Sultan in Cardiff

NB: This restaurant is now called Dubai Nights. I do not know whether it is the same ownership/management/staff as Sultan, the previous business's name, but at least the business now has a very good council hygiene rating.

He comido aquí varias veces este año. El menú es bastante extenso y con precios moderados. Las raciones son generosas y el personal muy amable y servicial. Nadie tiene prisa mientras estás comiendo y el lugar es limpio y ordenado.

Absolutamente vergonzoso. Pedí unos camarones de tigre y en lugar de eso comí un poco de esponja artificial. Cuando llamamos para quejarnos, seguían en desacuerdo con nosotros, aunque pedimos el mismo pescado antes y nos comimos gambas realmente asquerosas. Eso es lo que sucedió dos veces. recomendar

Fuimos a comer y la comida era básica. Pero más alarmante fue el de publicidad engañosa, son publicidad como una clasificación de la higiene. Sin embargo, realmente tienen una calificación de cero, pero se niegan a mostrarla.

Pedimos un plato de gambas tigre por £4. 95, lo que nos dieron era un cuenco de 5 bolas artificial de peces en forma de colas de tigre de gambas.

Somos asiduos en el Sultan y han visitado más de 10 veces. Normalmente tenemos el mismo - pollo o mixto shish y siempre es encantador. Las porciones son grandes, la carne siempre muy bien cocinados y abundante. Te dan una tortilla por persona y que también es precioso. Pregunte a probar el burghal en vez de arroz, es como un cuscús, realmente delicioso. Servicio rápido y amable, la comida genial, ¡nos encanta!

Great food. Extensive menu and very reasonably priced. The bread is superb as are the mixed mezze and shish. The spicy hummous is also excellent. The smoothies and milkshakes have to be tried also.

we had the family platter for 2 persons. The food was packed in a way that it was stil hot when I came home. The platter was gigantic so I had leftovers the day after. Good middle eastern food, fast delivery and friendly staff. ☺

Quiet when i went there;but good looking restaurant with quality furnishings and decorations.Very good service and the food came promptly.5 star hygiene rating which is always good to see.If i have a critiscism,the meat is less tender and the menu choice more limited than my no.1 grill restaurant,Lilos in City road.

Great food at sultans- our local favourite Great for family. Staff look after you and the management always happy to greet you. Our favourite middle eastern restaurant

I visit Sultan regularly and am always extremely impressed with the quality and portion sizes. I've even got several friends addicted to the great food! The takeaway service is excellent too.

We here while staying in Cardiff. The food was very good and large portions as well. The price was very reasonable.

We ordered a platter which was fantastic! The lamb and chicken kebabs were stunning! Highly recommend eating here! A very well designed restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere!

First time i went to this place i loved oitm every time ive dined in the food has been delicious , the portions are good the pruce and food has been delicious. However ive had a delivery three times from this place and its been terrible ! There is a lack of management and when making complaints the staff say that theyre management and pass the blame to eachother.

Was very nice food and the service was wonderful sure we coming back soon and we will try different food

I found it quite difficult to rate this place. It's definitely not a 5 star but felt that 3 would be too harsh on the things that are good about it. It's not expensive and they serve a wide variety of non alcoholic drinks (smoothies and milk shakes with a middle eastern slant) and mojitos. The food is a bit of a mixture from quite poor (Lamb Tagine) to genuinely excellent (Lamb Arayes). My recommendation would be to stick to a variety of starters and avoid the mains (although the chicken shawarma wrap is fine if you want a takeaway). The Lamb Arayes is excellent, as is the Potato Chap (much tastier than it's description makes it sound) and I would also recommend the soujouk& halloumi (a bit dry but tasty non the less), the meatballs (authetic so the sauce might not be to all "western" tastes), and the Grilled Tiger prawns, whilst there's nothing wrong with the Halab Kubba (same as kubbe elsewhere), or the meat and cheese bouraqs, or the Battata Harra.Because the prices are so reasonable, it's probably no surprise that the lamb shanks are of poor quality - if only they'd add on an extra couple of pounds and up the quality it could be good.Unlike others on here, I've never had a problem with late delivery or missing items in the several times I've tried them for home delivery

This is one of the best places to eat authentic BBQ and middle eastern food, the qulaity is SUPER, the value for money is GREAT. 5+ stars

Nothing special but same food as other Mediterranean places offer. A bit expensive. Probably we paid a bit extra cause of the ambience.

