Fish & chips for 7 of us on a Saturday night. Piping hot, freshly cooked & very good portion sizes. Between us we had cod, battered jumbo sausages, cod bites & scampi. All spot on, thank you

Asked for and repeated the order twice for steamed cod but yet again on collecting given cod in batter. This is full of grease no fish just batter DO NOT BOTHER ORDERING!!

While on holiday in the area, my wife fancied fish and chips, and i found this place on searching the Internet. Looked at past reviews which were not good, i should of taken notice of them. But when i drove past the shop, customers were waiting for their orders and the shop had just opened 45 minutes earlier, so everything should be fresh. Ordered a small cod and chips and sausage in batter, so nothing fancy. After just a 5 minute drive home and opened the bag to find the cod soaking in oil and stuck to the paper. We at to wipe the excessive oil with kitchen paper. The sausage in batter had no batter because it was so hard and dry it had fallen off, indicating to me that wasnt fresh. Now for the chips that came out of the paper in a lump. They were soft and soggy and the worse i think i have every had. Apart from the cod that looked fresh but very oily the rest looked like it had been sitting around for a while. The now basic sausage did taste alright. So unfortunately i would not return or recommend this chip shop. The only nice thing about the shop was the young girl who served me was very polite.

Unwrapped the chips to be faced what i thought was a cat bit of cat fur. Pulled out and was a long human hair. Put me right off. Wont be eating chips again or anything else

Went here yesterday t time for a quick dinner drive 1 min down the road to eat the grease was dripping out the fish badly it went all down me and I hadn't even unwrap it ..i had 2 bites and cudnt eat no more as I threw up cos of the grease .. it was also so soggy .. the chips was pale and very soggy and all stuck together again cudnt eat them for the price u pay ud expect a decent meal .... back to stalbridge chippy I go

COVID rules set up correctly! As for the food I used to go to this chippy a lot when I lived in Stalbridge . Haven’t been for over a year. I truly wish I hadn’t made a Detour to use this chip shop . Large haddock was completely stuck to the paper it was wrapped in and the batter was soggy and couldn’t be scraped from the paper so I ended up with £6 haddock without batter greasy as hell and tasteless. Chips were soggy and oily . Worst fish and chips I’ve had for a long time . So so disappointed used to be a great chip shop . I paid £22.00 for just slop disgusting

Waited an hour for this, meant to be a jumbo battered sausage! Lost our business will go elsewhere from now.

Really great chippy..........so good we went twice on our week's stay in the area. Generous portion of thick cod, and very large chip portions. Took the COVID situation seriously which was also good to see.

Freshly cooked to order and good size portions.. especially the chips..also do pies and burgers .. allow yourself a little time to wait as its cooked to order

Don't mind waiting just raises expectations as everything is freshly cooked fish excellent chips not so hard cold and just bitty such a shame

The staff are sooo friendly, they work very hard in keeping up with the amount of customers, which is lots every night but soooo worth it. The fish is 'melt in your mouth' with a fantastic light batter, the chips , well, amazing. cooked perfectly. It may be busy but that is a good sign, well worth it.

Excellent food, friendly staff and cooked to order. Can’t fault it just phone your order through for a specific time of collection and it’s ready for you... all freshly cooked.

Had a lamb kebab to take away. On opening the bag half the kebab fell out. Was expecting lamb, some salad and pita bread but there was a large amount of cooked veg also which went everywhere.

Hubby had fish and chips from here on Friday evening. I didn't, as I'm not keen on fish and hate the usual alternative of Pukka pies. Hubby's portion was huge, hot and he said it was very tasty. There was a fair wait, but he said that was understandable as everything was cooked fresh. He also reported back that pies looked fresh, not processed and they had cornish pasties, so I wish I had tried a meal from there, now!

We were really pleased to find this place after a pleasant wander around Sturminster Newton. It was quite busy about half an hour from closing time, so there was quite a wait but the fish and chips were delicious and well worth the money.

We have been here before on holiday and were impressed last time so we went again..very very busy so had to wait for over 25 minutes..the fish was smaller than last time and a bit overcooked ..

This is a take-away Fish Bar. Everything is cooked to order so you will find a queue on most occasions. The food is so good it is worth the wait. Unless you live a long way away it will still be hot when you eat it. No frying on a Monday!

When I used the Chip Shop in July 17 it was superb, this July its a shaddow of its past, Fish didn't taste the same and took an absolute age well over 15 minutes to cook a small fish with chips and a battered sausage, (did they have to catch the fish and make the sausage first) when it wasn't exactly heaving. I hope it improves and gets back to what it was.

Haven’t been in this place for a few weeks as we only down here for visits my another half family as we are based in Berkshire!!! Don’t even know they have change hand since last year. Lee & Yoyo these beautiful young couple always have the big smiles on their faces and the portion size is bigger than usual! Hot food and the fish batter is just perfect and not too greasy ( we personally prefer lighter batter !!! ) Highlights of the day and worth it! Keeping the best out there!

