Costa Coffee - St Davids Centre in Cardiff

As chains go, Costa Coffee isn't too bad (great choc brownies!) but they need hot chocolate-making lessons at this particular branch. My drink was pathetically weak and, ironically, not half as nice as the hot chocolate I later bought from one of their Costa Express dispensing machines - in Asda. The only time ever I've ever praised a hot drinks machine. Come on Costa! Make all the drinks properly.

Fayre is fine as are the staff, plenty of seating indoor and outside but lacks character to tell the truth and with so much competition around it's probably only brand loyalty that's going for it. Saying that, no negatives about the experience.

Costa coffee masterpiece… NOT Visited Sunday. Ordered a ham and cheese toasted and a large latte with whipped cream. Waited patiently at the collection point to be told after, 3 enquiries my coffee was on the end. When I pointed out there was no whipped cream, the lady put her hand through the gap and squirted three lines of cream, that proceeded to melt and run into the saucer. The toastie was cold and the melted cheese had solidified. When I attempted to complain, the sever walked back to the till. Awful experience!!

We came here 4pm Saturday Sunday 9th January And the blond tall male staff was extremely rude & not family friendly as we have small kids It’s shame we will be back as we like here

What can you say...it's never going to compete with the good independent cafés in Cardiff but it is not the worst coffee shop in town.....the tea was good, that one thing they do right....the coffee was good but could have been hotter.... my fault I forgot to ask for hot coffee.... The store was clean, the staff were on the ball...

The inside of the store was very clean and had quick service. unfortunately the seats outside the front had a few trays that needed to be cleared.

So I was back in the capital (of Wales) with the other half. She was going shopping, I was off to the gym. Sadly the weather was not in our favour so we decided to pop into St David’s for a quick coffee before going our separate ways. We chose Costa, when we arrived it was rather busy, no seating available in store so we sat in the small seating area to the front of the store. I went into order and despite how busy it was I was served swiftly with a welcoming smile by Joshua. The store was very noisy and the Joshua clearly saw I had hearing aids and made a conscious effort to speak up so that I could hear him, but not in a condescending manner, he also confirmed my order as well. Our drinks were made extremely quickly, this team was operating like a well oiled machine. On visiting the toilet, I found it to be rather dirty with urine and pubic hair on the seat, toilet paper all over the floor and a discarded face mask as well. The toilet was however, odour free. If the toilet would have been clean then it would have been a four star review, but due to the state of the toilet sadly this has reduced my review to an average three stars.

Visited at about 9:15. Very busy ! Most tables outside and inside occupied by take out orders. Closed tables were also occupied and therefore social distancing not always possible. People jumping the queue to occupy tables. Moving used trays to closed tables. These tables then being occupied by others as they think they are open tables. Table cleaning not being done. Basically an insecure covid Costa.Informed the staff behind the counter - not their problem apparently. This has not been my experience in other Costa's just this one ! Will not be returning !

Called in during a shopping trip to the fity. Covid precautions well executed and as usual this store has the most friendly staff in the UK

Visited this place for coffee and cake on a weekend in Cardiff. One thing this shop has is very pleasant attentive staff always a pleasure to visit.

Staff friendly always busy seating inside fills up quickly outside seating always seems to have a few seats available. Latte and hot chocolate one of the nicest.Snacks hot and tasty.

Such lovely staff here in costa happy and always smiling...even when it was a chock a block with customers and extremely busy. Thank you to the lovely Molly and Damian who made my hubby an extra large Christmas hot chocolate, you certainly made his day.. credit to costa both of you . 🙂 I would also like to say thank you to the young man who, when he brought our food to the table, wiped it down first we didnt even have to ask him .. sorry i didnt get your name.👍fabulous customer service 🙂 We will definitely come back.

Disgraceful customer service. Ordered a panini and a coffee as I had to take an important call, member of staff charged me £6.50. When I quizzed this he said, ‘you never made it clear you wanted a meal deal, you have to add crisps and it would of been £4.95!’ Advised I wasn’t aware of this and he also didn’t mention it to me when making the purchase he said that’s the store policy. Not his fault i didn't read the small print. Asked for a refund so I could then purchase the same with crisps and have it at £1.55 cheaper and he said no way, no refunds. Worse customer service I've ever had! Rip off merchants. Avoid. Mentioned it to a girl as I was leaving and she apologized, still no refund or crisps and she agreed he should of told me about adding the crisps to save myself £1.55! The rude staff member had blonde hair and he had glasses. Please give him training in customer service, he really needs it.

Staff in this shop must rank with the best in any Costa shop I have visited throughout the country always pleasant and helpful.