Had several deliveries from here, but they've used up all their chances now. We've had wrong orders, dishes missing, been over charged, food over cooked, food undercooked, and on 2 occasions delivery has taken 2 hours. I wont be returning! There are far better places like this to eat in Cardiff!!!!

I visited the sultan on Wednesday just gone on my own , I was made to feel very welcome and the waiter went above and beyond for me . The meatballs and prawns were to die for ! And I cant wait to go again the food is so worth it that it didn't even bother me that they don't sell alcohol .

Had food delivered to our home from here. Everything was delicious and freshly cooked. We had to wait quite a while for delivery and there was an item missing that we had paid for but this was sorted out amicably. Would have given it a five star if not for the wait and the missing food.

Ordered the whole chicken with riceTwice was undercooked ,the bones and meat were still red And chicken meat was not very moist and quite tough to get off the boneDisappointed

Ordered chicken shish and mixed grill and a couple starters. Breads nice, salad watery but adequate. The mixed grill was big. A lot of meat, disappointingly the chicken shish in the mixed grill were lovely big chunks of well cooked chicken but the chicken shish by itself was as though they flaked a couple of pieces over a HUGE amount of bulgur. Inconsistency across the two dishes. Spicy hummus was nice. The kebbeh were mostly empty... The sausage and halloumi was very nice. There are better Arabic restaurants around.

Ordered hummus as a starter and this had a spicy kick to it and although we did not order the spicy hummus it was still good.My friend went for a chicken option and said it "wasn't bad but not quite as good as usual" (she's ordered many times from here). I had ordered the hallomi and veg but was disappointed to discover my order contained no hallomi what so ever. That being said the food was still quite good (some veg was lovely but others such as potato was undercooked). The rice and chips were pretty standard but the salad was really good! All in all I would order again from here but I would do it via telephone not 'just eat' to try and avoid any mixed up orders and would check everything is as ordered on delivery.

Visiting sultan its one of the worse place I ever been,we went for family gathering and with some friends few nights ago,the service was absolutely terrible and not empressed about anything what so ever,after the young girl came take our order she didn't have any idea how to serve us,after our starts arrived they were almost burned and test like saup,we asked to be changed but no one came back to us for any reasons, we had different type of mixture of the menu ,after 45 mints waiting the food, most of the our food and everything was over cooked ,we were very disappointed about the food and the service ,the place looks nice but the rest I gave just zero ,never go back !!!

Opens around midday and went here early evening it was practically empty Ordered marinated lamb chops and my friend ordered steak. They came with rice fries salad and bread. The chops were really lovely, rest of the meal was ok. My friend said the steak was good. We ordered 7up to drink. The bill was £21.75. Very reasonable, service was acceptable, meal came in a decent amount of time. Would go again.

had an evening meal here with family,it had been recommended,and found it excellent.A good varied menu,perfectly cooked food,a pleasant clean restaurant,and excellent service,very pleasant staff.No alcohol served here,but that didn't matter to us at all,we came for the food,and they do scrummy drinks anyway,fruit juice,smoothies etc.can recommend highly!

We had a platter for four and a few other dishes to share amongst 4adults and 4children. The food was cooked nicely, plentiful and still leftovers.Many variety of mocktails and non alcohol drinks.The total price was very reasonable, service was good.There wasn't anything to fault about on our visit. Will visit again.

Bad news and a shame to be called a "grill". Deep fried vegetables warmed up on the grill and soaking in oil and over salted. Impossible to eat. Appalling salad with cheap angry onion. Over cooked salmon. Out of 12 people voted the most edible, were chips and bread. Never again!!!

Orderd food came almost 3 hours late, they called back an hour later, then was told to make another order as it my order was unavailable.Food came almost 3 hours late the lamb kufta was burnt and the lamb tagine qas salty as they name "SULTans".Called to complain the staff as extreamly rude an didnt want to listen, after i asked for management the had lied and said that she is the "Manager"Dont go there and wate you time and money

We went here for a birthday meal , started off by finding on .arrival.that they serve alcohol, so we all had mocktails and cokes. Ordered our starters to which two were brought late as all others were finishing , then to top it off veg rolls on.One.of them.we're cooked on the outside but frozen inside , they were told that we were unhappy and the dissent back and was removed from Bill. Sevice wasn't too bad and place was clean but would not go back .

