Lovely quiet venue, great service and delicious food. Highly recommended, will definitely visit again in the future.

In case you'd not notice in previous reviews. I am technically a 'track-basher' a sub-division of train-spotting. I have travelled on 80% of the UK rail network, with my friend Phil, the WHOLE Irish (N+S) network and the Dutch network apart from Gouda cos of engineering. Chiz chiz.Anyway my sister live near Church Fenton and picked my family and I up at Church Fenton station about 30 years ago. I was intrigued by this Indian above the railway but only persuaded my Sister and 2 brothers-in-law (one called NeAl, the other NeIl, what family fun that's caused over the years) to visit last night. Anyway the very pleasant maitre'd soon picked up the vibe and we were sat by a window, open curtains for a good view of the lineside activity. He took the order with expert advice and suggestions. I had a Shami Kebab with Lamb Moss Balti, pilau rice and a chapati. They do have some 'signature dishes, Joy Bangla and the eponymous Sungar Balti I was advised may have too many vegetables for you Sir, but NeIl took the chance. Sister tried and enjoyed the fried fish starter and the King Prawn main as well. She's always loved fish, not like me at all. I did spend a lot of time on the platforms ... but all enjoyed their meals.The venue is part of the old booking office and it features several photographs of the station as it was. Good value and especially recommended to ECML enthusiasts.

Sunar Bangla is somewhere we can count on for wonderful food and amazing service. Nig and his staff are always friendly and welcoming, with great suggestions for alternatives to our usual favourites. Church Fenton has been extremely fortunate to have this restaurant in the village for so long, being an even greater asset during Covid.

Do not let the train station fool you! Me and my partner found this hidden gem by accident due to missing our time slot at a pub further up road we decided to try and find somewhere else since we travelled 20 minutes already I refused to turn back home without having a full belly first! I was skeptical at first with it being inside a train station but seen this restaurant had fantastic reviews so we decided to try it and was the best decision. I’m going back and taking more people with me to try. The waiters absolutely fantastic so polite and nice called me and my partner sir and madam they can not do enough for you and advise you to tell them if your food needs anything doing to it such as less spices or more spices they want you to have a good time and enjoy what your eating. It’s not just your everyday Indian cuisine it’s authentic probably the best Indian food I have ever had and the prices are good too so cheap for the food that you receive. It’s small and personal and I have never had such good customer service in my life we tipped at the end and the waiter was so greatful and couldn’t say thank you enough. It’s clean and the food comes out hot and quick I can’t wait to go back and try rest of the menu

Having arrived in Church Fenton for a week's holiday we didn't fancy cooking so ordered a take-away meal form Sunar Bangla. The food, service and the bottle of beer were all excellent. We had lamb balti with rice, naan and a side of bombay aloo. The food was well cooked and not greasy like Indian food can sometimes be.

We tried Sunar Bangla for a takeaway during a recent visit to Fenton and were so impressed that we were back there again a couple of nights later. There was great variety to the menu, the chef's specials we tried were distinctive and the daal was perfect. Prices were very reasonable for everything and the staff were incredibly friendly and polite. Will definitely back on future visits to the area. Only one slight inconvenience - cash only.

Cannot currently dine in due to Covid19 but picked up a takeaway last night. Quality and taste was superb, just the same as the restaurant, and all the staff are always really friendly and helpful. Looking forward to them reopening when they can. Particularly recommend the Chicken Tikka Pathia!

Brought our friend who lives in Scarborouh to try, and he loved it. As per usual, the curry is spot on. They always make me a nut free chicken Tikka as it's my all time fav! The main waiter is the most humble, courteous and friendly person ever! They even gave me a bunch of flowers when I came for a birthday meal with some friends!! We use this curry house every time! I wish they took card as sometimes we have to have other take aways/go to the pub down the road because we dont have cash and church Fenton doesn't have a cash machine! But other than that, perfect! Mmmm I want a curry now....

We called in last night for a takeaway and the restaurant was absolutely buzzing. The host, Nij, still had time to welcome my friends and me. Our curries were absolutely delicious. My friends loved the food and were so surprised at the warmth of the hospitality shown to them. We even dined here on Christmas Day and that was awesome.Sunar Bangla is such a wonderful hidden Gem that must be visited. It opens 5.30pm Tuesday - Sunday. Cash only. Cards not accepted. A wonderful wonderful restaurant!

