Use to be a fabulous venue to go to. Jackie and the staff were great. The owners have pushed them all out and now, no atmosphere at all. Staff don't have the same customer service and genuine appeal any more. It seems they have the staff wearing baseball caps and whatever they like. Use to be a great destination with great vibe, such a shame, its like it is now.

I've been going here for years until now.....it used to be a highlight of my visit to the WMC being a theatre bar. Loved hearing theatre tunes and it being very unique to my theatre visit.....it has new staff , no musical songs, sky news on the Tele. The whole vibe doesn't feel the same as it used to. Such a shame seeing as it is in one of best theatres in Wales. If you are looking for a theatrical experience this isn't it....

Had pre theatre drinks in Bar One (inside the WMC). Great atmosphere inside Bar One with loads of previous Theatre show posters adorning the walls, great advertising for present & past theatre shows. There are cocktails themed for the show on at the WMC theatre thereby adding to the pre show build up. In direct contrast the WMC does not display or actively promote what is scheduled to be shown in the theatre. Nor does it sell food (you have to go to the outlets in Cardiff Bay). They do sell alcohol with long lines of punters in the soleless airport lounge. The next day we had lunch at Bar One, great jacket potato at a competitive price. We would recommend Bar One as the place to be to soak up the pre show buzz & enjoyment.

I ordered a double espresso with hot milk on the side. The coffee was presented in a small paper cup. When I asked for a china cup the assistant said that "they were going to be busy" and begrudgingly got a very cold cup and poured the coffee in. At this time there were only two other occupied tables. This was very poor service from a charmless person. I am not a tourist, I'm a Cardiff resident and a potential regular customer but not after this poor showing.

I’ve always been a fan of this independently-owned bar located near the side entrance of Wales Millennium Centre. (By the way, this bar is called One, and not Bar One.) This easy, friendly - but under-advertised venue, is open pre/interval/post show for cocktails, beers and hot beverages (they do a fantastic hot chocolate!) with a selection of quality cakes (including gluten-free!). They are hoping to introduce more food (Panini‘s, jacket potatoes etc) as soon as possible. The bar is decorated with large photos from the shows and plays a selection of enjoyable non-stop musical theatre songs. I’m always amazed at how underused this bar is after huge sell-out shows. I can only guess that people are led to believe that the place is closed post-show, because the Millennium Centre broadcasts a misleading announcement - about its OWN bars - that “All bars are now closed”. This can be easily rectified by the bar erecting a few noticeable, illuminated signs that highlight that the bar is fully open after the show.

Food took forever to arrive and was then wrong and had to be refunded. I think it was the managers son, just wanted to argue about why they’d made a mistake ‘we’re busy’! I pointed out it was pre-theatre and being based in the WMC, it shouldn’t be a surprise. The manager himself is very miserable all the time and doesn’t seem to enjoy having a customer facing job at all. I won’t try and eat there again but we still go for drinks for the location and because it is often quiet when other places are heaving. That said, it is expensive at £4.80 a pint so may have a rethink and find somewhere else.

We had just finished visiting the Welsh Assembly and wanted something reasonably light for lunch, having had a large breakfast, so we thought we'd try Bar One, located just inside the Wales Millennium Centre, with seating also outside. The menu looked interesting so we settled for a Welsh Rarebit. The seating is crammed tight against each other so, even though the bar was empty we had to move chairs around in order to be able to squeeze into a table and, although the bar wasn't that busy, it took quite a while for the food to arrive; I wonder what it is like in the evening when there is a concert on? It was good, but I have had better - it could have done with being a little crisper.

After such a lovely sunny Bank Holiday Monday(28th August 2017), my Parents and I decided to take a walk around Cardiff Bay. Before leaving we decided to stop for a quick drink due to the soaring temperature outside and made our way to the Wales Millennium Centre as we were close by. Usually we stop at the Ffresh Bar but due to it being closed for the day opted for Bar One, opposite to Ffresh. Big mistake! After waiting a few minutes to be served by the bar tenders a young lady who thought that she was Tom Cruise in the film Cocktail, sun glasses sat firmly atop her head, enquired as to what we would like. After being up early for work and having work early again the next day I ordered a toffee milkshake that was advertised on the bar's cold drinks board to be told that the staff were not selling milkshakes!!! After enquiring as to why I was met with an abrupt "because it's busy!" Stunned, as there were more than ample staff around to make my drink, another member of staff informed me of a different reason to which the bar tender snapped "I'm not even going to bother with that excuse". Clearly it seems that if you are not ordering an alcoholic beverage which is more expensive in price the staff at Bar One simply do not want to help. I left the bar area not bothering to order anything else as felt that this lady insulted me by her lack of co-operation. Fuming, I sought out the Manager who told me that this 'assistant' (what a joke!) would be dealt with. On leaving I noticed that she was nowhere to be seen and that the Manager had taken over her position (probably received more complaints due to her appalling attitude) or she was out back reading up on how to treat paying customers the correct way. It seems that the staff at Bar One should have wondered over to the Coffi Co not far away as they were extremely busy but who showed manners and professionalism to members of the public, maybe they could have a lesson in customer service. I will not set one toe nail in Bar One ever again due to the poor service I received when all I needed was a simple milkshake!!

