Wonderful building ! Helpful, friendly and attentive staff and excellent food. Maybe a brown tourist sign at the entrance to Morecombe.

The changes brought in certainly took the shine of the experience. It certainly isn't special anymore despite the great views over the Bay. It is more a pub experience with a menu to match. Food not bad but longway of the excellence of the past. No longer a place to celebrate a special occasio.

Based in the expensive Midland Hotel this ‘restaurant’ is run like a low end pub chain. There are large card menus propped up on each table with cutlery in a metal beaker. You have to order food and drinks at the bar - carrying your £30 bottle of wine and glasses to your table. The staff are very pleasant and the food good but portions are mean. Having spent a lot of money to stay at the hotel the dining experience was poor.

Once a beautiful restaurant with magnificent views and a menu to match, now just a cafe living on the restaurants past reputation. What a sorry place it is! Soufflé that had the consistency of a Victoria sponge. Over cooked Gammon. A very bland Fish pie with more cheese than fish. Mussels served cold and a mushy Risotto that looked like wallpaper paste. The kitchen seems unable to turn out the quality of food that the menu promises. The staff were pleasant, but the move to self ordering at the bar - an obvious cost saving measure to reduce staff costs, resulted in uncleared tables and generally a service level that does not match the prices. Such a shame as it used to be a really nice place to go and eat but doubt I would go again. New ownership has not helped this iconic hotel, and while the views will always be magnificent I fear the worst for what should be Morecambe’s premier restaurant.

This is unacceptable. The pictures entry in trip advisor gives a totally false impression of what an appalling restaurant the sun terrace has become. These pictures show white linen laid tables, with sumptuous meals and glasses of table served red wine. THIS IS NOT HOW IT IS. Think less L'enclume, more travel lodge. You have to go to the bar to order you 'food' from a very limited and poor menu, you have to get wine by the glass by getting up and walking. The tables are bare, the ambience is gone. and yet, this entry still shows what it once was. I cannot state more strongly, if you loved the Sun Terrace before the recent changes DONT GO BACK. Totally ruined Valentines night. We walked in and it felt different, we waited at the old lectern to be shown to our table and we were ignored. Attracting attention, we were shown to a dark table with plastic laminated menus and a knife and fork. The menu is more suited to a cheap motel. Then we were left on our own. We perused the menus expecting someone to ask us what we wanted to drink, feeling more and more disappointed. On asking, we were told we had to order food from the poor menu at the bar. We walked out I have never been more disappointed.

Visited tonight for dinner and the service and food was outstanding. Excellent staff who were very friendly, attentive and helpful. Plenty of gluten free options for my wife to choose from - in the end she settled for the GF cod, chips and peas which she rated very highly. I had the beef, roast potatoes and vegetables which was absolutely amazing !! Would highly recommend and definitely return next time we are in Morecambe.

We stayed at The Midland for three nights and had breakfast in the restaurant each morning but only had dinner there once. Breakfast was generally very good albeit varied a little from day to day. I didn’t get my optimal (runny yoke please) poached egg until the final day but the cooked breakfast and salmon and eggs were all very good. There was a modest cold buffet too and the pastries and jams were especially good. Dinner was a little hit and miss. My wife’s celeriac soup and steak were both excellent. However I was disappointed with my shrimps. I do enjoy shrimps but these were decidedly lacking in numbers and most importantly lacking in taste. They were not worth the £13 asking price. My fish of the day was modest in size but well cooked. Wine list was fine and reasonably priced. Staff at all times were excellent.

This was a special family lunch. It is not possible to book - very inconvenient when people are coming from various parts of the country. Lovely table with beautiful view but appalling service - waiter rude & overbearing we were not made welcome & felt rushed & uncomfortable. I delivered letter to manager by hand & had no reply. Other people I know have had similar experiences so perhaps this restaurant is best avoided unfortunately because it has wonderful views.