On a recent visit to cardiff frequented this cafe 4 times and on each occasion was super-impressed by the staff. I drink decaff coffee and always get a drop of hot water on the side as I like to dilute the coffee a bit. On each occasion this request wàs happily granted and the decaff was really good. Nice relaxing place to sit and they do some very good combo deals for 5 quid. Will be back!

Upon arrival, I was greeted by a lack lustre air conditioning system, to add to my despise I was given an incorrect order. I suggest people visiting the area of Cardiff to stay well clear of this costa. I certainly will never be visiting again.

Friendly staff, even when busy they were all smiley and helpful. Clean toilets too. Cake and coffee were their usual thumbs up.

By far the best costa I go too, such a lovely team who always have a smile on their faces. Keep being you it’s working!!!💕💕💕

Gran lugar pequeño y no tan ocupado como muchos de los otros, tan bueno para conseguir un asiento.Los cafés y el chocolate caliente eran excelentes. Good place to come for a coffee, fresh and clean. Very welcoming customer service. Good quality americano. Tables clean.

Quick service was great and staff friendly. Sauce sachet given expired dec 2017 which waiter told me must be a misprint.... But then changed it for in date one. Bacon was scarce in my roll but filled a gap. Sister wasn't impressed with her cheese toastie. Sorry but not impressive today

I regularly visit costa coffee and love the branch in Leckwith but this store is terrible. Two staff serving who really didn’t care about the long queue. They were friendly enough but got my order wrong and when I did get my drinks there was so much foam in our cups we had half a cup of luke warm coffee. Not nice at all in fact I left mine.

disappointed with visit here but not really surprised, its just the costa brand that i dont get on with, staff were friendly and the place itself was nice enough, just the coffee never improves.

Food ok but the place desperately needs cleaning. Third cup before I got a clean one, filthy toilets, no toilet roll, rude table staff. Won't be visiting again.

If you like Costa, you will like this cafe. The coffee and snacks are great and the staff at this particular branch are very friendly.

Called in for a quick coffee at lunchtime on a shopping trip. Barista was helpful and chatty. Service was very good as was the coffee.

We had lattes and an assortment of cakes on a recent visit to the centre. Service was good, plenty of choices, will visit again

I called here with friends. It's great to see that Costa have more dairy free choice now. I tried the jam oaty bake for the first time. Whilst it wouldn't be my first choice if I wasn't dairy free it was nice to be able to have a cake whilst meeting up with friends. The staff in this store have always provided great service and the service when I was here in March was no difference. I wouldn't hesitate to call here again when in the area.

Standard costa with all the usual on offer. Situated at the entrance to St David's mall with seating outside. It's directly opposite the tourist information centre so a good place to start a city break - leaflets and strong coffee. Only problem we had was for some reason the staff wanted to charge 10p for "extra" butter! Two slices of toast with two butters but 20p for two extra butters - strange. Maybe we caught them on a bad day as we haven't experienced that before. Anyway, generally a good spot to take a break.

Fast service. Light delicious halloumi sandwich. Panini with mozzarella was just O.K . Tasty mocha. Latte was ok but warm not hot. I recommend the halloumi sandwich

On a day out with my daughter stopped by this Costa. For some reason Cardiff seems to have starbucks everywhere. No q which was nice. Charging mobile plugs further towards the back if you need them.

Costa is clean and tidy and they are always cleaning tidys to make sure that customers can site down. There is always a few people behind the counter serving as well

Its a real shame that there is lots of coffee options but not tea Where is the assam tea? Diffrent blends?

I called here with a family member in September whilst shopping in Cardiff. Even though it was busy the service was great and the barista was very helpful about different allergens. I would definitely call here again.

I visited this branch on a very busy afternoon whilst shopping in Cardiff, I ordered a chocolate Frape to takeaway with the intention of drinking it on my way back to West Wales.

It's a 'Costa', only in a busy shopping centre where food is overpriced (and in my case turned up burnt) and a small coffee ended up being super large!. Sorry but not worth the costa!!!

I thought I was a 'Costa girl", but not since I visited this branch of Costas, I have always loved the coffee, I have always been a dedicated Costas drinker. This branch don't know how to make coffee, I bought an 'Americano', returned it and told the barista who made it, that it wasn't up to standard, she didn't apologize, and argued the point, 2nd attempt was warm, 3rd attempt was not good. 4th attempt on a different day was also awful. Another occasion I bought a food item and when I asked for a cup of hot water, was told that I couldn't have one, for 'health and safety' reasons, whaaaaaaat??????????

Not very clean around the seating area. It was early in the day so no excuse. The toilet was really dirty, again no excuse. The toilet was locked and we had to get a code from the counter to unlock it, so it was only the customers using it so why was it so dirty?

Very busy but plenty of staff. Didn't have to wait too long to be served. Friendly staff. Food arrived hot.