After a visting the Stur Fish Bar I didn't like the look of the staff waving their hair around over open food. With food hygiene rules these days I am surprised.maybe its something owners could look into. Also it's quicker to go to stalbrige chippy even when you ring order through. I understand its all fresh but when they say a time for collection you don't expect to still be there a hour later. If I hadn't paid I would have walked out. The last owners never had this trouble.

We decided to give the chippy another couple of tries before we went elsewhere. I’m pleased we did. It’s not quite what it was but the fish was bigger than the slice we had last time. Our invited friends agreed it’s picked up and it tasted lovely. We’ve yet to test if the fish bites are back on form.

Dinner foe the family yesterday why is it that when they change hands they bugger with the formula that was working. It was always packed now grot savaloy grot sausages grot curry sauce fish ok chips saturated and stick. Shadow of what it once was.

Great fish and chips, not greasy and very crispy. The chips are crispy, and you get to many, so ask for small portion, fish cooked to perfection. We now have a great fish & chip shop in Sturminster Newton.

In short since the new owners took over the fish bar is just not as good. Portions are smaller, chips taste reheated & old. I always like mine double dunked as I like them hot & crispy - tonight their version of double dunked was 30 seconds & they were pretty limp & tasted old.

Took a short break to Dorset with the family and was looking for a place to eat. Came across this fish bar and hands down, it was the best meal we have ever had. The price was extremely reasonable for the quality of the food and the service given by the front staff was exceptional. I would definitely recommend the cod, it was flaky and crispy. The cod was thick and compared to the fish and chips I had in London, it was the best. Would definitely come back when we visit Dorset again

The new owners have reduced the portions. Smaller servings of chips and noticeably smaller servings of cod. Looks like they’ve been sliced horizontally in half so you’ve lost that lovely fish flakeyness. The cod bites are smaller too. I hope they take note of their latest reviews and get it back on form before we have to go elsewhere. This chippy was the best a few months ago. (They got my order wrong too but I couldn’t be bothered to return for the lost item)

Chip shop has recently taken over by new owners and truly wish them all the best as they have a tough act to follow.

We had a family takeaway meal from here during our stay in Sturminster. Cod and chips, the British standard! The cod was excellent, fresh and flaky, and the chips were very tasty. I highly recommend this place and would use it regularly if we lived nearby.

Lovely cooked chips! The cod roe is cooked perfectly and the staff are lovely! Often with fish and chips there's a pool of grease but these were dry... brilliant!

Este lugar realmente ya que los nuevos propietarios tomaron más de hace un par de años. Que siempre está lleno el viernes por la noche, que es una buena señal y ellos están dispuestos a tomar pedidos telefónicos. La calidad es muy buena.

Este no es un restaurante. Pedimos con anticipación, llevó a recogerlo y volvimos a nuestro hermano y hermana-en-residencia de la ley. Es uno de los mejores lugares para pescado y patatas fritas. ¡Nunca!

I do not favour the customer relationship at this fish and chip shop.It seems very much if your face fits.I used to use this often as not knowing the area but was always disappointed.The chips always seem soggy and dripping in grease which could be several reasons, the fat wasn't not enough when they were put in or there was to much in the fryer at the time or dare I say it the oil needs changing, supplier as well.For a busy chip shop you would expect a decent amount of stock, but none the less whatever time you go in its always sold out, try peeling more.That leads me nicely on to the service, forget it that you have been stood there sometime waiting to order and the phone goes, everyone seems to drop everything to answer the phone and guess what that phone call gets priority and goes to the front of the queue.This has happened to me on more than one occasion and they will no longer get my custom.If other people are feeling the same way and have access to a vehicle 10 mins up the road at Stalbridge is a little shop that will bend over backwards for you. Nothing is too much trouble and they are always happy to see you.Westminster Newton can keep their stuck up chip shop and soggy chips I will go where my custom is wanted and a phone call isn't more important than someone stood right in front of you. Let's face it the phone call has to come and collect the order so wait in line like the rest and wait your turn.

This is our second visit here whilst staying at a cottage in nearby Marnhull.Both times the fish and chips have been absolutely delicious - perfectly cooked and not greasy. Good size portions and good value for money.Nice and friendly staff too.They only take cash so come prepared but we were told a debit card machine was on its way.

Stumbled on this chippy whilst visiting people locally, had to wait a little while as everything is cooked fresh, which is a good sign. Plenty of choice, friendly staff, great tasting food, would highly recommend!

You step back into a nostalgic age when you enter this charming little fish and chip shop - beautifully cooked to order - fish to die for - a full traditional menu of everything you would expect prepared by friendly staff - best chippy by miles in the area - well worth a visit

This place is super busy at weekends but great fish and chips and the reason u wait is that everything is cooked to order. We had a large order for a group of fussy eaters and everybody was happy! Telephone your order through to avoid the wait!