This building is quite striking with the art deco inside it is worth visiting just for that. We popped inside wandered around the centre then came back later in the afternoon. Note it is worth pre-booking if you want a cooked meal or afternoon lunch. If you turn up on spec line us you are limited to a small bar menu. We ordered sandwiches. I found the portions huge. I had to take some of mine home in a doggy bag. The views are amazing. I found the restaurant too warm on the sunny day we were there. Staff were friendly and attentive.

We recently had afternoon tea here - we brought a dog so we were placed at a table just outside the restaurant but still with a great view. We were quite happy with that. Service was uniformly excellent. The staff here are obviously very well trained, and it shows. The service is professional, neither too snooty nor too informal. Judged just right. The food was great, too. Lovely scones in particular, they were delicious and very fresh. The cakes were great quality too and generously sized! And of course a good choice of finger sandwiches. We were certainly full up by the end. The price, at £25 per head, is about right for the quality of the food, the service and of course the great location. This is a wonderful hotel. I would recommend afternoon tea here without hesitation. Just one thing - you do have to pre-book. A quick phone call is all it takes.

I live in Morecambe. So my sister was here for the weekend and wanted to try the Midland. We were early. We were asked to "sit in the lobby" as there were people in the queue behind us who had earlier bookings. We asked if we could have a drink whilst we perused the menus that had been thrust into our hands. "The bar's over there". Off to the bar. Ordered the drinks. Paid for them. Carried them back to a table within "The lobby". Just past 8 pm my sister went back to the reception point and explained we were still waiting. We had clearly been forgotten. We were shown to a table for two. The table was arranged in such a way that one of the chairs was impossible to use. My sister then had to move the table as the waitress had disappeared. I am disabled so my sister also had to pull my chair out to make sure I could be seated. Another waitress appeared to advise that the fish of the day was turbot. A few minutes later a waitress approached and took our order for the turbot (we had both chosen) and the wine. Chosen to go with the turbot. Almost immediately waitress number one reappeared with the wine and said "the turbot has changed. It's bream. Is that okay?" No it wasn't. Menus returned. No mention of the wine and as to whether it would still be suitable. It's worth noting here that the noise level was horrendous. Not helped by the fact that there were no table cloths. The curtain at the end of the terrace which covers the window which overlooks the Rotinda Bar, was hanging off the rail. New curtains to be honest but last time I was in there there the other curtains were hanging off. Does this hotel not have a housekeeper. Or, for that matter, a maitre d. By now we were pretty sure the direction of travel. My sister ordered a steak. Rare. I ordered the burger (I had serious doubts about it all by this stage, and wasn't convinced that they could actually manage anything better). I did ask for the bun to be omitted. The waitress looked shocked. Meal arrived. Pub grub. Pub presentation. Reasonably enjoyable but certainly not the kind of meal I had been expecting. By now the noise levels were much increased. And they were setting breakfast tables around us. I have no idea why but we decided to order the cheese plate. To share. It comes with a small port. So we just requested and additional port. The cheese arrived. The port that accompanied it arrived. The additional port didn't. The cheese was dried out and stale. Eventually somebody came over (when we had finished) and asked if the port had ever arrived. No it hadn't. Oh. We paid the £87 bill and beat a hasty retreat. This is allegedly a four star hotel restaurant. Absolutely shocking. Sadly I am back in a couple of weeks for an free ion tea. I am not looking forward to it. On a more general note the hotel is tired, and distinctly grubby in places. The service is appalling. There is seemingly nobody overseeing anything. Such a shame. Shocking

