Good pub, nice selection of drinks if a bit pricey. Just one point, dogs sitting on the seats, not very hygienic?? Just saying.

You wouldn’t believe the views at the back of this place in the beer garden from walking into it on a Main Street. Unbelievable views! Food was great, perfect. The service was fantastic, all staff seem really happy and very friendly. Blake was fantastic and looked after us throughout the evening. Looking forward to returning!

My Son really enjoyed his food, fish and chips and crumble. My mussels and chips were tasty but there wasn’t enough especially as some mussels were closed. I don’t have a large appetite so unusual for me to feel hungry after a meal. I was given extra mussels and bread which helped. I had my favourite sticky toffee pudding for afters and there wasn’t enough sauce and it was rock hard through the middle. The chef asked to see it and Rhiannon took it to show him. I’m thinking it must have been microwaved?? Would not recommend due to the price point for 2 disappointing course. Rhiannon was great, an asset to the team

Popped in for a Monday supper and found the Mitre to be welcoming with a nice atmosphere. Food was decent and tasty pub food and the wine was good too. More imaginative vegetarian choices than risotto and burger would be appreciated but the risotto was tasty with nicely cooked courgette and tasty toms on top. Beetroot hummus small plate appetiser was excellent. Would return if in the area.

The best steak and ale pie I've had, the other meal was also very good. Great service and a beautiful venue.

Totally over priced, I have been drinking in Knightsbridge in London and haven't paid the extortionate prices this little pub charges,,thinking next time I visit shaftsbury I'll avoid this very expensive place,,,

Me and my partner visited Mitre for a little lunch date. Booking the table was nice an easy through their website. Front of house staff were very attentive. We ordered a couple of roast chickens, food arrived very promptly. We were surprised considering it was the bank holiday weekend Sunday and it was fairly busy. The roasts were absolutely delicious, veg were cooke to perfection, and the chicken was succulent and tender. And the gravy was to die for. Will definitely be coming back for the roast again! Thank you.

Stopped for a quick passing drink but lovely atmosphere and lovely view out back. Didn't try the food but would return and try at some point!

I booked because we had friends staying that hadn’t been to Shaftesbury before. We were seated with the most spectacular views! We had a lovely meal and Blake our waiter was the best. Extremely helpful, great sense of humour and made our evening one to remember.

The Cumberland Sausages were superb and well presented, marred only by the Lancashire Spring Greens which had an unpleasant, undercooked texture and did nothing to enhance the dish. The real let-down was the Somerset Chicken Escalope Caesar Salad, which consisted of a exceedingly small beaten out chicken breast (a paltry piece of poultry, one might say!), embellished with two or three modest lettuce leaves, a couple of small pieces of bacon and a frugal sprinkling of parmesan. At £18.00 the dish was very poor value for money. As to the puddings, the Yoghurt Pannacotta was delicious, as was the medley of ice creams, but the Bramley, Apple & Rhubarb Oat Crumble was not enhanced by merely (seemingly) sprinkling oats over the top, rather in the tradition of the American ‘Apple Crisp’. Far better to use the traditional British ingredients of flour, granulated sugar and unsalted butter.

A very brief stop off for some food & a pint & it did not dissapoint! The Estrella was lush! Ordered the fish and chips & I didn't want it to end. Best pub fish & chips I've had, bloody superb!

The best thing is the view over Blackmore Vale. The service was't brilliant. A bit careless with bringing condiments etc.

Absolutely great all the way around. Loved the food, the atmosphere, and the friendly servers. A favorite of our trip, we're wishing we didn't live way over across the pond or we'd be back over and over.

Is a nice enough pub, food is pretty good, nice selection of drinks. My only gripe was food took a long time (50ish minutes) to come out to us, and also when the bill was paid they added a 10% tip on top of the 12.5% gratuity that was already on the bill, not really sure why, I'd already confirmed the gratuity was on there, as it had initially been missed off.

Came in last night to entertain my work and sat on the bottom decking to enjoy the view and nice weather. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and a well needed pint. But wanted to note that I felt awful for the pregnant waitress who served us and a few other tables. Going up and down that decking in this heat on her own didn’t seem good practice and or safe.

Arranged a surprise birthday lunch for my mother last weekend. Staff very helpful, food hot and tasty, but service very slow. The pub was very busy but there didn’t seem to be enough kitchen staff so don’t visit if you’re in a hurry.

