Much better this time. Girl on till was happy and smiley and lady who brought the drinks out had a happy smile and a little joke - made us feel like they wanted us in there. Lovely cake generous portion and nice and fresh all round.

Booked a afternoon tea for 4 adults and 2 kids meals for my 50th , absolutely fantastic service the food was beautifully presented and plentiful ended up with boxes to take bits home, From the lovely young lady on the till think her name was libby to all the girls who prepared and served us you made it a lovely experience thank you

Hmmm, till staff still need to cheer up and a bit of customer service training. Miserable the last time we went and the mood has still not improved. Asked if they had something just got told "no", never heard of saying "no sorry but we have got this ....... etc" basic customer service manners really. All our Group commented the same. Didn't feel welcome to eat or spend money there so just had a coffee, which was fine. I think with so many cafe establishments to choose from in the area more effort is needed.

Looked beautiful, however it was Luke warm maybe they should invest in a probe, luckily I had vegetarian and was OK, unfortunately hubby had meat 😟

I only wanted a coffee and asked for a flat white which they didn't have so opted for a caramel latte. I couldn't believe I was then asked for my table number when I only wanted a drink. After waiting for over 20 minutes I was about to ask for a refund and my drink finally arrived. It was awful and very expensive. I definitely won't be returning or recommend.

Went for two roast dinners Monday 22nd January, Got to say it was the worst meal we’ve ever had. The only bit of saving grace was the beef. The peas were washed out and almost colourless and tasteless.The Yorkshire pudding was like a rubber inner tube,The carrots in all honesty were ok. Taking the Big Prize were the Roast Potatoes they were murdered, Totally rock hard the fork would not go in through the burnt black skin, We just eat the beef. What a waste of £17……never again!!!!!, Oh after dishing it all up on the plates it was taken out the back to be Microwaved UNBELIEVABLE

Excellent value & great quality food. Had a fabulous home cooked steak pie with lots of freshly cooked veg for £8 & large pot of tea for £2.10.. friendly staff. Best value cafe in Burton, upstairs in the Octagon centre. Give it a try I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Went for breakfast with my friend.... place was fairly busy which was nice to see..... sat in the window seats too people watch..... both ordered the eggs royal.... I asked for no sauce... a little wait ...... but at least u know it being cooked fresh..... excellent quality and service with a smile..... we will be back

First time visiting the summer house and shall definitely return. Good selection on the menu we had a hot turkey roll with mini roasts and gravy was huge and fresh. My daughter had a tuna toastie again very fresh and home made. The cakes looked delicious too. Shall return next time i am in town thanks

Been a couple of times now and in summary the cafe is located upstairs at the Octagon Centre where there is plenty of seating. The menu is limited with the highlight being a good value carvery which is very popular. Unfortunately this results in long delays is getting your meal.

Found this bakery by accident in the market place but glad we did. Takeaway cakes were great value and also do bigger whole cakes to order via Facebook. Picture is one of these we took away for the family! Bakewell tart was excellent!

So ordered three xmas afternoon teas to arrive in between 11.30_ 13.30 on a Saturday. They arrived around 12.30 and I have to say very impressed with them more than enough for 2 people for £18.00 thought that was a bargain. Food very high standard thoroughly enjoyed by all you guessed it we will be back

My wife and I decided to spend a day shopping in Burton as we had heard there was lots to see. In general we had an excellent day. We decided to have lunch in this indoor market establishment as we like to support the independent trader where possible. The food was fine but the young lady who served us was surly and rude, as if she didn't really want to be there. I'm afraid we won't return as there are plenty of other establishments to choose from.

This was my first time dining here. I was surprised at the large portion of food and the excellent salad garnish that came with the jacket potato. The potato was large and well baked. There was a festive tablecloth and condiments provided. It was served quickly and the staff were very friendly. The two meals and drinks ordered were good value for money.

I have been to the summerhouse bakery every Saturday morning for the past 4 weeks and I have to say I have been very impressed each time I have been with the level of quick and friendly service I received and also how nice my breakfast has been each time, the quality of food is second to none in burton as I have visited most cafes in the local area and I would highly recommended stopping by to enjoy one of the best full English’s around. All members of staff made me feel welcome and the general environment and atmosphere is a good one to enjoy your breakfast in. 10/10 for me.

We were looking around the market and the sight of the cakes drew us there to the summerhouse bakery, there was a large selection of cakes to choose from and they where delicious and we where naughty and indulged ourselves, added a coffee and pot of tea which where also lovely.

