Lawai Spice in Selby

I have visited this restaurant frequently over the last 15 years under two different ownerships. We have celebrated special events here, my husband has his 40th, my daughter her 21st and numerous meals on Christmas Day. To say the quality of the food and customer service has plummeted is an understatement. We were served cold dry onion Bahia and undercooked naan. This happens and I get that. But when we fed this back the manger struggled his shoulders walked off. We were told a replacement would be the same. Wow!!! Safe to say we won’t be going back

Had a lovely meal here again, and as it was a birthday celebration got free starters. The food was delicious and the staff very attentive and friendly.

The food, service and atmosphere was amazing. There was no rushing you and the staff were very welcoming. The menu was varied and the food was hot and tasty. Will defo go again and will highly recommend.

Great food, great staff and enjoyed the meal. Could not fault it tonight so will be back and i do recommend it. Enjoyed everything we ordered 😁

Two of us tried the two courses for £14.95 menu last night which is payment by cash only. We thought it was quite good value and the staff were very pleasant throughout. The poppadoms and pickles are extra of course. We enjoyed the bhaji starter and also had a mixed kebab starter which involved another bhaji. The starters came whilst we were still eating our poppadoms. For main the chicken shashlik was very tasty. Although the sizzling dish looked full, only half of this was chicken. The other half was a big onion cut into quarters which was pretty much raw. Maybe it's different if you have the full price menu. The chicken bhuna was nice as was the plain naan and the pilau. As we took our own alcohol it was a good value meal and we will definitely revisit, maybe the full price menu next time.

We thought we would try here as our usual is Jinnah but always good to try new places when they open but we waited over an hour after our collection due time to collect our food and the guy just said I’ve put you some extra popadoms in(great effort) so when we got home it was Luke warm and I really wouldn’t say it was bad it was just average and not as flavourful as our usual so I don’t think I would return.

Tried a take out last night and really enjoyed it. Lovely selection on the menu and will be visiting again very soon. Staff were friendly and service very efficient.

Visited last night for the first time at their new venue, couldn't fault the food and service. Had the Lawai Mix Sizzler for 2 to start, all beautiful especially the fish. Chicken tikka masala for main, all very tasty and fresh. Good prices for quality delicious food. We went because I am celebrating a birthday and the lovely staff brought out some ice cream and a sparkler for me! We will defo be going back. They offer a takeout and delivery service if local to Selby!

Wonderful, authentic and delicious food, in beautiful setting, with friendly and attentive staff. It was our first visit, but it certainly won’t be the last. A hidden gem 🤩

Superb food and service . So glad to have had this place recommended. Definitely will be returning. Excellent menu. Old favourites but some interesting new choices to ponder.

Fabulous food, extensive menu, outstanding service. Couldn’t fault it great night out. Would certainly recommend you give it a try .

The food was great & so was the service. Wear your stretchy pants too because the portions are generous. We will definitely be back soon!!!

We booked for 10 people last night and had the best time. The food was amazing, staff could not have been more accommodating, service was spot on and quick for a large group. Every dish arrived piping hot and several in the group said it was the best Indian food they had eaten. You buy drinks at the bar at really reasonable pub prices instead of the usual inflated restaurant prices. We all had popadoms and pickle trays, all had starters and all had a main (no desserts as too full) and we shared the bill between 10 each paying £21 to cover the food and we left £40 tip as the service was excellent. We all thought £25 each for 3 courses of gorgeous food was a bargain. 100% recommend this little local gem.

I first met the team now resident here in the Unicorn Pub at the Jug inn at Chapel haddersly. they had created an authentic Indian restaurant and takeaway within a local traditional pub serving real ale. Sadly this venture folded and the team were on the look out for a new venue. Having found yet another traditional pub they have taken over a large section of the recently refurbished pub which is now both a sit in restaurant and takeaway. (collection only). I made my first vist without booking this week This was indeed my first visit to the pub. it was Easy to find with both ample road side parking and a large car park. this pub has undergone major building works and everything is clean and fresh. We went into the pub side of things and were easily seated in the comfortable bar area. We were served by a very friendly lady who i take to the land lady. She could not have been more helpful. The real ale was wonderful and reasonably priced. one of the staff from the restaurant happened to come into the bar and we asked if a table for 5 was available. With the answer being a definite yes we took our fresh drinks and wandered through. The restaurant area is large well laid out and nicely presented. we were offered menus and as always took our time selecting 5 different meals and starters with sundry rice, chips and Naans. What i can say is the both the food and service were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were both friendly and attentive. of note was the Mr Naga hot lamb curry i had and the wonderful fish packora. Overall well worth a visit i for one will be back. I wish both the pub staff and the resturant team all the very best thanks for a great evening ian

New surroundings which are far better than the previous ones. Great tasty food freshly cooked. Lovely friendly staff, great service. Highly recommended