The food was overpriced, the servers weren't prepared to deal with the pre-theatre rush, the manager was so rude and we ended up getting half our food refunded because we didn't have time to eat it before the theatre and taking the other half in to the theatre wrapped in napkins. Would never go again. Go to the cafe at the other end- the servers are much nicer and more efficient. The bar was very busy when we arrived because we were there for food before a show and foolishly l thought than an hour early was ample time before the show. We had to queue for about 10 mins before we could order and it was obvious the staff hadn't been properly trained for busy times because they were all running around like headless chickens. My mother and I ordered something we thought would be quick and easy because we were concerned about time- a soup and a sandwich which weren't cheap at £6 each. I checked with the man who we ordered with that the cawl didn't have to be specially cooked and it would be quick to serve and he sarcastically replied that it was obviously ready to serve otherwise we'd be waiting 6 hours. It later turned out that man was the manager... After waiting around half an hour, my mother and I were getting really worried about the play starting so we checked with the servers about our order because the table next to us had been served their tapas even though they ordered quite a while after us. We think they had forgotten our order because he didn't come back for around 10 mins. He told us they had run out of cawl and asked us to order something else. It had taken them half an hour to even look in the pot of cawl! I spoke to the manager and told him how unhappy I was with the service and that this had basically ruined the start of our theatre experience and he didn't even seem to care. He was really patronising and tried to tell me how chronological ordering works in a restaurant... I obviously knew this and this fact didn't negate the long wait, terrible service or his rudeness. He gave us a refund for the soup because we didn't have time to eat it and I had to wrap my sandwich in napkins and eat it in the theatre. This experience really ruined part of our day out at the theatre.

We shared a pizza and 3 tapas dishes. Too much cheese on the pizza for our tastes, chunkily chopped mushrooms but not alot of veg on the topping. The tapas was mostly disappointing, squid was 5 oven cooked battered things as was the prawns. Probably prepacked like the sort of party food you get in the supermarket. A large portion of tasty hummus and a pitta bread was the third but at 11.95 for the three, I felt ripped off. Standard bar prices for drinks. Next time I would share a pizza and share one humous tapas. I know everyone is short staffed these days, it's a sign of the times, but there is know excuse for staff and management to be serving meals at tables and returning in side empty handed. At one point I presume it was the manager came out onto the front for a cigarette he had a chat with a member of staff who I presume was just starting his shift, as soon after he starting clearing tables . This took him approximately 20 minuets as there was so many tables to clear. The manager waltzed back inside empty handed. I think some staff training is required here!!!

Will go else where, unless the there is a change with what's on the platter and the quantity is dramatically increased to a level where you feel you have value for money over Bar Ones profit! Sometimes the coffee tasted like water and the bar staff was very unfriendly when explaining the situation. It's good for sitting outside on a nice sunny day with a pint of cider. Suppose not much you can do wrong then!P.s. they don't accept cards below 10 pounds spent.

Popped into "Bar One" during the interval of the WNO for a few drinks and coffees, the staff have no interest in moving customers quickly during this short period so everyone can get served also the coffee which should have been a double espresso was smaller than a single, either their coffee machine is set incorrectly or they have no idea what they are doing even after I questioned them they still had no interest

Used to love this place, always got a good welcome and the staff made an effort with Tea Lights on the tables and relaxing music.Over the last few months, the Bar feels cold and unwelcoming. The staff seem to play the music they want to listen to and not music that suits the venue. On my last visit the bar looked untidy and scruffy.

My Husband and I visited today for a cocktail in the sun while waiting for our Son who had an appointment in the Bay. We wish we hadn't . I walked into the bar which was empty and asked for two Mojitos, the young girl told me they weren't Serving cocktails as they were short staffed as someone had called in sick. I ordered a cappuccino and a glass of prosecco. The girl took so long to make the coffe a large que was forming. When she eventually made the coffee she put it on the bar with no saucer I asked for a saucer and she looked quite shocked and replied oh right you want a saucer? She then tried to charge me again for my order even though I had already paid!I took the coffee outside to my husband who told me it was stone cold. I returned the coffee to the vacant looking girl and told her it was cold her reply was, I can warm it up if you like. I told her I would like a freshly made warm coffee, she said ok hang on and continued serving the ever growing que. A rather miserable waiter asked if I wanted it warmed up or a fresh one, I replied fresh please. I don't think he was to pleased as his face was like thunder and he banged a clean saucer on the bar. The coffee was a definite improvement but an apology or a smile would have been appreciated. We visit the Bay on a regular basis and often attend shows at the Millenium. We usually eat and drink at the numerous resturants around the Bay. It is such a shame that Bar One which is situated in this amazing venue which attracts large number of tourist from around the globe, who visit our beautiful capital city are allowed to offer such appalling hospitality. Not an image the welsh government want to portray I'm sure! Never again!!

