Great food and great service, what else do you need!?

Very average, sweet menu is very poor.

Food and service were excellent, I would definitely recommend the king prawn signature dish, it was very tasty.

One of the best curries we’ve had in years. Had several main courses and a selection of vegetarian starters. Everything was absolutely delicious, hot and fresh and ready exactly on time. Extremely flavourful food and very obvious each dish was cooked properly, not just meat/spices added to a base sauce. Highly recommended.

Last night was the first time I have been to the Sultan in Cirencester. I went with my wife and two friends and what a great experience it was. The staff were friendly and the service was quick and efficient throughout the dinner and the environment was great. The choice of main dishes was very good and were exceptional in taste and heat when served. This was also the case with the rices, naan breads and side dishes (the saag and mushroom was delicious). The owner/boss came to our table a couple of times to check everything was good and was very attentive and courteous. Best curry evening I have had in long time and would definitely recommend the Sultan to anyone. I'll be going back soon.

Very quiet on Sunday night but pleasant environment and warm,great service and attentive, lovely starters and main courses, best lamd jalfrezi I've had for age's, top hole.

On a really busy Friday night, the quality of the food and the service remained outstanding as usual. Plenty of front of house staff managed a full and happy crowd of customers with party sizes ranging from couples to office groups of 18 and more.

This is my go to Indian restaurant in Cirencester. Always a treat.

Very nice madras all other meals were also great. No problems ordering over the phone and collecting. 5* food hygiene rating helps.

We were recommended this place by several people , and we have no idea why ?. Food was OK at best , no check backs on any course ! Service was poor therefor, they did raise a smile on occasion but not typically. The atmosphere was the worst thing...it was like a cattle market with big table making loads of racket...not to our liking at all...more like the sort of place you go to after a nightclub.. big rectangular place so open to a private party maybe but not worth visiting for the food. Its a shame as I don't like writing poor reviews but it was poor , sorry

The food was delicious. The owner/manager went around to each table to ensure everyone was OK. The restaurant was busy which is a testament to how good the food is. I've had lots of different Indian food. This is definitely authentic! We live in London but always come here when visiting. Thank you!

Terrible service, very very rude man on the phone, poppadum turned up in crumbs, hardly any chicken in the korma, super slow delivery.

I've put atmosphere as 4 as when we arrived it was very quiet and had no background music. So felt everyone could hear what we were saying. But luckily as the night progressed it filled up and this wasn't an issue. Perhaps if quiet a bit of background music might help. Food was great! Nothing to complain about.

what a little gem! we were visitors to cirencester and were recommended the sultan by our hotel. delicious food, best nan breads i have ever eaten, difficult to find but well worth the effort. great value and very friendly staff as well!!!

Bland bitter dishes - left half of it on the plate - chicken & spinach capsilla and korai lamb - don’t waste your money - which won’t be back

I have eaten in many curry houses, over the years, but have recently found many to be bland, and lacking in quality - Sultan certainly bucks the trend. Everything we ate was delicious, from our chicken tikka starter to our lamb main. The flavours were lovely and the lamb was cooked to perfection. The service was outstanding and the staff are a credit to the restaurant. Couldn't recommend this place enough.

Best curry I've had in ages. We had 4 off the specials and every single one was amazing. Super musatrdy Rajasthani was a highlight

The ambiance is very nice. Not too loud nor overly busy. Service good - polite staff, friendly, food made to preference and served quickly.

Food was amazing, I would highly recommend the Prawn bhuna and the chef special butter chicken. We went on a Monday but it was busy. Even though there were a lot of people we had excellent customer service and the main manager was hands on. They also catered to my baby's need by providing a baby high chair. To end the night we had a classic lemon sorbet for dessert.

