Sullivans in East Riding of Yorkshire

What on Earth happened here? I'm guessing it has changed hands. Takeaway used to be superb. It's now awful. Soggy batter. Grey fish. Nondescript chips. We won't be returning.

You can't go to Hornsea without Sullivan's fish and chips, lovely little chippie a hop skip and jump from the water..sit outside enjoy the view.. reasonable prices for quality food

Absolutely amazing service and food. As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted by an amazing, friendly and helpful waitress who got us seated immediately and looked after us throughout our stay. We highly recommend and we will be back.

Took an elderly relative out for a day at the seaside. Decided to eat in at lunchtime and everyone enjoyed either fish and chips or a pattie. In fact the chips were some of the best we've ever tasted. Yorkshire Tea or coffees were also great. Very impressed by the young polite and friendly staff. Will certainly go back.....

Owner is rude, unkind and has zero common decency. As mentioned in an earlier review his treatment of a young and vulnerable girl is despicable and has meant that we will never eat here ever again. Not to mentioned that the food is as awful as the owner, very greasy and vastly overpriced. Avoid avoid avoid. Kindness goes a long way and costs nothing!

Didnt get a warm feeling when entering this establishment, followed by bland, tasteless food. We asked to speak to the manager who was cold, rude, never smiled nor empathised with us regarding our complaint. He needs to go on customer service training with immediate effect. Won't be going again nor will I recommend.

I wanted to write this earlier but my phone was dead. Visited earlier for lunch. Vile food. Vile owner. Avoid at all costs.

The fish was terrible. It had a strange taste. The staff, not exactly friendly and the chips were very undercooked. Certainly wouldn't recommend.

We called in as we were passing, the weather was good but a little windy so we decided to eat inside. All the staff we encountered were pleasant and helpful. I ordered the Jumbo Haddock with chips and a Curry sauce, the food was excellent and served in good time. Facilities on site were absolutely spotless and everyone was very helpful. Highly recommend this place as I found it absolutely delicious.

The fish and chips with mushy peas west delicious, I got a regular fish and chips and it was a generous serving, the fish was beautiful the best I've tasted for a while, the staff were friendly, all in all we had a lovely meal, would definitely come back

On a cold, grey, and periodically wet March day in Hornsea, it was nice to see that somewhere was open. I had left my car in the main car park and walked to the sea wall with my camera over my shoulder. Despite the wonderful smells as I walked past Sullivan's I kept my nerve and proceeded to a place where I could see the beach. On this particular day the vista was of various shades of grey to the horizon, and I'm not such a good photographer that I could make anything of that, so I trudged back landwards. On the second time of passing my resolve cracked, I was supposed to be on a diet, but the wonderful smell of fish and chips was just too much, so I went into the take away shop. I was the only one in, so had the undivided attention of the lady and the young chap who were working the counter. Both were very pleasant and chatty and quickly served up my fish, chips and peas. The standard portion is substantial, and I retruned to my car with a bottle of water to enjoy the feast. There is still something quite special about good take away fish and chips even on a gloomy seaside day. I had no qualms about the quality of the fish, it was superb, and in the end defeated me...managing only about half of what was quite a big portion. The batter was good but not the best I have had, but in paying lip service to my diet I didn't eat much of it anyway. There are quite a few negative reviews I've found on line, but my take on it was that this was very good, a proper seaside fish and chip shop.

Just finished our trans pennine trail adventures and finished with the most amazing fish and chip. The fish and batter was amazing. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. We can’t wait to come back and enjoy again. Thank you so so much

Went for fish and chips as a treat. Unfortunately, though the staff were really helpful and pleasant, the fish and chips were a total letdown. The fish was tasteless and the chips were bland. We are not 'complainers' and therefore put this down to a bad (expensive) experience. 😟

Went for take away fish n chips never will we go there again CHIPS WERE COLD AND MOSTLY SCRAPS. FISH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HADDOCK (but i have my doubts cost of fish n chips 2 was £19:40 ) rip-off We used to live in Hornsea and have heard about sullavans poor quality but thought we would try again. Heard them saying go careful with portions as they only just put chips on. So got about half size portions what normally would.

