The barn cafe is an absolute delight. The staff are extremely friendly and polite and helpful. The food was really tasty and well presented. The decaffeinated latte was hot and delicious. The Christmas shop was very well stocked with wonderful present ideas.

I had heard good reviews of the Barn so when I spotted the sign to Stratton Audley I thought I would detour for a quick snack. I got to the counter at 2.02pm and asked if I could still get a roll from the lunch menu that was available until 2.00pm. An enquiry was made and the response was no "everything was turned off" I am reassured that in these strange times not every small business needs or wants customers. Best to drive on and find somewhere that values your business

Nice countryside location for this cafe and shop. A reasonable amount of parking and plenty of outdoor seating. But - no prices on food & drinks list displayed behind counter. No good if you queue at the counter to take food/drink outside. Prices on small print menu which was handed to you if they seated you inside. All very faffy - why not let people choose their own table and then queue at counter? Coffee and cake were OK but very slow service. Bacon panini was very bland and boring - two small slices of bacon, nothing else (no side salad, crisps or similar on the side). Very average - won't bother returning.

Lovely shop and selection of Christmas trees however we decided to have food in the cafe. The hot chocolate was made with water, it was like warm dishwater, don’t expect to pay £3.50 for a hot chocolate make with water and they had run out of marshmallows ( This was 1245) I ordered a coffee and walnut cake which was a chocolate cake with coffee icing, myself and my daughter left most of it as it was so heavy. Completely overpriced awful food, lovely shop but avoid the cafe!!!!! Won’t be visiting again

Firstly no menu available on the website which would have made a difference to my expectation. Arrived for breakfast and no breakfast available as they "don't have a chef"? Had a menu up on paper at the till and when wanted to order baked potato was then told not available until 12. (write that on the menu please) Ordered sausage sandwiches which said on the menu served with salad and crisps which were not on the plate. When queried was told they aren't served with breakfast sandwiches. (again, write that on the menu) A wasted outing which was supposed to be a treat for my dad. The only good thing was the coffee. Felt sorry for the staff who had to tell a few customers about no breakfast. Will not be returning.

Stratton Audley isn't that easy to find, but well worth it if just for this absolutely gorgeous café! Even with a cut-down menu (till October, when it will go back to its previous sumptuousness) the food and service were above reproach. Amazing Italian gelato in at least ten flavours (probably more, I couldn't count!) - all the ones our party of four had were delicious. Great, homemade cakes in huge portions and really good panini, in various combinations of fillings The tuna melt and the mozzarella and tomato were our choices and came with salad and veggie crisps in their own individual cardboard boxes. We sat outside, in the sunshine (enjoy it while the end of summer is still here!) and were served by friendly and efficient waitresses. Will certainly come back - even all the way from London!

We called into Stratton for a coffee and decided to have breakfast. I had a bacon ciabatta and the bacon was excellent. However, my friend had mushrooms on sourdough toast (I’m not totally sure it was sourdough as the texture wasn’t what I would normally expect), when her breakfast turned up we were both shocked by how poor it was. The toast was so hard she struggled to cut it, and it was topped by some fried mushrooms, no garnish whatsoever. Now if this had cost £4 I think it would have been too much, but £7.50? This really took the edge off our visit and I have to say it will be a long time before we come back. This is such a shame as it’s a pretty cafe and the staff are friendly.

Took my son to meet his friends- they've got toys and open space for the kids to run around. The ice creams are amazing! Generous portions. We didn't have anything to eat so cannot comment. But its definitely worth a revisit. Reasonably priced I think. A good alternative to the popular milk shed restaurant that's also nearby. There's plenty of parking on site.

I visited for the first time with a friend to shop and have a light lunch, the offering on the board was either soup, sandwiches or paninis. Not really being bread lovers we opted for a panini as the soup flavour wasn’t to our liking. When the panini arrived it was actually a baguette which had been flattened and not a panini and disappointingly this had absolutely no garnish like perhaps some salad leaves it was just on a plate on its own and all for £6.95. After we had eaten we noticed some quiche in a glass cabinet which we would definitely have chosen had we known it was there. On asking the young lady behind the counter she told us they always had quiche which regulars were aware of... We were not regulars?? She also told us that on the weekend it would be served in its own for £4.95 but on a weekday with salad for £9.95.. that must be an incredible salad. So it would appear if you would like some salad or garnish with your panini or quiche you will need to visit on a week day and not a weekend. And remember if you’re not a local there is quiche in offer even though it may be a hidden offering.

Had a brilliant afternoon tea here today but it was ruined by the amount of wasps flying around. We had a young baby with us and I have an allergy to wasps. Yes, it is August but there were obviously nests around that should be sorted out for people such as myself and children and anyone else who doesn't wish to be pestered by wasps. We had been planning to visit again this week but cancelled it - pity as we love the shop. I spent a lot of time killing the wasps with a serviette that were on the window beside us and the staff although sympathetic seemed unconcerned.

Had to wait for ages to place a lunch order mid week. One person in the kitchen ignoring customers, another wandering around seemingly doing nothing & yet another with her back to us making coffees. Had we been in a different area (town centre) we'd have gone elsewhere. Having driven to the village just for lunch at this place following other people's suggestions we were sticking around. Only 2 vacant tables & both covered in used plates, cups etc. In the end we cleared our table ourselves & took all the dirty items to the counter. Eventually the table cloth was wiped whilst we were waiting for our food. We were happy with our food that included quiche, ice cream made on the premises & cake with coffee. The gift shop had lots of attractive & interesting items on offer. If the service had been better we'd have had a great experience. Unfortunately, we let dissatisfied & unlikely to return.

We dropped by for food on a Thursday lunchtime and we're treated to a tantalising menu and left filled and committed to another lunch visit. There were a host of options including smoked mackerel pate, made-to-order panini and baked potatoes, or - as we went for - a delicious halloumi salad with a tangy lime and caper dressing. The portions were generous and food was lip-smackingly moreish. Best of all, though I was on a deadline to catch a train and lunch was only due to begin at midday, Eleanor in the kitchen -who conjured up all the ideas and food - was happy to accommodate our order beforehand. And in fact that left us time - and just enough space - for a *huge* slice of lime cake a blueberry crumble slice. We were easily able to spoon feed our 7 month old - who enjoyed the view from the high chair. Prices reasonable: under £7 for the salad, £3 or less for cakes. We will be back soon!

Lovely service, lovely atmosphere - very 'summer cafe'. Highly recommended. It's not a big place - but well worth a visit. I think they may have tables outside in the summer. The view across the paddocks to the old church tower is quintessential England. Trip hint: if you come in from the main Bicester Road you go through the village, watch out where there is a bend to the left - you will see a brown direction plaque on the wall to the right - swing round the ancient tree to get to the barn.

We walked over to Stratton Audley from where we were staying and looked forward to some hearty fare and a decent ice cream. We each had jacket potato with bolognese sauce and a side salad. My view is that it was ok but the sauce was nothing special. For me, the much anticipated gelato offering was below par, but then I am comparing it with the real Italian ice cream company in York street, bath. I had two scoops, one of salted caramel, which was ok, the other marked cream egg, which wasn't. At £3.80, this was expensive given how much was put on the cone. Also, the flavours and textures were not what I expected of gelato...it was more a premium ice cream. I think the barn needs to learn lessons from the Ben and Jerry ice cream book and start off building a reputation by loading the cone and selling it cheap.
