The hotel and the team are lovely so I would recommend staying here but if you're a vegetarian eat somewhere else. That's why I have given a 2 star rating. I know from previous experience that vegetarian food is nowhere on the priority list of any Village hotel I have been to previously but my recent stay hit an all time low for extremely poor veggie food. The burger was listed as a beetroot burger with salad and fries and what I was served was uncooked rice covered in, what looked like, beetroot paste and squashed together in the shape of a pattie. It was inedible as the rice wasn't even remotely cooked so I took it back and asked for a refund. The team were very apologetic. It wasn't their fault so I wasn't going to have a go at them. They offered to cook me another one but I declined as having the same option again was a definite no. One of the service team said she was vegetarian also and advised that they had a soya based veggie burger available so I asked why that wasn't on the menu. She didn't know. As it was after 8pm by then I decided on a refund as the best and safest option. Vegetarian food is not a new concept in 2024 but to be served something this bad was a shock. The fact that a chef thought that was acceptable as a vegetarian burger is very concerning.

So myself and husband are regulars to the gym! We pay a lot each month but there's a few aspects that need to be improved, we were told the gym opens at 5am, it is very rarely open before 5:10.....the same with the pool, often stood round waiting until after 6am before the pool and changing rooms get opened! The equipment is quite old and rusty! It is however clean and tidy! Hopefully things start to open on time soon, we pay enough each month and on a year's contract!

No Aircon and lack of sound proofing in the room could hear other guests going to toilet. There was a fan in the room but this wasn't of any use. I'm currently a member at the leisure club, staff unprofessional just do things to your membership without notifying you, staff on leisure reception never answer the phone, showers on way out of changing rooms before entering the pool constantly out of order or are freezing cold, showers on pool side contaminated with rust because wrong one's were installed when had the refurbishment aswell as the mixer valve faulty as it's either boiling hot or freezing cold but management said have ordered new knobs which is not going to solve the issue, jets in pool never seem to work properly, number of young staff on pool side on their phone's irresponsible, nothing like it once was which is a real shame.

This is always a busy place, surprisingly as it is a chain hotel near a busy motorway roundabout, it is popular with people from the nearby villages of whitchurch and tongwynlas who come here to watch sports on the TV's and enjoy excellent drinks deals . With that in mind, we tend not to sit in the bar to eat or drink, rather we order there and sit in the hotel lobby area, especially as we have children with us. The bar food selection is quite extensive for a bar and service is swift. When we stay at the village hotel we usually eat here at least once and it's a handy central place for family to come to enjoy a night out.

