Sun Hotel Restaurant and Bar in North Hertfordshire

We had a terrible experience at this restaurant. The food took ages to be served despite it not being busy, the food was lukewarm at best, they forgot half our order, and lied throughout about why the food was taking so long. We came here for Sunday Roast with four of us and a 20-month old child. The restaurant was mostly empty, however, we waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for our food, after insisting given the little one was getting hungry. They first said they had mixed up their tables and gave our order to another table. When they finally brought the food out, it was lukewarm at best, with poor portions, and 2 out of 5 roasts were missing. They initially said these were coming soon and were being cooked “right now”. They said this would take 10 minutes. 20 minutes later, the waiter then told us that they had actually forgot to order the other 2 roasts. We ended up leaving without getting the other 2 roasts as we were waiting ages. They did give us a bottle of prosecco and 20% off our food, but the dishonesty and atrocious service was a disaster. This ruined our lunch and we will never coming here again.

Popped in for a late afternoon/early evening meal with the family. Food is great and reasonably priced, good drink selection, and the staff were all lovely too. Lisa in particular really made our afternoon! She was great and couldn’t do enough for us.

Came in on thursday and had the best service, Big shout goes out to "Lisa"who was so kind, poilte and attentive, she couldn't do enough for us, what an asset she is to you, Breakfast was amazing too. With service like that we will 100% be coming back very soon.

We came to The Sun after an unsuccessful visit elsewhere. We were seated and had out food & drinks within 20 mins. The manager was incredibly efficient, polite as we're all other staff we encountered. The food was amazing and the steak was cooked to perfection!

Visited for a lovely lunch. The staff were kind and helpful. Particular thanks to David the chef and his team. This is our third visit in as many months, as we have enjoyed the food. It is well cooked and tasty with a good choice for vegetarians. Prices are reasonable as well. Happy to recommend the restaurant in this hotel.

Booked a room because we had stayed here in September......What has happened Given keys to a room the bed covers looked like they had been tossed on and the mattress protector was disgusting. Went to reception and given another room oh my what has gone wrong here guys have the staff changed.... the toilet was stained the shower had a tide mark, the shower screen has not been cleaned properly in a long time, the beading next to the toilet was thick in dust.... had not been cleaned this week by the amount of dust. If you look back you will see in September I left a favourable review. Please fix your problems because something has gone seriously wrong wasn't perfect in September but it has gone downhill since then

Friendly service and enjoyed food by Evans and a cheerful lady (forgot name) Was there two days and spent nights at the place.

Currently going through a refurb but put this aside , the staff are great here , warm , friendly and very helpful . The hotel is situated in hitchin which is a great location for bars shopping and for myself work for a few weeks .one of the main reasons to stay here is the food iris first class , served up fresh and presented well by Evans , morning for breakfast and evening for dinner , rooms are small, cosy and comfortable ,and sneed bringing up to spec with other greene king pubs / hotels .

6 of us - old school friends- all in our 70's -enjoyed a lovely meal. All had different mains and we cleared our plates. Food nice and hot. Fresh vegetables and nicely presented. Would have got excellent but initial waitress had no idea. We were saved by Charlie, lovely young woman. New to The Sun Hotel and on the bar but took over and served us so well. Very good value for money. We were not rushed so spent 3 hours there giving us plenty of time to catch up. Our first reunion since pre-covid. Delighted. Highly recommend. Free parking a bonus on a busy market day. Just more staff training required.

I dont know what happened this day in comparison to some other reviews... This was AWFUL in all respects. Ordered the bacon and poached eggs with toasted sourbread. It was the most unappetising thing I think I've ever seen. Overcooked eggs with a very odd colour to them as if they had been cooked in dirty water, undercooked bacon, the bread had barely been shown the toaster and coffees were luke warm! The staff seemed as if they were on another planet and in need of a good nights sleep......

Great wee hotel. Exceptional staff who were friendly, chatty, went above and beyond for everyone there, in particular Adam - couldn't do enough to make sure everything was perfect for my best friends wedding. Food was lovely, drinks were well priced, free parking for guests. Beds super comfortable, rooms nicely decorated and good size, powerful shower. Everywhere was very clean. Only slight con is our en suite could do with a refurb and the lighting wasn't great in our room, but considering how great everything else was, it's such a small con. Would 100% stay again and recommend to others. Thanks for such a great weekend!!

Such a great change in the Sun since the new manager Adam has taken over. Yes, some of the rooms need updating but the staff are amazing. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. The food cooked by Evans is fab and Mario is so helpful. Staff go above and beyond. Thank you for a brilliant stay as usual.

Elirose is a bloody diamond only come in when she’s working. Shan is very sweet and helpful love her. Had a chicken avocado bacon sandwich which was nice, a bit hard to eat but nice. However the cocktail made by Elirose was delicious. Would 100% come again if Elirose is working.

We booked in and went to the bar to met by a lovely lady called Shan who became a permanent fixture throughout the weekend, Shan was chatty, smiley and nothing was to much bother for her. The hotel as a whole was a good place to see our friends from Hitchin close to the shops and other bars in the area. We visit Hitchin a few times a year and will always be checking to see if the Sun has any space. Sunday roast was awesome even if you dont stay at the hotel you gotta go taste the Sunday roast. We are staying at the hotel and decided to go here for a Sunday roast. Wow. It was the best sunday roast I have ever had and the server Shan made our meal so much more enjoyable. Would recommend this for food defintely!

Came here on Sunday for Sunday lunch. Was told due to delivery issues there was no draught soft drink or beers or larger which was a bit annoying. When our food arrived it was missing the cauliflower cheese which we were really looking forward to and was told that it was also out of stock and extra veg had been provided. I did not feel there was any extra there. The food was actually very nice and we were happy with what we had. When it came to paying the bill the waitress actually asked me if I would be leaving a tip! This made me feel quite uncomfortable and put on the spot. I felt I had to say yes and was then asked if I would be tipping cash or card!! I reluctantly paid extra on my card but felt this was a bit rude! Have NEVER been asked this before, bad form.

Sunday Roast Trio was fantastic and plenty full… exactly what you need and couldn’t have been more helpful and nice. Highly recommend giving going for the roast dinner if your passing

Really enjoyed lunch on a slow Sunday here. My mum and I were looked after by Nicki, who is a credit to your business, and the food was fantastic and very well priced. We couldn't have asked for more. Will revisit and recommend to friends.
