Very expensive so not overly keen on buying a round here but this is where people seem to want to be. Staff are lovely but not so good at remembering who was at the bar first when it's busy

Gorgeous pub, excellent service and fab food. Really helpful for accommodating young families too. Would highly recommend and we'll definitely be back. Thank you especially to our lovely waitress.

Our first visit to The Mitre in Shaftesbury since Jonathan and his team took over, and we are wondering why we left it so long. A very busy night for New Year's Eve, but you wouldn't have known from the excellent service. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and will be back soon. Thank you to everyone who was working that night xx

Had to wait an hour and a half for our food to arrive ... When arrived , the food was all right . The staff was apologetic for the delay ..

Meal for 4. Pre-reserved table in the dining room at the rear of the property. Pleasant enough. Our group had 2 specials - Duck breast and Chicken. Duck was slightly tough. Chicken seemed ok. Plenty of use of Christmas ingredients but no problem with this, makes perfect sense. Waitress was helpful enough and checked how our meal was. She was running the whole room both for orders and delivering the food so was kept busy. The duck jus and jus which came with the Kiev seemed a bit congealed - not sure why unless it had been over-reduced. Overall, an OK experience but just feel the drinks and food prices for the meal were slightly over the top (London prices in Dorset).

Definitely worth coming to. Good food, nice place. James is a legend. What a guy. Nothing is too much trouble for him. He should be given a raise.

Wonderful bustling atmosphere in the bar. A very relaxing sitting in the Restaurant lounge. Staff extremely polite and professional. The food just as amazing as the staff.

We liked the food. Service was okay. Vibes were good. Just one hiccup - we reserved a table for dinner way in advance and were cramped in a small corner while the next table had a bigger group (around 7 persons seated at a 4-person table) just having drinks. Not surprisingly, they were pretty loud in conversing. We were not comfortable with this setting and after a short while, requested to switch to another table. The staff was courteous and helped us look into that. Fortunately there was one spare and more spacious table available in another section of the pub and we were able to better enjoy our dinner eventually. I wish they could be more thoughtful when they were assigning table for guests.

great place, friendly staff and a fantastic sunday roast!

We visit every year around this time. Sadly the food wasn’t to the standard it usually is - there was a bone in my fish pie, my mums burger was so delayed we’d all finished eating by the time it arrived and my sons and dads chips were cold. Staff were friendly, welcoming and as lovely as ever and did help us to reach a solution so we were happy, but it was a bit of a disappointment.

Food was delicious and the pub has a nice atmosphere, would recommend the pasta it was amazing.

We had reserved a table for lunch. We have been a few times before to The Mitre. On this occasion, we were seated at the back of the pub with no-one else in that area until a couple arrived later. We felt a little "out of sight" although the service was good but we didn't get the usual buzz of the atmosphere as on previous visits.

I went in for Sunday lunch, great food and great customer service Rheanna was helpful and made us feel welcome.

As a family we have just moved back to the area, we arranged a meet up with family, we all had food and drink! Kids burgers were amazing as were our meals. We were served by Annabel (I’m sure that was her name) this visit i believe was her first shift or at least first week, honestly she definitely went above and beyond… very attentive, so friendly and great with our fussy kids! We have been back a few times now and were so pleased on a couple of our visits to see Annabel again! Best of all she remembered us! If I could give more that 5 🌟 for service then I would have! Annabel is a credit to you… if you want a fun atmosphere, wether it’s friends catch ups, date night, or place to take the kids for lunch.. we highly recommend.. bonus will be having Annabel as your waitress! We were looking for a noce place to go in shaftesbury and decided to go here, we decided to go for the burgers which were fantastic. Our server was really friendly and made us feel truely valued and welcomed, I believe her name was Rheanna. We loved the place, food and the servoce we got and will definately come back again.

My girlfriend and I had a great time at The Mitre. The food was lovely and our server Annabel was attentive and friendly and went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed. Thank you Annabel and team.