Popped in on a rainy day for some lunch - toasted sandwiches. The wait to order was rather long as the one member of staff taking the orders worked rather slowly. Making coffees seemed to be the cause of the delay. Once we had ordered though we only had to wait for a few minutes before our food came which was a pleasant surprise. It was OK as far as I can remember, but the beer was excellent. It was bottled beer from the local Celt brewery which is one of the best in Wales in my opinion and such a contrast to the trendy but poor quality continental lagers which so many places sell. I'd go there just for that.

We sat outside in glorious sunshine and enjoyed a great lunch. Despite being very busy and what seemed to be pretty chaotic, they rurally delivered on the quality and speed of service of our food. Thoroughly recommended.

Visited here on Bank Holiday Monday. The Bay was packed but Bar 1 was not. That should have told us something. The waiter who took our order clearly didn't want to be there. The food arrived quickly and this is the only positive thing we have to say about this establishment although perhaps given the quality of the dishes we received or should I say lack-lustre quality this should not be considered positive. My wife ordered a goats cheese and roasted veg bruschetta. The bruschetta comprised a ciabatta roll with its top roughly hacked away. This had then been shown the toaster for a millisecond then topped with goats cheese and roasted veg swimming in oil. The finishing touch was yesterday's lettuce. My toasted morrocan chicken toastie did not fair much better. Ciabbatta again given the same amount of time in the toaster filled with cold mediocre coronation chicken. Coffees were not much to write home about either. Very disappointing. We shall not be returning and unless they up their game I recommend that this eatery is avoided.

I have eaten here a few times with colleagues from work and recently had lunch with my brother, who was visiting from elsewhere in the UK. I like it a lot - they do decent food (the meatballs are worth having) and some good drinks (the smoothies in particular). It is a bit on the expensive side and if you go there when it is busy, you will probably not get such good service. However, you will also see the BBC production companies lunching here while they set up the next shoot for Dr Who and the service is always helpful and friendly. As a tip, remember that it has an upstairs section - most people do not realise and even when it is busy downstairs, you can get some quiet upstairs.

If this were a stand alone cafe I wouldn't bother. It's situated inside the Wales Millennium Centre. For that reason alone it should be making far more of an effort. The toasted sandwich I had was ok and arrived fairly quickly. My 'beef' is, as is so often the case, with the service. I was waiting for a friend to arrive so ordered a simple coffee. The manner in which I was served left much to be desired. It was if I was an inconvenient interruption to the conversation the person in question was having with a colleague, and that was after I had eventually been asked if I was waiting, which I would have thought was obvious. After my friend arrived we ordered our food from another staff member who couldn't have been more different; pleasant, helpful and welcoming. The experience is as important as the product isn't it? This place does the WMC no favours whatsoever.Needless to say there were few customers in at this lunchtime.

Visited here for a quick cuppa on a rainy Monday in July. Picked what we wanted, were told the price, handed over a RBS £20 note. The instant reaction was: We cannot accept that, the manager won't let us. I explained that it is legal tender across the UK, the waitress pointed to a note on the wall and said "these are fakes we cannot take them". I assured her it was not a fake but she would not listen to reason, I asked to speak to the manager, and was told she was in charge. My family were deeply upset by this reaction, we have NEVER had any issues with this ANYWHERE in the UK and certainly did not expect this is the Capital of Wales. On reading the other trip advisor reviews it seems that the name of this establishment is misleading as one usually refers to sector leading performance. POOR SERVICE and staff who accuse you of being master forgers do not point to sector best service. DO NOT VISIT, there are many more nicer options in the Millenium Centre who accept ALL LEGAL TENDER.

Popped in before attending a concert - didn't expect much. We were told there would be a 40 minute wait for food as they were busy. Food arrived after ten minutes though so quite pleased. Brie and pear salad was great, chilli con carne was good but not very hot - hence the average rating (would have been very good). At just under £20 for two meals and two drinks prices were pretty good. An enjoyable light meal, sat outside in the sun in Cardiff Bay

I recently visited Costa and tried their maple hot chocolate and salted caramel frappe. While the hot chocolate was absolutely delicious, I was a bit disappointed with the frappe. It didn't quite live up to the expectations set by the hot chocolate. However, the atmosphere and service were still excellent. I'd definitely return to try other items on their menu

Everything feshly made to order, very busy at lunchtime with a queue but this speaks for itself. They load the sandwiches and baquettes as much as possible, so good portions

The food was ok, not as good as any other Nando’s that I’ve been to. However there were flies everywhere constantly trying to get into the food or drinks. The second member of staff that we told offered to move us to a table near the door and free desserts, however 2/3 of us had finished our food. Not good enough for a newer Nando’s.

As chains go, Costa Coffee isn't too bad (great choc brownies!) but they need hot chocolate-making lessons at this particular branch. My drink was pathetically weak and, ironically, not half as nice as the hot chocolate I later bought from one of their Costa Express dispensing machines - in Asda. The only time ever I've ever praised a hot drinks machine. Come on Costa! Make all the drinks properly.