I switched on the TV to find only a few channels, not even freeview. When I called to say there was a problem with the TV I was told that there was a problem with the wiring over the last week and that it affected most of the hotel. Engineers on site to fix. After a quick look on trip adviser I discovered this was a ongoing problem from back in 2014 and that the guy on reception was not telling the truthConfronted the duty manager and soon got upgraded to a upper deck room. However, when I was told the price, I actually gasped and said "HOW MUCH?" When we examined the order, I realised that my extra portion of onion rings actually cost £7:50 so I asked for them to be removed from the order. Other things that were just plain wrong:- Loud music being played....and a style of music totally inappropriate to the average ages of the clientele. (Actually, the place was almost empty...strange for Sunday lunchtime.) There were children running around the restaurant as if it were a playground. Nobody asked them to stop. Despite all the plus points the food lets this venue down and it shouldn't, they could do much, much better. I like the venue, the ease of getting to it, parking and how it feels when you are there (i.e. a genuine gentle buzz) but the food is no better than poor, perhaps a 3/10. You'd assume the kitchen to be the same as the hotels main kitchen and if so, the quality of output should be better. I lifted the top of the bun to have a look and inside was a skinny burnt burger, which was strangely cut in half, it was as dry and hard as you could possibly imagine. I tried one bite and trouble chewing it! There were two pieces of red onion, one was a ring from the skin and was totally inedible. The slice of tomatoe and piece of lettuce actually looked ok but I'd gone off the whole thing by then. Chips were nice and hot but tasted of over used oil. Considered mentioning it to the waiting staff, but he was impossible to attract. And quite frankly after tasting the ghastly wine I had with the even more ghastly burger I just wanted to get out of there !! Overpriced bar meals would have been acceptable if the portions matched the descriptions and were not served in a tin bowl, which a two year old could have been pleased to eat out of but left us with rumbling tummies. Also, when the waiter was approached he simply shrugged, which would have been quaint in France but did not go down well in Cardiff. Look, this is a funny place. It isn't a pub, because its not full of blathering drunken idiots. Oh, and because it's too open-plan. It is like an extension of the hotel lobby/foyer, which is by its nature, a place of semi-hushed tones and reserved behaviour (see: this is not a pub) and other extensions of the foyer are: the V-something restaurant, the Starbucks coffee shop (which isn't a Starbucks "coffee shop" because it isn't full of pseuds, and it's too open plan. Also, the 'bucks and the pub share a long veranda/promenade/patio/beer pavement. So, all these things blend into one another. Only at the midway point of the pub and of the retaurant, do these two places start to detach from the foyer. So: pub atmosphere: NO. Thank the Lord. What it is, is an airport lounge bar (with no airport, which is good if you're not looking to travel far). As such, the staff have a variety of non-pub duties and are often seen wandering around from place to place. Depending on the person, this is a good thing: people aren't tied to one post and hence prone to rut-ism. The pair I met on the bar were thus: a muscular, glowing young chap with the air of being in charge, and a twinkling slender young lady side-kick. While both effervescent, the girl gave the impression she would rather be quiet than risk offending. The young rugby star however, had an assured readiness with him: I had a meaningful conversation with him about the nature of addiction and pride in the "instant gratification" society of today, which began with a comment about the price of a can of RedBull, and ended quite comfortably with "It's all Biblical!".The food. Mine was a club sandwich, which was very pleasant, and exactly what a club sandwich should be. The gorgeous young lady I was with - Lucy - is afraid of all meat but chicken. She is a very innocent, delicate thing, and her default mode of "please protect me" in strange, cosmopolitan environments (and our 11 year age gap) has prompted her to be mistaken for my daughter in the past. By a Korean Christian Evangelist in charge of a travelling choir on the streets of Abergavenny. He also mistook my sister for my wife. So, in places like these, she goes demure and submissive and we tend to isolate ourselves socially in a romanitco kinda way. It's amusing. And, as is the nature of airport lounge bars, this is a place you can blend in and no one bothers you. The food was good. (Lucy had rice with chicken shish kebab, which was very pleasant indeed). The people were nice (but i think the chef assistant who appeared at one point was scared of Rugby Star. And no drunken fools. But that was in the middle of the day. Can't vouch for the hordes of drunken businessmen looking for a quick hook up who might congregate there at night time. Laptop heaven. We enjoyed (or failed to be disappointed by), the place so much on our arrival at the hotel, that we went back to have lunch again at departure the next day. We sat in the sun on the Loooooong balcony/veranda/pier/boardwalk/paved patio. It was calm, quiet, sunny. The non-alcoholic drinks (we don't touch booze - I'll tell you all about it one day) are limited in choice at the bar, as at the restaurant in the hotel, so we had some iced water, and i walked round the other end of the veranda and grabbed a £600 iced coconut latteccinofrap from $tarbuck$ (cliched use of the dollar sign, i know), which was quite delightful. This time, following some exquisite garlic flatbread in the restaurant the night before, I had the Victory special flatbread pizza. It comes out on a plank with a pizza cutter reminiscent of a discus on a stick. Very happy with it, with one problem: I hadn't noticed it was touted with BBQ sauce. For me, with the "all artisan-y" flatbread, and the plank and discus, the BBQ was a bit too plebby, a bit too KFC. It was made with bbq sauce instead of pizza sauce, you see, so it was like eating a fine pizza that someone's kids had got to with the sugary, chemically squirty sauce. It didn't quite manage to spoil the pizza, but i was a little downhearted. Lucy had a jacket potato with salad (curse you, weightwatchers!) which she claims to have enjoyed very much.....Hahahahaha.

Dull and boring - far to dark an dun inviting. Had bar meals and these were not enjoyable at all. Upgrade in made required even though it states they have just done that. I can only guess what it was like before.Disappointing visit

Have eaten here a few times but not for a while so had a look on trip advisor just to get up to date review of the place. Some of the reviews weren't so good so was a bit worried about visiting again but thought I would give it a try with the kids as its easy to get to, plenty of parking and food kids will eat. VERY GLAD I went there. Food was really tasty pub food, staff were really polite and friendly, food was plentiful and very good value for money. Would definately recommend it and will definately be going back next time I'm in the area.

I stayed at The Village Hotel whilst travelling and ate in the Victory Bar every evening. The first evening I ordered a bacon and cheese burger which was great and hit the spot, what you expect from pub food! The second evening I ordered just 2 starters to share between 3 of us, Nachos and cheese fries and both were massive portions!! Taste was good too! My last night I ordered the steak which was disappointing it was very fatty and not cooked as ordered. But I ate around the fat and it still tasted nice, also ordered chocolate fudge cake which again is what you expect from a pub... not spectacular but edible and hits the spot. The service we received was great from the 2 guys behind the bar, always friendly and asking us if we needed anything. Would visit again, but only If I was staying in the hotel.