They are all the same, good standard. Service was fast, it was nice to sit out in the mall. The staff worked hard, table cleared away ASAP. Cakes looked inviting, so for a quick break from shopping is does the job. I would go again. Mike

I love costa and this is the first time i have been disappointed with the staff. I would not go back again even if it meant going without a coffee. Staff are rude and unhelpful. Maybe head office should give them a customer service talk and while they are at it explain how to clear a table.

Called in for a coffee to go. One person in front in queue ordering x2 drinks. Took over 5 minutes to make my drink (mocha latte) place was a mess, staff completely oblivious to customers & service terrible. Topped off by drink being made in a mug (should have been take out) - considering the amount of coffee shops in Cardiff I wouldn't bother going here - stick to Starbucks

Lack of manners by staff, people getting served ahead of you to shorten the cue. Coffee tastes like its getting weaker.

Having just spent 5 days in the USA on holiday and having eaten out every day , you soon realise when you come back home what's missing in our country.

This Costa needs a revamp, both in terms of its decor and its staff training. The venue has a grubby feel to it and the paintwork etc is damaged/marked. The barista that 'made' my Americano handled my mug all around the rim, prior to setting it down and handled my decaf bag, rather than using tongs or the wrapper. Management needs to take a good look at this outlet.

Popped in for lunch, had a toasted ham and parmasan cheese toastie cappuccino large great food and coffee friendly service

3 of us popped in one afternoon for a snack. Ideally located centrally by St.David's Centre. Not overly spacious considering it's in the centre of the capital and busy. We looked for a table indoors, found one and had to clean up after the previous customers. Not tidy generally and possibly lacking staff? My snack was nice but very expensive too.

As Costa Coffee goes this outlet is exactly like all the others. The coffee is the same and the available food is the same. What is different is that there is a seating area out in the mall which is nice.

Having a day out in Cardiff and needed to rest the aching trotters. Costa was busy being a Saturday morning, but the staff worked really fast to get everyone served. Great coffee and toast £4, the Saturday papers, and smiley staff. Can't fault it. Well done Costa.

Have been going here a lot as only live 20 minutes away so when I get to city centre I always head here first me and a good friend like to chill with a coffee before we start our day. Unfortunately on Thursday we ordered 2 teacakes as well as coffee to start. We drank our coffee and still no tea cakes we then asked a lovely young girl about our teacakes she was clearing tables and wasn't the young girl who served us. She went to the desk and 5 minutes later the girl who served us came with our teacakes we had drank our coffee and I asked did you forget us see said no. She didn't apologise for delay in time and didn't say anything just put our tea cakes down I said we have drank our coffee she just walked away .really not happy with service on this occasion and an apology for delay would have been ok .

Always prefer a coffee from Costa's over other places, this place in the heart of St Davids 2 is always busy. Service is excellent, even though it's busy, the staff are always friendly and serve you pretty quickly. Can never fault this place, if just for the efficient service.

This is a place where you are always sure of receiving great service, great food, and of course great coffee. The ideal place to sit and unwind after a hard days shopping.

Disappointed that on sperate occassions we visited there were no gluten free sandwich/wrap availability. Either Gluten Free option is very popular or Costa Coffee don't supply enough quantity. Good coffee.

This coffee house is in the middle of an extremely busy shopping arcade and is, therefore, constantly busy. The service was quick, efficient and friendly. Will definitely visit again. My only complaint is the lack of hooks in the toilet.

Nous n'avons pas trouvé le cappuccino très bon, pas assez crémeux, je me demande même s'il nous ont mis du café fort ou simplement du sirop de café lors de la préparation. Nous avons été déçu.

Costa is the place to unwind after a good shop. The weather was awful but inside it was lovely and welcoming. The staff were very good as was the coffee and cakes. I always come here when in Cardiff

This outlet is well situated within the centre, has indoor and outdoor seating within the internal walkway. It is very popular and is well kept and within the usual price range for Costa.

As Christmas is coming, the crowds were big and there was a bit of a wait but that's to be expected. The staff were really nice considering the attitude of some of the customers, they just kept smiling. Decent coffee for the price and if you haven't got the kids with you it's worth popping in just to get away from all the crazy shoppers for a bit!

Having just arrived in Cardiff we popped in for a coffee, it was fairly busy but there were a few free tables. We were served promply and the coffee was good.

The drinks we ordered were absolutely fine and service acceptable but there were no clean tables available, many available but all needed to be cleared and cleaned so as long as you dont mind doing it yourself then it's perfectly fine!

I am a regular costa coffee drinker at home and it was great to come to another splendid coffee shop and sample to lovely cakes prior to the game

This was the costa on the entrance to st davids centre (not the on inside) Not up to the usual Costa standard, lack of knowledge of staff and dirty tables left a less than favourable memory.. no napkins and for some reason really noisy.