Love sitting out on the decking cause its a beautiful view, food is always delicious. Always seem to order the same thing which is the burger cause its soo good! The chuntey thats in it is my favourite, wish i had a jar of it. Staff are always kind & helpful. Would always highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a meal out. 12/10 :)

Thursday night. One person behind the bar.bone person rearranging chairs on the deck and one waitress looking for something to do. Waited 15 mins while cocktails were made for a group of 4...walked out after 15 mins just stood there. Not even acknowledged. Ate at the brewers instead.

Really great place. Went for lunch in the garden. Gorgeous view, nice food and lovely staff. Shall be coming back to try more of the menu soon!

We travelled from Salisbury for a celebratory lunch for my sister's birthday. Beautiful setting, delicious meal, unfortunately spoiled by the attitude of one male member of staff. Really rude to me and others! There is so much competition today The Mitre cannot sit on its laurels. Staff training definitely needed for this young man. Infuriating!

Great terrace out the back with excellent views, worth a visit for this alone.

The food is pretty good, prices are acceptable being affordable for what we had, the venue is great with wonderful views but there are a couple of problems…the first being that we had asked for a table with a view but instead this was ignored and we were inside looking at a wall (this was an online booking so our request was in writing) and the service, and in particular the attitude of some of the young servers decidedly left something to be desired. I felt like apologising for taking up their time, so much did I get the impression that they would rather have been somewhere else.

My Husband has suffered the worst food poisoning. He had the burger so I'm next as I had the same, we got home at 10 30pm He said he felt ill, it's 3:44am we havnt slept he's been sick all this time. We had both been fine all day untill we went for dinner.

Great pub, the staff are friendly. I feel sorry for thema as the app that you order food for is terrible and so many can't even get on to the website. We saw some people getting so frustrated and it took us quite a while to order our food. Lovely views from the garden. We had food and drinks whilst the football was on.

Our first visit to The Mitre. Staff friendly and helpful. Food was amazing, I had a Sausage Sandwich and Bacon Sandwich, both very tasty and hot. Local produce is used every time. Would certainly recommend, make sure you visit next time you are in Shaftesbury.

The mitre is in my home town but I’d not eaten here for years, I went with my daughter this week and had to leave a review. The chef clearly knows how to cook, the vegetable risotto was insanely good, beautifully cooked seasonal veg, we will definitely be back more regularly now.

James and Lewis were both so friendly and kind ..very informative in terms of menu and options .. food was really really good ..don't have any complaints at all the View from the garden is stunning and coupled with good food and beer it was an exceptional experience I would recommend anyone too eat and or drink here so very happy cheers mitre shaftsbury..it's good too see there are some proper pubs left ... thanks chef best pie I've had in years

Popped in for my first pint of youngs special that I have had in years. It was ok.

Met my son here for an early evening meal. A really pleasant atmosphere, lovely staff and great views. We both ordered the Chicken, ham and leak pie. It was fabulous; one of the richest and tastiest pie I have had in years. My son also thought so. Will visit again for sure.

Visited yesterday 18/05. There was a new trainee behind the bar, who was truly trying his best and I always have patience with new staff, there is a learning curve for bar staff. My issue comes from the female presenting member of staff who was also behind the bar. She was visibly frustrated with the trainee. He had poured the pint I had asked for and asker her for assistance with the head creation on the pint. She then took the glass from him and I saw her dip her finger into the glass and hook something out. I then heard her say there was a hair in the glass and that it would need to be redone (this very clearly annoyed her!) - my genuine question here is that, if she hadn’t have noticed I was watching, would I have been presented with a pint that had, had her finger in it? If she noted a hair in the glass there really was no need to hook it out of the glass because the fluid needs to be wasted regardless, absolutely no need to dip her finger in and sets a bad example for a trainee who would be absorbing everything they see. She then proceeded to continue to appear visibly frustrated with the trainee and completely took over pouring the new pint and finishing the other drink, without getting the trainee to watch her so that he could further learn how to correctly pour this particular beverage. For transparency, I am a hospitality trainer and assessor, so I instinctively watch when staff in venues im visiting are training. I had no issue with the trainee, I would have been happy to exercise a great deal of patience or even offer him a few pointers. My issue really was the attitude of the person training him. Her approach wasn't going to foster confidence in a staff member who was clearly nervous on his first day. It made me feel uncomfortable for him and question whether she was even training him best practice standards. I came to this venue for a relaxing drink but on the onset of my visit I could feel so much tension from the female staff member towards the trainee that I felt tense.