Ruined our day! Ordered Smoked Mackerel pate with toasted rye bread, watercress & pickled fennel - what arrived was a blob of Smoked Mackerel pate on a chunky bit of Sourdough bread smothered with butter making it soft & fatty. Instead of watercress, they had sprinkled chives along with pickled fennel & onions! Firstly the above represents false advertising (You failed to deliver anywhere close to what you advertise on the menu) & secondly after making the server aware, after checking with the kitchen he agreed it was the wrong bread & that watercress was missing (which is what makes or breaks this dish). The management were not prepared to compensate which from my point of view as a past Manager of Hilton & A la carte Manager of a restaurant, amounts to very poor practice & arrogance. I would be worried to try any other food at this establishment based on the Kitchens inability to deliver on such a simple but potentially exquisite dish!

Highly enjoyed experience, first time visiting The Mitre. I have restricted dietary requirements which were handed well. Though I like to see a non-alcoholic gluten & lactose free beer option that’s not a cider. Try dig drop DDH pale or Drop bear beer. Our server Rheanna was excellent and credit to your establishment, the experience should not have been the same without her.

Another return visit to my favourite pub in Shaftesbury.Always a warm welcome beautiful surroundings very cosy this time of year and lovely views in the summer.Enjoyed a Guinness and some nuts which were scooped from a jar into a glass.The dog loves it here to we have eaten here before and cannot fault it.A must visit if your in Shaftesbury.

Lovely food, I had roast pork belly, my partner had roast beef. They were very accommodating to our dog, the Initial service was a little slow to get a drink but it was busy.

A great dog friendly pub, and fantastic Sunday lunch , enjoyable atmosphere and a good selection of beers . The staff were polite friendly and helpful , especially our server , Rheanna , who made a fuss of our dog and made sure we had everything we needed. We look forward to our next visit.

Sadly we had a really poor experience. We came in for a couple of drinks - our standard round of a large glass of wine (Malbec), pint of Peroni and one packet of crisps. Typically we'll pay up to £16 outside of London for this so was I was really disappointed to be presented with a bill for £24.60. The bar staff were indifferent/unconcerned at my amazement. This is a normal pub and the wine was nothing special - you should be able to get a pretty decent generic malbec for £9. I just can't understand why such poor value/high cost. If you are passing through Shaftesbury I would recommend that you ASK FOR THE WINE LIST BEFORE ORDERING (DON'T ASSUME YOU'LL BE GETTING THE CHEAPEST THEY HAVE) or just avoid the place altogether.

Nice and easy to get to and park at, clean, fun and nice and busy. Our booked table was ready a whole hour in advance and table service was warm and attentive. Food was great quality and arrived quickly. Overall a great night, would go again.

A classy establishment completely let down by a completely trash music playlist! Please choose your audience and stick with it; cutting from '23 pop to 80s alternative is sure to piss at least a few people off...

Overall a good night. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was good and the Mitre is in a fabulous setting, decorated beautifully and has always been the ‘go to’ place when friends visit. On this occasion however, I was disappointed with the food. I’ve had the Mitre Burger before, a hearty, well presented burger served with the most gorgeous, chunky triple cooked chips. Not this time! A regular burger, nothing special, with skinny fries that were no better than those from a super market, the whole meal was very underwhelming for the price!! I don’t mind paying for good food but I felt a bit cheated. My friend had the fish pie, again, very tasty but no veg, just a portion of fish pie presented on a wooded board…I guess that’s why it was £18!! I’m sad to say (and I really am sad because you are all so lovely) I won’t be taking friends there again, you’ve over priced yourselves for what is essentially pub grub…sorry guys! Think you could do better.

Probably best to book on a Sunday lunch time but staff were lovely and found us a table. I had fish pie. Delicious

Had very basic ham, egg and chips a couple of months ago, and it was lovely. Lovely slices of ham and the basics, crispy chips etc. Today, apparently now called “ham hock” we were served some over cooked bits of hock, which were either fatty or cremated and hidden under the egg. Completely unacceptable unfortunately.

Ideally located close to Gold Hill, Shaftesbury, this place has had a complete face-lift and is a wonderful place to visit. Staff welcoming and helpful, food usually good and great range of drinks, alcoholic and otherwise on offer. The new rear garden is stepped over several levels, with far reaching views to the south of Shaftesbury. On a sunny day, there really aren't many better places to visit!