We ordered 2 cakes for our daughters and two hot drinks, We asked the staff for skimmed milk but was told by a large blonde woman rudely that she doesn’t have any skimmed milk at this time of day. It was 1:35pm Avoid

We have had lunch here several times before and this is why we keep returning. However today we were left feeling disappointed with our food. Unfortunately they didn’t have any prawns for the Prawn Salad so asking what alternative are available I was offered quiche, I asked what was in the quiche,“Cheese and Tomato “ was the curt reply as though there couldn’t possibly be any other filling. We also requested 2 portions of wedges ( we had them last week) to go with 2 bacon rolls, “No wedges” - no sorry or anything else offered, “Have you got chips”? “Yes” so I ordered chips. When the food arrived the quiche salad was not a patch on the prawn salads we have had previously and the side orders of chips were very poor, a very small portion and a lot of the chips were like from the bottom of the bag ie bits. Watching other people’s orders coming out their plates were piled high with chips ( obviously more regular customers than we are ) The drinks order was also not right but easily rectified but still another thing wrong. My husband wanted a piece of Bread Pudding but when he asked for a piece was told that they weren’t cutting it as it was for an event tomorrow, why not make 2 ? I don’t think we’ll be rushing back. :-(

We always have a lovely lunch at Summerhouse Bakery. Cheesecakes are amazing. Food is reasonable priced and always made fresh. The cafe is always busy but we've never experienced unhappy staff of wait times.

Well, it has been a while since I have had the pleasure of dining here at Summerhouse Bakery. (about two years). I must say it did not disappoint. I brought guests with me and we had Afternoon Tea for 6. The plates where fantastic... crammed with goodies. It was all served by a polite and friendly waitress. We had tea and coffee, cakes, scones, sandwiches, and salad... There was a good atmosphere and we really enjoyed our visit. We will return!!

Came to the bakery in the week and was beyond disappointed, the staff in the cake shop are rude and you can hear them calling eachother mong holes and pedos which isn’t great. The blonde one on the till rolls her eyes when you take more than 10 seconds to choose what you want, also seen her hanging round a table of men having a laugh so pretty clear why we got bad service! All that into consideration we ordered 2 paninis as it was our lunch break and we complained that we waited nearly an hour for them as we had to be back at work, we got them and had to basically wolf them down to get back to work whilst sitting looking at dirty tables whilst the staff was chatting away. The food was mediocre at best I wouldn’t come back for it. I was going to complain but my fitness had similar experiences here to which they heard the owner slagging them off and once confronted it got dealt with, it’s a shame you can’t sack owners. 0 stars summerhouse, awful service, awful food and worse owners.

i have been going to the summer house bakery for a while now and feel like nothing is ever to much trouble custumer service is a main priority along with great taisting food staff were very welcoming i feel appreciated for my custom im not just another number to them its a very well organised buisness and my cakes are amazing my custumers at my barbers shop always comment on thr way they look and taste fab service and the celebration cakes are unreal always a talkig point at any of the partys in which i do great staff great team thanks for making me so welcome and appreciated x

I often pop in to the market and go and get my regular Latte coffee at this place, always a lovely roast dinner to be had with pudding at a great price ( proper homemade too) if your looking to get a good meal at a reasonable price this is the place to go and a lovely choice of cake too. Lovely friendly staff who even when busy take the time to have a little chat, lovely place for a cuppa and a sit down

I have been coming to this café regularly for the past few months with my sister. I have never before felt the need to put anything on TripAdvisor but after the last two visits things have got progressively worse. the three stars I have given are for the friendly hard-working staff in the tea and cake part, friendly service at the till from an older lady with glasses, the other staff that bring drinks and food out are all very friendly and amazing customer service. Now for the bad. A young girl with blonde short hair always touching her lips, unhygienic when dealing with food. Her language is offensive calling other members of staff lezzas and mongs. My sister has down syndrome and can hear this. There are many other disabled customers. Is this café homophobic or against disabled people? I was so shocked I asked for the manager only to be told this Falmouth girl is the manager. I asked for the owner but was told she was on jury service. Another time I came in with a friend only to hear this girl talking about blowjobs with an older man. another customer got up and left he has clearly hurt her. I cannot believe this girl is employed as a manager and feel that the owner needs to know what is going on in their absence

I've heard great things about this little cafe and it does look cute in the middle of the market place, bringing plenty of people in. This is obviously great, so we thought we'd try it. It was busy, but not full, and we were about three people deep in the queue, but it took about 10 mins to be served. All the lady needed to do was write down orders but she was having full on conversations with people so the queue was building. We ordered, got our food fairly quickly (about 10 mins) but no drinks until we had finished! The food was mediocre and for £4 I expected more than a small sandwich (gf option). The tray was dirty, the cutlery was dirty. I asked for our drinks and a lady said that they were on the way. Just as my mum went up to get her money back as we had to leave, they gave us them. The young staff didn't seem to want to be there passing the blame to the others. It's such a shame, but I wouldn't go to this cafe on a Saturday. I'd maybe try in the week when it'll be quieter.

