain the menu and discuss alternatives. The food was delicious and portions generous. The precautions taken to keep us safe from Covid-19 were novel and a talking point, but most importantly we felt safe.

Had my first curry from here last night , a Korma and a Balti . This was without doubt the best curry I have had in Abergavenny . I find the other restaurants seem to sweeten the curry but this was all flavour . Very nice looking forward to our next visit .

My wife and I and two of our close friends visited The Sundarbon last night and the previous Saturday after a long absence. Lovely tasty plentiful food, piping hot and full of flavour, just as we all remembered it from a time before. All of us were regular customers of Ali's before the misfortune of his restaurant being closed down due to the fire a few years ago. Recommended on a personal note the Chicken Shashlik which I chose last night was superb, also the Maharajah Bhuna, Chicken Dhansak and a Chicken Tikka main to name but a few, all quality.Thanks for a lovely welcome Ali.

Clean and friendly place but if you want proper indian food go somewhere else. Nothing above average, custom made for europeans indian food, moderate quality, fits the taste of the masses. On the plus, good prices.

Service was very slow. Never had to wait at least 10 minutes before my order for a drink was taken.

Arrived at 7.15 and got our meals at 8.45. Pint of carling had to be sent back as it resembled cloudy cider! We had eaten our poppadoms before our order had been taken! When food arrived it was average and certainly not worth the wait. Had to ask for yoghurt to go with my tikka and naan came too long after the curries which were very bland. Everyone was apologetic saying they were short staffed but I’m afraid I won’t be returning which is a shame as I have had many good nights here.

Decided to give the Sundarbon another go after finding the dishes rather too oily and uninspiring before the establishment burned down a few years ago.I have to say I was very impressed.The place was very busy but service was prompt. The food was of a very high quality. Staff very friendly. I really enjoyed the experience and will go many times again.!

Two visits in four days says it all. I had the Sali Ghosht and wife the meat Thali, both dishes hard to find these days. Food was delicious and Ali and his team made us really welcome and looked after us perfectly. Will definitely return if in the area. Highly recommended.

Out of the man curry houses in Abergavenny, this was one I had not visited. On the off chance we called ahead and managed to get a table for 8.15pm, we got there early and were met by very attentive staff and shown to our table. Our waiter was second to none, who couldn't do enough for us. The customary poppadoms and dips to start were fantastic, well flavoured and tasty. Main courses and drinks were ordered promptly and arrived in good time. I chose the murgi masala which with a combination of chicken and mince really hit the spot, coupled with keema rice (which was enough for two) and a nann bread this was ideal. Very reasonably priced for fantastic food and fantastic service, I will be coming back here and would highly recommend you all to do the same!

A lovely indian restaurant. Food beautiful. Group of four popped in on a Friday on the off chance. From the start the staff were so friendly and chatty. Couldnt' be more helpful. Will def come here again. The food was so flavorsome and not oily as with most curries I have ordered.