Good service, polite staff 👍. Food was generally tasty. Portion was ok but adult meals had the same amount of chips as kids meal off the children's menu.

Came to hornea to see family who live here, me and my boyfriend decided to get a fish butty each, no chips or anything, I couldn’t believe the price £16.80 for 2x fish butties , I genuinely thought I must have misheard and just tapped my card . Will never go here again, times are hard for businesses I do understand that, but times are hard for everyone and that was daylight robbery for a very mediocre greasy dish butty .

Had the fish and chips to eat out very tasty had to go back next day for a fish before we travelled home the ladies in the shop were very nice and friendly will definitely be back next year

This was a welcome place for refreshment after a walking tour of Beverley on a very hot day . Our party was easily accommodated together in a side room . The fish and chips were fine and appeared fairly quickly . The staff were pleasant and obliging .

Spent £25 today with my partner 3 year and 8 month old baby. We choose to sit on the benches out the back of the restaurant after purchasing from the front of the shop. Right near the doorway was a high chair so I popped in and asked if I could use the high chair for my baby whilst we ate. A lady said she’d have to ask the manager, she came back after some time and said NO. Sorry no, I can’t have a high chair after spending £25 on food at your establishment. I proceeded to say our food was purchased from the front. A extremely rude woman who I assume was said manager said you can’t take high chairs. I strongly advise that if you have little ones you use any of the other fish & chip shops in Hornsea which are much worthy of custom. This manager had zero customer service skills and an awful attitude towards me whilst I was stood there with my baby wanting to sit him in a chair.

Called in yesterday with my family for takeaway fish and chips and although the food itself was lovely, the service was horrendous. The women serving us was clearly intoxicated slurring and stumbling about. It was quite shocking to see she stank of alcohol to the point my child even noticed and asked what was wrong with that lady ? I don't know what management are doing in that place to miss this as it was clearly obvious. Its unfortunate as the good was in fact lovely but I wouldn't return

Absolutely top class, I would visit this area again just for the pleasure of eating these fish and chips, and very friendly staff. Everyone must have seen shows on TV where people have won a top fish and chips award, I’ve been to some of them, including Mr Steins and I’m here to tell you these are better.

9 of us desended here on a day trip out to hornsea , the service we recieved was realy good , they attended to our every need .But some of the the fish tasted "tangy". Don't get me wrong it was edible, but we've had far better . Give it a miss next time and try some where else

The nasty aggressive attitude of some of the staff members here means I won’t ever frequent them again. Not all of them, but one unfriendly egg with this kind of attitude is enough for me to stick to the seafront chippy up the road. You’re a chip shop selling deep fried potatoes...that’s all, leave the chip on your shoulder towards customers at home.

Staying in the local area we decided to visit this restaurant as we were passing by. From start to finish excellent service!. Covid precautions all in place and the staff clearly explain everything and are very very attentive!!. Out of the many restaurants weve been too during the pandemic these guys are by far the most thorough all delivered in a polite and friendly way. The restaurant is spotless throughout including the rest rooms. The food was served lovely and hot with a generous portion. Slightly pricey compared to some in the area but worth it for the service and the quality of the food. Would highly reccomend this place for a bite to eat in Hornsea!!

The restaurant area, tables and toilet facilities were immaculate - all the staff were obviously very keen to ensure the food was being prepared and served in a safe environment. The menu offered everything you would expect from a traditional Fish & Chip restaurant but there were also a number of sides to further tempt. All of the food was piping hot - the fish was really tasty with different sizes and types to choose from. Portions were also spot on. The restaurant area was all on one level, so was very accessible with no steps to negotiate and wide entrance would make it easy for wheelchairs.