After watching rugby AT the great pub in canton we went to sultan grill house at cowbridge road East in Cardiff last night for a meal with my friends.. after we been serve by the man with great service we had mix platter and some option of grill in main menu like chicken shish and lush shawarma ..... the food and drinks was absolutely perfect and everything came out on exact time, as my dad has Italian restaurant in north wales i have seen so many waiter and waitress, BUT i was quite impressed with this guy he took our order,LIKE very friendly with great smile and making pressure to the chefs to make sure everything going out on time without taking notice from any one else ...i wish them very good luck i hope i can see them very soon for next rugby match... and i will make sure to go back there again defooooo...many regards DONNA Williams

We went out last night with all my mates for meal at sultan..firstly we had very worm welcoming by manager we assume he name was zan,after lovely smile and say hello to allMy mates he recommends us to have a options of grill witch shown in main Manue,every one chosen different type of grill and everything was absolutely great and all my mates so great full with service by his feller,how ever we had different type of cocktails and the were just amazing and test was fresh and so nice,after same man came to our table he offer us that they have coffee and Deseret a part of main Manue,we had delicious of coffees and great cappuccinos witch I never had nice coffee like that before..I recommend every one should go to this place and have great food,great service and great time at sultan..

Visiting sultan is one of the best place I ever been...I was quite nervous to take my family out for such a place never seen...as soon as I enter the place it looks a amazing ..looking the Manue so many options like all type of grill, vegetarians and see food Selections ...after very food service by manager we ordered steak and different type of wraps ..however we ordered different type of cocktails witch we're looks a mazing ...everything came out the way we wanted on exact time,after we finished our meals we had Tea on the house...I wish them very good luck hope everyone should go to this place and have a wonderful time ...xx

I went with my family last week for first time...the service was absolutely great and food was amazing...we asked for big Platte for five of us ...the man serving us with very hot welcoming and a great consumer service...we had amazing meal and they mad of loads of meat with massive portions...I recommend every one should go this place because every thing are good and the atmosphere just amazing.

I had the steak medium but it turned to be medium well, this made the steak tough. The service was slow, staff were not seen at all times, this meant that we had to go up and ask for help

I had been a regular customer here; however, going forward i will not be using this restaurant again, I find the attitude of the staff unacceptable, I was told to hurry up with my order as I tried to place an order over the phone.The food has always been average, an better middle eastern cuisine can be found else where!

Had to share it between msnagers owners luckman and salah too when really I wanted to giv it to young girl I was gonna leave a 20 pound tip but girl said she would get 1 pound out of it im so disgusted food was burnt juice had sugar added and extra water what a joke and she said there all on cash in hand and no taxes being paid close them down asap as ive called the tax man not fair on us who pay tax please avoid and lilos same owners and lilo grill house

Lovely Arabic food. So tasty, had lamb shish and was so yummy. So full I now can't move! Will definitely be back

The food at Sultan is really really good, huge portions of really tasty food and the prices are very reasonable. The restaurant looks lovely and modern and has a very relaxing atmosphere. Leah was our waitress and she was really nice and helpful, nothing was too much trouble :)We have also order a delivery from Sultan and the food and price were great too and fast service. Canton was missing a really good grill house, now we have one :)

Second time at Sultans Grill House, first time I went with my friends and really likes it so decided to take the family this time and we all had a very good time there. Place is nice and clean. Service was fast and friendly. Food was delicious and cooked perfectly.

Let me start this review by emphasising the food was REALLY good. This made the night bearable! The food was tasty and the mock tails amazing. I don't drink so I liked the fact I didn't feel like the odd one out because the place doesn't serve alcohol. We had 10 in our party and I do wonder if that was just a bit too many for the staff to handle. Every course we ordered had someone's meal or drink missing, the staff didn't seem to know what they were bringing us, and one member of staff scowled at me for asking her for the water wed ordered 20 minutes ago. I will stress again the food was great (even if the staff didn't know what it was) and we didn't complain about the one staff because we wanted them to keep their job but I wouldn't go back again!

No one its never busy. Food was pretty much overcooked. Asked three steaks to be cooked medium came as overcooked steak chewy as you know what. Staff don't how to cook. They need Gordan Ramsay to show them how's it is and not done. DONT BOTHER GOING TO SULTANS WASTE OF MONEY.

I was told about this place and thought i would try it.Firstly it is a very good size restaurant with lots of seating and a private area if you want to take your family that wears hijab.the seating was comfortable and good size tables. There is a large menu with many many dishes and they even do mocktails. i ordered the stake and my wife ordered the boneless chicken.Now due to the fact that i have traveled the world and eat at many restaurants I Know that UK is one of the worst places to have stake because here they dont understand how to tenderise the stake or age the meat. I am talking about halal places. so knowing this i wasn't expecting anything amazing. So when the stake came it looked nice with sauce and salad on the plate. My expectations were met as again no halal restaurant that i have been knows how to cook a good steak. The boneless chicken on the other hand was very nice and beautifully served.I would order that again. the mocktails were ok and better than others i have tried.the price was reasonable but most of all the service was good.i would recommend everyone to try it. i would defiantly go again.