Have been to this pub a couple of times for food and it is very hit and miss, have been and the food and service have been great, then the last two times we have been it has not been so great - food has been less than expected (food not as advertised and service very slow). Sadly will probably not be going again as I have heard other people have had similar experiences

As the restaurant from the hotel was quite bad I decided to try the pub to see if it was any better.I got nachos as a starter. The portion was huge with loads of beef and cheese. I really liked them and it put me in a very good mood for the main course.I ordered baby back ribs. They looked amazing. The portion was big and the glazing looked perfect. However disappointment came with the 1st bite. Bland. No favour whatsoever. It seems they cook the ribs as they get them from the butchers. No salt added and straight to the oven. A few minutes serving them to a client they add the glazing. The result is a disgusting dish!!!!!!

What can I say - read the reviews and decided to give it the benefit of the doubt - bad move! Food is tasteless; club sandwich was supposed to have egg, which turned out to be something similar to egg mayonnaise, but couldn't quite be sure. Chicken bites were rubbery. Also, got charged for double the amount of drinks that we had. Extremely expensive for what we had.Sticky table didn't help either.

We were members of their fitness club for two months and I can tell you that this is a truly disgusting place with disgusting food! Their restaurante is better but it is often closed. The food in the pub is so disgusting my stomach turns when I think about it, traumatizing! The ribs are dry like cardboard and have no taste other than a blub of sauce on the top, the mac cheese has an odd taste, the waffle with caramelized banana was so awful I am still traumatized. All in all, not even the 10% discount would convince me to go back there again and the same thing say many other members! Anyway, our membership is ending and... never again!

If you have to stay at this hotel can I recommend the tesco express in Whitchurch. They can serve food and drink whereas the sad victory pub in the village hotel has the majority of tables covered in the detritus of the previous guests and can't take good orders for " 45 minutes love " plus u can't even get basic drinks . Comfy bed for the night fine anything else forget it

We visited the village today and we were told to leave our children outside the swimming pool because it was 'adult swimming time' what a ludicrously stupid reason.

Went as a party of six and late for lunch so about 2.30. Told to order at the bar so we did and ordered drinks also. Waitress at the bar said they would put two tables together to make a six.Went into the restaurant to be "confronted" by a large man in charge who told us they were shut and preparing for evening meals. We explained that tables were being put together for us and he pointed to them, told us someone else had taken them and seemed to think that was the end of the matter. When we told him we had ordered food at the bar you could see that he registered that if he sent us away then the food would be wasted so he showed us to - incredibly - a table set for six.Food was average. The mushy peas were not mushy but a solid mass in a small dish so I made a sand castle out of them on my plate.Niceish surroundings, a brilliant spot to meet people, geographically but average food and the welcoming grin gets a nil points from me.Would not recommend this to my friends.

Had dinner there with my wife on a Saturday evening. Pub was noisy with party goers but it didn't put me off however, what did put me off was how dark it was. The menu was rather limited and I thought the food was quite expensive. We ordered a double stack burger and a scampi. Food was just okay and when you pay over 10 pounds for a burger, you want something that is good but sadly it was just average. I have had better food in a brewers fayre at a much reduced cost. The bill for 2 mains and 2 drinks was 28 pounds. On the positive side, the staff seemed friendly enough but they need to improve their service standards though, no meal check back and our empty plates sat on our table for ages.Sorry but won't be rushing back.

A great little pub within the hotel. Friendly staff and delicious food, served quickly. It was pretty busy when we were there and we had a job to find a table last night. They have daily offers which you can't fail to miss, given all the promotional material dotted about the place.

NB: This restaurant is now called Dubai Nights. I do not know whether it is the same ownership/management/staff as Sultan, the previous business's name, but at least the business now has a very good council hygiene rating.

Everything feshly made to order, very busy at lunchtime with a queue but this speaks for itself. They load the sandwiches and baquettes as much as possible, so good portions

This seems to be shut , what a shame was really looking forward to eating here. Other catering at St Fagans not the same and is like catering anywhere

This is what "fresh to order" looks like. If you can't cook chips, or send them in an edible fashion, perhaps a chip shop isn't for you? These chips were as dry as a rotting floorboard. The owner will no doubt play the denial game and wash off any responsibility, but the truth of the matter is that elephants have great memories - and so do your customers.