The Mitre is a lovely pub with a good atmosphere and beautiful views across the Blackmore Vale from their decking area. A stunning place to visit. I think we were unlucky with the service and had to wait ages for our food ( they did give us a free drink because of this). I had the smoked haddock and crab mornay which was delicious but there was very little of it with just a salad. Luckily I don’t have a massive appetite.

Had a lovely lunch here today. Was served by Ella, very friendly and helpful. Nice selection of Alcohol Free drinks too ( medicine requires this😊). Looked like a good selection of full strength drinks as well.

On arrival we got seated and ordered drinks, which didnt turn up until after the food which was around 25 minutes, hair was found on plate and drinks were filled full of ice, overall not a nice environment and felt i was chasing staff for drinks and condiments throughout.

Great place and atmosphere however it was very busy and although our table was booked for 1.30pm we didn't actually get our main meal until an hour later. Great portions, myself and my husband both ordered a Roast beef lunch with all the trimmings but the beef was tough and my husband left most of his meat as he just couldn't chew it - I got through most of my meat but it was hard going and I did have to leave some - the Yorkshire pudding was amazing as was everything else - I wish I had ordered the chicken. My friend ordered the risotto but she wasn't very impressed 😕 - she said it was a great portion but tasted very bland. Overall we enjoyed the ambience - it's a really lovely place and I'm sure the terrace is fantastic when the weather is hot and sunny. We would go back.

Food was nice just not many vegetarian and vegan choices. Had a couple of side dishes.

Unfortunately the steak my daughter had was sent back as came out to well done, to then have another more well done when asked for medium rare. We didn’t want to take that one back as was embarrassing to do it twice. My cod was soggy and undercooked so I left a fair bit. Expensive day out unfortunately. Staff were lovely though credit to them. But unfortunately won’t be going back

Staff could do with some customer service training never seen before such sullen faces when serving customers and manners very much needed.WILL NOT be calling in there again.

Had lovely afternoon drinks with my family. Bar staff was very friendly and helpful.

The burger was not served with any salad garnish, the first pints of Young's Special were cloudy, the barrel was changed. The first pints should not have been served and a simple were change the barrel, It is very important that staff know that if real ale comes up cloudy you should not serve it. The staff were very friendly and the food was good.

Lovely local pub just been renovated and is very homely in there price could be less but is usual of pubs now

Very pleasant evening from the time we arrived until the time we left, Table setting lovely, went above & beyond for a request I asked for. Service from James was splendid, the food was outstanding atmosphere was lovely only thing I wish they had decorated the place a little as it was valentine's but was still cosy. Looking forward to returning very soon.

Visiting the area from Sussex. Really lovely pub. Friendly and welcoming staff. Great views. Very dog friendly and delicious food. They’d ran out of the roast beef but had one chicken and one pork belly with sides of pigs in duvets, parsnips and cauliflower cheese. Again all very tasty! Would definitely recommend coming here for a Sunday roast!

To what used to be my local when growing up, we arrived on a Sunday evening in time to eat before the kitchen closed at 8pm. The young barman didn't give us a warm welcome and in fact came across as fed up. When asked if he was ok, his response was a short yes, to which I did pass comment and say he didn't look it. The food was nice, but VERY overpriced, £19 for a roast!!!!!! I don't pay anywhere near that in Bristol/Bath. It seems to have a limited selection on wine and cider. The recent refurb is good, but I feel they are trying to be more of a 'yuppie' place in my opinion and certainly won't be rushing back anytime soon

This pub has amazing views and a great atmosphere. The staff are friendly too. We came here for lunch to celebrate our friends birthday. However, we were disappointed in our food. I had the Treacle ham, egg and chips, unfortunately it looked as if it was just thrown on the plate. The ham had no flavour, one of the egg yolks was hard and my chips were just warm! The other three meals were just OK. Such a shame as we have eaten here before and it much better.

Very laid back atmosphere which suited us fine, food was a little delayed coming to the table but they were busy and it was a pre Christmas Friday lunch so acceptable. All our dishes were absolutely delicious, served hot and well presented. We took wine by the glass and we again pleasantly surprised of the quality of the wine. Full marks to the Mitre and all the staff for a very enjoyable culinary experience.

Had a most delicious Sunday roast at The Mitre. Plates were totally clean!

Nice surroundings and in a good location at the top of Gold Hill. Burgers were nice, but roasts were small (3 potatoes, 3 sprouts) and veg was a bit overcooked. Service very friendly, but we were overcharged by £20 when we split the bill. Fortunately we noticed and that was refunded no problem.

Lauren was so lovely and welcoming. She was checking up on us and we felt like we were genuinely welcomed. Great vegan options!