Great food and service. We were a last minute, walk in close to closing and it was no bother for the staff at all. All very friendly and food was fab. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic Indian meal at Sultan on our visit to Cirencester - all the staff were so friendly and the owner came round checking that everyone was okay - he really cared about the food and his customers - and the food was delicious - will definitely return when we are passing by in the future - go and eat here you won’t be disappointed! The four of us (as two couples) had a fantastic evening meal at the Sultan restaurant. The restaurant, which is located on the first floor, was clean with the tables set with linen table cloths and napkins. The food listed on the menu was all to our tastes - so we opted for four different main courses (as well as sharing two different starters - which were given to us on separate plates without us having to ask). All of the main course meals were presented very well in their dishes. The ones with sauce were not flooded (as all to often happens). The food tasted very nice with lots of the different spice flavours coming out. The meat tasted like it had been freshly prepared for our order. The portions were very generous, so much show that we ended up only ordering two deserts - again to share. The staff were very attentive throughout our time here. Would recommend the Sultan, 23 Dyer Street (First Floor), Cirencester, Gloucestershire, to all.

Staff were nice. But they really were adamant that they had vegan options despite the fact that everything had meat and dairy in.

Got a take away and asked for vegan options, they said they could make a vegan option. It came with chicken in it, and the other “vegan” options had dairy and egg… They also told us that the naan was vegan then said it had yogurt in it… They clearly don’t know what people can or can’t eat and that’s extremely dangerous for people who have allergies or religious reason or not eating meat.

One of worst food, I had ever experience... food had hair inside, could taste seekh kabab, manager of the restaurant was continously chewing something..not recommended

I’ve eaten at 100+ Indian restaurants in my life and this place was very very good. Best butter chicken I’ve had in the UK (not sweet if you’re looking for that) garlic naan / nan was in my top 5 ever and the service was fantastic. Great atmosphere, great food and very well priced.

Sat us on a sofa and said wait for a table. 20 mins later said no table was available. Why are you here? Won't be back.

Best curry we've had in ages. Chicken jalfrezi and the lamb buhna were cooked perfectly and were packed with lots of flavour. Will definitely be back!

Awesome service and food. They have plenty of options for vegetarians and carnivores. The vegetarian menu isn't posted but you can ask them and they will make any traditional Indian dish.

We went to the Sultan for my sons 18th birthday and it was the best curry we all have ever eaten. The service was spot on, attention to detail fantastic and the food was excellent. Would highly recommend the peshwari nan and murgh madhu. Thank you Sultan. 😊

Very nice and relaxing place to visit and have a drink in the city centre of Cirencester. Free parking on the street. The food is excellent and the manager is friendly and helpful to suggest dishes for you.

Been here 3 times now , as we live far away ,and we are visiting friends. And we like to come to the sultan . the service and food has been amazing, can’t fault it in anyway , we had starters mains and drinks ,and we all had a great evening. We are certainly looking forward to going again when we visit Cirencester Nx time .

We were only here for a couple nights and decided to try this place. We managed to get a last minute booking for two. The whole experience was perfect, the food was delicious, the service was great and even better pricing. 5 stars - highly recommend!

Fabulous meal at The Sultan. Service was great, very attentive. The food was outstanding - I had a dish new to me - a Pathila- and it was delicious. The Tikka and onion bhaji starters were served at the table from a hot plate on a trolley which was a nice touch. The vegetable rice, naans and the curries chosen by the rest of us were also excellent. They use little hot plates (those ones with a tiny candle in) to keep food warm at your table which deserves extra mention as curry stays hot ready for you to have seconds! I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Ate here while in the Cotswolds for a wedding. Delicious food, biryani with so much soft lamb, saag paneer lovely, fresh naan - all great. Good service and friendly team. Easy parking in the Forum car park and walk through the cut. Yes it’s above a supermarket - don’t let that put you off. Highly recommend.

Visited Sultan last night with friends. Food was excellent - the best Indian dishes I have had for some time. Each dish had its own distinctive flavour which is so often not the case in some Indian restaurants. The restaurant has a lovely ambience and the service was very good. We were unhurried throughout the meal and thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience. The restaurant was almost full which speaks for itself. Very impressed and highly recommended.