As a new venture 'locals night' was a great success. A simplified menu that was excellent value for money. Our server Annabel was super friendly, helpful, attentive but never overbearing. A very good idea!

Great pub with a fantastic wine menu and good beer selection. We only ate some small plate/bar snacks, so not a full meal, which were really tasty.

Always a warm welcome at The Mitre you are greeted like one of the family. The service was great and the food the best anywhere in Dorset. Karol is an exceptional food artist, his artistry lights up every dish. Great customer service in everyway!! Thank you The Mitre for making every visit a special visit, it's like coming home!!

I have been here a few times for food and drinks. Always seems quite busy - good - and some of the staff are excellent. Sometimes a bit hit and miss with the service but overall good, and the garden at the back has some lovely views over the Blackmore Vale. The lower terraces are deceptively spacious, nice place to hang out on a fine summer’s evening especially . 😀

I haven't eaten here so can't comment. But the atmosphere is wonderful. The outside seating has a lovely view over the Dorset countryside. And there are blankets available if you get too cold as the sun goes down.

My Son really enjoyed his food, fish and chips and crumble. My mussels and chips were tasty but there wasn’t enough especially as some mussels were closed. I don’t have a large appetite so unusual for me to feel hungry after a meal. I was given extra mussels and bread which helped. I had my favourite sticky toffee pudding for afters and there wasn’t enough sauce and it was rock hard through the middle. The chef asked to see it and Rhiannon took it to show him. I’m thinking it must have been microwaved?? Would not recommend due to the price point for 2 disappointing course. Rhiannon was great, an asset to the team

You wouldn’t believe the views at the back of this place in the beer garden from walking into it on a Main Street. Unbelievable views! Food was great, perfect. The service was fantastic, all staff seem really happy and very friendly. Blake was fantastic and looked after us throughout the evening. Looking forward to returning!

Grea5 pub with a fantastic view

The best steak and ale pie I've had, the other meal was also very good. Great service and a beautiful venue.

Popped in for a Monday supper and found the Mitre to be welcoming with a nice atmosphere. Food was decent and tasty pub food and the wine was good too. More imaginative vegetarian choices than risotto and burger would be appreciated but the risotto was tasty with nicely cooked courgette and tasty toms on top. Beetroot hummus small plate appetiser was excellent. Would return if in the area.

Totally over priced, I have been drinking in Knightsbridge in London and haven't paid the extortionate prices this little pub charges,,thinking next time I visit shaftsbury I'll avoid this very expensive place,,,

Me and my partner visited Mitre for a little lunch date. Booking the table was nice an easy through their website. Front of house staff were very attentive. We ordered a couple of roast chickens, food arrived very promptly. We were surprised considering it was the bank holiday weekend Sunday and it was fairly busy. The roasts were absolutely delicious, veg were cooke to perfection, and the chicken was succulent and tender. And the gravy was to die for. Will definitely be coming back for the roast again! Thank you.

I booked because we had friends staying that hadn’t been to Shaftesbury before. We were seated with the most spectacular views! We had a lovely meal and Blake our waiter was the best. Extremely helpful, great sense of humour and made our evening one to remember.

The Cumberland Sausages were superb and well presented, marred only by the Lancashire Spring Greens which had an unpleasant, undercooked texture and did nothing to enhance the dish. The real let-down was the Somerset Chicken Escalope Caesar Salad, which consisted of a exceedingly small beaten out chicken breast (a paltry piece of poultry, one might say!), embellished with two or three modest lettuce leaves, a couple of small pieces of bacon and a frugal sprinkling of parmesan. At £18.00 the dish was very poor value for money. As to the puddings, the Yoghurt Pannacotta was delicious, as was the medley of ice creams, but the Bramley, Apple & Rhubarb Oat Crumble was not enhanced by merely (seemingly) sprinkling oats over the top, rather in the tradition of the American ‘Apple Crisp’. Far better to use the traditional British ingredients of flour, granulated sugar and unsalted butter.