Having tried a few of the other local takeaways, this has to be by far my favourite. Fantastic experience from start to finish. They are all lovely, so nice and polite on the phone when taking the order. Didn't make me feel rushed once even though it was no doubt a busy Saturday night for them. Collection was the same, very warm welcome. We arrived slightly early to collect but our food was ready promptly. The food itself was delicious, fantastic flavour and quality all for a very reasonable price. This one is definitely worth the drive to the next village for so we will 100% be returning!

the sonar bangla is the best place to eat if you like indian food me and my family love the sunar bangla nidge is very nice the service is amazing,if you are lactose intolerant do not worry as the cook's will cook you up a lactose free food over all this is the best place to eat.

The owner Nidge gives kids his sweets but he's on holiday, and the quality has dropped a bit. I ordered a drink and it took 13 minutes.

This Bangladeshi Restaurant in the village of Church Fenton is very special. It is located at the train station and the dishes are very delicious. The service is superb. The owner Nidge is so attentive and kind. My favourite starter is the Chicken Chaat or the Royal Mixed Kebab, both of which are delicious and for main course try the 'Bangla Taste', chicken or lamb. or the 'Moss Balti'. You can get a train from Leeds or York (under 15mins). NO CARDS ACCEPTED. We in our village are so lucky to have this wonderful eatery on our doorstep. You will so enjoy this experience. We go every weekend! ENJOY!

Best Indian around! Haven’t lived here for long but have constantly been told to visit this absolute delight. The Sunar Bangla is on our doorstep and we love it, the staff are so friendly and the food is always excellent. I can wholeheartedly recommend anyone to give it a try.

We visited the Sunar as a family get together when my Auntie was visiting from Australia.

We visit Sunar Bangla at least a couple of times a month. The food is fantastic! I am vegetarian and the chef adjusts meals to suit my taste and so I can try dishes which aren't normally veggie.

Lived in the village for many years and went regularly, haven’t been for years but decided to pay it a visit again, when I went Nidge the owner greeted me by name, remembered the kids and as always was amazing. Fast service, lovely food. Might not be the most stylish place but makes up for it with personalised attentive service and fantastic food.

I stayed with my friend again so visiting here was a must. As before, the service was good. My friend had her usual chicken tikka masala, I tried Joy Church Fenton (I think that’s the right name). It wasn’t as hot as I’d expected but it was very tasty - lots of aubergines. Onion bhaji’s were delicious and not greasy.

It's fair to say that if we hadn't seen the reviews on here the appearance of the place wouldn't have drawn us in.

We have visited many times, and always have a great experience. The service is excellent, the food is very good and there is always plenty. There is a fantastic choice.on the menu and it's reasonably priced. Overal a thoroughly recommended establishment.

This is our all time favourite curry house. The food is always great and the staff are really friendly. Takeaways are also good.

It's been over 10 years since I last went as I moved away. We all had starters mains and sweets and really enjoyed it. I have to say it's one of the best Bangladesh restaurants I've ever been to. Nij the owner has a little gem of a place. Very well run and well worth a visit even though its off the beaten track. Trust me you won't be disappointed. 11 out of 10 from me. Excellent place. An unusual location as a former station ticket. Office but nothing unusual about the food. One if the nices curries I can remember having.

Fantastic food as always with great service- The team went the extra mile for us for the birthday party and were particularly helpful with one of the party who has coeliac disease. Achari chicken is especially good. Get on the train from Leeds or York!

We had friends to stay on Saturday 6 October & booked a table for 8. We have eaten many times at the Bangla but first time for our friends whose children can be fussy eaters. Nothing was too much trouble, the service & food was exceptional & there were 8 empty plates, everyone saying how great the food was.

We live in the village and have been coming here for 15 years. The service is exceptional and the food always good. The owner will help with your choices and is simply wonderful. Worth a visit or lots of visits 😊👍

Simple....... this place is amazing, best Indian restaurant In Yorkshire by a mile, all freshly cocked to your requirements, nothing is too much trouble, 5*.

This place is a hidden gem....it is an old railway ticket office in the station so does not have the goldfish bowl feel that lots of other restaurants do. The food is top class and this place goes down a storm with locals and surrounding villages- either sit down or take away. Staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. It is cash only but there is a big notice on the door as you enter - most people are happy enough to pay cash for the quality they are going to receive and most of the footfall is localish and know the set up. Definitely worth a visit!

You don't come here just for a great curry. You come here for a great curry delivered to your table by the most polite service this side of India.

This is a unique wee Bangladeshi restaurant. It is a converted part of Church Fenton Train Station.