So, what to say. We have eaten here a number of times and as we had friends visiting booked the Sun Terrace as a special treat. We were disappointed on two counts The restaurant was sweltering hot. The doors were closed, there are no blinds to cut out the sun, and when we asked if there was any way to cool the room, we were told by the waitress “The air conditioning didn’t work well as it went via the kitchen” and it was so very hot it was hard to breathe - so we asked the waitress to cancel our booking, she said, “I know it’s too hot, I have to work in it” We did ask her about the restaurant layout though. The Midland was always classy, tables not too close together, linen table cloths, white chairs, polished glasses, attentive staff, but not now. The table she showed us to was oblong - pushed up against the window with two chairs either side, no table cloths just wooded surface, brown wicker chairs, backing onto the chairs of the tables behind, which are in a line - like a canteen and definitely not what you expect in a quite pricey restaurant. The waitress said they were the new tables and didn’t need cloths. It was all very sad. We beat a hasty retreat.

Poor service average meal. On arrival the girl who showed us to our table in the boiling hot Sun Terrace was not happy when we asked to be in a cooler area. Definitely not welcoming. Young lady who took our order was very helpful however the 3/4 chatting over/behind the bar delayed the service on more than one occasion. My wife ordered steak medium turned out to be rare. When we enquired about a steak knife ..” I will see if I can find one “ …” no we don’t have steak knives “ Great setting but average food overpriced and definitely not value for money. Couldn’t wait to get out.

Actually pains me to write an average review of this beautiful restaurant because we’ve had many a great meal here and come for cocktails regularly! So we came for Mother’s Day ! We came to be seated at our allocated time to be told rather abruptly that the restaurant wasn’t ready as they’d been very busy , ok your not ready but don’t be abrupt ! Staff seem to be very young and ever changing and don’t seem to have much training in hospitality ( this has been an issue in the past ) We we’re then seated , I used to love the midland for its big round tables , tableware and space , we were now seated at a small rectangular table that seemed to be squeezed in to provide space for more tables ! Starters … Morecambe bay potted shrimps ,, mmmm ok , not great , this should be an absolute stand out starter ! Then we ordered a bottle of Prosecco to be given cloudy small stemmed glasses that hadn’t seen a dishwasher , I asked for different glasses to be told no we don’t have any ? Main course ….5 slices of chewy beef on diced root veg with 3 dots of mash for £34 , certainly not worth the money . Desserts were delicious , good selection of wine , ambience , views as always amazing ! It’s those little things that make people’s dining experience and the money they pay for this experience special , please remember that guys x

As always, the food and service were superb. The compliance with covid requirements were perfect, obviously in place and very well executed, but unless you looked carefully, in the background and not obvious.

My wife and I had a meal with two friends. The staff were meticulous in ensuring that social distancing and other precautions were taken in both the Rotunda bar and the restaurant. However no staff were wearing any face coverings which caused us some concern. In some other food outlets, staff did wear face coverings. The meal was very good and fair value for money. The service was a little slow at times.

Had a superb meal with superb service in a superb setting. The covid observance is excellent. Every table is completely stripped of all linen, chairs are cleaned after each diner leaves.. Every diner is givne a full set of the necessary cutlery wrapped in a proper serviette. The whole place is immaculately clean We both started with Morecambe bay shrimps which were lovely. I followed with lamb pnd my husband had a pork dish. Both tasty and beautifully presented, Finished with creme brulee which was perfect with a lovely crispy top. Good wine and altogether a great experience.

Supper and breakfast in the Sun Terrace were served with charm and efficiency - and there was none of that common feeling of the solo traveller getting the worst seat and the worst service in the house. They lose marks only for sadly weak coffee at breakfast

We stayed at the hotel and dinner was included. We had mains and desserts and the steak and cheeseboard carried a supplement but were well worth it.The main meals were wonderfully cooked and presented. The service is excellent with good explanation about their new systems in place for social distancing. We watched the sun set and it was a very relaxed ambience.

Travelled from Liverpool, made reservation online through their website, only to be told no reservation has been made. No effort made to rectify, just told fully booked and it’s tough. Will not be returning. If you do book please triple check they your booking and make sure they don’t fob you off because they are busy. Working in the hospitality industry myself I would have made an effort to make room and not turn a family with two young babies away.

