Sitar Balti in Monmouthshire

Visited last year while staying the night at chepstow, gorgeous food, great service and lovely wine! A hidden gel looking forward to coming back this week.

Went for a night out with work colleagues. With it being valentines evening the restaurant was busy but the service was excellent. It's not a large restaurant so best to book in advance. Food was delicious and very tasty.

It has to be one of the best curries I've had. 100% recommended

Hard to fine as it hidden underground, but food was really really good, staff fantastic and good wind list at reasonable prices. Chicken dank was epic. Lovely crisp table linen, even had fresh oranges at the end of the meal, We will defiantly be back again soon.

The special balti was the best curry I have ever had, absolutely delicious! Lovely brick vaulted ceiling as well.

Absolutely love this place. We continue to go there. And never disappointed. If it’s just as a couple for a romantic night out. Or with our boys. Same service. Same standard of food. It’s a very good 10/10. Highly recommended and yes we will be back again and again.

We often come here even though we live a 20 min drive away simply because it’s THE best Indian food around. Set in a lovely old wine cellar it always feels special, crisp white tablecloths, candles, even a fresh flower on every table. Staff are exceptional and of course, the food is THE BEST.

I love the Sita Balti it has a cave interior best indian restaurant in Chepstow delicious food and lovely staff.

Visiting the area for one night and was planning on going to another curry house but it was closed on a Tues so ended up going here and so glad we did! I’m a very fussy eater but the food here was the best I’ve had in a long time, good portion size, nice and hot and nice staff who clearly work very hard. Reasonably priced. Go there, you won’t be disappointed!

The strangest tasting indian I've ever had. I'm used to curries in Leicester but this restaurant is not a proper curry house.

Wonderful food and great service. A gem of South Wales. Prices are reasonable and good value. Overall a very enjoyable experience and will go there again soon.

Food was great and service was paced and we were asked if we were ready for food yet. The only thing that let it down was there was a burst pipe at the back of the building as we were finishing our food and things got a little hectic. Clearly was a one off tho, I'd go back there again.

Delicious food, good atmosphere and friendly staff. Great selection of food and drink. We always have a nice meal here and receive a warm welcome from staff.

If you didn't know where this was, you would not find it. A lovely eating establishment in Chepstow. We were there for the Wolfpack Pilgrimage, which started and will finish 1000 miles later after navigating around Wales. Would recommend anyone in the area book early as it's a treat.

Haven't been for some time but we both felt that the quality of the dishes we had were not as good as before Pre-Covid.

First time at this restaurant, so not sure what to expect. Started with chicken tikka, this was nice however three small bits of somewhat dry chicken was not a great start. However the taste of the dhansak chicken was the best I have ever had. This made the meal for me. My partner was happy with her meal. So all was very ok. Much much better then the Indian meal we had only a few days before at our local Indian restaurant.

They accommodated us despite having reservations. They had an hour window which they offered to us. They didn't make us feel rushed and were very polite when the booked guests arrived.

Really good. Food, environment and service was excellent. Jaipur curry was packed with flavour. Very enjoyable evening.

My five star rating says it all great food wonderful staff spotlessly clean very impressed. Never had a bad meal yet. In fact, gets better each time I go . If you haven’t tried it yet you must.

Really delicious food - having the metal bowls over candle flames kept everything hot throughout the meal and everything ordered was fantastic if a little milder than I expected (great news for those with less of a tolerance for spice) though packed with flavour. Being a wet and rainy evening the floor was a little slippery so I had to mind my step but no mishaps were had - and really that was the only SUPER MINOR niggle. Excellent service, excellent food, will be returning.

Ordered a takeaway and it was brilliant. Large order, but still took less than an hour and everyone was pleased with what they ordered. Would perhaps visit next time. Okay downside is it is a little hard to find, but some locals pointed us in the right direction.

Whilst eating my meal I poured some salad onto my plate the salad was slimy and smelt terrible ruined my appetite

Not sure why all the rave reviews. I have lived in Chepstow for 10 years and tried the Sitar half a dozen times. Twice ate in four times take-away and it has been consistently mediocre. Perfectly edible but lacking in vibrancy and freshness. As if the chef is uninterested and bored.

Food was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful. Service was reasonably quick. We had mains, rice, nans and drinks at about £25 a head.

On a busy Saturday Race night they managed to find us a table even though we hadn’t booked. All the staff were lovely, service was very efficient and the food was excellent. Looking forward to going back very soon.