Horrible food and rubbish service couldn't even get a milkshake right! Had better service in Mc Donald's.smelly meat on a mixed grill and undercooked raw rice.lovely building and interior but that's no good when they can't even cookeat or make a drink properly also spent The Nite with sickness and Dioreaha

After many friends had eaten at this place was very much looking forward to taking out my family to eat... The decor and restaurant looked well presented and clean..we ordered 2 ice cream milkshakes which disappointed as i had no hint of vanilla n tasted like blended ice..for the main dish 2 mix shish comes with rice and chips..also wings with rice and chips...when it all arrived wings were burnt and hardly any taste.. Rice seemed hard like it was undercooked.. Lastly most of the chicken and lamb we tried to eat was mostly carefully removed or shoved straight into the napkins provided... Service was non existant so very very disapointed never again!

1st time at Sultan and wasn't disappointed at all. Food was great with friendly and warm welcoming staff. Went with my friends and we had so much fun.

I ordered 2 classic cheese burgers wild west original 8oz finesse prime beef burger topped with cheese and got a, well, what looked like a Mc Donalds size beef burger and the baps didnt fit the burger. I was gutted about this as I was expecting it to be like a harvester burger. The beef burger was very thin and small.

Never left a review but this place deserves one. Called in the sultan grill house for a takeaway after noticing walking past one day and was note dissapointed. I am a lover of bbq'd meats and the sultan grill is up there with the best I've tried. Me and my brother both had a mix grill (chicken shish, lamb shish and lamb kofte) the portion size was huge great value for money, came on a bed of rice which had a great taste and enjoyable on its own, you also get the option to have chips. It came with a full tray of salad and a massive naan then you get to choose your sauces. The whole meal had no grease you sometimes get with a takeaway and the bbq flavour on the meat was outstanding. Some of the best lamb and chicken shish ive had and the kofte was the best. Not in cardiff often but cannot wait to come back. Restaurant looked beautiful aswel if you fancy a sit in meal and now i have tried will be returning for a family platter next.

Visited on two occasions. First time was okay - average what you would expect in these places in Cardiff which was okay nothing to impress ones appetite. The second time decided to get a takeaway - this was incredibly poor! Waited 45 minutes and the place was empty! I actually decided to complained because of the wait which simply could not be explained. Then when I arrived home discovered they had in fact got the order wrong but given the wait distance to take it back decided to eat it - was not tasty below average very disappointed.

Lovely decor and ambience, was a tad cold though but this could be because we were the first in at bang on 12 noon! Plenty of choice on the menu but decided to play it safe by having the sultan mazza which is a selection of hummus and tzatziki served with naan bread and a mixed shish kebab grill for main, the wife opting for the chicken shish.....not disappointed at all, the starter was great especially the chilli hummus and the main was cooked lovely with meat plentiful and served with salad, rice, chips and another naan bread which was used to finish off the hummus.Decided to try a take out on another occasion and had this delivered.....arrived within 40 minutes and in all fairness there was no loss of quality except the mazza had slid around the carton and was mixed up a little.........maybe best to put in separate smaller cartons for takeout?Will definitely go back and try other items on the menu which is quite expansive and would definitely recommend even if your not a fan of this type of food!!They don't serve alcohol, which to be honest is not really a problem if the food is of good quality.........didn't try a smoothie/cocktail instead opting for water but the drinks menu is just as expansive as the food menu.....will try something on our next visit.

Great chargrilled chicken and lamb. Delicious fresh bread and dips (Hommous, Tsatziki etc). Fantastic fresh juices and smoothies. A feast worth trying!!

This is quite a unique concept that I have found in quite a few places in the Western world ! A complete Non-Alcoholic restaurant but seemed more enjoyable with such a fabulous FreshJuice Bar ... with a wide selection of exotic mocktails and smoothies !You have to sample the Grilled Sea Bass ... exquisite ... and don't spoil it with the fries ... just get plain rice to go with it ! The prawn starter is good too !! for a complete seafood fiesta ...also on menu a wide array of Arabic grill ... like lamb, chicken kebabs etc ...A must visit to sample the unique fare at least once ... and I bet you'll frequent the place ...The Juice Bar will most certainly De-Tox you !!