This place is unusual in that they wait for you to order before cooking, no fish that has been languishing in a heated cabinet.That it is popular is evidenced by the number of customers to be found waiting for fresh cooked hot food.

It was meant to be a treat! My French partner placed an order, having cued a while, we asked for Plaice, & not having cash, He had to walk up to the bank in the rain, with a chronic illness. We were then put to the back of the growing line of customers, I saw the Plaice put in the hot cabinet, where it sat for over 20 Minutes! I asked if my order was up? BUT the answer was NO. I asked for another Fish, by the time they called us, on the grounds the Plaice would be ruined, having sat for so long. It was a Very distressing experience, as There is nowhere to sit down! I also have a Pain syndrome, so I was in agony, waiting all that time. I will never be getting a meal from here. I'm sure they won't care...it is clearly popular...BUT this is MY experience- I wonder if not being a Local, with a foreign partner affected our experience!

Excellent food and a friendly service. Be prepared to wait while your food is freshly cooked. Can get very busy especially on a Friday night but well worth the wait.

We were staying in a cottage about five miles away. Our food was freshly cooked, ample sized portions and still perfectly hot by the time we got back to the cottage.

Called in at 6pm on a Saturday, the shop was absolutely buzzing.Despite the huge demand all the food was cooked to order and fresh and hot.Fish and chips were superb.

Best Fish & Chips we've had for many a year and they also do great Steak & Kidney Pie & Chips. We are regulars here and cannot recommend it highly enough, good choice of menu, all of which are very scrummy!!! Owners and staff are so friendly and welcoming. Venue is also very smart and clean.

Having been in NZ for 8 years, this was the first UK chippy we've visited. Proper selection of fish, chips, burgers, pea fritters etc Awesome curry sauce, gravy, mushy peas, beans etc. So lovely to see all this again. Popular place, so get in quick! N.B. You cannot eat in here. Takeaways only

Was visiting a friend, and came across this jewel ( It reminded me of a chippy when i was a kid ), when i went in, it was very busy... always a good sign, good choice of food, staff very friendly and efficient and with only a 10 minute wait. I had large chips with a battered sausage and a fish cake, wrapped in good old fashion chip paper..... The food was lovely, big thick cut fluffy chips and the fish cake was divine..... Its like a chippy from the past, i will be back !!

Great Fish & Chip shop. Used to be ok at best but was taken over by a new couple a few years back and is now excellent.The batter on the fish is normally a fair indication of a good Chippy. It's outstanding, light and crispy, enough to cover the fish without drowning it (excuse the pun, I am sure you know what I mean). Good potion sizes on the chips. I can pack away my food but a small portion is even enough for me! Cod bites are excellent, small fish fillets rather than nuggets as is often the case.You can ring to place your order. It can get very busy around tea time, especially on a Fri so ringing your order in is well worth it.Friendly and efficient staff. Prices are good. They are shut on one day ( think it is Mon but can't remember) so just check or you may be disappointed.Not much more you can say. If you fancy fish and chips and are near Stur, go get some. They are excellent.

Visited because Stalbridge's chippy was closed. I remember the Stur chippy when it was the kingfish and it was pretty average with greasy fish. Pleasantly happy with a hugh portion of cod, medium chips and mushy peas. They were busy but still good service and good tasting fish with crispy batter. Price average. Would have been 5 stars but no pea fritters ready to go.

We started eyeing up the Fish Bar when we walked into Sturminster Newton and saw then and every time we passed, the promising sign of queues. They were the best fish and chips we've ever had - beautifully cooked, the staff were very good at their jobs and kept the flow going. And it isn't expensive -we had scampi and small chips for two for £10, and there were loads of chips!Well done!

We are so lucky to have this fish and chip shop in our small town. It is always cooked fresh to order hence a little patience needed but not overly long as they are so well organised.....portions very generous so we have 1 large chips between us and our dog! Owner always shouts a thankyou to each person who leaves even though he is busy cooking - great service!

Went there with my partner and we bought a portion of cod and chips each this evening. After just two mouthfuls of both the fish and the chips each we consigned them to the bin.'Scrag' end of chips, soaking in disgusting tasting oil, tasteless, watery fish in soggy batter.Far from the crispy, fresh and tasty fish and chips you might expect you may just as well of gone home and microwaved a frozen version, to better effect.Out of 10 ? minus 4... and £13/long wait not well spent.

Since the new owners have taken over the service has been excellent, they are so friendly and even though there are always loads of customers ( a good sign) they are still efficient and the wait is not too bad. The fish and chips are tasty and good value, my daughter loves the cheesy chips. I'd recommend it to everyone.

We regularly get fish and chips here and feel lucky to live near such a great fish and chip shop - the best we have ever come across! It does get busy at times, but we always feel it is worth the wait for such well cooked food. This takeaway is very professionally run by the owners and they have built up a lovely friendly team too.