Unfortunately the worst meal I have had in years. A party of seven celebrating a birthday. Not one person had a decent meal. Three people chose the mixed tandoori platter, it was cremated., inedible King tandoori prawns completely tastless, obviously thawed out frozen. Complete waste of money A huge disappointment . Entrance is down a flight of steps as the restaurant is in the basement/cellar and it's made to look like a cavern. A row of bench tables to seat 4 down either side. Wasn't very busy on our visit, which was a first for my wife and I but not for the other couple. An extensive menu, which took a while, so popadums and pickles, sauces and onion salad was required to help make choices and when it arrived there was no disappointment as all plates were clear. Great food at a great price, will be planning to make a return visit.👍

Hidden away but worth searching out. The atmospheric cellar setting is accompanied by some really tasty curries. Worth a trip over the Severn Bridge to visit.

Five of us had a lovely evening at Sitar’s today. The entrance to this basement restaurant is easy to miss but once inside, the brick tunnel vault ceiling and coloured lights produce a cosy atmosphere.The Sitar Balti have an extensive menu and everything we had was delicious including a veggie platter, lamb and veg balti and Sitar’s special balti.Thank you!

Friendly, quick service. The vegetarian platter is HUGE, definitely enough for 2 or 3 people. The food itself was okay, very oily.

What can we say, nice welcome, and the food was beautiful. We had bahjis and shashlick starters, followed by balti and dopiaza, omg it was so so tasty. Would defo recommend, wish we lived nearer. This was our third visit over the last couple of years and you never disappoint. Keep safe guys and keep supplying the excellent food.

A nice setting, but food was bland and poppadoms with the sauce were a total rip off - almost £5 for 2 poppadoms and the sauces. Also they told us by phone there were no tables available, we turned up and there were loads

We have just had our first take away from The Sitar Balti, we've recently moved to chepstow and love our Indian takeaways, used a superb one in Bradley Stoke and was worried we would not find one as good in Chepstow. Today is 1st January 2021 and my wife's birthday so we really wanted to find a good Indian take away, we were not dissapointed. Our order was ready when they said it would be, everything was there and it was a £50 order, food was lovely and hot, the staff were very pleasant and came to the door with our food straight away. We will definitely be returning, especially as there were some items on the menu that we had never had before, so will be looking forward to trying those out.

Delicious! Never ordered before as they didn't do deliveries or the very least we didn't know they did.

Always our go to Indian take away but tonight they excelled themselves. Chana ghost, coriander chicken, tarka dahl and garlic rice all bang on point. Superb and highly recommended.

Great food lots of choice better to call a takeaway order in or can be up to a 30 minute wait if there restaurant busy it normally is 🥘🥘 the chips are awesome

Really quirky place inside an old converted cellar. Busy for a Sunday night so service was a bit on the slow side. Sheek kebab starter was fab- great flavours. Jaipur curry was fantastic- good level of spice. Lemon rice was prob best I've ever tasted. Would recommend if visiting Chepstow.

I have not been to any other Indian in Chepstow, but I am sure that this must be the best, it is excellent. I love Indian food and have eaten it all over the country and this place is one of the very best that I have been to. Great location, fun little cellar of a place, friendly staff, good service and remarkable food. I had a mixed starter, the onion bajhee and samosa were both excellent although the other bits were more mediocre. For mains I had Jaipur chicken which was rich and tasty. The other people with me all had different dishes, which were definitely different to each other (unlike many Indian restaurants who seem to use the same base gravy for everything), and were all yummy (I tried a bit of them all!). Reasonably priced wine and draught Cobra.

The staff were kind and attentive.Food was fresh and delicious .Liked the vibe of the restaurant.They still do not serve tea/coffee or dessert as they are still getting on top of the work since opening but it was a great night.The naan and chutney were goooood!

We visited 22/08/2020 table wasn’t ready but we were not kept waiting long, there was a noisy party in and the staff could not have been more apologetic, offered to move us (we declined) and they left soon after, the food was sublime, curry was hot just how I like it, naan bread was the best I’ve ever eaten and it’s the first time ever I’ve eaten the lot, it was amazing, service was great and we will definitely be back soon... Thanks again you were all brilliant x

I've eaten at all the Indians in Chepstow after living here for a couple of years. The rest are all good, but this is the best. Just had dinner and the chicken was so soft and tender, rice nice and fluffy and sauce perfect. Only thing I can complain about is the wait time but it wasn't too bad in reality.