Spent our 8th wedding anniversary at the midland and ate in the restaurant, The food was brilliant and a quick polite service. The current COVID guidelines where brilliant and very clear. The starter was mushroom soup and duck, The mains where beef fillet and to finish lemon meringue and sticky toffee.

Our party of four decided to celebrate a family occasion at the Sun Terrace restaurant in Morecambe's iconic Midland Hotel. We were blessed with a breezy sunny evening which enhanced the spectacular views across beautiful Morecambe Bay.Thankfully, the meal livid up to the location and the views. We were welcomed by enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly staff members who were very clear about Covid arrangements. We were quickly made to feel safe and cared for.We enjoyed 3 courses each and every dish was special. The chicken main course was beautifully cooked and ll the seafood and fish dishes were fresh and delicious.Puddings were sweet and indulgent and the cheese board featured local cheeses. It's rare to have a meal where every diner thoroughly everything on offer and it's great that this was the case. All in all, we loved the whole occasion - a fabulous family celebration.Well done to The Midland staff.

Atmosphere was good. Quite expensive really for what it was. Food OK. Paying a premium for the view.

We were given a voucher for two for Xmas and hadn't been able to use it until now because of covid. However, 2 weeks ago they opened with all the right government rules in place. We heRd about it on the grape vine and decided to give it a go. We added two to our party and booked on line mentioning the voucher and the additional people, one of them being a child. We got an email reminder the day before and a lovely welcome on arrival. We were seated and served in the sun lounge with everything being perfect. Don't just take my word for it, go and see for yourself.

On Sunday 5th July, we had afternoon tea here with two friends. It was delicious, a variety of small crustless sandwiches, miniature cakes (i.e. Victoria sponge) the lightest of scones, clotted cream, jam, home made lemon curd and as much tea as we could drink. On Monday 6th July, we had dinner in the beautiful glass walled dining room with fantastic views over Morecambe Bay. Again, delicious food and can't fault the service. Special measures in place for Covid19 but not intrusive.

Enjoyed a prosecco afternoon tea for 2 today. Arrived over an hour early due to less traffic then expected. Spoke to Joanne - restaurant manager (?) who was very pleasant and accommodating. No problem to eat earlier. Offered to sit us at a table with tea or coffee until afternoon service started at 1pm but we chose to return slightly later. Sandwiches lovely and fresh on both white & brown bread. Lovely patisseries and the scones were delicious-one fruit & one plain( very light not at all heavy like you get in some places) served with strawberry jam and excellent homemade lemon curd. Also several hand sanitizer stations both manual and automatic throughout. Felt very safe.

A perfect situation to see the most beautiful sunset across the sands of Morecambe Bay whilst the menu is perused and decisions made on what to choose from a variety of dishes, all so tempting. The quality of the food was excellent and very attractively presented. Definitely unusual and for us ingredients and preparation not experienced previously.

We visited for Afternoon Tea only and very good it was too - we had chosen this hotel because of its location and art deco architecture - right on the sea front so we had a great view seated as we were in the sun lounge . food was plentiful and excellent - all fresh with sandwiches, scones and cakes .Good service too.

Wow, the food was fantastic here. Bar staff Laura very attentive and lovely. Food was properly home-made (independent pub I think) with a proper chef and you can tell. Fish and chips was fantastic.

Very friendly and efficient staff. Beautiful y cooked food. Had the chicken and ham hock pie, small portion as there was a choice of sizes, ample for me. Lime and ginger cheesecake was lovely, although the biscuit base was quite hard to cut. Breakfast the next day was a plump beautifully cooked lancaster kipper. Delicious. Overnight room very comfy with great shower and comfy bed

Very good poke bowl vegetarian takeout. Second time we tried. Gluten free no problem. City’s fessing very good. Very fresh, lots of custom options. Had tofu both times, wish there were a little more tofu and less rice.
