Always pop in the Sun if we're in Richmond as the service has always been quick and friendly along with good food served. This is a proper pub not a plastic imitation of one and well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Clearly not the A team tonight given minimal eye contact at the bar, no acknowledgement I was waiting, and then when my turn came up, he had to ask me whether I was waiting despite being there for 2 or 3 minutes. At the same time, no please or thanks mentioned and despite holding a menu to order food, and the bar staff saw me waiting to do this, when I eventually got served, I was told the kitchen didn't open until 6pm - it was 4 minutes to 6!! Trouble is the Fullers Pride is really good so I will probably be going in again, but it will be reluctantly!!

A really cozy atmosphere with lots of nooks and crannies. Stuffed full of rugby memorabilia, even on the ceiling, it's a great experience. They were showing the Rugby whilst we were here and it seems to have genuine rugby fans here who were watching the match intently. I really enjoyed the experience! Tucked away off the main high street, you could easily miss this place - it's signposted from the high street and you have to go down a narrow alley to get to it - so you could easily overlook it!

Went to Richmond to watch Bedford play Richmond, first away game for rugby and visited the sun inn before the game for a drunk and some food. The pub was excellent, friendly and the staff were great. We ordered drinks then some food. We had burgers with chips, the burgers were amazing filling and proper with bacon and cheese, filled me up a treat washed down with London pride. The atmosphere was brilliant in the pub that after the game we went back for more before the journey home, this is a pub I will be visiting again if I am in the area, I recommend a visit

Revisited this pub for the first time in a while. Last time I was here I was horrified to find football on TV prioritised over rugby in Richmond's oldest rugby pub. This time the imbalance was addressed - rugby on all screens. Staff were friendly and helpful. Beer was in fine condition. I just wonder whether there has been a change of management? The pub seemed a whole lot better than I remember it.

The Sun Inn definitely isn't the trendiest pub in Richmond, but along with the Britannia it is my favourite. Old fashion, cozy rugby pub. Hearty and unpretentious food at very reasonable prices for the area. Chilli con carne and the weekly curry night both tasty and great value. Plenty of cool rugby memorabilia & I love watching sports in here - staff always v. friendly. Glad they are sticking to their roots rather than trying to become a gin/wine bar or fancy gastropub like several other places in the area

Very atmospheric Richmond pub with terrific array of Rugby memorabilia - like a real pub should be - however it's beginning to show its age which is detracting from how good it should and could be. We arrived before the rush after Big Game 12 on 28 December and the pub was half full. Two teenagers in the group (both over 5' 10") needed to use the loo and their path was immediately blocked by a most unwelcoming and unpleasant woman who spat out that children were not allowed in the pub. Charming! Even less charming when it was explained that the boys were desperate. People, staff, employees there .... just leave the hospitality business if that is how you welcome customers.

We called in here for a round of drinks last Saturday before heading onto an England rugby international at nearby Twickenham... The pub was very very busy, as it is a popular drinking stop for people on their way to rugby games... outside multiple people were drinking and inside the bar was also packed...Despite this, the service was outstanding and we were served in minutes... there must have been about 6-8 bar staff constantly serving and asking who was next so customers were served in no time...The decor maybe a touch dated, but this is a traditional boozer and full of character...There were real ales and the usual drink options you find in a decent pub, plus even food being served outside from a BBQ...The atmosphere was friendly and jovial and people were enjoying themselves... probably the best pub in the area near the station... we thought it was brilliant!

A great old pub with some comfy fireside chairs. It has a 'log' fire (I have not checked if it is a real log fire or a gas powered one) in the Winter and a cool breeze in the Summer. The staff are always friendly and helpful; the food is rather good for a pub and the service is also above average. There is plenty of seating outside; at the front you can look over at the local pond and wildlife and out the back there is a greater seating area.Make this your first choice of pub if you are in the area and you might decide not to go anywhere else.

Further to my previous review (and long-held opinion) I was surprised on a recent visit that a football match was to be shown on all screens on a day when the only local Premiership team, Harlequins, had an important televised game. Ever since that occasion my rugby pals and I have boycotted the pub in favour of other rugby pubs in and around Twickenham. It's a shame because I always viewed The Sun as a rugby pub through and through and have always enjoyed my tele-viewing visits in the past. Good things are the location, the Fullers beers, the range of bar snacks and the (big) matchday ambience. For me these don't outweigh the preference given to football over rugby under the current regime.