First time visiting this restaurant, easy to book a table online with quick response. Atmosphere was very relaxed and wasn’t rushed by the staff to order. Food was excellent, really tasty & good spice. Highly recommended!

Very nice restaurant situated up a flight of stairs. Staff polite and welcoming and no trouble to order something not on menu. Vegetable pathia with chana massala and bombay potatoes and steamed rice. Served piping hot and full of contrasting flavours-pathia nice balance of hot/sweet/sour. Fair prices and nice sized portions-all in all an excellent meal.

Despite the restaurant having all the charm of an office in Milton Keynes, the food we took away was plentiful and really delicious! Our only gripe was the tandoori platter was a little dry but everything else [chef’s kiss]

We have visited this place twice while staying in Cirencester and both times have been a fab experience. The food is beautiful, the staff are lovely, all in all a place to definitely visit if you love Indian food. I wish we had a place like this where we live, unfortunately not.

The Sultan is a very friendly restaurant with great food and service. One of the 'House Specials' is Village Style Begon. Never had this before - it was very good. We asked about how it was cooked and were given details of what to do. Highly recommended

I'm phil from Cardiff was visiting the area with my partner and was looking for nice Indian restaurant and googled this one. We had a dupiaza and pathia with keema rice and nan bread food was absolutely gorgeous fresh n piping hot flavours was outstanding. Staff were very friendly also. If you fancy a nice meal with decent sized portion try this place

The food was fantastic with authentic flavours. The portion sizes were spot on with fresh Nan as well. The front of house, was a great young man who made sure to interact with the customers and ensure the food was to standard. I was very surprised at how good the food was as I have lived in India for 4 years and know what a good curry tastes like! You won’t be disappointed in choosing this place Family friendly too, fantastic location centre of the town! Also all halal!

Has Improved in the last couple of years

We were visiting Cirencester and booked based on other reviews. We both really enjoyed the food and said it was one of the best curries we have had. Also great friendly service . We would come back if we are ever in the area again.

My wife and I had dinner at Sultan on a busy Saturday night but even so, the service was very slow. When it eventually arrived the food was good but the whole experience was spoilt by the poor service. We noticed that they do a lot of takeaway business which obviously impacts on the service in the dining room. They obviously need more kitchen staff to deal with the overall demand. On the plus side, the waiters were very friendly and the prices were reasonable.

A great place to enjoy delicious food. Riq the manager was a great host and ensured we had everything we needed! A great restaurant!

What a great experience, we traveled 1 hour as we had heard how amazing the food was and it did not disappoint! Riq, the manger was really helpful and attended our every need. Can’t wait to come back again…soon I hope!

Don't be put off by the fact that this is above a Morrisons local and is very non descript when you first walk in. The welcome and service we received was excellent. It was very early, and so we didn't have to wait for long. We chose our usual poppadum's with the pickle tray, then I had Naga chicken and my wife had garlic chicken. We shared a mushroom rice and a peshwari nan. These are our go to dishes at a new Indian, as it is the best way to compare with other restaurants. At the Sultan, we were very impressed, portions were very generous and the spice level was excellent, I was speaking with one of the staff later who agreed with me, that the tendency is to go a little more mild until you know your customers, a great idea in my book and whereas mine could have carried a bit more spice, it was still an excellent curry. The price for the meal was really good value, as were the the drinks. It would be almost worth visiting Cirencester just for the curry!! The only thing I would say, is that a few paintings or something would be a nice touch, just so it is not like eating in Morrison's cafe.

We live in Sydney and love a good Indian meal. Whenever we travel overseas we seek out a local Indian restaurant and have tried many over the years. We can honestly say Sultan has been such a delicious and lovely dining experience. The food is outstanding!!!! And the staff are super friendly and lovely. We highly recommend a visit to this restaurant for a delicious meal and a great night.

The food is very tasty. Reasonable prices and very nice and friendly staff. Having lived in the far east for 15 years and being very familiar with authentic flavours I can honestly say this is the only Indian restaurant I would ever eat at in Cirencester