Ahhhh this little gem..... it really takes me back to my childhood. The homemade everything that is just so tasty and homely. I love the vintage cups and plates,love that none of them match. Also the prices are really cheap! We live in Derby but come to burton and summerhouse bakery is our fave place to visit. Xx

On a visit to Burton on Trent we wanted a lunch time snack as eating in the evening.By chance we stumbled on this remarkable eatery being encouraged by the number of locals eating there-a good sign. My wife had a homemade parsnip soup and l was tempted by the largest piece of coffee and walnut cake l have ever seen (it did not fit on the plate!) If the main meals are as good then definately worth a visit.

Absolutely fantastic sausage/egg sandwich with sausage from a local butcher, great value , excellent service and always pop in when I'm in Burton. An absolute gem of a tea room.

We visit regularly with our learners, all of whom have learning difficulties and or disabilities. The staff are amazingly accommodating and make each and every learner feel valued and respected! Plus the cakes are amazing and it is super value for money!

We had visited at the beginning of the week for a drink and cake while I waited for shoe repairs at the local cobbler. The service that morning was good and the cake was tasty and portions were plentiful.

This is the first time my friend and i have tried the Summerhouse Bakery. We ordered chicken pie with chips and vegetables. We sat at a table that had not been cleaned and had to ask for this to be done - which was done immediately. When the food arrived we were disappointed to see that gravy had been put on the plate making the chips very soggy - much prefer the gravy to be served separately so that it can be put on the food as we wish. The few chips that didn't have gravy on were very nice and the vegetables were good and although the chicken was very nice, oh dear, the pastry was not cooked properly. The top was not crisp and underneath the top layer it was very soggy. We ate what we could and left the soggy bits. It was a pity the pastry wasn't cooked as the chicken was very good. Although we didn't have cake they did look very good. It was a nice pot of tea and all the teapots have knitted cosies which was a nice touch.

Situated in the Market hall and taking three units, with around thirty tables, it's very popular. The hot food specials are best described as comfort food, Cottage pie, Liver and Onions, Cheese bake or a Roast are typical. Besides the specials, there is a modest menu for Breakfast, Lunch and Tea. There is also a wide selection of home made cakes, baked in one of the three units.

Out with my Niece had her friend to try the new menu, I had a chicken and bacon wrap with sweet potato fries, my niece had Fish, chips and mushy peas and her friend had the same as me but with chips, all was piping hot we could hardly eat it all as we were stuffed, food was lovely and the wrap was stuffed full off filling, didn’t eat for the rest of the day, as we all took home their new 6 layered chocolate cake, the slices are that big it only just fits in the box, great meal for a good price

After reading recent reviews on the summerhouse I felt the need to congratulate the business on what they do well! We as a family are regular customers and are always greeted with smiles by staff members who always make us feel welcome. Most of the staff members remember our orders which is amazing when they’re such a popular cafe which have hundreds of customers. One thing we’ve always appreciated about summerhouse is that they always try to go that extra mile for us and others, whether that’s with food, drinks offers or the occasional time when the cafe is busy staff have waved us over to a available table and had it cleared. Food is always to a high standard and for how much you pay it’s even better, proper fresh homemade food! And as for the cakes wow as far as I’m aware the boss Tracey and her assistant Tyra make those and what a brilliant job they’re doing! Keep up the good work summerhouse bakery x

table clean and crumb free ordered bacon sandwich toasted teacake cappuccino and black coffee ,the bacon sandwich arrived we then waited and waited no sign of coffee and teacake the bacon sandwich was eaten still no coffees or teacake we then asked for missing items teacake not toasted so returned to be browned cappuccino luke warm black coffee burnt taste and I prefer strong coffee, no mention of a wait for items at time of ordering they didn't appear to be busy they had plenty of staff ,another customer was experiencing lack of food and drink he was on his break from work and only had time to eat half ,when you are paying for parkng you need swift service ,we didn't get all our shopping done as parking ran out ,sadly you've lost a new customer

We visited on Saturday morning in September. First time we had been in the market hall for a few years and decided to have a drink. I order large standard coffee and wife had hot choclate with marshmallows and chocolate bits. My wife’s hot chocolate was Luke warm and had to many marshmallows and not enough chocolate drink, my standard coffee was hotish but very strong the time I had put extra milk in then only Luke warm.

I always try to visit this quaint cafe in the Burton-on-Trent market hall as it’s got character lost in so many other establishments. The food is exquisite especially so the cakes and tea is served in a teapot with a hand knitted cosy. If you’re nearby make sure you visit.