Unfortunately the management of this pub changed hands not too long ago and it has been in decline ever since. They have treated loyal customers with indifference clearly thinking that they are so popular that it doesn’t matter. However the number of patrons frequenting this establishment are in rapid decline even on rugby days which demonstrates how poor the customer service has become. The new owners are also arrogant and stuck up and I will no longer be going here!

Always enjoy a visit to The Sun. It is probably the most established of Richmond's bevy of rugby pubs and offers a number of big screens, good food and the pick of Fullers' beer repertoire at the bar. We've tried this venue for drinks and a meal several times now over the last few months. During our most recent visit when the barperson brought the menus to our table they failed to wipe the numerous spillages which had clearly been left by the previous guests. Unfortunately, this was the only table left... Directly under the full pelt of the very loud speakers !While waiting to place our food and drink order at the bar I was ignored for some time yet other customers arriving after myself were served almost immediately. Eventually our order was taken, the experience was hardly encouraging, there was certainly little friendly or pleasng personal interaction throughout.Upon returning to our table I noticed that the spillage had still not been dealt with so I walked back to the bar and pointed this out (we had just ordered food); I was handed some tissues and was left to do the mopping up myself...To the staffs defence I have to say that on a previous visit we did overhear one of three very loud slightly inebriated men shouting very unwelcome, public and lewd references to one of the female bar staff. Of course we fully appreciate that this objectionable and uncontrolled kind of behaviour may very well account for why the bar staff appear to be reluctant to engage with customers in a more friendly manner...?Food OK... service, cleanliness and ambience extremely disappointing.

After walking there from Twickenham we preferred the cool of the evening air and joined the good natured throng on the footway outside. The security staff were friendly and pleasantly interactive and obviously used to rugby fans, many of whom had most likely exceeded recommended alcohol unit levels for the day. A first rate rugby fans watering hole.

Went in to this pub recently and the staff are rude, very poor service. The pub itself is in a really poor and tatty condition and over priced, £5 for Flat beer and £1.20 for soda water. Avoid this pub, there are plenty of much nice pubs in Richmond.

According to husband, real ale was flat and did not taste good. Sat outside amongst the smokers, which is how it is these days at pubs. But quiet and quite pleasant courtyard garden.

Popped into this pub on a Sunday. I have been here before, but usually after a rugby match, as the pub is close to Richmond, London Scottish and London Welsh grounds, when it has been lively. On this visit, it was very quiet at lunchtime. There was no-one behind the bar when I visited. I said hi to the owner/manager, who was with his wife, kids and grandchild in the extension to the bar. He was obviously too important to serve me, as he went to find the barmaid, who had obviously gone to powder her nose. She was very pleasant. I had a glass of wine and took a look at the very reasonable menu. I asked for a cheese roll. They could only do a cheese sandwich, but so what. the sandwich was perfectly ok.......BUT, the family completely dominated the pub. They were so loud. They played music (Christmas music, in April...) for the grandson to dance to. It went on for ages. To be honest, the owner/manager has always come across as quite grumpy when I have been to the Sun Inn before (twice). But, to be honest, if I wanted ti go drink beer in a kindergarten, I would do so (not). The contempt for the few customers who were there on a wonderfully sunny day, when other pubs were packed, was extraordinary. A total dump.

Great pub with superb beer - London Pride. Ideal place for a pre rugby drink on the best day of rugby in years

Stopped at the Sun - Jason Leonard's pub - on the way to Twickenham to see England play Scotland. Enjoyed so excellent London Pride but the pub was 'heaving' so not the time to come if you wanted a quiet drink!

On a rugby afternoon, after buying a round of expensively-priced soft drinks and beers we sat down to savour the moment. Our two young (ten-years old) sports fans sat and talked quietly and as we were about to finish our first round a fired-up member of staff came over to firmly inform us that children were not allowed in the bar. He suggested we move to the back or outside and as we finished our drinks before leaving, sensing the hostility and unwelcoming attitude, he stood by the table flapping his arms palms upwards to indicate we needed to go immediately. Nasty. Stay away unless you don't like or have well-behaved children.