We have been coming back again and again for over 15 years. Never once a bad meal and Nige and his staff always make our visits feel special. Words can't express adequately how grateful and lucky we are to have this wonderful restaurant on our doorstep.

Booked with a group of friends on a Friday night and had the best curry in ages.All the meals were superb and the big bottles of Bangla lager go down very well.All staff are very friendly and knowledgable, i can recommend the garlic chilli balti !, and will definitely return.

Sunar Bangla really is the hidden gem of South Asian cuisine. From the outside, it really doesn't look like much...

This was our first and last visit. We wanted to try somewhere new and this is only a few miles from where we live but honestly it was disappointing. The decor was what you used to see in Indian restaurants in the 70s and 80s and the food was very unexciting. The waiter was rather strange too calling us " my dears" about ten times in a creepy way. All this is incidental as our main gripe was that when it came to settling the bill we were told it's CASH ONLY! In this day and age?! We were mortified. We had to scrape together coins from my parking money in my car outside and so on. Be aware. They were very understanding to be fair but we were astounded and mortified.

Having just moved to Church Fenton we spotted the restaurant in the village at the station & is the old waiting room & ticket office. Great friendly welcome & the food was excellent. Been 3 times already & consider ourselves now to be regulars ! Nij is an excellent host always finding time to chat & explain dishes, etc. Always prepared to change to hotness of the meal to suit the person's taste.

I have been visiting here since I was a young child and now visit here with my family, friends and boyfriend. You are always made to feel so welcome whether you're ordering a takeaway or eating in. Your experience is always personalised here and you almost feel like family. The fish fried starter is a MUST try, I come here often and have to have it every time as it's so good. Friendly atmosphere and great food, couldn't ask for more. A family favourite of ours for over 20 years and a place you can take family, friends and business. I always recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.

Having just moved to Church Fenton, this is now our local eating place. Its only very small and very quirky, its the stations old ticket office, not much to look at from the outside but don't let that put you off !!

We find this restaurant brilliant, you can see the trains running past which amuses the kids, the staff are excellant at what they do, its def' friendly & very clean we reccomend its def' worth a visit you wont be disapointed, its open Tues to Sunday but open bank holidays, also do take-a-way.

An absolutely delightful place hidden in the old train station. If friends had not taken us we would never have known It was there. The service was impeccable and the food was absolutely fantastic. The owner gave us suggestions that all turned out to be very good. I could not recommend this place enough.

This little restaurant is built in what was the old station ticket office. It's on the main road and there is on street parking - if you get there early enough. We booked, which was a good move, it got busy very quickly, One of our party had the mixed kebab to start, I went for the Kind Prawn Purée. It was very good, The puree was served on one side, the prawns and sauce on the other - the prawns really were king prawns (well, they aren't always) and the sauce was just right.For the main, I had the chicken alam - the chicken was sliced and very tender. I'm not quite sure how they onions on top were cooked, but they were sliced and very tasty. It looked as though the chicken was marinated in tikka marinade. The dish was very hot and spicy, as advertised. I had the peas pilau rice, which was full of peas, probably the most I have ever had in a rice (that was good, I love peas). The portions of rice were very generous, as was the naan. One of my friends had chicken tikka masala, which she said was delicious. I can't remember what the other one had. The service was good, and the owner was absolutely charming. We all enjoyed the food, and certainly didn't leave hungry. It was well worth the visit and it I were in the area again, I'd go back again.

Called in with a mate early on a Friday evening on a recommendation. 1st time either of us had been and thoroughly enjoyed it. The waiters / owner were all very friendly and knowledgeable, and the curry was excellent, top quality chicken and a proper, authentic flavoursome sauce. Would not hesitate to call in again.

however, the food was just okay. I had the lamb tikka korma. It was sweet and that was disappointing, plus the lamb was in tiny pieces and a little tough. The poppodom were very good as well as the assorted pickle tray. It is a very popular place and I would say to try it because the staff takes care of you like you are a regular even if you are not!