A very brief stop off for some food & a pint & it did not dissapoint! The Estrella was lush! Ordered the fish and chips & I didn't want it to end. Best pub fish & chips I've had, bloody superb!

The best thing is the view over Blackmore Vale. The service was't brilliant. A bit careless with bringing condiments etc.

Is a nice enough pub, food is pretty good, nice selection of drinks. My only gripe was food took a long time (50ish minutes) to come out to us, and also when the bill was paid they added a 10% tip on top of the 12.5% gratuity that was already on the bill, not really sure why, I'd already confirmed the gratuity was on there, as it had initially been missed off.

Absolutely great all the way around. Loved the food, the atmosphere, and the friendly servers. A favorite of our trip, we're wishing we didn't live way over across the pond or we'd be back over and over.

Lovely friendly place with excellent food and service to match

Came in last night to entertain my work and sat on the bottom decking to enjoy the view and nice weather. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and a well needed pint. But wanted to note that I felt awful for the pregnant waitress who served us and a few other tables. Going up and down that decking in this heat on her own didn’t seem good practice and or safe.

Arranged a surprise birthday lunch for my mother last weekend. Staff very helpful, food hot and tasty, but service very slow. The pub was very busy but there didn’t seem to be enough kitchen staff so don’t visit if you’re in a hurry.

Thursday night. One person behind the bar.bone person rearranging chairs on the deck and one waitress looking for something to do. Waited 15 mins while cocktails were made for a group of 4...walked out after 15 mins just stood there. Not even acknowledged. Ate at the brewers instead.

Love sitting out on the decking cause its a beautiful view, food is always delicious. Always seem to order the same thing which is the burger cause its soo good! The chuntey thats in it is my favourite, wish i had a jar of it. Staff are always kind & helpful. Would always highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a meal out. 12/10 :)

We travelled from Salisbury for a celebratory lunch for my sister's birthday. Beautiful setting, delicious meal, unfortunately spoiled by the attitude of one male member of staff. Really rude to me and others! There is so much competition today The Mitre cannot sit on its laurels. Staff training definitely needed for this young man. Infuriating!

Fantastic pub. My second visit and it was better than the first. S The staff were very attentive and the food was really good.

Fantastic food, great ales, lovely pub, stunning scenery from the beer garden

The food is pretty good, prices are acceptable being affordable for what we had, the venue is great with wonderful views but there are a couple of problems…the first being that we had asked for a table with a view but instead this was ignored and we were inside looking at a wall (this was an online booking so our request was in writing) and the service, and in particular the attitude of some of the young servers decidedly left something to be desired. I felt like apologising for taking up their time, so much did I get the impression that they would rather have been somewhere else.

Our first visit to The Mitre. Staff friendly and helpful. Food was amazing, I had a Sausage Sandwich and Bacon Sandwich, both very tasty and hot. Local produce is used every time. Would certainly recommend, make sure you visit next time you are in Shaftesbury.

Great pub, the staff are friendly. I feel sorry for thema as the app that you order food for is terrible and so many can't even get on to the website. We saw some people getting so frustrated and it took us quite a while to order our food. Lovely views from the garden. We had food and drinks whilst the football was on.

My Husband has suffered the worst food poisoning. He had the burger so I'm next as I had the same, we got home at 10 30pm He said he felt ill, it's 3:44am we havnt slept he's been sick all this time. We had both been fine all day untill we went for dinner.

We're local and with the previous and new management have always enjoyed visiting The Mitre. Another super meal and the, now expected, friendly efficient service

The mitre is in my home town but I’d not eaten here for years, I went with my daughter this week and had to leave a review. The chef clearly knows how to cook, the vegetable risotto was insanely good, beautifully cooked seasonal veg, we will definitely be back more regularly now.

James and Lewis were both so friendly and kind ..very informative in terms of menu and options .. food was really really good ..don't have any complaints at all the View from the garden is stunning and coupled with good food and beer it was an exceptional experience I would recommend anyone too eat and or drink here so very happy cheers mitre shaftsbury..it's good too see there are some proper pubs left ... thanks chef best pie I've had in years