This restaurant originally was Church Fenton's train station ticket office. It was converted to an Indian 18 years ago; even now as a curry house it hasn't lost its original charm and has many black and white photographs of both Indian and British railways We love it Some may say it's dated, we love that they haven't forgotten the original purpose of the building The food is excellent We have visited Akbars in York & Bradford and we think the food is just as good. However the service by far exceeds that of larger restaurants such as Akbars / mumtaz / Aagrahs Nij is very personable, he goes above and beyond for his customers whether it's your first time visiting or you're a regular He makes everyone who enters feel like a long lost friend.Nothing Is to much trouble I described my favourite dish when we visited and he adapted a dish from the menu for me.I also mentioned that I like Indian chai tea, again this isn't on the menu, yet Nij spent time making me one which ended up being the best chai tea I've ever tasted. He also suggested it's even better with a biscuit and gave me a timeout from his own lunchbox!As a family we've tasted most dishes from the menu and can honestly say all have been delicious. We highly recommend this restaurant and tell all our friends, family & colleagues to visit as soon as you can !

Sunar Bangla is a brilliant place to go for a lovely curry, it's in a great location with parking right outside. The actual building is situated next to the railway line so it's a novelty to hear the trains rumble past and our 3 year old son loves to watch and hear out for the 'choo choos'!Nij is the perfect host and always makes us feel very welcome and even remembers our name despite the fact we don't go as much as we'd like, maybe once every 6 months or so.A family friendly restaurant which offers great service and really good curry.

Had a run out to Church Fenton after reading the reviews. Charming little restaurant in what was the station ticket office. The walls are covered in old photographs of CF station. We were greeted by a really friendly gentleman who took our order and told us all about the place. The food here is seriously good. One of the tastiest curries I've ever had. I strongly recommend you give this place a try. Superb food, great service, friendly staff and an unusual location. Plenty of free parking too!

We visited here on the spur of the moment and were extremely pleasantly surprised. We live not too far away, and can't believe we've never tried it before. The location at quite quirky. We received a warm welcome from the staff, and even though it was a Tuesday evening and very quiet we really enjoyed ourselves. The food is really good, and well priced. My husband is a fan of really hot, spicy food and this really did hit the spot. Well done Sunar Bangla, we will return!

I love this restaurant. We always go early on a Friday and ask for the same table so my little boy can watch the trains whizz underneath us as we nibble on a naan. The moment you walk in the staff make you feel like royalty, without being over the top or 'just for tips'. They are so polite, kind and remember small details such as how we like our biryani (extra peas, sauce on the side for our fussy 5 year old) and the fact that I love a spinach chicken tikka curry and a g n t. The food is always delicious and fresh. It never has that layer of greasy oil and ghee that you get in some restaurants. I never feel guilty eating here and always leave feeling contented. Thank you for always delivering excellent food and service!

We went here for our annual valentines day meal. Did not disappoint! They cater to every need and can spice up your food or take out an ingredient if you lijke. nothing is too much to ask. (they like to give you roses on V day from your 'partner') however, they forgot mine and the lovely man came running out after us to give me it.We had a fab night and I would recommend it to anyone.Hidden gem.

Love this place. Staff are amazingly attentive and remember you even if you haven't been for ages. Food is superb. A good variety and always tasty. Well spiced. Takeaway as good as eating in. When you go elsewhere for a curry you soon realise just how tasty this food is.

we arrived without booking thinking when we saw the restaurant nearly full but a table was sorted out for both of us.as per previous review its a experience to savor right from the starters to the mains (we took the sunar Joy options) with side dishes).again cannot fault at all, it makes a change to eat the cuisine that's as so many differant tastes and flavors to the palate a testimony to the chef"s backstage.drinks taken Bangla beer recommended Bangladeshi originated certainly as a differant flavor.the staff look after every need even going through the menu card to explain right to meet greet and departing the Sunar we both agreed it was 11/10 for a great evening judging by the locals calling in its a very popular takeaway option as-wellso if your looking for some top Asian food you'd do well to take a ride out and call in at church fenton Sunar

Nidge and his staff are ultimately professional and courteous. We have been going for meals and takeaways at sunar for 16 years and have never had a bad meal or experience. It's not fine dining, I'm sure there's other places for that, but the food is amazing and the service impeccable. You make a friend when you go here and you won't regret it. Don't forget your cash though as no card machine or cash machine locally. Well done sunar Bangl!

Proud to have given the Suna Bangla its first TA review 6 years ago and it's still the best Indian/Bangladeshi restaurant in Yorkshire.Nij makes the pickles & chutneys that go with the poppadums himself, great way to start. Always enjoy a bottle of Bangla Beer and Joy Church Fenton is my favourite curry, bar none!

Visited this restaurant for the wives birthday on Thursday evening.....The staff (Nij) were very polite and helpful.....the food was special....very tasty and filling.Nice little touch at the end...Nij brought Gail a Kulfi ice cream with a candle in for her birthday....thanks Nij.Will be visiting again soon....

The staff here are so nice and so honest my I asked which is the best meal with the least spice and he said chicken corma which i obviously knew but he wasn't saying for this because it expensive which usually happens. me and my son both went for it and i have to say it is one of THE BEST!!

With an over night stay in Church Fenton the four of us visited the restaurant for evening dinner having had it recommended. We were not disappointed, met by friendly staff in nice surroundings and looking over the railway. The service was excellent as was the food. All four of us enjoyed the Pickle tray, our starters and our mains. We had four beers and a glass of red wine and the bill was ever so reasonable. Do visit if you are in the area you too will not be disappointed.

Enjoyed our first meal at this restaurant recently. Met by Nidge who was extremely welcoming and who took our orders promptly. Service was very quick and staff were only too happy to accommodate diners various choices which differed slightly from the menu offered. The food was excellent and all served in a spacious room where noise from other tables was not a problem. We hope this first visit will not be our last.

I used to come here a few years ago with my Husband but to take-away. We have since moved to Selby so didn't go there for take-aways anymore.A couple of months ago, i suggested coming here to celebrate and I have been 3 times since the middle of June. I am pregnant and this place seems to be my craving!! The Korma is absolutely gorgeous and the owner, Nidge recommends some lovely dishes for my Husband. I think it is called 'The Sunar Bangla' I could be wrong but it is so nice. Would always recommend this place to anyone. In fact I quite fancy going tonight. Hmmm.

I have been to this restaurant many times now with my family and I would say as a family, it is our favourite place to eat! As soon as you walk in the staff and very friendly and attentive and give you a good amount of time to peruse the menu! We always get a curry dish each and share rice and chapatis as it is so filling! The portion sizes are excellent! Just enough to keep you full! The onion bhajis and chicken pakoras are firm favourites of ours and we get them all the time! If i could recommend a dish to anyone I would recommend the chilli chicken garlic balti! Lnocks your socks off but has so much flavour and plenty of sauce to dip the chapati in! This restaurant ticks all the boxes and is very good value for money!

We have dined here on a number of occasions, the welcome is always warm and attentive.It will be hard to find better food than that which is served here.Nothing is too much trouble for the staff at this excellent restaurant, even a drink accidentally knocked over was swiftly dealt with, the table cloth being changed and the table reset in seconds.

after passing here several times it was about time we called in here , so sunar bangla is located at church fenton railway station ritually over the platforms !,service excellent helpful with the choices both of us chose starters was nice and the main course was the best Ive had in a very long time.small seating area nice quite atmosphere tidy and clean.if your passing the fenton area don't pass without calling in or your missing out here.takeaway also available.to sum it up will we re-visit ..... yes

Just moved into the area a week ago and thought we'd try this place for our first curry. Everything from its quirky location, customer service and food were excellent. As we paid the bill (which was very reasonable) we were asked if we had enjoyed our first visit as the patron said he didn't recognise us. Can't fault this restaurant. We will return.

Friendly staff with a large menu. If I had to calibrate their idea of 'hot' (in the spicy sense), then the hottest dish they have (a Ceylon) is nuclear. It's a good place to go after / between beers at the White Horse. WARNING! They don't take credit / debit cards and there's no cashpoint nearby.

If he ever has a choice where to go out for tea it will be the Sunar BanglaThey always have fantastic customer service, the owner always remembers us and our "usual's"Good Value for Money and delicious food.The Sunar Bangla does not take cards/cheques so ensure you take cash

My first visit here, although passing by on several occasions. The service could not have been better. Really attentative and considerate and even gave us a Christmas card when we left!!Food was very tasty and the menu was full of house specials, so there was plenty to choose from dishes which are not on other menus. If there was a negative and I'm being really picky here. For my pallet, I would have liked a bit more chilli heat in my food. Told you I was being picky. Would I go back, for sure and it won't be too far distant either. It gets my vote.

Value for money does not get any better than this. Support this local eatery. Attentive service and nice meal.

This is our local Indian restaurant and takeaway. We have never experienced a bad meal from here. Always have fantastic customer service, our take out is carried out to the car for us! Lovely staff, nothing is a problem and very attentive. Meals are always hot and delicious. The Sunar Bangla does not take card so ensure you take cash.

Got a couple of takeouts from here whilst staying over on business. Excellent choice and quality and had a beer whilst waiting. Would recommend. Side point - no card facilities, cash only but worth going to the cash point for!
